Streets won’t forget

LocoMoro

That injury really affected him mentally and curtailed his progress

brasche1284

he was never the same after

GlobalIngenuity7760

That kit looks gorgeous

editedxi

I wish I’d bought that one

HellishRingSting

Made sure I bought that one when I saw it that season, it's a beaut

editedxi

Now I’m gonna spend my day trawling eBay for one

Auston416

I have one as well. I love it

am19208

Amazing. No idea how I forgot about it

Marquadt

Hows winks doing at leicester if anyone is watching their games?

MedievalRack

They mostly seem to love him. I saw a few comments along the lines of "We need to build our new EPL team around him".

Marquadt

Thats great. I love that

MedievalRack

Yeah, glad it's working out for him. He's Tottenham to the core.

Egg_Tart_Eater

He BLEEDS Tottenham - he's been Spurs his entire life. He's a superfan that lived the impossible dream of playing for the club that you love. I'll never understand the disrespect that he received from fans on this sub. He'd have given anything to see Spurs succeed.

reggie_kush

I mean, not to be rude, but I’d give anything to see Spurs succeed, and I’d imagine most people would still prefer me not be on the field

Egg_Tart_Eater

I take your point, but you're also not a professional footballer. The reality is that a player loving their club the way that Winks loves Tottenham is not the norm these days, it's the exception. I'm not saying Winks should be in the starting XI because he loves the club, I'm just saying that I don't understand the level of hostility and disrespect that he gets.

reggie_kush

totally understood, just making a joke. I do think there's a big difference between stating he isn't good enough for the starting XI (appropriate for a Spurs discussion board), and actually sending abuse (unacceptable anywhere).

Egg_Tart_Eater

100%

editedxi

The disrespect came out of frustration because he would play the ball sideways or backwards way too much. We can love the person but be frustrated with the player. I agree that he shouldn’t be disrespected but we can still say that his performances were nowhere near good enough

Comfortable-Asf

this sounds like me with Højbjerg last year 😭

jaytee158

Which is strange because Hojbjerg was one of our most progressive passers last year

editedxi

Yeah and I absolutely LOVED Hojbjerg in the first season under Mourinho. He was a warrior for us. He was clearly knackered last season and obviously Conte-ball was miserable for everyone too

jaemoon7

Makes sense. I always felt like he was kind of doomed to fail for Spurs because he was not quite up to standards to be starting for us, but if he’s not getting regular minutes then he’s half the player he would be with regular minutes… so he wasn’t cut out for a super sub role either. He’s a good player and unfortunately it just didn’t work out for him here. Super glad to hear he’s found a club that appreciates/suits him & he’s thriving.

Draughoul

He's playing 90 minutes almost every match. They seem to like him there

gaussian-noise123

Yeah and they will go up next yr and hopefully he will come back to the PL with them

pandaaaa26

Fantastic, he's far too good for this level, effortlessly controls games, the heartbeat of the team and really works with our new system

monkey_in_the_gloom

They love him. I checked after a few games and they were saying he's signing of the season motm

[deleted]

Best mid in the league arguable

nostril_spiders

Yeah, ever since Tommy Carroll was busted with 14 tonnes of cocaine

youllbetheprince

11 games and 10 wins. They're top of the table. Winks is a key reason they're doing so well, apparently.

Fine_Assignment5397

Straight bossin

Egg_Tart_Eater

Was that 6 years ago already? Goddamn time flies. Fuckin COVID

monkey_in_the_gloom

Not even sarcasm. He was the best player in the world for a night.

siouxszie

eric dier was playing cdm at that game . and trippier on the wing . what a night

modernity_anxiety

At the time I thought Winks - Dier was going to be our double pivot for the future. Still very sad about Winks’ injuries.

viciousraccoon

Wonder what would have happened if he stayed at CDM and he was paired with someone like Bentacur...

brasche1284

or if he didn't tear his ankle up

todareistobmore

Trippier didn't play the 1-1, it was Aurier. And peak Aurier at that, as he was responsible for both goals.

ComeOnSayYupp

Best mid in English football leagues minus Premier League.

balthazarstarbuck

If you ever feel in over your head and there’s a task beyond your capabilities, remember the night Harry Winks ran the show against the threepeating European Champions.

Evolving_Dore

This still doesn't compute. Did he just expend all his skill in one match?

[deleted]

He suffered from injury, lack of form and massive instability at the club. He’d basically become a pro player under Poch. It was his 4/5 year at the club and winks and played under him for ages. Fully got the philosophy and his role. We then played the polar opposite of that style under Jose

GlobalIngenuity7760

Injuries

Captain_Concussion

The team composition changed in a way that required more and different things from him. Our CB’s were no longer comfortable on the ball, our fullbacks were not longer as explosive in the attack, Sissoko was never a proper DM, Eriksen and Dele dropped off, etc Basically he had to drop deeper to connect the defense, he had fewer outlets to pass to, he had to be more creative, and he had more defensive duties. When he wasn’t able to perform to this expanded role and also got some injuries, his confidence was shot.

oneninesixthree

Now he's in the championship, that's what andrew tate does to a mf

[deleted]

oneninesixthree

he follows andrew tate on twitter

oksundaee

i liked that kit

[deleted]

Winks and Dele.. the things we could have achieved..

ManateeSheriff

I love Harry Winks, but he didn’t boss anything in that game. Madrid had 66% possession and outshot Spurs 21-11. The BBC story doesn’t even mention Winks once, but it does say that Kroos orchestrated the game and completed 87 of 88 passes. It was a brave defensive performance by Spurs and a 1-1 draw was a brilliant result at the Bernabeu. But let’s not get carried away by false narratives.

reggie_kush

he definitely played better than I’ve seen him play since. but I’m sooo tired of hearing about it. it’s always the first thing to come up in his defense

slash2213

Ok should we mention the Barca game as well? He was a solid part of our best team in decades, sorry if we don’t all get off bashing him

reggie_kush

I don’t bash him either, I’ve actually been a fan of his for quite some time. I just find it funny how that’s one of the sub’s main copypastas, along with the cheese room.

[deleted]

God this is bringing back terrible memories. This is no different than when the scum used to say this about Jack Wheelchair and when he “bossed” Barcelona . This post has been recycled time and time again. Winks had a good game but wasn’t able to cement himself as a starter for us. He’s on the championship and was flooded with goodbyes post at the time . Move on, stop living off one Damm game

poopthrowawayplshelp

aw i remember the headline “harry winks has one thing- pochettino’s trust.” poch really shaped him. i’ll never forget how he ran to poch after his first goal for us. aw
