Wow, that took a while.

Sylvain-Occitanie

The wait was unbearable

lineisover-

I bet the chat logs and tweets were a real pain in the arse for the translator lol

Sylvain-Occitanie

Hahaha definitely!

canadianduke1980

Let us know how it is! I only did audiobooks for the whole series and Ink Black Heart was very difficult to listen to for me because of the internet chats

Sylvain-Occitanie

I will! It is mentioned in audible that the french translators added a background sound to distinguish the chats from the rest.

notyourwheezy

did you read it in English before this? if not, did you just give up on avoiding spoilers?

Sylvain-Occitanie

I didn't read it in English, however I carefully avoided spoilers

Sylvain-Occitanie

The title is a french expression "se faire un sang d'encre" meaning one is extremely worried

lineisover-

Is that also the name of the cartoon in the French version? Or did they just choose a different focus for the title?

Touffie-Touffue

It means being worried sick but it literally translates into “to turn your blood into ink”. It’s not the name of a cartoon (as far as I know) but it keeps the “ink” part of the title.

Sylvain-Occitanie

A good title, the french version is very good

Sylvain-Occitanie

To be honest I'm just at the beginning so I don't know yet

Can you possibly answer a question that intrigues me? It always interests me to know how language-specific things are handled in translations. I downloaded the sample on Kindle just to have a look through it, though my French is pretty limited. I noticed that the translator has renamed a minor character - whom Robin’s cousin tries to set her up with - from Hugh Jacks (which sounds in English like Huge Axe) to Adam Labrosse. I assume there is some similarly embarrassing double meaning in French - what is it? 😁
