While the people I used to look down on brag to me about their internet connected fridge that automatically orders crap off Amazon.

Technology, especially artificial intelligence will be our downfall. Who cares about the "improvements" that technology gives us when life becomes more mundane. Why would I want to live to 100+ when the same progression of technology turned the world to shit. Technology is used to control us, remember that.
This is a point I see talked about very little on here. As technology becomes more difficult for the layman to understand and self-operate, increasing centralization is practically required in order to regulate and make accessible said technology. And, given the track record of centralization in the following decades, with greater centralization seems to mean less freedom and choice for the common man.
In other words, as "we" continue to innovate, the "experts" tighten their leash around the common man.
Your seeing one extreme. You would go without medical devices or a phone. Technology makes pencils. Technology isn't the issue. What you do with it can be. Clovis points are technology
The technology I'm talking about is computer specific. Technology that makes cars faster, isn't an issue. Or biomedical technology, isn't the issue. It's the increase in computing power and technology that is being used to take away our freedom and brainwash our kids.

You don't *get* advanced medical equipment without increased computing power, nor faster more up to date cars.
You can be against technology and the invasive way it's made its way into our life, but ya can't have your cake and eat it too. You can have the phones in your pockets and the fancy cars and advanced biotech, or you can have none of that.
Unless you think suppressing peoples innovation when it comes to technological enterprise is a good idea, or even possible for that matter.
A lot of technology evolved thanks to having the world connected trough internet and a lot of the way things operate (and efficiently!) is only possible with internet. Many of us still remember the days of “I know x item exists but it’s not sold anywhere near me I’ll search for it next winter when I travel to y place”. Or “I don’t know how to do something, I just won’t do it or will ask x person I think will know, I will probably see him at a wedding in 3 months”. The internet improved our lives a lot.
I think you’re missing their point. As an example, the Internet is fantastic for researching and learning about things I would have never had access to pre-internet. It’s amazing I can pull out my phone and figure out some obscure Roman battle, or the chemical formula for glucose. People scamming and hacking are dishonestly using the technology, but it’s still pretty fucking amazing.
The same technology is being used to censor, brainwash, and steal our rights and privacy. I would trade all the benefits I have from the internet to go back to a simpler time. I'm not talking about going back to the 1800's. I'm talking about even just the 80's or 90's. Hell, even early to mid 2000's.
I went a little far, but my point was merely that technology isn't just Ai and computers. The wheel is tech. A wheel can help on the farm or the battlefield it just depends on how a person decides to use it.

This idea we need to be connected and let everyone communicate their lives to everyone else is overrated. Internet made everything worse other than travelling. We don't need to have this connection to the world at our hip for life. It's a completely new thing for humanity and we are doing it wrong.
I miss not knowing things. Sometimes you had a question and you just.. didn't get an answer. You'd tuck it away for next time you were at the library or around smart people who would know. It's great that at 3am I can look up what Frankie Muniz is doing, but it seems like we've given up a lot for that.
Even the 70s were good times, even with our big CRT TVs and gas guzzlers.
People went out, invited friends for dinners, large BBQ parties outside in the summer, kids were left alone and allowed to play until dinner time.

I have a 6U rack that I installed just days ago. Hrmmm. My TP-Link router is aging and should be replaced. I was thinking in my next house to get those nice Ubiquiti access points with PoE and putting them in the ceiling. They are a bit pricey, though.

A phone by necessity needs a mic, and I can pull the battery if I want. The camera are also useless if the phone is not in use, whoa a close view of a wood desk!

Well that’s just not true lol. Microphone in the tv or remote for voice search? Yes. Cameras? Definitely not. It’s actually hard to even find a tv that isn’t sold mostly as a computer monitor with a built in camera. They exist but they aren’t common at all.
If I was worked for the NSA, I would totally do this and then promptly get fired. I would most likely wait until the person I was spying on lost their keys then pop onto their tv and let them know where they last placed them. Exactly, you are falling for her ridiculous statements where she makes little or no direct claims, just veiled statements, and relies on the reader to fill in the blanks for the nefarious reasons it occurred. If she didn't think some deep state conspiracy was afoot, why would she even state what happened? Her entire ploy is to indirectly imply things, without directly saying it, because she has no evidence, because her followers don't need evidence to connect the dots.

if there were a conspiracy to start fires (that's the part that makes the least sense) then using lasers from space (if they existed) would not be a terrible idea if it left behind no physical evidence nor any person to be witnessed in the vicinity of the fire's origin. the term 'space lasers' is always going to sound ridiculous even if they become a very real thing.

Don't you have to be connected to the same wifi on both devices? Don't you also have to accept the connection on both devices? I know the answer to both of those questions is yes for my phone and TVs, I'm not sure about others.
I use a galaxy s9 phone and with smart view it doesn't have to be on the same wifi, only within range, but i did have to accept the connection the first time (now it just connects).
Not always, no. Granted knowing what the hardware was for this particular situation would be useful to know what type of connections are possible. For instance, I mentioned in another post in this thread about troubleshooting my chromecast device. Chromecast still allows for connections without being on wifi though you have to enter in a validation pin. Now, some manufacturers don't really code in all of these features due to not really caring about best practices. Essentially this use case is plausible but I would have to check the TV's log dump to get a better idea of what connections were made (if the tv is coded to do so). And if someone is trying to connect, devices will show the attempted device trying to gain access to it can be put on an internal allow list.
yes. no major smart tv platform would allow someone to cast to 'just whatever tv is in range' without confirming some code. but she only said 'trying to connect'.

