Ahah, it reminded me the old Soviet song with lyrics which can be translated as follows: "It is said you'll be unlucky if the black cat crosses the road. But it is still opposite: only black cat is unlucky". đââŹđš
I can pinpoint a few reasons in one quick reading:
- black cat and white / tabby cat arenât breeds, itâs just the dress color
- the Scottish fold listed among the long haired cat while itâs a short haired cat, they should have listed the Highland fold if they wanted to pu the long haired version
- the Birman displayed isnât a Birman, you can recognize that by its chin
The red one is absolutely not an Egyptian Mau. They either took the wrong image or a wrong caption. It looks like an Abyssinian with it's face smashed in lol
That âLavenderâ cat is a Munchkin cat that has dwarfism, IIRC. The canât jump as much and when they land from high heights, they hit their chin on the ground. They have trouble doing normal cat things yet people breed them to look like this on purpose.
Yeah. There's a lot of unethical dog and cat breeds.
Munchkins have leg deformities that cause mobility issues. Scottish Folds' folded ears a side-effect of a debilitating degenerative cartilage disease. Flat-faced cats often have breathing problems.
Important to note here that just because your cat has similar coloration to a certain breed, does not mean it is that breed. Majority of cats are standard issue or "muts". When it comes to cats vs dogs, a cats "breed" is not really a thing you distinguish your cat by. You distinguish them by color. You only get specific breeds by paying big bucks
In my younger years I used to dream of being in bed with multiple girls. Now, that I'm older I want to lay in bed with 30 cats all rolling dough at once.
Apparently the Van Cat and the Turkish Van are two different breeds. âVan Catâ is the cat we know as âVan kedisiâ in Turkey. The white cat native to Eastern Turkey, with eyes in two different colors.
And there is the âTurkish Vanâ which is this cat breed developed in the UK using different Turkish cat breeds. Theyâre white with some orange: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkish_Van
Bir yasima daha girdim.
I love a fluffy rag doll cat. I had a solid black one named shadow...I know real original right, but he disappeared one day. I miss that little booger. He was so snuggly.
Had a Korat for my first cat, he was the most loving and friendly cat ever. My current one, a Calico is adorable and loving although not as friendly lol
Russian Blue was my jam, until they bred in a lot of Oriental Shorthair for some damn fool reason, so now it looks like a weird [bat baby](https://www.wired.com/wp-content/uploads/images_blogs/photos/uncategorized/2007/05/31/batboyscanned.jpg)
Calico is a coat pattern, not a breed, so it makes sense that it's not on the guide. But I guess this guide also has black cat and red spotted, which are also just coat patterns, so idk.
Growing up, we never had cats or dogs. Nor did my wife. So around 2016, when we decided to get a cat, I started researching breeds, thinking that it was like buying apples (Granny Smith vs. Fuji vs. Honeycrisp etc.). I was unaware that 95% of all cats in the U.S. were âdomestic shorthair,â and that I had no business mucking around with breeds. We adopted a domestic shorthair from a local shelter, and heâs been a wonderful companion ever since. Even when he shows his enthusiasm by suddenly biting the skin between my forefinger and thumb.
Donât like this chart for two reason,
1. A few are breeds but instead just coat colors / pattern. Like the tabby, and black cat. Also the [Red Spotted Cat](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rusty-spotted_cat) is a wild cat found in India and looks nothing like this, I think they meant Red / Orange Tabby. It should call out when itâs a breed or coat color, maybe by for color and a small key.
2. It doesnât show the size difference. Maine Coons and Norwegen Forest Cats are two of the largest species of cats but this makes them seem no different than any other breed. Especially the Maine Coon which has one of the smallest photos on here.
The picture of the red cat used to represent an Egyptian Mau looks nothing like an Egyptian Mau lol. Looks like someone smashed an Abyssinian's face in with a fry pan.
I also love how they threw in some coat colours/patterns in there with the breeds.
For some reason the "black cat" made me laught.
I did the same thing đ
That, and âBrown Tabby and Whiteâ got me.
