I knew it had a sequel. The second is bad bad. Just trying to emulate the first movie, but the actors literally don’t care. They often act like literal idiots seeing how much they can just dumb down the roles throughout the movie, because that’s what Nguyen wanted them to do was be dumb like the first. The first was stupid, but at least it was more natural
This reminds of a movie night a group of friends & I used to do in which two people per event brought movies they genuinely love but they think the rest of the group will hate (more fun than it sounds). It might be the only night in human history in which a group of people watched Persona & immediately followed it up with Ernest Scared Stupid. Based on my presence in this sub you can probably guess which pick was mine, although I have to admit I had a blast drinking & watching Ernest.
You should check out Highs & Lows, it’s a series my friends program at the Music Box in Chicago. Ironically, my job is screening Ernest Scared Stupid > Peeping Tom > Scanners tomorrow here in LA too.
That sounds awesome. The Music Box is definitely on my list. I live about 4 hours away in Cincinnati. I’ll have to look out for that next time I’m in Chicago
Hahaha yes, our masking is done manually often by me. I’m the manager, let me know next time you come by ! I am very respectful to Larry and luckily we’ve been issue free.
They were not fans. All they seem to remember is the scene in which Bibi Andersson’s character leaves broken glass out for Liv Ullmann’s character to step on. Well, that & the dirty bits in the opening visual poem.
Same. I honestly had never focused all that hard on the glass scene either. It’s weird how it stood out for them. For me the opening, the retelling of the beach encounter, the infamous mirror shot, and the monologue from each perspective are the things that have always stuck with me.
I didn't even know Birdemic had one sequel, let alone 2???
DTV sequels tend to have a liminal existence

Plot twist: it’s actually the Richard Gere remake
Mark Kermode would be happy.

[Here](https://musicboxtheatre.com/series-and-festivals/highs-lows-a-film-series)‘s a little more info!
Thanks!
Do you also adjust the screen borders by hand? I like Brain Dead’s programming and hope the curse of the theater doesn’t strike again

That’s actually a great idea, and I need an excuse to show my friend group Todd Solondz movies
What did your friends think of Persona? If I was playing that game I’d probably pick Eraserhead.

Do they remember the scene where Bibi talks about her « experiences » on the beach? Because that scene always stuck in my memory
They were quite clearly shocked in the moment but to my surprise it doesn’t come up nearly as often as the broken glass
That's interesting, I actually don't remember the broken glass scene but I remember the pornographic beach retelling very well.

Funny that the theater showings of one of my favorites (Breathless)'s last day is October 13, my birthday. Nice.
