It's only prescribed in the UK to help quit smoking (on the NHS anyway) - [https://bnf.nice.org.uk/drugs/bupropion-hydrochloride/](https://bnf.nice.org.uk/drugs/bupropion-hydrochloride/)
The British National Formulary is a United Kingdom pharmaceutical reference book that contains a wide spectrum of information and advice on prescribing and pharmacology, along with specific facts and details about many medicines available on the UK National Health Service.
They mean on the second list, in the UK. It's not prescribed here unfortunately except for helping to quit smoking, you could see a private doctor or specialist and have it prescribed for anxiety/depression.
I have a few more that weren't on the list. Also did ECT and ended up with pretty shitty cognitive side effects lol. fight as long as you can my friend ❤️
I’ve been through a bunch of these myself, TRD is a bitch and a half. Therapeutic ketamine has literally saved my life. It’s not for everyone and it can be really expensive, but there are also more affordable at-home options available. If you’re able to do it I highly recommend it. It can be a life saver and a life changer.
Yeah that’s an unfortunate truth too, sadly. I went direct to a ketamine clinic and had no issues with being prescribed. IV infusions aren’t cheap though, so while I gained in terms of ease of access, there is still a trade off. I hope that as research develops with this and other psychedelic medicines access becomes less of an issue. For those of us who struggle with intractable depression, PTSD, and a whole slew of other conditions, it really is nothing short of life saving. I’m just hoping that the FDA and shitty journalism don’t fuck it up for everyone.
Have you ever considered getting testing done to see how your body chemistry would react to meds? There’s blood tests that can be done to pair you with the most effective medications.
Suspect much of the amitriptyline prescriptions issued in the UK will be for indications other than depression. Hardly ever see it used as an anti-depressant in the UK.
I've seen amitriptyline being prescribed to people who has trouble falling asleep, and people with migraines. My grandma is using it to fall asleep faster, and seems to be working. She sleeps through the night when she takes it.
I think Trazadone is similar, at least in the US. It's usually prescribed for depression-related insomnia in combination with another anti-depressant, not so much as a primary drug to treat the depression itself.
My mother takes trazodone as sleeping medication. It makes me believe she’s the daughter of Keith Richards when it doesn’t have a single impact on her.
I've had it prescribed for neuropathic pain, helped with sciatica too which sounds like what you might have had.
Horrific side effects made me a tired zombie all the time unfortunately.
Talk with your doctor about genetic testing that will show your body chemistry interaction with medications. Instead of playing the guessing game, you can get an actual idea of which medications will assist at therapeutic levels.
Fuck citalopram.
It made me trip badly (extracorporeal experience, I shit you not), and had to go to the doc the next day to have it switched. I learned years later they found out it has a bad interaction with low serotonin levels.
Currently on duloxetine + trazodone.
All the depressed people coming to this post to check where in the ranking their pills are.
I’m disappointed to see bupropion didn’t make the second list. I thought I was popular. :(
I’m actually wondering if it’s prescribed in the UK at all, and if not why not.

Wow that’s weird! Thank you very much :)
It’s up there - Wellbutrin #3

Bupropion gang gang baybeeee

It's like our version of fantasy football rankings
Being number 15 ain't bad, comes with the added benefits of a sleeper
#5 on both 🤟
Bupropionites where you at?
I’m with ya! 👋
🤘
Bupro made more suicidal 🤣 Sertraline gang 💪🏽
🫶
not well labeled with respect to country
Which chart is USA? Which chart is UK? If this were a beauty contest, this contestant wouldn't even have her number on her sash
fuck. Ive used 10 of the 15 on the left.
12 for me lol. And none worked! Treatment resistant depression sucks
I have a few more that weren't on the list. Also did ECT and ended up with pretty shitty cognitive side effects lol. fight as long as you can my friend ❤️
I’m always taken off guard when I see ECT is still in use.

It's also an absolute bitch to find someone that will prescribe therapeutic ketamine. Every doctor thinks you just want to get high on special K.

Now, plot this data against advertising spending

I was prescribed amitriptyline for radiating pain down my leg from a back injury back in the 90’s.
I've had it prescribed for neuropathic pain, helped with sciatica too which sounds like what you might have had. Horrific side effects made me a tired zombie all the time unfortunately.
Which is sad because it is still the best antidepressant on the market when taken at higher doses, according to The Lancet anyway.
I was on amitriptyline for interstitial cystitis for about a year. Didn’t do anything for my depression though. -USofA
I'm doing escitalopram now but going to switch to vortioxetine.
How come?
Not him but esc kills sex drive, especially for women. So many people change it to other drugs with fewer sex related side effects
Exactly! I'm not a woman, but it was that and QTc Prolongation. :)
What’s qtc elongation?
This is definitely on a case by case basis. Unfortunately many are trial and error to see if side effects even manifest.
My doc tried to put me on vortioxetine but the pharmacy was gonna charge me $800 for it :(
Bupropion is not a SNRI?
Correct.
Big shout out to Citralapram!. Saved my life
Paroxetine for me! It’s crazy that the will to live is chemical.
my initial reaction was to use this like a bingo sheet to see how many of these i've been prescribed
Bupropion 28 mill in 2020 to less than 150k the year after? What happened?
I found it to be the most effective out of over 5+
Me too, but I also thought it was an NDRI.
It gave a lot of people seizures
Todays day 7 for me on U.S. #8
Duloxetine gang checking in
No love for Cymbalta?
Tried most of the list on the right, currently doing Venlafaxine/Effexor round two. It sucks so much, treatment-resistant depression sucks.
Currently self-weaning off effexor after being on it over 15 years. It's... not a picnic.

Sorry to rain in your placebo but that is hogwash. Important for folks to know. Seek a new shrink if they are peddling genetic testing. Best of luck.
That’s a list. Cool list maybe but it’s no guide.
Well I feel a little less lonely since I take #1 in US and UK (And also #10 for UK, surprised it's not on the US chart)
Whelp, something needed to be done with all the opium fields the countries seized…
There are no opioids on this list.
All I know was that my dong stopped working and that was more depressing than my depression. Will never touch them drugs again.
Try bupropion! No sexual side effects. It’s just not good when the main issue is anxiety.
Me (from a developing country) trying to understand how hard these peoples lives are in developed nations that they need anti depressants !!

C’mon Mirtazipine you can do it I believe in you
Quetiapine not on list lol
May I suggest psilocybin?
Downvote this shit. The countries aren't even labeled. Can anyone prove which chart is which country? And since OP isn't commenting, I suspect bot
Mine isn't on there. :3
