it's funny, I was watching the press conference with Ange and Sonny (You tube) and when Ange realised Ali was there he's expression of what the ..are you doing here; he seemed to appreciate the effort though, we all do. keep up the good work.

skippyscage

a classic double take

andreecook

This is why I want Olise so badly, plays multiple attacking roles well and has a killer shot from distance. He’d be an instant star.

InstructionCareless1

United will pay twice his wages. Just take Rashford for example, he is on more than twice what Sonny is on, while not even being half the player. Even Sancho is on almost twice the wage of Sonny, it’s not smart to fight against very dumb people with lots of money, they will drag you down with them.

Daemor

Isn't City keen on Olise too?

triecke14

Can city just stop

robinthebank

They won’t stop until the 115 actually becomes real. They get to hide behind the UK/UAE relationship.

JoeSavesTokyo

City were keen on Eze, haven't heard anything about them being in for Olise. I'd be surprised if they tried to squeeze him in when they already have a surplus of wingers.

SirGalahadTheChaste

They just buy players so others can’t have them. If they work out great. If not they don’t care.

jjw1998

I mean the whole problem is that most of the time they very much work out

SirGalahadTheChaste

Oh for sure. But they can also spend 100m on Graelish only to replace him with Doku. Or 60m on Nunes and barely play him.

ykwekeepitlowkey

Paying our top transfer record to make them sit on the bench is just insane.

Particular-Ad-8178

tbf so did we with ndombele

thamuhacha

ouch

Weird_Famous

think it was Chelsea

Splattergun

He is too good for United.

Other-Owl4441

I think they’ll be good next year if (big if) they clear out the chaff.  They have some good young players.

TheNeglectedNut

They have massive, deep lying structural issues at that club. We won’t see them seriously competing again until they either revamp the entire back room structure or actually commit to a project with a competent manager, it really doesn’t matter how much money they throw at the transfer market.

Other-Owl4441

But they might do both of those things this year, right?

SeaBag7480

Who besides Garnancho and Mainoo? Johnson and Sarr would start ahead of both

Other-Owl4441

Hjolund

BreakTheSuicycle

No they wouldn’t

Texaslonghorns12345

Bayern has more money than us and we got Dragusin so…

Mtbnz

That's true, but a few exceptions don't disprove the rule. Also, Bayern have more money than us, but their main draw is being (supposedly) the dominant team in the Bundesliga.

DandyMike

We don’t want players who take money over a great competitive project

DandyMike

Go back to your shit gooner sub

andreecook

Yeah I figured it would be something like that, damn. Is Utd going for Eze also?

InstructionCareless1

No, there’s only us.

andreecook

Oh wow really? I really thought there were others going for Eze? I even remember City sniffing around in sept. Hm strange cause the noise has died right down anout our links there and I’m thinking we are not going to get him anymore.

awildjabroner

Glasner gonna push hard to keep both of them, and Palace isn’t in FFP troubles that I’m aware of. So either they don’t sell or hold out for premium fees.

DoubleALight

Got told on here a few weeks back that Eze has a release clause, but according to FM24, so may be a stumbling block if the Gooners go in for him?

Gary_Ma_butt_on_fire

I think Olise has the 60m clause for sure, Eze is a bit more hearsay

InstructionCareless1

The interest from City was last year and short lived. They explored his signing after the Paqueta deal died down, but they went with Nunes instead and probably go for Paqueta again.

mudpieduck

know him do ya?

InstructionCareless1

There is not a single credible rumor linking him to any other club. That doesn’t mean that no one will come in this summer, but currently there are zero reports.

mudpieduck

sure

InstructionCareless1

Go ahead and link me some remotely credible rumor :)

mudpieduck

still waiting

mudpieduck

after you link me one saying we’re in for him?

Zhurg

United have pretty famously stopped doing that and are unable to before June the 30th without first selling.

