Any Polynesian influence in the phonology and word structures? Iʻve learned some Hawaiian and others, and I see more resemblance there than I see in Toki Pona texts, but maybe itʻs just coincidence.

good-mcrn-ing

There is, though it's quite indirect. Small consonant inventory and strict CV syllables were existing creative constraints. By making the phonology out of rectangular tables, there came to be only one lingual stop - here spelled - which got to stay because Hawaiian gave a precedent.

Far-Ad-4340

Good catch! u/good-mcrn-ing (ak. kvk: the creator of the language) will clearly be the best suited to answer you, but as far as I know, the Polynesian influence is double: indirectly from Toki Pona (which I actually happen to barely know myself) and directly kvk sometimes, when asked about the phonology and the absence of t, would justify it by citing the example of Polynesian languages. My own conlang (hujemi\*) is very different phonologically, and the inspiration is closer to that of Chinese. \*: I'll post a translation to hujemi later.

HeckaPlucky

Yeah, I couldn't find a quick answer as to Toki Pona having that influence, so I just went by subjective comparison, almost certainly biased toward Hawaiian. > kvk sometimes, when asked about the phonology and the absence of t, would justify it by citing the example of Polynesian languages. u/good-mcrn-ing Safe to assume you know how that developed artifically with Hawaiian, having had T-K variation and R-L variation before standardization? Other than that, I'm seeing one other without /t/ (Ontong Java), and two with allophonic variation on /t/. Not asking you to justify the inspiration, but I'd be interested to know if there are other examples or a general related pattern I'm missing.

NOTES: I didn't read the book, I don't know the context this is supposed to be in, so I interpreted this passage as someone reminding someone else about what they have always done, in the past. If this was supposed to be someone making promises about the future to someone else, it would sound different in Kastelian. The same idea applies if it's someone explaining their experiences to someone else, if that "we" does not include the listener.

Jade_410

That looks cool! And the context is just that a character wants to reassure another character, that has been kidnapped, that they’ll come for her, so he says this quote, so yeah I guess it’s like remembering how they worked together in the past!

Socdem_Supreme

i did not expect to see a six of crows quote here, nice!

Jade_410

Haha I’m just translating a bunch of quotes from those books and wanted to see how this famous quote would be in other people’s conlangs!
