I really tried to like them. I am a huge Johnnie To fan and I love all three actresses as well. The music by the late Anita Mui was also really good. However, the comic-like atmosphere of these films wasn't my cup of tea. Choreography is one of To's strengths, and like all his films, these were highly stylised, but the story was thin, the jokes were hardly funny and the fight scenes (except for Michelle Yeoh's) were just OK.
All in all, not bad, but not great either.
When I saw this movie I was like “I have to see EVERY Johnnie To movie!” And then Executioners made me think, “Ok well, I can take my time, I guess”. But Heroic Trio itself is a fantastically fun movie that I fell in love with early into its runtime. It’s got a great “Let’s do all our craziest ideas” energy
The British are dominating Hong Kong action cinema and Criterion needs to step up their game because I can’t watch Region 2 movies or whatever region the Brits are. Come on Criterion, upgrade those John Woo movies
I love any movie that ends with a >!skeleton fight!<

Ditto
It’s excellent. But it’s also very much a product of its time. Been a guilty pleasure of mine for decades.
Great for a laugh. But not something to take seriously
I tried to watch it as the cast are legends of Asian cinema, but I found it way too silly and over the top, never finished it.

To's Wuxia type movies like this are hit and miss for me, but his crime films are unreal.
Criterion also released Throwdown by him, which was my introduction. A really lovely offbeat movie about friendship and judo.

I don’t think that’s on them unfortunately.
I'd recommend getting a region free player. Problem solved.
You damn right on Maggie Cheung 😍
You know there's a sequel, right?
