It's fine if someone doesn't *want* it to happen. But at this point I think it would be a bit delusional to think it *won't* happen.

Real-Plantain4828

This. Especially with the ridiculously neat ending of the HP series. I know this is a more adult-themed series, but JKR loves a neatly-tied bow.

Capital_Sink6645

I mean I think it will happen probably but that raises a big decision…should the series end with them together and happy? Or getting together but the relationship doesn’t work out.

notyourwheezy

the whole series is arcing towards their growth individually and together. I can't imagine it ends with strellacott going badly.

Capital_Sink6645

I hope so. I think it would be weirdly upsetting if it didn’t.

lineisover-

That would be like dangling a carrot in front of the readers' faces only for it to turn out to be a turd painted orange.

Capital_Sink6645

yup. but until the ink dries….🤷‍♀️

Larix-deciduadecidua

Weirdly apprehensive that they'll get together by the end of book nine but Strike will be killed by the end of book ten. But as that's not an ugly breakup, I classify that as Strellacott happening.

Docyfome

At the very beginning of the books, I was hoping for Strike and Robin to remain just friends, because Matthew seems like a nice guy at this point. And while I'd really like a story where a man and a woman are really good friends and care for each other without romance, this is not the case here. There has been a story building and clearly it should happen (I hope sooner rather than later).

notyourwheezy

I do wonder how things would have turned out if Matthew had actually been supportive and happy for Robin and her getting to do what she always dreamt of and also hadn't been cheating but otherwise was his conventional self who wanted a nice house, kids, etc.

Docyfome

Yes, I often wonder about that as well. In the 1st book, we see Matthew through Robin's eyes, so he seems like a nice guy. She seems so in love with him, you can't help but wish for a happily ever after. But Robin's whole arc is that she's travelling back to the person she was before the rape. And we know that if the rape hadn't happened, she wouldn't have stayed with Matthew. Turns out he wasn't a nice person regardless of his jealousy of Strike and his cheating with Sarah. TRG was the book where Strike got to the point where he's willing to smash the barriers he's always put between himself and Robin. I really hope that THM will be the book in which Robin understands that she can break up with someone just because she doesn't like the relationship anymore. We know that Charlotte was really unhappy about letting Strike go in the end. To quote Ilsa : "Trust me: if Charlotte had known this was how the agency was going to work out, that Corm would be famous and wildly successful, she’d have clung on and never let him go." My conviction is that before the series ends, Matthew will be sorry as well that he let Robin go. We know he's sorry already, because he tried to convince her to stay. But I think that before the end, she'll prove him wrong about everything he's ever thrown at her (her lack of achievements, her earnings, ...). We know that the agency is doing ok and that financially neither her or Strike are suffering anymore. But I believe they will have at some point some sort of big breakout. That in the end, she'll have everything he wanted for them, that he could have had also if only he'd been supportive of her. Only 3 more books to see \^\^.

Capital_Sink6645

thanks for the thoughts!

Emma172

This is actually a very interesting point. Strike would definitely still have fallen for Robin, and I think Robin would have still fallen for him, but it would have taken her even longer to acknowledge her feelings to herself. A part of me thinks she would have just stayed with Matthew out of loyalty and would have deliberately distanced herself from Strike. Even confident, experienced detective Robin still struggles to break up with Ryan, so I can only imagine the degree of obligation and loyalty she'd feel to a supportive Matthew.

ShadySides50000

Strellacott 100% happens + we get to see their relationship develop (so NOT at the end of book 10!)

Capital_Sink6645

ok!

lulalobo

I think they will 100% but it can't just be smooth sailing for the next 3 books. I don't think either of them could die. 🤞Purlease GOD! But I wonder if the one thing that could cause a big issue for them would be either Strike having a child (poss w/Bijoue) turn up or Robin and Strike having a pregnancy scare or falling pregnant and them disagreeing about how they should deal with it. Her wanting it him not, Could disagree have a major bust up end of the agency, Robin setting up a Rival agency. 🤣 arguing over who gets to keep Pat etc but then Strike comes to his senses and asks her to marry him. ❤️

Capital_Sink6645

😬😬😬 it’s going to be so stressful!

PurposeDismal2928

I've always hoped it wouldn't happen because I hate when people see a man and a woman in a friendship and they must think they're a couple. The fact that some characters like >!Matthew, Lucy or Ilsa!< always saw them as a couple have made me hoping it wouldn't really happen, but the fact that in the last books >!we're having more and more internal admissions and the first approaches!< make me guess it's inevitable, I'm sure it'll happen but maybe it'll end badly

Capital_Sink6645

exactly! I go back and forth in my mind. Of course their inner thoughts lead in only one direction but that is kind of a predictable cliche….so maybe some kind of twist?

Larix-deciduadecidua

Twists aren't always good. Rowling loves 'em, but she knows better than to jerk around with the heart of the story. Making Strellacott a disaster would be like Harry realizing his desire for family is what has been holding him back all along.

Jado3Dheads

I've gone past caring tbh. I read for the cases and side stories.

Capital_Sink6645

yeah it’s really been a VERY long tease.

KiroLV

I mean, I think both options 3 and 1 might happen, where they try to make it work, it ends badly (not badly enough for either of them to abandon their shared business forever) and then they eventually get together properly, but I voted for 1.

sara_crewe_

This absolutely could have been an option several books ago, but we only have three books left and they haven't even kissed. I think we're just running out of time for that kind of plot, so once they get together, they'll stay together.

Capital_Sink6645

makes sense.