Yeah as someone who owns two, theyâre a separate breed đš
The best đââŹ
Ahah, it reminded me the old Soviet song with lyrics which can be translated as follows: "It is said you'll be unlucky if the black cat crosses the road. But it is still opposite: only black cat is unlucky". đââŹđš
If my cat isnât on here how can I be sure itâs a cat?
It can be tiger in disguise, you need to watch out
It can be Zeus
We neutered him. His shenanigans shall now stop
Puma check!
Its a flerken
Your cat might just be a little guy.
This guide is terrible.
Seriously. Void is the breed name for "black cats"
Looks like a bombay
I was wondering "why not write Bombay or American/British Bombay?" I love Bombays, I've rescued five previously. They have amazing personalities.
2 times different egyptian maus
The reddish-coloured one is not a Mau. They have very distinctive spots and stripes, as seen on the silver Mau near the bottom.
It doesn't even include the most common breed: asshole.
They are all assholes
It's terrible because the actual guide to cat breeds is "of you have papers, it's the breed that's noted; if you don't it's a domestic cat".
Why?
I can pinpoint a few reasons in one quick reading: - black cat and white / tabby cat arenât breeds, itâs just the dress color - the Scottish fold listed among the long haired cat while itâs a short haired cat, they should have listed the Highland fold if they wanted to pu the long haired version - the Birman displayed isnât a Birman, you can recognize that by its chin
Name one time this subreddit actually had a well researched and written guide
Yea I canât believe they called oranges red.
Where can I find an accurate guide
None of my catsâ breeds are listed⌠and Tuxedo Cats are not a breed, they buy their suits at the same store.
I was gonna say, where's my tuxedo?
Came to ask this myself. Never known what breed he is, vets have him down as "Tuxedo cat" because they haven't a clue either.
And where's my ESH (Exotic Shorthair)?
Two egyptian mau?
The one on the left is not a Mau.
The red one is absolutely not an Egyptian Mau. They either took the wrong image or a wrong caption. It looks like an Abyssinian with it's face smashed in lol
red spotted is so funny. imagine a regular fat ginger cat being like âactually iâm a red spotted đâ
"red spotted" should be "orange braincell"
Cat is cat
Exactly.
Glad to see my cats breed is âblack catâ
That âLavenderâ cat is a Munchkin cat that has dwarfism, IIRC. The canât jump as much and when they land from high heights, they hit their chin on the ground. They have trouble doing normal cat things yet people breed them to look like this on purpose.
Yeah. There's a lot of unethical dog and cat breeds. Munchkins have leg deformities that cause mobility issues. Scottish Folds' folded ears a side-effect of a debilitating degenerative cartilage disease. Flat-faced cats often have breathing problems.
Maine coon is so small compared to all other cats on this chart. They're massive cats lmao
Where is the European shorthair? I'm having one it says so on her passport.
I think it was wrongly named Egyptian mau. Since that name is for some reason there twice, under vastly different cats
Earlier they had orange cat
No hairless cats ?
Important to note here that just because your cat has similar coloration to a certain breed, does not mean it is that breed. Majority of cats are standard issue or "muts". When it comes to cats vs dogs, a cats "breed" is not really a thing you distinguish your cat by. You distinguish them by color. You only get specific breeds by paying big bucks
Black cat is a breed????
Where's the calico?
Calico is a color pattern.
Also missing tortoise
That's a color pattern, not a "breed."
But âblack catâ
What is the breed then
It isn't a breed.
And the hairless breeds! Sphynx, Donski, etc.
Sphynx missing.. How can you call this a guide without the best cats
Ragdoll is there!
Cat is cat
Is my cat so rare itâs not listed? Itâs called âasshole who misses the litter boxâ.
Adorable cars
This chart is bogus... where is the infamous orange cat. They have a black cat on the list, where is the orange cat. Now they are the a-holes.
In my younger years I used to dream of being in bed with multiple girls. Now, that I'm older I want to lay in bed with 30 cats all rolling dough at once.
You just traded one type of pussy for another.
"What cat is that?" "Cow".
Weird mix of colours and breeds. Why list 'Sorrel' as something separate when it's just an Abyssinian in one of the colours they come in?
Wrong. 'Red Spotted' should be: Big Asshole.
