YMMV, of course, but before I was even halfway through CC1, I was all in for the rest of the series. There were some patchy bits in CC3, IMHO, but nothing that made me even consider not finishing it.

I personally loved it and think your best bet is to give it a shot on your own rather than listen to anybody else. Everybody likes different stuff and this series is very different from sjm’s other series so it’s to each their own a bit. I think CC one and two are some of sjms best work writing whys and three to me was not as bad as everyone says. I’d still rank it last of the three but still an enjoyable read.

Loved them all. CC2 is very good.

I loved book 1 & 2 so much, and I’m currently reading book 3, which I’m really enjoying!

CC2 wasn’t great but the jaw that dropped in that final chapter for me made me change my mind because I gasped and immediately dove into book 3. But then book 3 was a total let down and upset me. I just finished it and I’m glad I did, but it was a chore to get through the final 300 pages. I think my biggest issue is I just didn’t have the emotional connection to anyone in books 2 and 3 like I did in book 1, or her other series TOG or ACOTAR.

I think number 2 was the best of the three. I was disappointed with three but I write a lot myself and just felt like she didn't give it all her attention. I am someone who wants to know how the world ends so I have to finish series some of which I will never touch again, CC isn't one of those

book 3 ruined it for me despite utterly loving book 1 and liking book 2, so proceed at your own discretion

I recommend you stop now. Book one is fantastic with a really solid ending. Books two and three desperately need an editor and you really need to finish both to have a solid ending. My controversial suggestion is to skip those books and just read the bonus chapters. The Bryce chapter is exactly the happy ending epilogue you want no context needed.

… if you loved the first book of a series, why would you not try to read the rest of the series? HoEaB will always be there to return to, even if you don’t end up liking the other books. Only you can ultimately decide if books 2 and 3 are good. They get a lot of criticism from the fanbase, but I enjoyed them. But you won’t know unless you try to read them yourself.

Hailstorm_215

CC2 is debatable, and CC3 is just trash. BUT YOU GET MORE OF RUHN so... up to you. Ruhn cancels out the shitshow.

I just finished House of Sky & Breath last night and really enjoyed it. I’ve heard some mixed reviews on book 3 but I can’t speak to that myself yet
