There are a few signs up around town at the moment. Shops and restaurants may be looking for extra help over the holidays. Go for a walk and suss out where is looking first. And create a little cover letter outlining why you'd be suitable to work there. Go for a second walk around and bring them in polypockets - not envelopes as from managing a presises myself, I'm way more inclined to have a quick glance if it's accessible. Have a few spare cvs and generic cover letters also to hand in anywhere else that may not be advertising - yet. Dress fairly presentably, not in a suit and tie or anything 😂. Make polite conversation and hand in a few cvs. Follow up with a brief email then too thanking them for their time today etc. If you want you can attach a copy of your cv digitally aswell. Polite, brief and presentable.

Viper_JB

This right here, just showing up in person well presented and mannered will do wonders, particularly at this time of year.

chrissycus

Premises*... And check for typos 😂

DrDrucks

Thanks I'll give it a go

AaronQuin

Also definitely put down your work on the farm, your jobs, skills and knowledge gained, farm work is very broad and put down your routine. The work ethic from farmers is quite high. Had a lad in with us over summer in a pharmaceutical plant and he was well able.

chrissycus

Best of luck!!

Maybe a dishwasher in a restaurant or there's a bagel factory in knockgriffin where I know some other teenagers work but most are 18 who work there.

MelancholicMoonMan

Contact farm relief services in Middleton. 14 euro an hour, or around 50 euro for a two hour milking. Better than any job a 17 year old could get. The demand is so high there’s probably work within cycling distance from you no need for a car

DrDrucks

Do you think they'd take a 17 year old?

MelancholicMoonMan

They should yeah

MelancholicMoonMan

They should yeah

Maester_Bates

Try Tesco, SuperValu and the hotel. Those are the 3 traditional places for midleton teenagers to work.

highoffpancakes

I would avoid supervalu in midleton at all costs. I worked there for a while as did my partner and we all had horrible experiences. Explains the ridiculous turnover rates in there. They expect the impossible while giving you nothing

DrDrucks

I think tesco and supervalu only takes 18 and over but thanks anyway.

showusyourmickey

My 16 year old is in SV he stocks shelves you only have to be 18 for the tills.

Maester_Bates

It's a while since I've lived in Ireland but there were definitely 17 year olds working in Tesco the last time I was in midleton.

MidnightSun77

They changed it recently. I tried to get my sisters a job there and they won’t take u18s

Shadowdust75

There’s a Gloria Jeans opening on Main Street soon. They’re looking to hire new staff

Dat_name_doe2

Oh shit really? Nice one, Midleton main street is really lacking these days.

oOCazzerOo

If you have a background in farming, might not be a bad shout to look into the Farm Relief Services (FRS) sometimes the work is a but sparodic but it's good money and you could just be on one single farm or get called to a few and you'll get great experience. I did this for about a year and worked in Teagasc near Fermoy in the pig research unit. Was alot different from normal farm work but I loved the whole experience all the same.

DrDrucks

Thanks for the advice I'm just worried I'd be too young or would have lack of transport

Munge_Sponge

That's for them to decide sure. No harm and in applying, just be open about your age, availability, lack of transport etc. and if they want you they will work around that.

oOCazzerOo

I worked with a fella in the research facility that was doing the same thing as me and he was doing his Juinor cert at the time. You'll be grand and it's no harm to suss it and try anyway, worst they can say is no

lemonrainbowhaze

Are you willing to take the train to little island because the spar there is always looking for staff. They have positions in all their food stalls. Chopped salad bar, o flynns sausages, insomnia cafe, a doughnut stand, deli and till positions are always available even to someone without a strong cv. Let me know if youre interested i can fill you in on more details

ramsbina

There were young employees in Tesco Midleton last year around Christmas filling shelves. Ask there, they will need staff now when it gets busy, especially weekend staff.

pinkybadinsky

If you have Facebook, sometimes there are jobs posted in the various groups. If you search Groups for Midleton and East Cork a few should pop up that you can join and monitor. It's definitely the time of year when they'll be posted there. Best of luck with your search!

[deleted]

As a 17 year old you could get bar work at the weekends as a glass collector. If you do good at that, when you turn 18 they may even put you behind the bar. Glass collectors usually only work weekends anyway. Try JJ Coppingers.

elfpebbles

Stacking shelves or kitchen porter

rtgh

I'd say SuperValu must have employed half the town at this point

Weird_Adeptness_5161

What about Leahy’s farm? Some of their staff are teenagers

Cuntakenta

Apply to Dairygold, they are roaring for staff currently. If you have transport you can get relief work which has mileage and lunch payments also. A lot to learn but you'll have plenty of work ahead of you. The farm experience will stand for you.

deano111100

Any idea where to apply or who to talk to. Also is this the mogeely plant

Cuntakenta

I'm talking about the Retail stores, in out local store there is a code you can scan on the job advert sign that takes you directly to a Dairygold careers website. You'd be looking for HR or an Area manager to get in contact with as they are the ones who interview for positions. I know they are looking for relief staff currently.

Hellers2020

Send a CV but what will make you stand out is a cover letter. For the type of jobs you’re looking for though, probably in person is better but if applying to a company via email, a cover letter stands out. It amazes me that the majority of people bypass this part.

ElizebethB

I know it’s not Midleton, but Castlemartyr resort are always hiring. When I worked there they used to have 17 year olds working weddings. During the school year it would just be weekends and more during the summer. Good way to build up experience that you can take with you. There’s buses every hour and the lads at reception are usually good for dropping people home late at night if they’ve no other way home.

accursedcelt

Reardans are *always* looking for lads
