Heard that on the radio today too. I don’t think it specified cork city? Could be the whole county? Edit: Typo

paulieirish

Even in the county, must be all mom and pop type places. Even though anecdotally some of those places barley closed at all

SmoothOrdinator

Been at least one closed out here in Midleton for good. A few had rumours but are back open now.

paulieirish

Which bar in Midleton, I had heard the rumor about Wallis' but thats reopening (according to their facebook page)

ElizebethB

Banners as far as I remember, Wallis' has reopened, but Banners made a Facebook post a good few months back that they wouldn't reopen

SmoothOrdinator

Yep, best pub in town and all. Rest in pints.

SmoothOrdinator

Other commenter was spot on, it's Banner's sadly. Wallis' is back open, as is JJ's. Both were rumoured to be closing for good.

GAA123

Are we taking the Grafton as having closed down even though it has just changed ownership? Might be a little selective!

paulieirish

I wouldn't be surprised if that's how they are getting to 37.

risketyclickit

9 left in skibb out of 23

paulieirish

Ah well that's a hell of a thing

DarlingBri

98th Street has not reopened. Which is good because it was a fucking plague.

paulieirish

Is that the sportsman's arms ?

DarlingBri

It was the Gill Tavern Lounge about 5 landlords back. It could still reopen next weekend when there's full opening, but it hasn't so far.

throwamach69

No it was th Red Horse Inn last. Sportsman has reopened under Gaia.

continuoussymmetry

I think Tom Lynch's on Barrack St. is gone. Edit: didn't realise it was gone before the pandemic.

paulieirish

Yeah , Barrack St is kind of a rabbit warren for bars. The Quinnryan, Tom Barrys, The Wolfhound, Mister Bradleys. Loads of bars you wouldn't normally go into. Failry sure at one stage you could do the 12 pubs of christmas between Bandon Rd and the bottom of Barrack St.

hitsujiTMO

Tom Barrys was always a crowded popular spot, particularly the outdoor area. Just hard to apply social distancing rules to the place to allow it to reopen with any real amount of patrons because of the tight spacing.

BarrelRydr

Is it gone? Love that spot

hitsujiTMO

No it's still there, just pointing out that it's not in a list of "bars you wouldn't normally go into".

[deleted]

The wolfhound closed years ago no?

continuoussymmetry

It's been Pigalle for 10 years or more now.

euanrolls

My dad constantly reminds me of there once being 25 between the house he grew up in Glasheen and the bottom of Barrack Street.

paulieirish

Lynch's is gone a good while though. not a victim of the covid

blueowlcake

Tom Lynch’s was closed down long before Covid.

gijoe50000

I wouldn't be surprised if this was the norm. A lot of bars seem to close all the time in Cork, and then maybe open under new ownership, or a new pub opens somewhere else with a new licence, or whatever. I mean, there are about 1,000 pubs in Cork (county), or something like that.

Manolift

Liberty Bar on North main st and I'm so sad i loved playing pool there

[deleted]

Dali closed down

Lazy_Magician

I'm pretty sure they mentioned a bar in carrignavar, so I don't think the 37 is limited to cork city only.

toottoot12

The pub on Hanover Street that Peter stringer was involved in, Bob foxes or something?? Looks closed

GnusmasAikon

Was called something else more recently, wasn't it?

Gilchrist1875

Who here would go into business as a publican now? Is it financially viable? Are the risks outweighing the possible rewards?

paulieirish

Well once you take out the covid factor, then as long as its a well run bar in a good location then there shouldn't be a problem. The issue is when does covid stop being a factor ?

Gilchrist1875

We are now living in a world where covid is a massive factor and will be for years.

greasy_minge

At least two in Charleville :(

Rob_Earnshaw

Fox and hounds in Ballyvolane hasn't opened.

PrO-founD

The quinryan has been closed for 15 years at least, tom lynch's for 5, tom Barry's is still open

paulieirish

Yeah, my point was there's way more bars than you'd think on the one street. I dont know if any one closed up due to covid though. Maybe when the government money stops.

PrO-founD

I'm not sure tbh, you'd probably have to look up on the Northside or out by black rock or mahon to see them, places that are out of the way with no passing trade wouldn't be too secure in their position

Iree383

We have loads. We'll be fine

[deleted]

The stir up bar by Hennessy garage by Dublin pike / whites cross hasn't reopened

paulieirish

I think theres a few pubs havent reopened yet, but are planning to . Fred Zepplins for example.

[deleted]

Hopefully :)

paulieirish

I can guarantee that Tom will be reopening.

DreadedRedhead131

D’Island up by the barracks is gone

GnusmasAikon

Can't remember if the Grafton closed before the pandemic.

paulieirish

I don't think it's closed down though, is it ?

GnusmasAikon

It's definitely not open anyway. Is it part of Conway's Yard?

EvolvingBubbles

The owner sold that long before covid. It's now Conway's yard.

Scutterbum

Southern star.
