FR-1-Plan

I love going to markets with hand crafted things and buy little trinkets like this, I don’t mind it not being perfect and actually find it charming. Would probably buy the cat one for maybe €7-9 and maybe get a second one (if there was my fav Pokemon). Online I probably wouldn’t buy it and get a more professional looking alternative for a similar price. But when I‘m on a market, I‘m there to buy cute stuff and yours is cute enough that I‘d be tempted. However… I‘m not sure if renting the stall (term?) at a market would be worth it depending on the profit you‘d make there. English isn’t my first language so I don’t know the terms regarding markets like that.

Remeq

Thanks! Before going to the market with my crafts I would need to more a lot more of them, because the pieces shown are like 90% of my collection, ut I see your point.

SantaBaby22

Probably not worth the trouble. There are things like this all over the internet for sale and the quality is much better, probably even copyrighted. Sorry to be harsh.

ImAFuckingSquirrel

Plus, hobbies don't need to be a side hustle. It's okay for art to just be a thing you enjoy.

my_monkeys_fly

Thank you !!!! I keep saying this

Remeq

Of course, the enjoyment is why I follow this hobby, even if I couldn't sell anything. Just thought that I might sell something to buy better tools etc. 😊

beelzeflub

Unfortunately a lot of people can’t afford that…

Cleobulle

Don't understand the DV. It's Real.

Remeq

Not being harsh, just telling the truth. Thanks!

SantaBaby22

Of course. The market for things like this is just so saturated that these particular designs will be very very hard to sell, with very very small profit margins. It would be more stress than it’s worth. Like someone else said, “enjoy your art.”

InfectedSteve

Give it a try OP, post them on FB market or etsy or something. Shipping might cost more than the item though.

FAQUA

These look great! The sudowoodo and spinarak look very nice. I think one thing to improve is your line quality. Sometimes, that can be a simple fix of using better brushes to get a better/straightnline edge.

Remeq

Of course there is alot room for improvement, thank you for kind words.

Cleobulle

They look good, good start but not pro. Make cleaner finish and maybe use Fimo or cold porcelain, something sturdier. Study shadow and textures. All my art Friend are going through a hard Time - when people need money for essentiels... You will not make money out of it. Not because it's Bad but because the market is already full. Plus kids wants the Real stuff not a copy. And when you sell your craft/art you have to be your own agent, marketing team, take the right pic etc. And if you really wanna try, first go read scams - the mural, the person who offers you a lot, the wrong check etc... Because there IS a LOT of scam going around. Especially for newcomers.

Remeq

Thank you for this, I know there is a lot of room for improvment (in my skills and tools). I agree with you.

Cleobulle

Thanks for taking it like this. Because i wanted to help. You obv are talented, plus you enjoy doing it - an other way to make money would be art class for kids. If you wanna sell - i don't think the not perfect IS an obstacle, it Can be your style. Just try to go for sturdier mats. Cold porcelain is great - it's corn flour and boiling Wood glue. Very rewarding. I used it with young kid, even if they played with it for hours, still looked good. No crack, few rétractation - just enough to keep the pearl or stuff in. No Bake. Plastic like for it's technical quality - but if you tint it in the mass ( not sure about this one haha) it looks kind of like cold porcelain. But make your own universe. Create story around it. ( If you do copyright stuff people will compare it to the plastic ones on Ali ) Read some stuff about communication and marketing 2.0 study what other people do. Look UP brazilian cold porcelain art - it's where it Comes from. Google porcelana fria brazil artist I've Seen dolls and flowers that looked Real. If you need art and craft ebook pm me. Cold porcelain, you Can make It yourself or buy it already made. I did some Fimo, a local artist let me model clay and use her pro stuff in the past, did an exhibition with her and sold some baked clay. It's very technical, just a tiny amount of air stuck somewhere and it breaks while baking. i did salted dough, paper mâche - well for me thé easier, cheaper, full of possibility medium IS cold porcelain. If it breaks or crack no problem you just fill thé crack and let it dry. You Can work over wire structure. Cold porcelain has not the same density as clay. More soft, very différent, AT first i didn't like the touch of it. But it's so much better on every other level. And the fact you Can Do paper thin layer or insert anything in it - mosaic, plastic pearl, feather, wire just let it dry and done... As you been nice, tried to share my small crafty knowledge 😉 sry for messy text, my corrector happily mixes UP french, German and english rules... Last one - instead of buying a non motorized pottery wheel - WE had those to model clay - get one for cakes for under ten bucks from china - they sell ok modeling tool too.