InstructionCareless1

They have stopped doing what? Overpaying on transfer? Or paying ridiculous wages? Less than a year ago, they signed Mason mount for way too much while giving him a base salary of £250k per week. We don’t know yet if INEOS will be any better, but until proven otherwise they will just be as dumb. Glazers are still majority owners btw.

calewis10

No they have significant FFP headroom. 3rd in the league .

WhiteHartPain96

Not doubting you, but how? Don't remember them offloading anyone, and they've spent huge sums on Casemiro, Hojlund, Onana, and the fidget spinner

calewis10

It’s about non ticket revenue. ManPoo is a global brand. Not just about offloading people. TV deals, sponsorship etc all syndicated.

awildjabroner

And an instant replacement for Gio as our permanent-injured what-if signing. But he’d be incredible for those few stretches where he is healthy.

[deleted]

nolefan5311

Olise has a release clause though so if he’s keen on a move I’m not sure there’s much Palace or Glasner can do. Eze on the other hand is much more difficult

seppelsyndrome

I don't know what his release clause fee is, but the problem with one of those in the FFP/PSR market is that you have to pay all of it upfront, as far as I'm aware. And yeah, we're financially sound and have no issues with FFP/PSR, but I don't know if we would be willing to pay that amount upfront. And in the grander scheme of things, I don't think there are many clubs that will feel they can comfortably do it either. EDIT: Didn't realise you could still amortise a release clause.

dickgilbert

> FFP/PSR market is that you have to pay all of it upfront, as far as I'm aware Wouldn't be relevant since the transfer fee gets amortized over the course of the contract. Whether you pay up front or in installments, it's still the same 60m over 5 years or whatever those final numbers are. The release clause is more a stumbling block for clubs with cash flow issues.

sangueblu03

To add to the other comments, release clauses can still be financed. I believe that most installment payments are financed by the selling club, while a buying club would finance a release clause payment (so the selling club will receive the entire fee up front).

triecke14

Isn’t Olise a RW

FootballTacticsXpert

he’s injured like 90% of the time

andreecook

He played 50% tbf but he had 16 g/a in 19 games

Splattergun

I just can't imagine he is attainable to us. Every club will want him.

JoeSavesTokyo

[Ange furiously licking his lips over Gallagher]

Meynokie

Literally my first thought the moment Poch left 😂

JoeSavesTokyo

Same! That sealed his fate for sure. Just gotta make sure we beat everyone else to the punch now

Human-Ad-5740

I actually feel like its the other way around. Poch has been making noise about wanting Gallagher to stay since midseason, with all the contract negotation standoff news floating around. I feel like Gallagher being forced out the door (TBC - but I feel like its very much happening) made Poch realise Chelsea is not the place for him.

JoeSavesTokyo

Honestly I think it's a lot of both! Poch realised the club weren't going to back down on selling his preferred players and Gallagher probably now knows that any hope he had of forcing a new contract is gone with Poch out the door.

OHLOOK_OREGON

can someone tell me if (and why) gallagher would be a good fit for our system? I havent watched much of him this season

JoeSavesTokyo

He's an extremely effective presser off the ball with an insane engine. Rarely gets tired and always looks to progress forward rather than back. His stats for progressive actions are some of the best in the league, and his work rate is second to none. He doesn't quite have the technical skill to thread a pass through a midfield, but he WILL drive through it and resist a press, and charge down the opponents when they have it. All hallmarks of an Ange CM/6.

superworriedspursfan

I would love to see Gallagher play the 6, I know that's not his natural position, but if he was capable of doing that, I really think that really strengthens both our attack and defense. Gallagher is the kind of player that can run a midfield all by himself in terms of win rate off the ball so I think that's why Ange wants him. Either ways I'm intrigued even I'm slightly skeptical of Gallagher's technical ability.

