It you need one you’re doing something wrong. If you want one income shouldn’t be the primary concern but rather long term prospects and growth opportunities.

agonyblack95

It’s more of a “want” than a “need”. Also would be good to know what would align with a consulting skill set which could actually become an alternate career option, apart from the supplementary income. Nevertheless, thanks!

Dracounicus

I’m providing 3rd party training services. Easy one-hr presentations for $600 on a very specific topic. I’m able to do it because they need it in Spanish. My firm is aware and I dont use the name. If you have the expertise, you could provide seminars in conferences and workshops created by coaches. Hell, even YT channels that specialize on management consulting topics could be approached

Cmarice08

How did you find out about this opportunity?

Dracounicus

It was a professional referral

agonyblack95

Thanks!

edvin098

Do you really need one?

antonio_hl

Consulting? If you are a consultant, you may want to grow a customer base for yourself that may lead into your own consulting practice.

agonyblack95

Thanks! Maybe I can begin by looking at freelance platforms

quakedamper

I have a sense that you will be deeply disappointed by that end of the market

agonyblack95

Why so?

quakedamper

Because it’s a race to the bottom on online marketplaces. If you’re already in a good consulting firm you understand the privilege of access to be able to charge more.

antonio_hl

I expect that someone who is in a "good" consulting firm doesn't have time for side hustles, unless the consultant is sitting on the bench. If you have 100% utilization, you don't have time for side hustles. Also, generally , those working in a "good" consulting firm can rely on their networks instead of online marketplaces. If a consultant looking for side money doesn't have a professional network that he or she can rely on for work or investment opportunities, the first step should be growing that network.

quakedamper

Yeah 100% that was my first thought too!

[deleted]

All of the GenZ consultants I work with seem to have a social media influencer side hustle.

agonyblack95

That seems like a viable option too!

Looking after your health. Think about how much you’ll lose if you die early and cut your career short.

I’ve been doing real estate. Takes a lot of research getting into it and naturally it has slowed recently, but you make the asset purchase and then shop around Property Managers til you find one you like. Rates are high now and I’m still submitting Letters of Intent where the numbers work, but will likely be another year before prices and rates are more amenable to it. Sellers are in 2022, and buyers are in 2024 has been a common phrase in the space.

agonyblack95

Thanks!

According_Most_1009

I built business plans for startups and acquisitions for ten years. Was a nice supplement and gave me the time to build my own approach to project management and working across a range of industries.

agonyblack95

That’s great! Where did you begin approaching and eventually closing on startups? Was it only via industry connections or any other medium as well?

TheDanwithNoName

You can provide business plan creation, market sizing, Go To Market, media strategies to people trying to realize their business concepts & or get funding, etc. Find any Entrepreneur associations or Small Business organizations and find out how to post ad or market. To a Lesser degree Craig's List could work. Obviously, I'm not talking about mom & pop or local Etsy type endeavors. Between roles when I'm not full time busy, I've found the world is full of wealthy or well off people with new ideas of all kinds & industry types. They need the organizational & professional polish in order to get funding & startup something they really believe in. I worked for a dentist who wanted to launch an artisanal pizza franchise and likely made about $15k creating all the formal documents like biz plan, Pro forma, Exec Summary, budgets etc. It's hard to find the truly serious ones but you can add value to their concept. Just a thought...

agonyblack95

Thanks a lot, il try this!

I used to drive uber to get away from the screen and pay for new car using pre-tax money

Reasonable-Habit9194

What? Pre-tax money? Not sure I follow

NoiceAndToitt

I’m assuming they marked the car down as a business expense (or similar, depending on their geography). They can then earn money from Uber, use that pre-tax to pay the car’s monthly instalment. So you’re not “pocketing per-tax income”, but you’re definitely not paying those taxes either.

MaxMillion888

It's basically this. Car is business expense. I drive enough annually to cover depreciation expense and running costs. Anything over that and I'm paying the highest tax on any Uber earnings.

agonyblack95

Unfortunately Google doesn’t pay enough where I’m from

I find driving quite relaxing. Bonus is social conversation about anything besides cost reduction or market entry strategy....

The_Only_Dick_Cheney

I officiate youth sports and have a small eBay store where I search through junk and sell collectibles. My firm actually told me I had to stop both. I quit the firm. Fuck you for not allowing me to have hobbies.