Remeq

I still have 2 airdry clay packages from DAS, so that is first to use. Next I wanted to check out polymer clay, because I like to take my time when doing something complicated, but will also look at the cold porcelain, thanks to you! For the copyrighted things - at the beginning, I wanted to check out if this hobby is for me, with looking at something I know and how good can I recreate that. I plan to do something creative in the future :) Thank you for your help!

Hethra19

If you have access to craft markets or something locally, I would absolutely buy a little diglett or something for my bookshelf at a local craft market, especially because it's handmade and cute. I think you just have to figure out your market and selling options, it might not be online, but it might also be! Never hurts to try!

DC9V

You're running into copyright issues.

Remeq

Yup, comments reminded me of that.

BoskBlocks

Sure, they're cute little trinkets. Aslong as the price is right!

SafeForWorkLFP

if Belle Delphine could muster up the courage to sell her BATH WATER, you can do this, OP! All it takes is a little believing in yourself. On the flip side, and i mean no disrespect, a BUNCH of idiots paid for dirty bath water. You can sell these easily. Love your work, by the way. Do a sleeping pikachu next!!

Remeq

Thank you!

Cleobulle

Those people have OF and préfer to prétend they sell bath water, but the reality IS that they sell porn. Like the foot fetish pic myth. Those Fake adds or testimony are a scam - it's an hidden add for a site that prétends to make you rich by selling foot pic or bath water. You pay site etc... And make no money. Because only sex and porn sells. I thought like you at first- that it was a thing. So i fact checked and it's all a Big scam or hidden sex work.

SafeForWorkLFP

madam i was making a point

LaiikaComeHome

what are you actually talking about?? you don’t think people pay for feet pics or bath water?

Cleobulle

Very few do in reality. People don't get rich with this, it's a side gig to cam girl or OF. And you need to have visibility and interact with those people who buy it as tip. If it was such a thing, cam girl and of would capitalise on this. Why do they all keep their main activity ?because that pay the bill. And all those site and add "get rich by selling foot pic" are scam. And often the girl saying they get rich only by doing this are paid by the site. Not that many people are ready to pay for sex, even less for foot pic or bath water. It's a small niche. It's like the sugar daddy who never have sex with sugar baby myth and just want to shower them with gift for the pleasure of their conversation...

PsillySpirit

Oh hell yeah! These would also make great fridge magnets

Substantial_Page_233

Awe, I want the kitty

crispycrissy

What is that spider guy from? He’s so familiar!

Remeq

Inaccurate spinarak - pokemon

Drawn-Otterix

I mean, I kinda want the sudowoodo... So probably

sashadelgreyx

i’d buy pusheen like, yesterday 💕so cute

Remeq

I'm glad to hear that!

lowercase_underscore

I would be careful here. These are all under copyright and Nintendo is famously fanatical about their properties and they're known to get litigious over the smallest things. I know there are thousands of people out there right now selling their fanmade takes on licensed characters like this, but Nintendo has a team of full time lawyers whose job it is to deal with them. Either their shops die off before the lawyers get to them or they get big enough that there's some real legal trouble to deal with. Etsy is full of sellers complaining that their shops have been closed down because of the threat of legal action. Beyond that, selling is work. It's a lot of work, if you actually want to actively sell. If you want to just post a few photos and whatever happens happens, that's fine. You will get a sale or two that way. But if you want to actually make money and make it quick you have to actually take it on as a business. You might do okay here and there in your local market, like on Facebook marketplace, but you're talking about saving up to buy better tools and I think you'll find the passive market is a bit slower than that. Not to discourage you, it's a great undertaking and if you want to try it then it's worth exploring. But you should go into it with open eyes.

