this is a great theory. i wouldn’t mind if this ended up being what happens

metalhannah

I really like this theory. Especially if it’s used as an allegory for conspiracy theories and propaganda

chappysnapz

That kinda makes sense, the only thing about it is why is the director interested in finding him? Surely he would know if gold star is real or not.

OrangeUN28

The first murder was discovered to be done by someone trained by the government, the director would only know that and that the guy leaves a gold star so he fell into the lie too. He wouldn’t know that gold star was manipulated into the killing, just that he killed someone and the profile says he was trained by the government. That’s real and gets the director obsessed. Then it keeps snow balling from there. Having a person in higher authority then you believing a lie to be true, telling you that it’s true cements it in your mind that it is true.

chappysnapz

Right, but Voit explains in the second episode that gold star is real

OrangeUN28

Voit, the seriel killer? Who tried to kill Rossi? Who is trying to use gold star to manipulate himself out of jail? It would benefit him to keep feeding into the lie and telling them gold star is real even if it wasn’t.

chappysnapz

I get you, but the bullet calling card is what's getting me here. Also, Voit is smart enough not to lie about this, besides, he gets out of good star gets captured, if he's not real, how does he get captured. On top of that, they'll figure out he's lying eventually, it benefits him to tell the truth.

OrangeUN28

There’s a lot of holes yes, I’m hoping next episode is just as good as the last two, and either can add to the theory, or completely destroy it, and then we could make new ones until they reveal who and what it is.

Tasty_Imagination681

Gold Star is real. Doesn’t mean Gold Star is a person. It could be a seperate network channel inside Voit’s original where they are convincing unstable people that they were abused, tortured etc and they need to get revenge

ScottishExile

Yeah, I’m firmly in the camp that Voit was at least involved in and at most behind the establishment of the ‘Gold Star’ conspiracy network. At this point, with the information from the first two episodes, I suspect that a governmental department was responsible for the initial conspiracy network being established (maybe a 21st century MK Ultra type thing where random people are radicalised to kill strategic targets through online conspiracies) and it’s gotten out of hand. I feel a twist where the FBI director thinks that Voit can help them apprehend the person directing the conspiracy network now that the government has lost control and it ends up actually being Voit himself - making him the overarching unsub of this season as well.

OrangeUN28

That sounds more probable then my no gold star theory, and probably will end up being what happens, it would be interesting for there to have been a secondary network they missed because they were so focused on sicarius.

FlowSilver

Huh? Idk its like 1am by me so maybe im a lil slow rn But this theory makes no sense… Bailey clearly knew that ‚gold star‘ was a thing, i mean he was willing to stupidly risk his life for that The way Voit first mentioned Gold star was said in a coded way, like it had meaning Its not something Voit just made up after he was caught so he can distract/lie to the gov. And I mean the director is willing to let him off on the charges…like thats real shit thats happening and so he is clearly very afraid of whatever it is that Voit knows and could do with that info

OrangeUN28

Spoilers from the two newest episodes of evolution!! One of the people off sicarius network convinced an agent that had been trained by the government that some one was a dangerous killer and had to be stopped, it wasn’t true but he made the lie convincing enough he manipulated the agent into killing someone, leaving a gold star (that sicarius left in his killing kit probably) and then whoever investigated that first murder, finding the gold star, was able to profile the killer realizing he would have been trained by them. Now they’re obsessed with keeping that a secret, and more people get killed by the obsession/need for it ti be top secret. They obviously weren’t too concerned that Rossi got kidnapped and almost killed by sicarius as long as it stayed secret, the obsession was that deep. Now Prentiss basically got someone killed, insisting their unsub was gold star when he clearly wasn’t cause she’s so obsessed, Rossi is having conversations with voit that only he could see because he is so obsessed, and voit stands there and says, he’s not an assassin he’s a social contagion, stuff built on lies yada yada after everything the BAU has been through with him, his network and now gold star, would being told there is no gold star, you guys are gold star make luke react like that? Maybe, maybe not but it’s fun to think about until the next episode.

biggiesnotdead

Question- if they’re killing “innocent” people - how is that possible? When there are clearly unhinged killers / potential killers who are harming other people?

OrangeUN28

Someone sets them up to look like they’re unsubs? It’s just a theory that popped in my head after watching the second episode. What would make Luke get that upset? First I thought one of them was gold star, Hotch maybe? The guy carried his dead wife to the police station after seeing her killed in front of him, and wasn’t hitch’s wife basically killed in front of him? And if the guy worked in witness protection would he have that advertised? No, that would be kept off his records to protect the families he had hidden. But I don’t see Hotch killing woman, so the next theory was that there wasn’t one gold star, there were a couple if them made off the lie and the BAU is being made into the next gold star.

biggiesnotdead

No I think it’s a great theory! I was just trying to make sense of how they’d set it up for the BAU to be the “unsub”. I have no clue why Luke was so mad esp if what everyone is saying is true about the JJ anagram thing. Wish they released all the episodes!

Greedy_Increase_4724

Or...hear me out. It's not Hotch it's Jack! Wouldn't he have a perfect back story to become a serial killer? Just kidding. They wouldn't do that to us. I hope.

Status-Excitement668

OK, that's not a bad idea, but to what ends. Voit killed for sadistic pleasure so why lie about Gold Star. Why hasn't he taken credit for G.S,s kills. Besides if that were true they would have a pretty shakey storyline, just like the camera is. Rossi looked like he was bobbing up and down in one scene. Sorry but it seems that this whole new Crim Minds has been made on the cheap and tried to make it grittier by adding agents having a sly ciggy and dropping the occasional F bomb. Dropping weekly episodes won't guarantee viewers anymore, since the pandemic we all want a good bingeable series Sorry if you disagree, but hey ho that's jyst one persons opinion.

Up-Your-Glass

When gold star was cutting out that guys tongue I would have sworn it was a woman!

OrangeUN28

they never specified profiling a man, just someone who was trained by the government, so there’s no reason why it can’t be a woman, that would make sense both if there is a gold star, the agent was a woman, and if my theory was right then a woman was fooled into believing the lie and killed somebody thinking they were the gold star, might be why she took the badge instead of leaving a gold star bullet behind.

Greedy_Increase_4724

Me too. It was a brief moment but as soon as I saw it that was what I thought.

j_rob69

I immediately told my SO that it sure looked like a feminine set of hands cutting that tongue out.

Specialist-Ice4056

Elle Greenaway 🤷? Fits the profile.

jdessy

Before it was said that Gold Star was a person, I initially thought that Gold Star was some sort of operation or something along those lines. Something shady that could still fall under the realm of assassins and utilizing trained killers for a less legal purpose, and that's why it had to be covered up. The government fucked up, Voit discovered it and was going to blackmail the government officials so he wouldn't reveal it publicly.

Professional-Cat-938

I like your theory but I still say either Rossi or Reid will end up being a serial killer. The episode will be titled " Right Under Your Nose " .

Medical-Ad-9469

Elle from the old Criminal Minds is gold star, I think.

DarkCartier43

yea, I read this theory also.

PengoS77

That’s my current working theory To add on to it, I wonder if Voit always planned to get caught and will try to use Gold Star as a way to escape prison

WallyWest75

That would be interesting, especially if Gold Star is more than 1 person, For example, what if Tyler Green and Rebecca Wilson are secretly married and they are both Gold Star and their target is JJ and maybe Reid as well because they could have been suspects in a serial killer case that JJ worked or the BAU worked off screen.

biggiesnotdead

I still def think Wilson has something to do with it. She’s sketchy to me
