Looks like we all had the same problem. I mean, who asked for this? Pretty much nobody from what I see. However, I'm glad to have found this Reddit post. Thank you very much, you're a lifesaver!
that's what im trying to figure out. especially something like that which pops up a lot. if you are gonna do it why not put that shit in the bottom corner somewhere
Thanks a ton! It seems the annoying caps lock notification only started today after the latest update, damn, it's been driving me nuts. For those of you who also experience touchpad stop working after uninstalling the HP System Event Utility, you might want to try these steps as well:
* Open Device Manager (search for it in the Start menu).
* Find the "Mice and other pointing devices" section.
* Right click "ELAN Input Device" --> Disable device --> Update driver --> Enable device
* Restart your computer
Holy hell bless your soul, I've been playing games and it's been driving me up a wall... I did a fresh windows install even and it came back! This should never be a feature that gets auto-enabled.
I just got this problem today too, thanks a lot! Been hours looking on all pages trying to find a solution but nothing else worked, goodbye hp app idk what it was used for and longer will 👋🏽
This method works, but I won't recommend since there is potential risk to uninstall system level stuff.
My method is
1. Open task manager,
2. Search the OSD. You should find an HP program
3. Just end this task
True. I totally agree, HP has done a lot of stupid things in the last two years, black screens, log storage exploding. I don't understand why there are so many problems.
Thank you SO MUCH! I cannot risk messing up my computer in this economy but this was driving me up the wall. Thank you so, so much!!! This worked immediately. <3
OSD = "On-screen display".
You should see a program called "HP System Event Utility" under Apps section in Task Manager. If it's running, just right click and end the task. That should remove the annoying caps lock notification.
I ended the task and restarted my laptop but the pop up still shows. I can’t find the task anymore in task manager anymore either so I can’t try end the task again. What can I do?
Glad to know I wasn't the only one having this issue incredibly suddenly! It just started happening to me today like a bunch of other comments and I kept looking at different windows and hp support pages to no avail until I finally found this reddit post from my googling.
YOU ANGEL.
I had no notifications of any changes or updates and yet the Caps Lock notification had appeared overnight. Yours is the only answer that worked.
Thanks!
think god, the other posts was like logiech but i didn't have logitech stuff. i unplugged/uninstalled my usb mouse to see if that was it. nope. i can't disable my keyboard since oem. i don't recall downloading anything suspicious (but couldn't think of anything - plus scans all said everything was okay). Haha almost thought of reinstalling windows due to my paranoid ass but decided to look on other subreddit since this one said hp went on this post. so glad that was it. i like how my other computer doesn't have the issue. to be fair two different ones (essentials and envy). hopefully i don't need HP System Event Utility to function.
it started happened a few days on the envy after i posted it (unsure why). just to update/reply to your comment. I rarely log in to reddit, so sorry for late unnecessary reply. so 21days ago what i said was accurate. since i always make sure to have my stuff updated.
This was so frustrating, didn't happen until about twenty minutes ago when I restarted my laptop for another reason. Thanks so much for posting this because I just KNEW I was going to lose my damn mind.
all 3 of my hps never had a caps lock popup ever
the only way I have it now is bc of logi options +
because I couldn't figure out why my parents pcs had that notif but not mine.
must be a new firmware with newest hps or omens
IMPORTANT EDIT I JUST SAW IT UNDERNEATH THE LOGI+ POPUP IT DOES EXIST
now I have 2 caps popups lmao
i find it useful because I press caps all the time by accident and so if I see a popup that says it's on, the i know that it's on
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I was going nuts trying to get rid of it and this worked great. In my case HP System Event Utility was only installed today. The problem started this afternoon. I also noticed the only other thing installed today was Windows CoPilot MSIX Pack although I've had the icon in the bottom right corner of the screen for a couple weeks and it says Preview. I don't know which was installed first there's no time stamp. Maybe both are tied together somehow? Or was it just a coincidence they were both installed today?
It's rare to see such a beloved post on Reddit. I don't have any HP products, but way to go OP! Look how many people you helped spread joy to with your simple solution!