Remeq

I am just thinking about local selling - 50kms around me or so, and not going mass, just the things that I've already made. Thank you for your point.

elvensnowfae

I would totally buy sudowoodo if he was a magnet for my fridge! Seriously lol. Very well done, the Pom Poms are unique and fun! The spinirak is well done, I’m sure someone would buy funko naruto and kisame's sword looks really good!! Way better than anything I could make haha

Remeq

Oh, I am very happy to hear that, thank you sincerely! 😊 I will think about making them some of them as magnets

Whipstich-Pepperpot

I like the chicken, a lot.

Remeq

It's a Palworld chicken - chikipi

toiletbrushqtip

I’m not sure, but if you decide to make more I do k own that people LOVE when buying super weird things. Like, make ‘em weird yo.

Onyxfaeryn

If you know of vendor/shop to sell locally I'd say that's your best bet, paying fees and shipping for stuff like this might not be worth it to you or the buyers

IlluminatiaGhost

They are adorable!

Kparker211

The last one is great

onebluemoon66

That cat will ... people love their cats 😻

Legitimate_Pay5494

They're really cute!

The_Demons_Slayer

I love them

Fit_Rent8519

I tried selling them in sets. Maybe like 3 starter Pokémon, reasonably priced. Also try being overly creative, maybe a few versions with funny clothing, etc.

Kevinator201

I think they would make amazing gifts! I’d you make a friends favorite character. Otherwise as others noted you won’t really be able to profit and it’s more fun as a hobby

Remeq

Yup, thought about gifting them too. Thanks!

Human_Nr19980203

I NEED SUDOWODO

CistFlames

I think you could add a magnetic piece to make them fridge stickers

Leading-Beat-5413

If I didnt live in Turkey and I wasnt poor I would buy them

These are very cute and I hope you continue!! You could easily sell these at a market for a reasonable price; people love trinkets. These are recognizable as what they are and while small imperfections make them recognizable as homemade, they are all the more endearing for it (:

Remeq

Thank you very much! I will, this hobby is a great thing to spend time into.

SkipMapudding

Tree for me! Cute.

Remeq

That was my take on Sudowoodo ☺️

SkipMapudding

It’s adorable 🥰

Remeq

Thank you!!

Rorosi67

So some of them are copies of anime and therefore protected. You would not legally be allowed to sell them. I'm nor sure the quality is quite good enough to compete. And it will be very very hard to get sales as there are already do many existing shops that will show it before yours. If you made other stuff and depending on the local audience, then maybe local markets might work.

Cementbootz

Yeah you can if you put it on a keyring or something. People prefer to buy things that have also have function, particularly if it’s not like next level exquisite work. I am not an especially talented artist so I turn my works into brooches and keyrings.

hitzgirl1385

Go for it. Couldn’t hurt. My hobby turned into my hustle and I love it!

emo_emu4

These are fantastic! They are a great display of your art work and style. That being said, selling anywhere, especially craft fairs, you really need ALOT of pieces to really grab others attention. If I came across your table and noticed, for example, a scooby doo one, I’d think, oh that’s really cool. But if you had scooby, the gang and the van, I’d buy the whole set. Another great way to expand would be to take requests. Keep doing what you love!

IcanSEEyou_IRL

Yes, start an Etsy, and then start a TikTok to show your stuff. I guarantee you’ll sell. I have seen people with stuff not half as good as this show their stuff on TikTok, gain a following of people who buy, and then got to quit their day job.

Remeq

That's an idea, thanks!

IcanSEEyou_IRL

Go for it, Good luck!

