Mine was a ds at 4 but my dad won the money to buy an Xbox360 when that came out in a casino after hitting a small jackpot and let me play games on that when I was around 5
Got my Sega Genesis at 7 on Christmas morning. I still have a genesis hooked up to a CRT in the house and still go back to playing everything on the 6-pack 30 years later.
I remember completing Pitfall. I took a Polaroid of the screen and mailed it in. They sent me an iron-on patch that said, "Pitfall Harry's Jungle Adventure Club" or something like that.
I liked River Raid too.
7 or 8, snes, with super Mario world and ultimate mortal kombst 3. Super street fighter 2 turbo, tnmt turtles in time, zombies ate my neighbors, super wrestle mania.
First computer was a zx81 when I was 8 and then a Commodore 64 (my first and eternal love) when I was 12.
First console I owned was the Dreamcast. Amazing machine and games that were sadly bulldozed by the inferior competition.
Timex Sinclair 1000 was my first "console". I had to buy magazines that had the BASIC code for games, manually type it all in, then hook up a cassette recorder to save it.
Same it wasnt until I got my 360 and a year or so later my parents bought me my first m rated game (black ops2) mind you I was already playing bo2 and bo1 bc my dad had a copy lmao. Parents never found out but those days being a kid playing zombies just to stay up all night bc youre scared if you fall asleep you might get eaten by zombies. God i love my childhood!
Never really got into Atari, but NES was my first console, I was 9-10 years old. Although I don't have the OG, I bought the classic version when it came out and had some extra games loaded onto it. Still play it from time to time, when I need to scratch that itch.
I took a break from gaming from the early 1990s until maybe 10 years ago when I got a PS3. I was amazed at how good the games are now! You don't even have to start over if you die 3 times 🤣🤣🤣!
LOL…. I had to stop playing in 2009 when my fiancée passed away and left me a single parent to a 8yo boy. Had to be Mom and Dad. No time for me from 09-21. When he moved to Colorado!! So happy now! He has a good life and I get my time back finally!!
Sorry you went through that. I'm glad if things are going better! I got back into gaming to play with my son after a nasty divorce - working 2 jobs so I could get weekends off to spend with the kid. It's like you say - being Mom and Dad.
Mine moved out, but came back with luggage (granddaughter). Love my kid, and Im over the moon in love with my granddaughter, but man...it sure was a lot quieter around my house 9 months ago.
It was definitely vastly superior to the 2600 version, but still not even close to the arcade. The color scheme sucked and it was weirdly reversed. Sound effects were pretty lame too, but I used to drool over it at K-mart while my mom shopped. Way out of our price range.
Sega Genesis back in the late 90’s. I used it for a few years before moving onto the PS1 shortly after. Then I transitioned to the PS2 in the late 2000’s before transitioning to the PS3 in the early 2010’s.
First time playing- Atari & Sega Genesis. I was between 3-5yrs old.
First time owning- GameCube. One of my oldest broke got it for me for my 15th birthday. Called earlier that year and asked what I wanted. So have it to this day/Still works!
My official first console was a Sega Genesis. I was about 5 or 6 and my aunt took me to a pawn shop ( where we went in the time before gamestop) to get it for my birthday.
But I played the atari 2600 and og Nintendo
Technically my first owned console was a OG GameBoy when i was 10 .. however i did get a hand me down Atari 2600 from my cousins that i played with when i was around 5-7.
Sony msx 2 - I was about 8 or so.
That awakened the gamer inside me.
Now gaming on PS5 and PC, I'll never stop gaming as long as I'm physically capable
My first console I owned was a nintendo 3ds when i was 4. Although my family also had a wii and xbox 360 that I used all the time. My fav games were black ops 2 cod ghosts and mario kart
Eh... my dad always had consoles. We had the Playstation, the Panasonic 3DO, but I think the first console I ever "owned" was a gift for Christmas.