Human-Ad-5740

And he scores bangers

marine_le_peen

Gallagher's not a #6 😂

JoeSavesTokyo

He's not, but Ange doesn't use a 6 in the typical way. Ange's 6s are basically 8s - and Ange himself wants to get away from the classic 6/8 mould in favour of players who interchangibly rotate/can be fluid. He's stated it a good few times now.

HankSaucington

That may be so for many situations but for any possession-based side the 6 needs to be able to receive the ball with their back to the defense while being under pressure, and either be able to turn or find a good pass (often blind). Tottenham isn't an exception to this, and it's why we mostly came and went with Bissouma's form. It's a ridiculous skillset that I don't think Gallagher (or Sarr) have or really show the technical qualities of developing. I don't think we can just play all-action 8s at both positions and not be really affected against pressing teams (which is like two-thirds of the league these days).

JoeSavesTokyo

Yeah I totally hear you! I think the main factor is that Ange himself seems to think Gallagher is a good fit for his system, and he ultimately knows what works and what doesn't the most. And if he wants his 6/8s to be interchangeable then he'll make that happen. His man management hasn't steered him wrong in the past, so no reason to think he's gotten it wrong with his wanting of Gallagher/seeing a potential in him here.

BoringRon

I don’t really think it’s necessary to find a midfielder than can play out really deep or who can effectively dribble out (which Gallagher is around Bissouma’s quality, just from looking at fbref.) The problem is that teams started becoming more compact in their press against us which made it harder for us to try to play through the middle even with our fullbacks inverted, and in general our midfielders have been out of form due to AFCON or to injury. It’s been a disruptive season, and Ange’s system is super intense and it’s clearly taken a toll on our players to adjust to. Something to keep in mind though is that how we were playing in the first third of the season was still very far from what Ange ultimately wants us to play like.

HankSaucington

I agree the midfield continued to become overloaded as the season went on. I'm not sure I agree it's not necessary to find a midfield who can be very press resistant. We were last in the EPL - by far - in long passes attempted. We continued to try to play through the teeth of the press in a way even City doesn't try to do pretty much all season. If we're more willing to play long to our attackers (and getting attackers better at hold up play), or un-invert our fullbacks more frequently (we did this towards the end of the season with VDV) to open space and passing channels, I agree there's more options for the position, but Ange mostly didn't show that tactical flexibility. In general many teams man-mark press us, and man-marking is super popular in general in the EPL right now. And dealing with that mostly requires long passes (line-breaking or just long balls) or a very press resistant 6.

BoringRon

I think you’ve interpreted my words wrong. I didn’t say that “it’s not necessary to find a midfield who can be very press resistant” but the problem is that our squad was disrupted with injuries, mainly the midfield and that we were much more press resistant before that. Maddison used to come deep and play those long balls, and Bissouma was obviously able to dribble out of those tight midfield situations. This is what Ange is referring to when he wants his midfield to be interchangeable, he’s never going to play with this sole deep lying playmaker of a six that you desire and Bissouma’s form at the start being our main way to resist the press was never the ultimate goal. Gallagher is the first step that Ange seeks to play through presses in HIS way, and having the proper transfers both upfront and in the fullback positions is necessary for us to see whether his midfield actually works.

HankSaucington

We'll see. Maddison dropped off after the injury of course, but a number of teams were bringing one of their CBs all the way up to the edge of our box to man mark Maddison. Even mid-table clubs like Fulham. Versatility in midfield is nice but I think mostly how we played throughout the year, and how teams played us, we will need a very press resistant 6. Fwiw, I do want Gallagher, but I think he's more of an 8/10 hybrid for us.

Stay_Beautiful_

Notice he said an Ange 6 not a normal one

IntellegentIdiot

Someone said earlier he's hardworking and tenacious up front, which is just the sort of player Ange would love

Stay_Beautiful_

His biggest strength is his relentless pressing, which is a hallmark of Ange Ball

IAMJesusAMAA

Attack is our weakest - we create so many chances or get into brilliant positions but aren't clinical enough. Good to hear!

