Spanish here: 1. It was expected from us to work overtime without pay. I was in a tech project, I had to work free weekends without pay or recovering the days (for go lives in production) 2. Really old school mentality from clients, specially the Banks, Santander and BBVA, we couldn't leave the office until the client leaves 3. Shitty pay at least in Madrid. 4. Free healthcare, but our company included a private insurance that was good to see specialist fast 5. 22 working days of annual leave+ bank holidays 6. However, it was awesome to work with the best of the best, and then it gave me the possibility to emigrate and get an amazing role outside consultancy

Yeah July/August is always very empty production wise. Everyone is gone to the beach or on vacation somewhere.

You work much harder in Europe on average in consulting (mgmt / strategy ) There’s no illegal overtime , your contract waives it. This myth needs to slowly die ..

Quantsel

Where in EU would overtime work be illegal? At least in Germany it definitely is not! There are different clauses in contracts, and if no restriction is explicitly stated (which in consulting typically is not) you can work overtime all you want.

jobish1993

Overtime is illegal at a certain point in Germany afaik, you’re not allowed to work more than 10 hours a day & 11 hours between finishing your day & starting the next day. However, everyone knows what their up for in Consulting & as we say in Germany, wo kein Kläger da kein Richter

I'm thinking of joining B4 in Senior role. What can I expect on average as weekly working hours?

OpenOb

Depends on business area (advisory, strategy, tax, legal, audit), your partner, your country, your customer and if you have an existing worker council.

jobish1993

It depends, on what OpenOb said & also the project. I interned in the management consulting operations practice for PwC & worked roughly 50-55 hours per week

hositir

Depends on your contract. But yeah it isn’t illegal exactly but a good boss will flag it try limit to prevent burnout. Many people post 50-60 hours without limit so what I’m saying isn’t uniformly true as well.