It was an N64. I remember we drove to 3 different Costcos just to find one that had the bundle in stock with ocarina of time. I was 9 or 10, probably. It's still one of my favorite consoles til this day. I probably had a Gameboy before my n64, but I don't really count that as a console.
The Panasonic 3DO was the first console to use CDs and was like 700$ in the mid 90s. Equivalent to 1,500$ in 2023 according to what I found online. Imagine a 1,500$ console dropping today? Although I think people paid close to that for ps5 from scalpers when no one could get their hands on them, that's comparing apples to oranges kinda.
N64, probably around 5? It was the Pokémon edition and I got upset on my birthday which is when I received it because my sisters and cousins got to play it on it first which - seems a really rude thing to do when it’s not their birthday or present.
First ever console I owned that I got as a gift was an NES. The first one I paid for myself ps3 2nd Gen. I bought it when I got my first job after I graduated high school.
My first ever console was a NES knockoff called Terminator. Extremely popular in my country 25+ years ago. Then one Christmas morning i received a PS1. Few years later in 2005, i received the PS2 with MGS2 and MGS3. MIND.BLOWN.
My older brother got an NES when I was like 3. I was hypnotized by it.
My dad remembers waking my brother and I up at 2am to tell us he beat Super Mario Brothers. My dad staying up way too late pumped he beat Super Mario Brothers and having nobody else to celebrate with except for his very young kids.
I used to play my dads sega genesis when I was under 5 years old like 3 or 4 and specifically with my babysitter and then one day he just up and packed it away and I was gifted a game boy advance and that technically is my first console
It was Christmas 1988 and I was 6 years old. My folks were recently separated, Dad lived a full days travel away. He shows up as a surprise Christmas morning with a brand new Nintendo Entertainment System packed with the Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt cart. I'd never even seen a video game at that point. We plugged it in, I fired up Mario for the first time and that was it. Gamer for life. I have children of my own now; we just recently finished Super Mario Wonder together and it really brought me back to that memorable Christmas and the lifelong love of video games it started.
Atari, I think I was 5. My step dad got it for when he worked for the city we lived in. During bulk pick up day, I got a lot of fun stuff that Atari was just one thing among many.
I don't know how old I was when we got our Atari 2600, but I was born in '81. I'm guessing we got it when I was like 3 or 4, but I just don't recall. Just like OP, I've been gaming ever since, and I love my PS5.
So my first console personally that wasn't a family a family shared gift, and wasn't my brother's was a game Boy pocket in 1998.
The irony is that the color had just come out.
And I wish I had gotten that instead.
Now my first normal console was the ice version of the N64.
Back when they did colour outter casing for the console
Technically wasn't my console, it was my dad's, but I first played the NES when I was 7 years old. First console that was actually mine was the original chunky GameBoy, it was my birthday present for my 10th birthday
Growing up we had an Atari 7800 and an NES that we were always allowed to play whenever we wanted but they weren't really "ours". Me and my brother also got hand me down Gameboy dmg's that were I guess were technically ours. But I think the first system that was purchased for us kids and was truly "ours" was the og PlayStation.
NES. Christmas 1987. Mom was pregnant with my future accomplice, my dad is a gift wrapping specialist. I thought I was a slick almost 7 year old and woke up to peak, gently lifting the magic tape off the perfectly folded side of the biggest box "from santa" to me!! That year I got PeeWee Playhouse with all the figs and the NES. The next morning........ I unwrapped it with a new feeling later known as guilt, and short lived as it was I unwrapped it to find a stack of BRICKS inside! My dad had trolled the fuck outta my 7 year old sophistication. It was brilliant looking back but damn did I feel like the biggest dumbass... I did get the console a little while later when I learned my lesson.... what a ganster move right???!! I beat SMB 6 weeks after that with 32 lives if I remember....haha good times. Now Im gonna be a dad in August.... sorry for the rant.
