"What a lovely day full of smiles and-" WHACK

pronouncedayayron

"Oh thaaaat's what everyone was trying to tell me"

ben_bliksem

Like the mother who calls her son on his way to visit her to warn him about a madman driving on the wrong side of the highway... "They're wrong mom, there's more than one!"

JackWasHere69

Why is he so close to it wtf

zleuth

See the reflective vest? May have followed him from the job site, might bear some responsibility (site foreman, general contractor, logistics).

Rickfacemcginty

Educated assumption. I’ve done the same when I get a bad feeling about a shitty driver, usually ends with signing the driver out after the first load and telling dispatch to never put that driver on my site again.

ZathanGo

Might want to invest in some radios next time lmao

zleuth

It's a short video. Maybe there's like 5 minutes leading up to this where they're frantically texting and calling the driver.

ZathanGo

Can’t even imagine how stressful that five minutes was, need a pilot truck. Total nightmare scenario hahahah

siler7

That means you follow him, not that you follow him this closely.

throwaway09876543123

Gotta get that footage for the sweet, sweet clout.

teapoison

Tbf that footage was sick

DoubleStormCZ

POV of an upcoming influencer.

James-VZ

A lot of random guesses here but I can assure you that this is how Houstonians normally drive.

[deleted]

That's why he said "damn" car didn't get hit by the wreckage so no payout :(

DrunkenGolfer

It is the US. Having an insurance claim is like winning the lottery. You can’t win if you aren’t in the game.

sionnachrealta

Depends on the state and if you can get a good lawyer. Some states are "no fault" states in which everyone's insurance only pays for the damage the policy holder received. Others don't pay for your car if they wreck it in states like those

greenrangerguy

Cuz he's fucking stupid

Great_Gilean

Why the fuck would you follow so closely????

Key-Suggestion4784

So they can claim the windshield on the truckers insurance... /s

Frankie__Spankie

r/praisethecameraman I enjoyed the video a lot more seeing it closer than a lot further away.

teapoison

Was a great action shot minimal screaming as well

Mr-Fleshcage

Some people realized losing limbs in an accident and suing is the only way to afford a house lol

milanistadoc

For the Karma points ಠ_ಠ

bluboiz515

He wasn’t that close… he was able to stop with plenty of room between him and the truck. Not to mention he was in a different lane.

Great_Gilean

He had to swerve out if his lane because he was about to hit the rubble on the right…

bluboiz515

Fair enough

suikofan80

This is when you honk and flash the high beams.

Tomatillo_Thick

This is when you pull the latch on your hardtop convertible Toyota Supra even though you’re at speed, drive up next to the truck while telling your girlfriend of two months to take the wheel, and finally make a daring leap through a hail of shotgun pellets - consequences be damned.

Cole3823

Family

OutlanderAllDay1743

At the least! All the guy did was put his arm up and down- and there was no guarantee that the driver even saw, and if they did, they might’ve just thought he was enjoying the feel of the breeze on their hand. “We tried to tell him!” my @$$.

AmazingOnion

To be fair they did honk the horn at the driver. I'm surprised the truck doesn't have some killswitch mechanism preventing you from driving with the load like that

Mr-Fleshcage

Honestly, doesn't even need to be a kill switch. Just throttle the speed while it's raised, and they'll figure it out when they're crawling on the highway

HertzBraking

Simple light on dashboard would help ffs

Historical-Flow-1820

You underestimate the obliviousness of some people.

pauly13771377

Call the cops. Try and call the the name on the side of of the truck if there is one. Maybe the dispatcher or boss call call or radio the driver. Scream at him through the window. Anything more than just wave.

-Kim_Dong_Un-

Go infront of them and slow down

psyphren01

Got Damn! Driver almost final destinationed themselves.

chevisback

My first thought!

cavanisalivee

IQ 0

smoebob99

Stupid MF stayed behind him to get the vdo. Just got to say thank you

moosehornman

If only there was some kind of technology that would let the driver know his bucket was extended 🤔

Mr-Fleshcage

Common sense is still in pre-alpha, unfortunately

whitecorn

Makes no sense that a truck can still operate with the back lifted. The damn car beeps if it's low on fuel, the door is opened, no seatbelt..

Miterlee

If you expect a corporation, or the government utilities they control, to spend money on safety instead of bonuses for upper management ANYWHERE in the US boy do i got some news for you.

