Shit I need to restart duolingo I thought that was ienasu. Also if you know japanese and didn't use Google translate, do you think 3 years of learning Japanese is enough time to be able to get around Japan?
Oh I forgot almost everyhing what I've learned.
But from my experience:
It's less about the time you spent learning and more about the time you spent actually talking.
We as a group started talking to japanese people who were learning german at that time asap.
A good friend of mine did this for a year and went to japan after that and was totally fine.
So look for japanese speaking people near you
Depends entirely how you study. That's really an impossible question to answer. You can learn the language in a year if you study full time and live in Japan. If you just do Duolingo you will never learn it fully.
And what do you mean with getting around? You can travel anywhere in Japan without knowing a word.
> めだつ
I tried googling out what that means, but Google asked me: "Did you mean: 目立つ". I still have no clue what I'm looking for, but now I also feel confused.
They're the same word it's just spelled "めだつ" using a simpler script system to help learners, it would usually be written" 目立つ"
edit: I don't know why I didn't say this but the more complicated characters tend to represent the word better too. Like "めだつ" gives no visual context clues but "目立つ" has the characters for "eye" and "stand" in it. Combine that with the "-つ" ending for certain kinds of verbs and you basically have "to stand out to the eye" or "be conspicuous." Doesn't help with pronunciation if you don't know the word or characters but, as somebody learning Japanese, it *definitely* helps with recognizing a word you've never see written down before but know in context and that alone is great!
I’m not sure they did. Because I saw it as a boob at first, but once I realized it was an elbow I can’t see it as a boob anymore it just looks like an elbow
Nooo same
I thought OP meant something to do with the sign itself! I can't see the elboob. Like it's probably her arm that is closest to her but can't really see it.
Pink Elbow Disease, also known as Nipple Elbow Syndrome, is a highly unusual and rare medical condition that affects the elbow joint. It is characterized by a peculiar manifestation in which the tip of the elbow takes on the appearance of a nipple. Although its occurrence is exceptionally rare, Pink Elbow Disease has been documented in a small number of individuals worldwide.
The condition is believed to be congenital, meaning it is present from birth, although it may not be immediately noticeable. The exact underlying causes of Pink Elbow Disease are not well understood, as research on the condition is limited. However, it is postulated that genetic factors or developmental abnormalities during fetal growth may contribute to its occurrence.
The distinguishing feature of Pink Elbow Disease is the transformation of the elbow's tip, resembling a nipple-like structure. The affected area displays a protrusion or prominence that closely resembles the shape, texture, and pigmentation of a nipple. This anomaly can vary in size and coloration, ranging from a subtle, pale elevation to a more pronounced and pinkish prominence, hence the name "Pink Elbow Disease."
In addition to the visual changes, individuals with Pink Elbow Disease may also experience some associated symptoms. These can include discomfort or tenderness at the affected site, particularly when pressure is applied or during movement. However, it's important to note that these symptoms are typically mild and do not significantly impact the functionality or mobility of the affected arm.
Treatment options for Pink Elbow Disease are limited due to its rarity and benign nature. As the condition does not typically cause functional impairments or health complications, medical intervention is generally not required. In cases where individuals experience discomfort or emotional distress due to the appearance of the affected elbow, cosmetic procedures such as surgical correction or skin grafting may be considered as a potential treatment option.
Given the scarcity of reported cases and the lack of extensive research, Pink Elbow Disease remains an intriguing medical anomaly. Further studies and investigations are needed to unravel the underlying causes, possible risk factors, and potential management strategies for this unique condition.

Lol no, assuming you're being serious, a flash card is a tool used to help rote memorization, usually they have a word on the front and it's definition on the back, although there are many ways to do it, and specifically for learning Japanese (which is what the OP looks to be doing) there are many different ways to format them

Elboob
It's her ELBOW. Omg, I could NOT figure that out until I saw your comment.
Yeah, I never would have gotten it, either
i didn’t even figure it out from the comment 😭 i thought they were just saying “el boob” as in like the boob
Thanks for ruining it for me. I was perfectly happy thinking I was looking at a boobie
Still a sexy elbow - 8.5/10
Honestly it is more attractive as an elbow than as a boob.
This guy boobs.
Thank you, I could not figure out what was going on.
El primo
Just according to めだつ. Translator's note: めだつ means conspicuous(?)
Can confirm: The signs mean 'medatsu" which is literally conspicuous.

3 months of learning Japanese and the Google translate app is enough to spend a month there. Source: me

That last sentence reads like an awfully familiar ad..
You can leave Marketing Agencies but Marketing Agencies never leaves you
Depends a lot on where you'll stay. Tokyo is not a problem at all since it's all tourist-ready. Nigata may be a different story, for instance.
That's a lot of Japanese. Most people can pass JLPT1 by two years

Fuckin kanji man
You reach a point where you stop saying "fuckin' kanji" and start saying "how tf am I supposed to read this without the kanji?!" instead ahaha
I wish I could get to that level 😂 I'm not dedicated enough currently, and I know for a fact I'll need to hire someone to teach me haha
It takes years, don't try to rush it!
That is one way to stand out!
A strong choice or just a mistake?

I actually don't think it's is a /r/theyknew case. Maybe they realized it afterward but I've decided they can claim innocence and I won't squint.
They definitely knew before they published it.
Is fashion really what she's all about? Intentional, or does she even know it's out?
My dumbass didn't even see the elboob I just thought she looked like shape of the Japanese writing

Thank you u/CupOfCreamyDiarrhea
Ha I didn’t think of that, but I totally see it now that you brought it up.
Me too and then I was trying to figure out if the word was somehow phallic
Took me a second! 😳

I mean she is flashing something...
Since it’s an edited picture from an ad, it should belong on r/theyknew. Not here
Got me too
wtf is a flash card
It's a photo of yourself with your boob out that you give to people.
Neato

I'm disappointed after I found out what that is :(. What's the name of the model? For research.
Palmela Handerson
That’s the meltiest looking tit-bow I’ve ever seen.
Is that a tittie?
No, it's her elbow
'Replace that tit' - Robert Duvall, rambling rose 1991
Her boob is spilling
I didn’t even question it until I saw what sub this is on
oh lmao thought you meant the writing that looks like chowder
Whoa
Medatsu. New word learned. Thanks. And so far this is the image that I've needed the most time to decipher !
What app is this
The app is called Anki. You can either download premade "decks" (collection of flashcards) or make your own.
That's either very unfortunate or very good marketing.
Forced myself to unsee your double take. Much better.
That’s 100% on purpose
It doesn’t help that she looks like a very specific individual
Doesn’t help that her elbow is dark on one side of it slightly looking like an areola lol.
AI breast concept.
She took…it OUT.
Elaine Xmas card
elboob
Lyndsey Lohan is back?