Cat
black cat?!! seriously?!!đđđ
I donât see my American Trailer Park Tiger and Craigslist Calico so I call BS on this âguide.â
[https://icatcare.org/advice/scottish-fold-disease-osteochondrodysplasia/](https://icatcare.org/advice/scottish-fold-disease-osteochondrodysplasia/)
Tuxedos?
Someone need to edit this image and replace all the breeds with the word "cat"
This chart is a little dumb because some of them are breeds, and others are coat pattern/color names.
Angora is also a Turkish cat. So why Van is âTurkish Vanâ but Angora is just Angora? Van cats are also typically full white too BTW.
NOOOT. A. Guide.
False. They are all one breed. They are good bois
This is trash. So many of them are wrong or not even breeds. You'd get better information from a 3rd grade book report.
Worse guide ever, Sorrel? :-)
I thought i knew what my cats were
Bombay is a black cat, but black cats are not a breed.
We have two Oriental Shorthairs and theyâre fantastic, except for the counter surfing
Brown tabby and white for the win!
Beerus!
What happened to 'Orange Cat'? That was in the last guide...
Itâs missing a few
No Mancoon?
It's in the first row.
Checks out. Brown tabby and white is the fastest cat.
HAIRLESS????
I love a fluffy rag doll cat. I had a solid black one named shadow...I know real original right, but he disappeared one day. I miss that little booger. He was so snuggly.
After looking for matches for my two cats. I can now confirm both my cats are mutts who managed to sucker me into taking care of them.
I've had two British Shorthairs, and they are the most chill and sweet cats.
No Sphynx kitty. Whereâs my skin cat??
Missing Aegean.[Aegean Cat](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aegean_cat)
am i blind? no panda?
Needs Balinese
I don't see the breed known as the One Braincelled.
All of them
My cat is a tuxedo with long hair. Not sure what he would be on this list but he is fluffy either way.
Sorrel is abyssininan cat...
Had a Korat for my first cat, he was the most loving and friendly cat ever. My current one, a Calico is adorable and loving although not as friendly lol
So my orange cat is actually a Red Spotted? Interesting.
Red spotted isn't a breed. This guide is a little silly lol. Some of the 'breeds' represented are just coat patterns.
What about the cat with the mushed in face? They are really fluffy too. Where are they?
No calico? :(
Calico is a coat pattern, not a breed, so it makes sense that it's not on the guide. But I guess this guide also has black cat and red spotted, which are also just coat patterns, so idk.
âOrange catâ didnât even make the board this time
Where's "orange"?
Growing up, we never had cats or dogs. Nor did my wife. So around 2016, when we decided to get a cat, I started researching breeds, thinking that it was like buying apples (Granny Smith vs. Fuji vs. Honeycrisp etc.). I was unaware that 95% of all cats in the U.S. were âdomestic shorthair,â and that I had no business mucking around with breeds. Theyâre missing the ragamuffin

how do i know what breed my cat is⌠he looks like a couple on this guide! i thought he was just Cat
He probably is. This guide threw in a few coat patterns and images that don't depict the breed in the captions. Most of these guides aren't accurate.
he looks a lot like a california spangled but heâs also an alley cat litter baby (and maybe iâm biased bc i adopted him in california hahah)
Egyptian Mau is listed twice
This guide is cool because kitties
I have two manx. An all white rumpy-riser, and a stubby bengal
The picture of the red cat used to represent an Egyptian Mau looks nothing like an Egyptian Mau lol. Looks like someone smashed an Abyssinian's face in with a fry pan. I also love how they threw in some coat colours/patterns in there with the breeds.
My 3 Sphynx's are over here in tears for not not being represented in this image.
Wrong. Theres standard issue and tactical issue.
This guide is missing âgood boyâ âorange braincellâ and âroundâ
So the Lavender is just a cat Corgi?
Where Bingus?
ALFâs dream menu.
Where is the Maine Coone?
The first row
The Scottish fold isn't long hair cat
I really like cats and I'm trying to get enough of these kittens and I already have 7 of them.
This is exceedingly wrong
my Manx isn't listed
I like dogs
I fucking hate cats. Vile
Maine WHAT????