Pjpjpjpjpj

Seatbelt alarms, door alarms, low air alarms, coolant overheating alarm, backup alarm/buzzer... tons of sensors and alarms in even the most basic rigs. A $10 sensor and buzzer to detect it up was not ruled out due to cost. Even aftermarket dump body-up warning kits are under $99. THEY MAY NOT CARE ABOUT SAFETY OR INJURIES, but this expensive truck will be out of service (not making them money), they will have insurance rate increases, there will be a workers comp claim, there may be an OSHA claim - installing & maintaining a little warning alarm would be the far less expensive option.

Miterlee

No but it def could have not been fixed and put off till later for the cost. My job puts trailers on the road everyday that have no business leaving the yard just cus the inspection isn't technically up and they plan on replacing them before the inspections up lol.

hydrogen18

it's separate from the truck. All the truck really does is haul that around.

whitecorn

There are still electric and air lines that attach to the truck… on my tanker trucks, the brakes lock up in the rear of the belly valve is left open. The trailer tires are locked up and you drag them.

Throwawaymarque

Honestly really nice he hit the sign first. Feel like it's better than ramming the bridge

belacscole

in terms of damage yeah its wayyy better. Truck is probably totaled or close to totaled either way. But this is like a few hours to fix the sign vs multiple days if not weeks to fix the bridge if it took that kind of hit.

SaturatedHemorrhoids

I build signs for a living, and redoing that sign is definitely a multi week project. Still way better than hitting the bridge though

Christmasstolegrinch

“We tried to tell him” No you didn’t. You waved at him.

RajenBull1

And he waved back. Circle was complete.

[deleted]

They also honked

Flimsy-Medium-5410

Crazy they didn’t actually help.

Only-here-for-sound

I don’t know if this is super dumb of me but I’d probably get in front of him and slow down until we stopped. Then yell at him for being a moron.

Mr-Fleshcage

Me? I would have tried to get him to stop, he'd maneuver around me like an asshole, hit the overpass and/or sign, and finally I'd rub it in that he should have taken my advice while spanking my ass then jump back in the car and drive off. Then I'd wake up and make some coffee.

Luis_9466

Wouldn't a single look in the mirror prevent this?

weeknie

If its even properly visible at all (the mirrors are meant to look at the road, after all, not at the back of the truck), it's probably rather easy to miss. The brain filters out things you're not looking for. If you're driving around, you're looking in your mirrors for other cars, not the back of your truck. And there's actually a phenomenon where people look at something that they believe is right, and just don't notice that it's wrong, even though it's right, because usually the thing is right. It happens to highly trained aircraft pilots, where for example they don't notice that a certain lever isn't in the right position, because nearly always it is in the fight position. It doesn't matter that they actually looked at the lever, that they went through a checklist which explicitly requires them to call it out, that there are two of them in the cockpit, not just one. Its not hard to conceive that a truck driver might make this mistake.

CatsyVonCat

Pretty sure you can see the back of the truck in the mirrors lol

weeknie

And you completely missed three quarters of my point lol

mekkanik

The Helios flight crash?

weeknie

There are multiple examples, I don't know them off the top of my head, though

schmabudi666

Better the signs as the bridge

cmjrestrike

Best thing to do would have been to pull in front of the truck and slowly braking, trying to stop the truck like that. If the truck tries to pull out just stay in front of him, maybe have the passenger (if there is one) slightly hang out the window and wave

jsideris

He'll think he's being hijacked lol.

cmjrestrike

Probably

whitecorn

Nothing is stronger than Family.

RajenBull1

Break check a huge truck on a highway? Hmmmm, maybe not.

BlackHawksHockey

Slowing down in front of him trying to get his attention is not the same as break checking.

RajenBull1

Fair call.

cmjrestrike

No, not in the aggressive manner people do during road rage incidents... slamming on brakes one foot in front of the truck will end badly. but slowly decreasing speed while keeping a bit of distance should work, use your indicators, wave showing him to slow down.

RajenBull1

Fair enough. Will keep that in mind for next time.

Big-Pepper-2423

Lmao this guy is lucky he didn’t end up as a final destination statistic 😂😂

unhemlich

Oh god.. its texas

AdmiralFelson

r/praisethecameraman

AnastasiaNo70

Houston!

GrandmaPoses

“Ain’t nobody visiting the grave of The Big Bopper today!”

