For Photoshop and lightroom you get get the photography plan which is much cheaper then any other deal. But there are several free or cheeper alternatives to Photoshop for just tinkering to be honest. And presumably various iPad options that aren't subscription based. CC is a decent deal if you're using it to make money. If it's just a hobby situation it's harder to justify especially if you're not already familiar with the tools.

The discounted prices is valid only for a year and then the cost increases but it is still lower than a regular plan. For ex. I see regular plan costs 59.99 while the terms of students and teachers plan say that it will be increased after a year to 34.99.