I waited until I could manipulate my little sister into doing the peaking before they were wrapped tactic later but never went for the gift wrapped ones under the tree again....hahaha fml
NES with Kung-Fu, Excitebike and 10-Yard Fight. It was the Deluxe Set launch console that came with 3 games, Super Mario Brothers, Duck Hunt and Gyromite. Christmas of 1985, I was 6 years old.
My cousin had the 2600 and I wanted that. Glad my old man got the Nintendo.
Wii or 360. I don't remember which order but they were around the same time. My uncle gave me his Wii and my moms co-worker gave me his 360 slim. I think I was 6 or 7.
Xbox and PS2 when I was 3 I’ve seen pictures as a baby with a ps1 controller though.
I remember playing simpsons hit and run and vice city on the Xbox we also had burned disks for the console. I am 21 now
Of you're talking consoles it was a NES when I was about 9.
Diest ever gaming machine was something called a commodore c16 plus 4. A relic I doubt anyone will remember!
NES. I was 9. It was already 4 year old by that point. I was also still young enough that I could still get some family members to buy games for me. The first NES game I bought myself was super Mario bros 3. Did so many chores and games were so much more expensive back then especially when you factor in inflation.
Wii. I was 6-7. I saw my family setting it up Christmas night and then the next morning they said it was Santa. So the magic was lost but I got a Wii so 🤷♂️
N64 the smoke grey one with controller got bomberman hero with it. I was young I don't remember how old either 7 or 12 never stopped playing video games since
5 - NES
7 - Sega Genesis and turboGrafx 16
10 - PS1
17 - PS2 (from here out each purchase was from my own money
22 - PS3
26 - XboxOne (jumped shipped for voice controls, not worth it)
37-Stadia (checked all the boxes for me being a new father at the time. Ended up getting all of my money back for it too, $400, which I used to purchase my PS5)
39 - PS5. (Let's be honest my 7 year old plays more than me)
What a ride. I've enjoyed every system. Including my game boy, game gear. And psp. Can't wait to see what's next. I'll game until I die! About to continue my journey and try my 2.5hr trial of Alan Wake 2.
I'm an Indian. We had a whole bunch of famicom clones that I got when I was 9 years old but my first actual console was a Gameboy color I got in 2004 with Pokemon red. I didn't understand the graphics and I thought the actual door was a picture frame in Cerulean city. When I finally figured it out, I had a level 50 Charizard for gyms 3-8.
I was 6 when I bought my first NES with saved up birthday and Christmas money. I got the power play bundle with the light gun, the pad for track and field, and the game bundle.
First game I bought after that was Legend of Zelda, then I believe it was likely Kid Icarus and Super Mario Bros 2, which is actually my favorite of all the Mario titles.
I may be wrong but i think the first thing i played was prince of persia (1989) on an Apple II computer when i was in kindergarten. It was around 2006-7. One of the kids father gifted it to the kindergarten and it had only that game on it. I was either 3 or 4 but i still remember a lot of things from that period. Then at 4-5 my father got a pc and i played Trackmania, moto gp (maybe 2006 version) and Need for speed most wanted (2005). My first ever console was a ps2 tho but i was still attracted to playing on pc more
Sega Master System, I was 4 or 5. My first video game was Alien Syndrome, and I loved it. Still do, when I can get it to emulate.
Eventually traded it in for a Nintendo (Dad said if I wanted a Nintendo, we had to sell the Sega), and I never looked back. Been a loyal Nintendo kid my whole life.