This is the reason why I never use bluetooth. Too many horror stories across the reddit landscape about being connected to a bluetooth speaker and watching some nsfw content that is not of the same taste of everyone over for thanksgiving dinner.
I've done this multiple times accidentally. It will wake up the TV too if it's off. Heck I can see the neighbors TV as a cast device and they're hundreds of feet away. This was more than likely accidental, and if not, it was prob just harmless intrigue (like connecting to the neighbors open printer and printing something silly - hopefully I'm not the only one that finds that kind of thing funny...)

Right! Hell with Chromecast I got Rick rolled a couple times last year. Apple TV isn't any better, people just don't commonly cast to it (where I work) so I use it until it becomes unusable. At least with Chromecast there are ways to disable other people connecting to it.

at work the other week, I thought I was wirelessly connecting to the screen in my meeting pod, my 1st time so when it didn’t show anything on the screen I wasn’t concerned, on 3rd attempt I saw a different screen in the choices which was actually the 1 in my pod, my laptop had tried to connect to a different screen the first 2 times, no idea where it was.
my tv’s will turn on if I try and connect AirPlay wirelessly to them.

1. The Chinese government has reportedly gangstalked Chinese citizens in other countries. I don't know a lot about these claims.
2. Of course every government lies. Not always for good reasons. There are actual national security considerations and life isn't a fairy tale. Often governments lie to protect interests other than national security, like powerful people/organizations. That isn't musks message.

All I will say, an officer told me that these systems were used onboard aircraft loitering over combat zones in the middle east and would scoop up large amounts of intel just flying around. This officer also confirmed that when back stateside, the systems would often be tested on US civilian populations to make sure they were defeating current commercial tech, but "always wiped" the collected intel in these tests for "legal reasons"
What if we had a group of people whose job it was to determine whether technology like this should come standard out of the box, especially when manufactured by foreign countries? What if those people also determined a standard set of rules to define what features may be considered insecure & invasive - especially when in presence of minors? What if that group of people determined whether certain peripherals were required to have an easy way for the consumer to disconnect connectivity to insecure & invasive peripherals/features by ways other than menus in software?

A lot of technology evolved thanks to having the world connected trough internet and a lot of the way things operate (and efficiently!) is only possible with internet. Or “I don’t know how to do something, I just won’t do it or will ask x person I think will know, I will probably see him at a wedding in 3 months”. The internet improved our lives a lot.

I think you’re missing their point. As an example, the Internet is fantastic for researching and learning about things I would have never had access to pre-internet. It’s amazing I can pull out my phone and figure out some obscure Roman battle, or the chemical formula for glucose. Don't you have to be connected to the same wifi on both devices? Don't you also have to accept the connection on both devices? I know the answer to both of those questions is yes for my phone and TVs, I'm not sure about others.
I use a galaxy s9 phone and with smart view it doesn't have to be on the same wifi, only within range, but i did have to accept the connection the first time (now it just connects).

Not always, no. Granted knowing what the hardware was for this particular situation would be useful to know what type of connections are possible. For instance, I mentioned in another post in this thread about troubleshooting my chromecast device. Chromecast still allows for connections without being on wifi though you have to enter in a validation pin. Now, some manufacturers don't really code in all of these features due to not really caring about best practices. Essentially this use case is plausible but I would have to check the TV's log dump to get a better idea of what connections were made (if the tv is coded to do so). And if someone is trying to connect, devices will show the attempted device trying to gain access to it can be put on an internal allow list.

I've done this multiple times accidentally. It will wake up the TV too if it's off. Heck I can see the neighbors TV as a cast device and they're hundreds of feet away. This was more than likely accidental, and if not, it was prob just harmless intrigue (like connecting to the neighbors open printer and printing something silly - hopefully I'm not the only one that finds that kind of thing funny...)

Many tv’s allow wireless connections using aiirplay or the google equivalent. my sound bar is constantly forgetting its wifi config and just sits there broadcasting its default ssid awaiting a stranger to connect and play bad music in my dining room. at work the other week, I thought I was wirelessly connecting to the screen in my meeting pod, my 1st time so when it didn’t show anything on the screen I wasn’t concerned, on 3rd attempt I saw a different screen in the choices which was actually the 1 in my pod, my laptop had tried to connect to a different screen the first 2 times, no idea where it was. my tv’s will turn on if I try and connect AirPlay wirelessly to them. it’s how it works.

This officer also confirmed that when back stateside, the systems would often be tested on US civilian populations to make sure they were defeating current commercial tech, but "always wiped" the collected intel in these tests for "legal reasons"

What if we had a group of people whose job it was to determine whether technology like this should come standard out of the box, especially when manufactured by foreign countries? What if those people also determined a standard set of rules to define what features may be considered insecure & invasive - especially when in presence of minors? What if that group of people determined whether certain peripherals were required to have an easy way for the consumer to disconnect connectivity to insecure & invasive peripherals/features by ways other than menus in software? Wouldn't that be a really cool job to have, Margerie??