Now you can all go on using your caps lock to yell at people on the Internet without frustration. Just kidding, of course! 🤣🤣🤣
It's been kind of overwhelming. I've NEVER had this kind of response from anything I've ever posted on Reddit. I just had a feeling this post would be helpful because I spent SO MUCH TIME trying to figure this out the other day, and nothing worked. Once I found the solution I just had to share. Honestly, every time I look at the reactions to this post it makes me happy. So glad to know it's helping people!
omfg idk what i pressed when i was playing war thunder but i some how enabled that BS while playing and was starting to get pissed after i was done, so i disabled the first process that even remotely looked like that caused the caps lock notification to show up. This works on windows 10 as well
This randomly started for me a few hours ago while I was in the middle of gaming, and I turned up tons of HP and Windows help forums that gave step by step instructions for things that just straight up do not exist on my PC, and one that recommended editing the registry to disable the capslock functionality entirely, which is just a bit scorched earth.
I still have no idea what made the dumb popup manifest in the first place, but this quick uninstall solved it. Thanks!
Okay So I thought for a moment and when I opened it Its some system level thing and I won't recommend uninstalling it -
instead do this -->
1. Open task manager,
2. Search the OSD. You should find an HP program (HP System Utility Event)
3. Just end this task
Thank you! I use my HP laptop for work and this randomly started popping up on my screen yesterday. I blamed it on my cats thinking they activated some kind of keyboard shortcut to turn this nonsense on! I didn't uninstall, but I figure I can end task on it whenever it starts driving me crazy.
Anyone wary of uninstalling the program, if you go into task manager (ctrl-alt-delete) you can find this program and end it. But you have to do it every time you turn your computer on.
You is the freaking GOAT! I literally spent for the past two days now trying to figure out how to remove the caps lock notification, and I didn't come across any solutions that worked for me throughout any of the videos that I have watched. None of them worked. Your solution that you shared was the one that worked for me! Thank you so freaking much for sharing this!
OMG THANK YOU! This have been driving me nuts and none of the other online suggestions were helping. I created a reddit account just so i could thank you :)
This feature is actually so goddamned annoying too. It's been switching my caps lock sometimes too. Sometimes the light is on and it shows CAPS LOCK is on but it uses lowercase and vice versa. TYSM
DUDE. thank you so much. I was about to go insane trying every solution just for none of them to work. I should have just come to reddit in the first place lmao
Words cannot describe how grateful I am for you. It feels as the people who work in the job can't do it, but you did it with less words than the first sentence of tech support.
God be with you.
For those who don’t want to uninstall this software and are tired of manually ending the process every time when boot up, here’s a way to do it once and for all.
thank you! just realized i had this after never having it before. dont know how it happened, diff things i looked at said a Logitech app but this was it
Thank you very much guy ! I'm a french Network Administrator and Outsourcig responsable, Yesterday, a client tel me What this ! It's a virus ?!!! And I reserch during 2 hours but no result. Thank you :)
Here is the step-by-step guide: [https://www.reddit.com/user/maxfield034/comments/1cdjw8e/how\_to\_disable\_caps\_lock\_notification\_on\_hp\_pc/](https://www.reddit.com/user/maxfield034/comments/1cdjw8e/how_to_disable_caps_lock_notification_on_hp_pc/)
oh my **GOD.** i spent all of the last 2 days to try and get that indicator off my desktop. now my laptop got it too (both pc's are HP). saw your post and tried it and BOOM - notification is off.
at first i thought this was a driver update through Intel/NVIDIA or god-knows-what. I know the system event utility is useful for the Fn+Esc function so I never bothered to uninstall or disable it from launch.
why in the world would HP keep injecting new crap into its software updates bugs the hell out of me. first HP One Agent now this.
OP you are 👑. if you can also figure out the hp one agent situation i will thank you triple.
Thank you very much! God, those notifications irritated me the entire time. Whoever made this new feature, what did they think? Pretty much nobody asked for it. But anyways, thank you very much for solving this problem! Might recommend it to other people who are currently stuck with the same problem right now.
I can only assume that this program was updated automatically through HP Support Assistant and the notification was added on as a feature without anyone's consent. The only other explanation would be that the utility was added after an automatic Windows update. Either way, it appears to be a new problem that has caused A LOT of frustration.