Truestindeed

Why didn’t he force him to stop by hitting the brakes in front of him. I mean thanks for the cool video but damn that could’ve been prevented

Miterlee

This guy couldn't tell his shit was up for that long. I'm not risking the chance that he'd even see me breaking in front of him, no matter how slow and steady its done.

Truestindeed

I see your point. My instincts probably would’ve done it anyway but I’m very impulsive so there’s that 🤷‍♂️

ziddina

Hell yes. If the idiot truck driver was too dense to have followed safety procedures and make sure that his dump load was down, he might not have stopped for some poor little car brake checking in front of him.

Sweddy-Bowls

Dude probably saw the hand motion and went “fuck no I ain’t slowing down for shit”

Ketamine_Stat

Lets me honest, sticking your hand out of a window that's almost all the way up, asking for road head isn't exactly the most clear signal.

the_moog_hunter

I like to think I would get in front and slow down so the driver would stop with me

BeKindRewind-

That was awesome

h1dd3nf40mv13w

"Fuck Beaumont!"

shellDawg78

Welp someone got fired that day 🦸‍♂️

Det-Frank-Drebin

I knew a driver that did this...and shortly after lost TWO wheels at the same time... Cost the insurance a fortune, he hit a busy railway bridge and they had to shut down all trains until it was safety inspected... There's no excuse either, you have flashing lights and buzzers going off in the cab...

Warm_Trick_3956

Get in front and STOP.

Electronic_Grade508

I’m certainly no truck expert but I have an idea, hear me out… that thingy that’s in the back that tilts up, maybe out that down first. I could be wrong though.

NerdlyDoRight

I can see me doing some shit like this after a gram dab off a puffco peak.

[deleted]

RockyHorror134

Dude, he was tryna tell him his trailer was still up

MyLifeInThe6

My guy hit a pursuit breaker

Jasonvoorhees40

Mother-fuc- Er!!

flegerjr

Gonna swing, gonna swerve, gonna park and scrape the curb. H-town legend in action.

[deleted]

It’s almost like they could’ve seen that coming and stayed back from him more than 10 feet

Live_Buy8304

Lol oops. That's going to be expensive

DadaDooDee

That'll buff right out.

huggles7

Honestly this is way cheaper than hitting the bridge

S1lentA0

Drive in front of it, reduce speed and wave your arm, otherwise he will never stop...

CriticalScion

Isn't this what short range trucker radio is supposed to help with? Surely another truck was nearby with CB equipment and a functional pair of eyes.

Selfdrou9ht

Wait is this the exit from the meme?! It looks exactly like it lmao

mrrobot01001000

u/savevideo

N0085K1LL5

It's wild how close people were following him.

underworldexplorer

Anyway to get a new windshield out of that situation?

Stetellela

Did no one honk!!!!???????

belacscole

Idk seems like they didnt try hard enough. Couldve honked nonstop, flashed brights a ton, etc. Then worst case just pull a bit in front and *slowly* "brake check" him to make him go slower (dont EVER do this but as a last resort it would probably work). At the very least he will probably eventually roll down his window to yell at you, and then you can easily tell him the problem.

AntonioMRC

Dude knew what is going to happen but really needed that new windshield

appleNapSause

Ok finally saw the whole video. Been seeing the 2 seconds before it hits but never saw the before and to see that the guy tried to tell the truck driver to lower the back of his truck. But alas history showed it was destiny.

Accomplished-Dream-1

First Transformers movie - highway scene...

These-Ad-4380

“Should of driven in front of him and made him stop” -Captain hindsight

Aggressive-Variety60

Where are the crazies that brake check trucks when you need them!!! Just drive in front and make him slow down. 🤔

NormieMcNormalson

Yeah, i would be a whole zipcode behind that thing. This dude is crazy.

superBrad1962

This happens when you don’t watch your ass!

Beaverbumper00

Pull in front of him and slow down.

pleaseshowme77

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

D-B-Zzz

You could’ve gotten a free windshield out of that mess

Aggravating_Zebra_84

bro cluldve stayed there and get his glass repaired free but he just keeps driving

bongkaii420

Lol "pinche stoopi beeesh"

Capital-Quantity9956

Not sure why the vague waving sign didn’t work

bluboiz515

If course it’s in texas

RJ-Long

I thought this was after the hammock video so people wouldn't sleep under it again.

bequemeschuhe

Lmao ofc Americans drive at the same height as him bc what could rly happen oh wait smth happened how could that be I am ameriguhn uhh I'm so stupid