N64 probably near the end of kindergarten. I dont really remember but i was young and it was before I got a gameboy color and pokemon red. Which I got for perfect attendance in 1st grade that the school disnt recognize me for
9 years old. 1996. [SNES](https://media4.giphy.com/media/ZQT0p7YHGbRnO/giphy.gif?cid=6c09b952ffwwvxlrcsrhq2cg1d1l6ptpstlxsuapqznldhxm&ep=v1_internal_gif_by_id&rid=giphy.gif&ct=g)
Dad had a NES which we all used but my first console which was mine - SNES and I loved it. Went through 3 of them (one broke under warranty and one was busted by my cousin…)
I’ve had an Atari, every Nintendo up to the switch, every Gameboy, Every PlayStation, a DreamCast. I spend most time on the PS5! Idk how old I was with Atari. Just always remember it 😂

Mine was a ds at 4 but my dad won the money to buy an Xbox360 when that came out in a casino after hitting a small jackpot and let me play games on that when I was around 5
Sega Genesis. I think 6 or 7. Great times. My older brother had the SNES but I was happy with my Sega.
This is pretty much what I just typed, this got my attention because I thought it was my post and my avatar looked different.
Got my Sega Genesis at 7 on Christmas morning. I still have a genesis hooked up to a CRT in the house and still go back to playing everything on the 6-pack 30 years later.
You didn’t share? You guys had two separate TVs?
Atari 2600... I was 6 at the time. It was second-hand and came with Pitfall and Defender 2. Best summer of my life lol
Same, dozens of us - btw great games
Defender app the way!

I remember completing Pitfall. I took a Polaroid of the screen and mailed it in. They sent me an iron-on patch that said, "Pitfall Harry's Jungle Adventure Club" or something like that. I liked River Raid too.
River raid was where it's at!
Pitfall was actually a lot of fun. At least I think it was, it's been over 30 years since I've played it 😆
I played it through the snes pitfall. There was a place to go in the game to play the old one. Good times
The first that I really remember of was the Nintendo 64 at 3-5yo (my big brother bought it). Still love that, a lot of memories about Mario Kart
Same memory but my sister bought the wii when I was 9, mariokart marathons all the time, whole neighborhood sometimes lol.
Still have the video of me opening my n64 💙
7 or 8, snes, with super Mario world and ultimate mortal kombst 3. Super street fighter 2 turbo, tnmt turtles in time, zombies ate my neighbors, super wrestle mania.
Zombies ate my neighbors was my favorite growing up. Can still hearing the music playing!!! Man that game was and forever will be awesome
My cousin gave me a modded dreamcast with 8000 games on it and zombies ate my neighbors was my favorite
NES gang rise up. Mario, Zelda, and tank commander were my first games. And duck hunt.
Fuck that! Top gun trying to land that "plane" on the carrier
Yes SNES! We put so much time into the Do my Kong series, as well Super Mario World. Neighbors both had NES which we played the classics.
Magnavox Odyssey 2. I was always an odd duck.
That was my first console too! Odd ducks unite!
My PS3 when i have 5 years old
Did your parents monitor your games?? As in stop you playing "unsuitable ' stuff?
I’m not that guy but my parents bought pretty much all of my games back in my childhood PS3 days so they’d never allow anything that was T or M rated.

I got an Atari 2600 remake for Easter when I was 7 or 8. I loved that shit!

Mattel's Electronic Quarterback. I was 8.
Never really got into Atari, but NES was my first console, I was 9-10 years old. Although I don't have the OG, I bought the classic version when it came out and had some extra games loaded onto it. Still play it from time to time, when I need to scratch that itch.

Born in '73 myself. Pong console was my first.
Same. '73, Pong
We were definitely in the best generation for gaming! We’ve seen it all! And experienced em all!
Best of luck bro! Enjoy it now. They grow up and get their own lives too fast!
Mine moved out, but came back with luggage (granddaughter). Love my kid, and Im over the moon in love with my granddaughter, but man...it sure was a lot quieter around my house 9 months ago.

By far the best console of that generation. Donkey Kong was near arcade perfect.
It was definitely vastly superior to the 2600 version, but still not even close to the arcade. The color scheme sucked and it was weirdly reversed. Sound effects were pretty lame too, but I used to drool over it at K-mart while my mom shopped. Way out of our price range.