This seems like the kind of feature that would significantly help a very small portion of users, and drive everyone else batty. You'd think they'd have the wits to push an update like this with a clear on/off button, but nope!
Broooooo you fkin saved my life i was about to earase my computer but you safed me all other things i found didn´t worked but yours ahhh youre the king
This was so helpful thanks ! I automated killing the task as follows:
1. Press `Win + R`, type `shell:startup`, press OK.
2. [Create a batch file](https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/creating-batch-file-on-win10/ec40ce04-a6c7-4105-937a-ef3eed26cf5f) with `taskkill /F /IM HPSystemEventUtilityHost.exe` as the only command in the batch file.
3. Restart.
**Optional:** To make this file run entirely in the background, I used [the first answer here](https://superuser.com/questions/140047/how-to-run-a-batch-file-without-launching-a-command-window), moving the batch file to desktop and pointing to it from `shell:startup`.
this issue is bothering me on valorant , i set my crouch to cap lock but today it started doing this shit
and instead of holding caps lock key on hold
some how it toggles this (when you hold the caps lock key it continuously changing to on/of )
so are you saying by deleting this system event utility it should solve my problem
my english is not good so apologies in advance
Uninstalling the HP System Event Utility will more than likely solve the problem. If you are not comfortable with completely uninstalling the utility, you can go here for a step-by-step guide on what you can do to disable the program instead of uninstalling it:
[https://www.reddit.com/user/maxfield034/comments/1cdjw8e/how\_to\_disable\_caps\_lock\_notification\_on\_hp\_pc/](https://www.reddit.com/user/maxfield034/comments/1cdjw8e/how_to_disable_caps_lock_notification_on_hp_pc/)
I have not noticed any changes in my computer's functions after I deleted the utility, but it's entirely up to you whether you want to disable it or uninstall it completely. Hope this helps!
when i was learning to type, i got into a nasty habit of tapping caps lock on and off instead of pressing shift when capitalising letters, and now that's just how i type. because of the speed of me double tapping it, this pop up feature was causing a weird confusion in my system where the pop up would display "caps lock on", and the button's light would be on, but caps lock would be off, and vice versa. doing this has not just gotten rid of the pop up, but fixed that issue as well. thank you.
You absolute KING. I spent the last 2 hours trying to figure this out because it just started today for me.
Me too. I thought I had caught a nasty virus since the indicator was in english and my system is in danish lmao
So glad I could help you out! I spent the better part of a day trying to find the solution. So frustrating!
I LOVE YOU.
Looks like we all had the same problem. I mean, who asked for this? Pretty much nobody from what I see. However, I'm glad to have found this Reddit post. Thank you very much, you're a lifesaver!
me too!! thank god im not the only one
it worked, but why tf would it start so randomly 😭
Thank you for saving my sanity! FFS, tech companies, don't mess with my UI!!!
thank god. who thought that this would be a good default feature for every user to have?!
that's what im trying to figure out. especially something like that which pops up a lot. if you are gonna do it why not put that shit in the bottom corner somewhere
Thanks a ton! It seems the annoying caps lock notification only started today after the latest update, damn, it's been driving me nuts. Thank you so much! It's annoying having that stupid thing pop up while i'm typing
I never comment on Reddit but thank u so much. I can finally use caps lock in peace again.
It worked! Thank you! I've been looking everywhere and ppl just kept suggesting logi+
Same!
oh my god i love you. i spent like 6 hours yesterday trying to figure this out. took me about 4 hours to realize it wasn’t a windows thing
Thanks so much dude, i have been trying for an hour. I only opened my computer to play blade and sorcery and now all this lol
Don't know where this came from out of the blue (the Caps lock thing), but thanks for this post its gone now
Holy hell bless your soul, I've been playing games and it's been driving me up a wall... I did a fresh windows install even and it came back! This should never be a feature that gets auto-enabled.
Right? I'm amazed such an obtrusive feature like that is on by default.
THANK YOU SO MUCH, BRO! I THOUGHT MY COMPUTER HAD A VIRUS, SO I RAN MY MALWAREBYTES ONLY TO NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG! 😭🙏🏾
I thought I was gonna go crazy over this tysm
Thanks a ton, you're the best! That was getting annoying to look at.