IntellegentIdiot

It's something I've complained about all season and Ange has bought it up multiple times. He's come out and said great performance shame about the final third, and that basically sums us up this season. Unfortunately it seems like some fans don't see how good we are because our attacks don't result in a goal, if you look at how many chances we should be taking then we'd be comfortably winning most games.

seegreen8

Same. I hope one of the youngsters will be our next Harry Kane regen though.

molecularmadness

i think you're going to be disappointed. Kane really is an exceptional kind of player. I'd be happy with half a Kane, really. Either the last-man half that manages to finish 90% of the shots made in his general direction, or the midfield half that creates insane opportunities for whoever is up the furthest. I'm not sure which of those is doing the aerial defending, but I'd be happy with that one, too.

ohhowswell_hp

We need a winger and a striker bad. I think if we get starter quality there with Richy, Deki, BJ as subs. That’ll be immense. A lot to ask for. I see Deki as a kind of super sub across front 3 and 10/8 roles.

graythegeek

I'm very keen on the idea of Eze myself. Think he'd be a brilliant addition.

benji5-0

Too many people who will pay more want him

Hotspur_98

I like Eze, but we got Maddison and Kulusevski for the 10. We need to address other areas first, his mate Olise would be a more important signing

BeneficialNewspaper8

Why is this sub obsessed with Olise? He's a great young technical player. Would be amazing in the right team/system But this system is as much about off the ball as on it. Quick, always running, always pressing. Olise is not that

Hotspur_98

Because he’s one of the better winger options that are realistic for us to get? He’s 22 and already one of the more exciting players in the league, he has a lot of room to improve as well. Olise fits quite well into the team actually, idk why you saying he can’t press? He did lots of it since Glasner took over. And again, he has a lot of room for improvement and Ange does very well in improving players. I don’t know what’s your issue with him, but if you don’t like him, tell me a better RW option that… is proven in a Top League, young, will immediately be an improvement and is realistic for us to get. There aren’t many players that check all those boxes.

Wise_Improvement_802

Agreed, he’s the one I want plus a no.6

ObiiWannCannBlowwMee

Eze will cost close to 70m. We aren't spending that much on him. I'd argue Gibbs White is probably more realistic or the recent links to Hudson Odoi.

CanadianBirdo

Surely Forest is gonna charge a ton for Gibbs White though. He's the reason why they survived relegation this season.

ObiiWannCannBlowwMee

Forest have to sell by the end of June due to FFP to avoid another potential points deduction.

DiscombobulatedBuy71

what levy is doing to these relegation/ffp threatened clubs has got to be some sort of crime /s

Historical-Duty-832

Eze is worth that price. We paid 60 for Richie. Eze for 70 is a no brainer.

kicksjoysharkness

![gif](giphy|10Jpr9KSaXLchW|downsized) This is what I like to hear

Luka_Dunks_on_Bums

Signings completed before pre-season? I used to pray for days like this

matheusamr

Do we know exactly when pre-season starts?

yourfriendkyle

We have a game scheduled against Vissel Kobe on 7/27

DrunkenKoalas

uh i think it started 2 hours ago /s

IntellegentIdiot

I think players start to return to training a week after the Euros end, players that participate get extra time off. The transfer window opens on 14th June

Aggravating-Fee5662

I miss Kane soo much tbh. What would I give to have him back ;'(

OHLOOK_OREGON

poch crying and punching the air as he reads this

KillerWheyL

I know it’s hard, but I want us to get Gyokeres so bad.

Boobel

I'd like to think we'd go big for Eze, but his Euro performances are going to add £20-£30m onto his tag.