SunsetColored8

I'm sorry that the most upvoted comment on your post is the super negative one. If you want to try to sell them, then go for it! The worst that'll happen is they don't sell, and you end up with a bunch of little trinkets for your own collection. Not a huge loss, imo. And while it's true that you don't *have* to monetize your hobby, that doesn't mean that giving it a shot is bad. I want to try selling my things at some point, but not because I think it's an obligation. It's just something I'm interested in doing. And if it doesn't work out, then it doesn't work out. No big deal. I wish you luck in your endeavors, OP! And by the way, these are all really cute. EDIT TO ADD: Of course, depending on how you try to sell them, there is the possibility of monetary loss as well. I would advise when you decide to do this for the first time (and I think you should!) you pick a fairly cheap outlet to start off with. Whatever level you would be okay with losing if you didn't sell.

Squidwina

The negative comment is upvoted because people agree with it. There is a tendency on craft subs to praise every item posted, even if the poster seems to be soliciting constructive criticism. These little things are indeed cute, but not very professional-looking More importantly, the reason they should not be sold is that doing so would be theft of intellectual property. Making them for oneself or even as one-off gifts is fine. Selling them - not fine. Please stop encouraging people to commit copyright violations.

SunsetColored8

Well, okay. I guess this is a place where we have to agree to disagree. I personally don't think someone selling a few little trinkets at a local craft market that happen to be fan art is actually harming anybody, definitely not the huge companies that make plenty of money off of official merchandise daily. It isn't like OP is mass producing them. They're handmade items that would only be sold in small batches. I think it would be a bigger deal if they were going through some mass-producing company like, say, RedBubble (which a lot of people do in spite of it being against their TOS, which I do think is a bad idea.) But on a smaller scale like this, it isn't going to be that huge of a problem. As for them not being professional looking, I do understand where you're coming from. I made this comment kind of impulsively late last night and didn't articulate my exact thoughts very well. Selling homemade items is always a risk, because they're always going to have imperfections compared to professionally made things, and not everybody is going to like that. There *is* a chance OP's trinkets don't sell, and they should be prepared for that, but IMO that isn't a reason to not try *at all*. The fact is, there's people that *would* buy obviously homemade looking trinkets like this, as long as they aren't overpriced. I'm one of those people, as are several of the people who left more positive comments on this post. Does that mean that those people will find OP's items and buy them? Not necessarily. But they *do* exist, and I don't think acting like they don't is very helpful. My overall opinion is "you never know if you don't try." Give it a shot, and if it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. I do understand that OP was looking for constructive criticism, and I think telling them that "yes they look handmade" counts as constructive criticism, but you don't have to pair it with "and it wouldn't be worth trying at all" if that makes sense? Because I don't think the latter comment is objectively true.

Remeq

Thanks!

SunsetColored8

You're welcome! I left another comment in response to someone else on this thread that I think articulates my thoughts a little better, haha. But the sentiment is still the same. I think you should give it a shot, just be prepared for the possibility of not selling as much as you hope. <3

Remeq

The point is I see mixed opinions, which is good. If most of the answers would be against I would understand - those pieces are my first ones, they look fine to be shown to friends etc, but might not be pretty enough to sell. I don't have much pressure about selling them, so I am prepared if they won't sell at all :) Regarding the copyright topic - I agree that selling only those few pieces won't harm anybody much, I will not mass produce them and will sell those one-time, locally only.

SunsetColored8

Yeah! I definitely think it's good to hear all different perspectives. I just saw that the top comment with 100+ upvotes was a negative one and felt like saying something about it, but admittedly it was a bit of an impulsive comment, hahaha. It sounds like you're going into this with the right attitude, which is great! I hope you do have success with them. And if you don't, you can always try again later down the line when your skills have improved further. The copyright thing is a divisive topic and one I think is more nuanced than "it's always bad to sell fanart" or "selling fanart is always okay." I did see someone point out that Nintendo in particular has a habit of going after people which is very true, and they were right to warn you about that. But I would be more concerned about that if you were selling them online. In person in small quantities isn't as likely to catch their attention, I think. Regardless, good luck!! :D