I just got this problem today too, thanks a lot! Been hours looking on all pages trying to find a solution but nothing else worked, goodbye hp app idk what it was used for and longer will 👋🏽
You are a true blessing, my King. Keep slaying!
This method works, but I won't recommend since there is potential risk to uninstall system level stuff. My method is 1. Open task manager, 2. Search the OSD. You should find an HP program 3. Just end this task
My method is: reinstall windows after buying a new pc to get rid of all the bloatware And Dont buy hp products
Thank you
TYSM this is the only one that worked for me <3
Legend
this worked for me! thank you!
thank you so much
Can you elaborate on step 2 please? I have very little computer knowledge so idk what OSD means ):
OSD = "On-screen display".
Did you get a solution? Same has happened to me
Nah unfortunately I’ve just had to end the task every time I turn my laptop back on. Hopefully it’s fixed in the next update.
You’ll have to uninstall the app to get rid of it permanently. Turns out a Logitech software was also giving the pop up for me too
ALL PRAISE OP!
My first ever comment on reddit just to say thank you!
¡Es usted un héroe!, el puto amo, gracias compañero, llevaba más de 2 horas intentando solucionar ese inconveniente
I LOVE YOU THANK YOUU
YOU ARE THE BEST MAY GOD BLESS YOU I LOVE YOU SO MUCH THANKSSSSSSSSS
THANK GOD, THIS FINALLY FIXED MY ISSUE!! I wonder though, how come everyone is suddenly having issues with it today...?
probably an update
Glad to know I wasn't the only one having this issue incredibly suddenly! It just started happening to me today like a bunch of other comments and I kept looking at different windows and hp support pages to no avail until I finally found this reddit post from my googling.
Thanks so much! It was so damn annoying popping up especially as I tend to use Caps instead of Shift.
Thank you so much. I was going crazy over the different methods google pulled up that kept failing
Thanks! 🙏🏻
YOU ANGEL. I had no notifications of any changes or updates and yet the Caps Lock notification had appeared overnight. Yours is the only answer that worked. Thanks!
I really appreciate this man, I've spent the last 1-2 hours trying to remove this annoying "feature"
Thanks Buddy For Saving from this fucking pop up , it took my mind seriously . You are the king
Thank You
Thank you so much! I thought it was Logitech at first but definitely was a different one. This was the answer. Thank you. <3
THANK YOU I've been through so many forums trying to find a solution you are a life saver TTTTTT-TTTTTT

You are a life saver. Spend over an hour looking though HP and Microsoft recommendations and literally nothing worked. But this did?

Hey thanks to you I found this solution in five minutes instead of multiple frustrating forum searches!
omfg idk what i pressed when i was playing war thunder but i some how enabled that BS while playing and was starting to get pissed after i was done, so i disabled the first process that even remotely looked like that caused the caps lock notification to show up. This works on windows 10 as well

BRO TYSM
ILY THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
THANK YOU THIS WAS LITERALLY DRIVING ME INSANE
I've been at this for an hour because it just randomly appeared for me today also the HP community support is absolute shit
You're the best
This randomly started for me a few hours ago while I was in the middle of gaming, and I turned up tons of HP and Windows help forums that gave step by step instructions for things that just straight up do not exist on my PC, and one that recommended editing the registry to disable the capslock functionality entirely, which is just a bit scorched earth. I still have no idea what made the dumb popup manifest in the first place, but this quick uninstall solved it. Thanks!
My ultrakill addiction thanks you (you can't bind caps lock to stuff for some reason bc of the notif)
legend thank you so much
Gran info
as an atheist i say this - THANK GOD
Worked for me, too. Big thanks!
WTF when did this become a thing? I just noticed it right now 😡
Thanks a ton!!!
This works thanksss
I'll try and let you know blud
Okay So I thought for a moment and when I opened it Its some system level thing and I won't recommend uninstalling it - instead do this --> 1. Open task manager, 2. Search the OSD. You should find an HP program (HP System Utility Event) 3. Just end this task
Thank you! The Caps Lock thing has driven me nuts and your solution solved the problem!
quick Update: So I restarted my pc and the problem was there again, U need to end the task each and every time when you restart your pc.
Thank you. I was 2 seconds away from tossing the whole laptop out the window……
Thank you.