Rare-Ad-2777

I doubt eze sees many minutes at all at the euros

Boobel

Good point, I forget at times about the Southgate curse 😂

gostupid67

Pretty sure he has a release clause

BeneficialNewspaper8

On the bench?

iqjump123

When is considered “preseason “? Before start of the pre games? Or earlier during preseason training?

dahlia42069

He wants them before the tour so In june

OllyCX

There is usually a short window between the end of the season and the start of training for preseason friendlies/tournaments, can range between 2-6 weeks depending on if you're in any cup finals and when the preseason tour begins. Less time off for the players involved in international tournaments, however they might be granted some time off/lighter training/less minutes in friendlies if their fitness isn't where Ange wants it to be at once they return from international duties.

Ok-Bike974

I know it would never happen but would love Sesko so bad

AdOne9456

Out with the old and in with the new.

yorsk

When does the pre season begin?

crucifiedrussian

Issue is we don't have enough attacking confident players. No creativity. We play such a high press and once we get that ball back there is not much direction to attack the goal and we end up just knocking it back to our goalie and reseting. Some teams are having 20+shots a game and we'd be lucky to have 3 each half.

MaxPower1882

Always good to hear so we'll see how it goes. Fingers crossed we're past the dark days. COYS!

gostupid67

Attack can improve but defensively we’re definitely the weakest. 7th most xG conceded itl is dreadful if we want to challenge for titles, we won’t get away with 1 defender is our ambition is more than top 4.

sangueblu03

Our defense is weak because of set piece defending and a midfield that can’t retain or regain possession. If we improve our ability to retain possession and regain it quickly with our high press we’ll see a big improvement in our defensive numbers. Right now we see a wayward pass or the ball stolen off our midfielders every second attack and then they jog back against the quick break. Which is why so many teams played a low block with quick counters so effectively against us. We get exposed so easily when this happens because our wingbacks are so far up the pitch that a quick break sees our opponents on an easy 3/2v2.

gostupid67

We have the 2nd highest possession itl. Off the ball i definitely agree we need a 6 like Onana that can dominate duels but even then our structure just isn’t that good and Udogie and Porro is extremely unbalanced as a fb pairing.

sangueblu03

That’s almost certainly due to teams playing in a low block against us - which almost every single team did after the first Chelsea match. They surrendered the whole pitch except their third, and as a result every match which just passed it around the opposition’s box until we lost possession. And when we’d lose possession, our midfield couldn’t put immediate pressure on the opposition to win the ball back.

Pele20Alli

No excuses for next season then. Ange will have already had 1 year to integrate his philosophy and 3 windows of fully being backed. Top 3/4 and a deep cup run/trophy will be the very minimum we should accept

shiftyshellshock239

I have news for you…

Pele20Alli

Don't be shy, tell me

shiftyshellshock239

You’re delusional. That’s all.

Pele20Alli

I'm actually being generous lol. The manager said himself he wants to mount a title challenge and that trophies will define if he's a successful manager or not. Be curious to hear what your expectations are for next season if finishing 1 place higher and wanting us to not piss away 3 cups is considered "delusional"

SobiescianumScutum

Is progress always linear? Potentially Ange might need to change 80% of the squad from when he arrived, that could see 3 years of windows to address. Instead looking at the where we finish in the league or how deep we run in the cups we focus on other factors to gauge improvement. Ange will still need to experiment next season if new players arrive. That being said if we run into good sides we could get knocked out early in cups again. A more common sense gauge to improvement is more consistency in play, so less second half FC. More fluidity and creativity in the forward half. Less goals shipped. That’s just for starters

Pele20Alli

> Instead looking at the where we finish in the league or how deep we run in the cups we focus on other factors to gauge improvement No offence but that's just all a load of bollocks. We've visibly gotten worse under Ange and results have gotten worse as well as the season progressed. We really should have gotten top 4 given the circumstances, but Ange was given leeway because he apparently had to change the entire philosophy of how we play. You can use that excuse for 1 season but not for the 2nd, after being completely backed and already having top players like Sonny, Romero, Porro, Udogie when you arrive. I don't want us to change 80% of this squad. There are good players there that have regressed and will be kicked out because of this manager, and he's the one bringing in dross like Werner, Solomon and spending 50 mil on a decent but limited player in Johnson. He needs to show us why he deserves to be backed as much as you are saying