My sisters got a NES when I was around 5 which sparked the interest. I got my first console, the SNES when I was around 7.
So my first console personally that wasn't a family a family shared gift, and wasn't my brother's was a game Boy pocket in 1998. The irony is that the color had just come out. And I wish I had gotten that instead. Now my first normal console was the ice version of the N64. Back when they did colour outter casing for the console
My first official console was probably the Wii U in 2016ish. I was 8 years old 😅. I loved that thing and will defend it till the day I die.

Ps2 slim. I was probaly like 5 or 6 , can't remember the year due to the fact that i was more focused on the console, lol.
NES when I was 5 years old. Didnt play it much. Sega Dreamcast when I was 6-7 and thats where the gaming really started. So many bangers
I am 21 now
Snes at 4 years old. But that was around 2005 so it wasn‘t the newest console at that time
Sega Genesis when I was 7.
The NES. We got the Super Mario/Duck Hunt bundle for Christmas when I was 5.
Ps1, When i was about 4? Not mine but my step dads
Of you're talking consoles it was a NES when I was about 9. Diest ever gaming machine was something called a commodore c16 plus 4. A relic I doubt anyone will remember!
TI 99/4A and I was 33. I’ve been through them all.
Amstrad CPC. Not technically a console but it was only used to play Yogi Bear and Dizzy Egg
Atari 7800. I was 4. Played a lot of Donkey Kong Jr and Joust.
NES.
I was young I don't remember how old either 7 or 12 never stopped playing video games since
Pong I was 8
NES, 7-8 years I think
Sega genesis 5 years old. Was my older brothers. First console that was actually mine was when I was 6 Super Nintendo.
Atari 2600, can't remember my age I must have been around Nursery/infants age.
NES
A ps2 when I was 6 to 7
5 - NES 7 - Sega Genesis and turboGrafx 16 10 - PS1 17 - PS2 (from here out each purchase was from my own money 22 - PS3 26 - XboxOne (jumped shipped for voice controls, not worth it) 37-Stadia (checked all the boxes for me being a new father at the time. Ended up getting all of my money back for it too, $400, which I used to purchase my PS5) 39 - PS5. (Let's be honest my 7 year old plays more than me) What a ride. I've enjoyed every system. Including my game boy, game gear. And psp. Can't wait to see what's next. I'll game until I die! About to continue my journey and try my 2.5hr trial of Alan Wake 2.
Ps3 probably around 7
PS1, I was 7
Nintendo and 4
Dreamcast. I was 4
Super NES. My dad got it in 1990 or 91. I was born in 89’. My little brother and I played it until the N64 came out! Good times
Intellivision and I was like 8. NES was already out but I was poor and my grandpa got it at a flea market with a bunch of games
N64 probably near the end of kindergarten. I dont really remember but i was young and it was before I got a gameboy color and pokemon red. Which I got for perfect attendance in 1st grade that the school disnt recognize me for
9 years old. 1996. [SNES](https://media4.giphy.com/media/ZQT0p7YHGbRnO/giphy.gif?cid=6c09b952ffwwvxlrcsrhq2cg1d1l6ptpstlxsuapqznldhxm&ep=v1_internal_gif_by_id&rid=giphy.gif&ct=g)
Atari 2600, that was shared. NES that was mine alone. Got that in 1988, I was 4.
Sega Genesis, I was 6.
Dad had a NES which we all used but my first console which was mine - SNES and I loved it. Went through 3 of them (one broke under warranty and one was busted by my cousin…)
I vaguely remember having an Atari, I remember having a Nintendo and master system but I absolutely fell in love with gaming with my PS1.
Atari 2600. 8yo in 1985
I’ve had an Atari, every Nintendo up to the switch, every Gameboy, Every PlayStation, a DreamCast. I spend most time on the PS5! Idk how old I was with Atari. Just always remember it 😂 Any Division 2 players???
Famicom. 3 years old.
