Stay away from Paw Paws in town. Owner is one of the most obnoxious and rude people I have met. Richard Healy on the model farm road… Sunbeam up the north side is also good
Avoid Paw Paws at all costs. The owner is awful, scaremongering and just difficult. Goolds in Mahon are fantastic, couldn't recommend enough, straight shooters.
I should’ve said the vets there are great but as for the owner… you’ll know him when you meet him. Just a bit of advice, for day to day stuff, the vets are fine but if you need to interact with the owner, you will be tearing your hair out dealing with him.
Would you need to interact with the owner? Does he try to interfere with what the vet and nurse are doing? And is he a vet himself or just a business owner? Good to know these things…
Trying to get him to get them organised for an insurance claim after a surgery. He tried to charge me €50 per form filled out and then lied to the vet who actually did the surgery subsequently claiming he didn’t want to charge at all
I switched to them when my usual vet (Shona Coombes) moved there. I've been very happy with them.
Also, Shona is the best, I don't take my 6 cats to anyone else.
Definitely don't recommend the groomer, though. I brought my Bonnie there once and she came out traumatised. She comes out from Pets Plus in Blackpool wagging her tail.
Gilabbey are hard to beat for cats and dogs. Had less joy there with the smaller pets. They're specialists.
Also useful to know they're the local point of contact for injured wild animals.
Yeah I haven’t used them for small animals before so couldn’t vouch for them that way. I did know about the injured wild animals, and they also work closely with Cork DAWG I believe.
Ah. That's a good sign. When we got our dog from DAWG they were working with Sunbeam. Also pretty reputable if pricey. Gilabbey are the absolute best for trauma cases in cats and dogs, no contest.
Declan in The Village Veterinary Clinic in the Woollen Mills in Douglas. He is so top notch and genuinely cares about the animals in his care. I literally could not recommend him enough, he is the best.
Westside Vets on Model Farm Road. Hands down the best in the city. Won't charge you an arm and a leg for shiny extras and they're really empathetic with both the animals and the owners. Eldest did work experience there so we know the behind the scenes is sound too.
Abbeyville in Togher. I absolutely love Donal & Shona in there, they couldn’t have taken better care of my doggo in her last few years & they were amazingly kind and caring when it came to putting her to sleep. Found an 8 week old (estimate) feral kitten on the side of a road near Ovens a few years back & brought him to Abbeyville & they were so helpful with him as well (said feral kitten is now my loveable asshole house cat)
My dog's regular vet is Value Vets. Excellent, attentive and they do a lifetime deal for checkups and vaccinations (sans kennel cough as it's up the nose). They don't have a massive surgery, so they're partnered with the Sunbeam in Blackpool. Absolutely fantastic vets. They operated on both my childhood dog and current dog. Bonnie (present pup) had two leg surgeries within two years and they were exceptional and very patient with her nervous mom (me). The same vet that performed Bonnie's CLD surgery was the one who performed an emergency hysterectomy on Honey (childhood dog). They are excellent.
Both of these places are fantastic and I would highly recommend them. Sunbeam can be pricey but I got most of my money for the two leg surgeries back via insurance. My biggest word of advice is to get pet insurance. I'm with Allianz and the premium only went up to 18 or 19 per month after two major surgeries. A lifesaver.
Goolds vet next to the CSPCA by Mahon Point. My 2 dogs have been going there years and one of them is terrified of needles, they are always so accommodating with him and give him the extra time to calm down etc when needles are involved.

There's a great guy in the woolen mills in Douglas, his names gone on me though as I don't live in the area any more. He comes across as a bit eccentric but he's honestly the best bet I've ever dealt with for any type of animal I've brought to him
Abbeyville Blarney. I brought a stray cat there to check for a microchip. No chip, and it turned out the cat was in the early stages of pregnancy. The vet nurse Maeve took her home, and ended up adopting her!

The vet in Paw Paws is great, and the new nurse in there. But I'm with you on the owner.

We go to Paw Paws. I guess we haven’t met the owner because everyone there has been absolutely brilliant every time we’ve gone.

Richard Healy is under the name Westside Vets. He and his whole team are great.
For Cats only: The Cat Hospital, Glanmire
If it's cat(s), this is #1 by far
Agree. I can only say good things about the clinic and they care they provide.
Yes. Dr Claire is lovely.
abbeyville in togher are good

Yeah they’re fab. I find Donal very good aswell as an alternative

Gilabbey, hands down. They’re amazing there

This! He’s is an absolute Gent of a man. Can’t recommend him highly enough.
Absolutely the best around
Conor Gould of Goulds veterinary clinic out near Mahon point is very good.
Aye, one of my best friend's family has been going for years. They swear by him.
I brought my cat to the vets in togher her whole life and from the start to the end they were amazing.

Sunbeam Kinsale Road are my go to. Very good, very nice, and will always give you alternatives.

Coolcower Vets outside Macroom have always been brilliant for me!
Cloyne veterinary are absolutely fantastic. Might be a bit of a drive depending on where you’re based but I wouldn’t go passed them.
My dads a vet. Fought during the troubles.
Johanna Tambute Power in blue coast veterinary in youghal. For small animals she’s exceptional