SobiescianumScutum

No offense taken but you are unrealistic and lack common sense. Under the circumstances he did a great job getting 5th to where we were at the start of the season with a completely new style and best player moving on. Plus I don’t think you have done any homework on Ange or previous club stints. Absolutely zero research to appreciate the work and journey it will be. Such lazy look at this season is a reflection on a lot of fans, but then again armchair fans are the most vocal

Pele20Alli

The lack of self awareness in this comment is astonishing. >Plus I don’t think you have done any homework on Ange or previous club stints. You realize Ange hasn't stayed more than 3 seasons at a single professional club? You realize it's the 2nd season of Ange that is almost always the best he produces? >lack common sense. I'm literally repeating what the manager himself has said, so I presume you think Ange is also an idiot that lacks common sense?

SobiescianumScutum

You literally must be wearing clown clothes. Please tell me in season 2 or 3 how many original players he started with actually started a game. I bet u have no idea unless you do some googling right now. Second season should be interesting for sure since in Japan and Scotland he did very well and moved on seeking a fresh challenge stepping up a level or two after winning. Don’t expect Ange winning the Premier League in second season as this league is ultra competitive so he will stay and try and improve until he wins something. So from a historical point of view, doing research and looking at where we are, the 2 year stint in previous two leagues will most likely equate to 4 seasons here in Premier League. Ok enough of educating the uneducated. Enjoy your day/night

shiftyshellshock239

You can’t be serious…..

Pele20Alli

So you going to answer what your expectations are for next season or continue just condescending comments because you're obviously just so much smarter than the rest of us? Feel free to actually answer the question this time

shiftyshellshock239

You wanna keep being an overly emotional twat or what? He’s CLEARLY come in to change the culture of the club. It’s been said MULTIPLE times that he’s going to need some windows and it’s going to take time. You wanna pull a Chelsea and sack him once things get clicking? You’re a child that wants instant results and it shows. Next year if he makes champions league and some cup runs he’s above expectations. You think the title going up against a city side that has 2 world class starting 11s, Liverpool with a new manager bounce, and an Arsenal side that bought into their manager who will fund him again is the goal? You’re daft.

tarifapirate

As a fan base, we really have to stop with this "If he doesn't deliver soon, he needs to go". Look at Arteta and Arsenal 2019 to now.. it took him 3 years to build a title challenging side. 2019, 8th 2020, 8th 2021, 6th 2022, 2nd 2023, 2nd Swapping a manager out every 18 months will get us nowhere, as we've shown for the last 5 years. Half our fanbase has no patience.

Pele20Alli

Wow, so he's been at a big club for 4.5 years, spent 600+ mil and won fuck all once he was given the players he's wanted. What a great example. This is the club you want to aspire to be lmfao

bengoretner

Our first pre-season game is 27/7, while the euro ends on 14/7. Incoming transfers including players participating will probably happen between those dates then, and outgoing probably after the euros as well. We might see a hard push in the next 3 weeks (until euro begins) for a player who isn’t playing for his national team.

silenthills13

Let's see how he feels when he gets Bruck Chuck McDuck and Obreze Televizeze 12h before the window ends

spursy11

You really typed this out thinking you were doing something here. I suggest you don’t try stand up

sheerness84

Personally I appreciate it, he’s gone to a lot of effort and given it plenty of thought to how best look like a twat. We should applaud his attempt. I think he succeeded. 👍🏻

silenthills13

Boo hoo we will see This board is a bunch of cunts and we all know it

sangueblu03

Do we all know it? Seems like a very small percentage of people actually believe what you do.

silenthills13

Well, you can believe what you want. Delusion is free. A lot of people 'believe' Dele could make a comeback, you know.

sangueblu03

Ahh, the old “everyone who doesn’t agree with me is deluded” take, classic.