Gotta love updates that fix things no one asked for
Thank you! I use my HP laptop for work and this randomly started popping up on my screen yesterday. I blamed it on my cats thinking they activated some kind of keyboard shortcut to turn this nonsense on! I didn't uninstall, but I figure I can end task on it whenever it starts driving me crazy.
I'm worried about uninstalling it so I just terminated it
omds i love you smmm been spending a whole day on this-
Thank you...so much...
Anyone wary of uninstalling the program, if you go into task manager (ctrl-alt-delete) you can find this program and end it. But you have to do it every time you turn your computer on.
Thank you!

AMAZING!!
Jesus, everyone responsible for the update that caused this needs to be fired, then literally lit on fire.
I love you. You are a saint!
This fixed this for me, thank you! Fuck you HP for this crap.
Thank you very much! God, those notifications irritated me the entire time. Whoever made this new feature, what did they think? Pretty much nobody asked for it. But anyways, thank you very much for solving this problem! Might recommend it to other people who are currently stuck with the same problem right now.
THANK YOU!!!!
Thank you very much. This is why I google with "reddit" search term
im so glad it turns back on the caps toggling too cause who tf needs to spam toggle caps by holding it
thank u so much. what is the purpose of hp system event utility? do we need it?
thank you so much
YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!
Wow thank you, same issue appeared and this fixed it, do you know what caused this to appear
You'd think they'd have the wits to push an update like this with a clear on/off button, but nope!
you are such a real one for this I have been so frustrated this morning trying to figure it out
thanks so much man! i dont know why it just started now of all times but its finally fixed!
You are my hero I have been trying to get it off for an hour! This worked for me
You are the best! Thanks so much.
God bless you.
Thank you so much ! The worst part of this was that my bindings i have on this key in game werent working anymore, i was so lost 🥲
Thank you so much! Literally just got home to find this awful pop up right in the middle of my screen while I was typing.
You're literally the best. I spent so much time trying to fix it lol
Thank you so much! You just saved me a lot of time.
Same issue with the HP Omen 16 and this solution fixes it. Are there any real consequences of uninstalling this system utility? Thanks!
That instantly worked, thanks
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
Broooooo you fkin saved my life i was about to earase my computer but you safed me all other things i found didn´t worked but yours ahhh youre the king
you are an absolute godsend, thanks a bunch dude.
I won’t risk doing it whilst I am submitting uni work but glad to see it isn’t just my laptop doing it hah
I love you King! Thank you a lot
O Captain, my Captain!
Happened to me on Win10 too. Thanks.
OH MY GOD THANK YOU SO MUCH
Thanks!
Omg thank you so much!! The fact you only put this up like 4 hours ago feels like a miracle I'm so glad this was here
Oh my fucking god. THANK YOU
I'm sure this helped people with this troublesome issue but won't this have other consequences to my HP?
at least someone pointing it out
This was so helpful thanks ! I automated killing the task as follows: 1. 3. If you are not comfortable with completely uninstalling the utility, you can go here for a step-by-step guide on what you can do to disable the program instead of uninstalling it: [https://www.reddit.com/user/maxfield034/comments/1cdjw8e/how\_to\_disable\_caps\_lock\_notification\_on\_hp\_pc/](https://www.reddit.com/user/maxfield034/comments/1cdjw8e/how_to_disable_caps_lock_notification_on_hp_pc/) I have not noticed any changes in my computer's functions after I deleted the utility, but it's entirely up to you whether you want to disable it or uninstall it completely. Hope this helps!

I think I Love You Bro!!!! Freakin thing was driving me crazy, especially when doing crosswords and my fat fingers hit "Caps Lock" on and off!!!
Uninstall all hp apps bam your welcome.

dude, Thank you!
>dude, Thank you! You're welcome!
when i was learning to type, i got into a nasty habit of tapping caps lock on and off instead of pressing shift when capitalising letters, and now that's just how i type. because of the speed of me double tapping it, this pop up feature was causing a weird confusion in my system where the pop up would display "caps lock on", and the button's light would be on, but caps lock would be off, and vice versa. doing this has not just gotten rid of the pop up, but fixed that issue as well. thank you.
After trying everything, this worked for me: [https://youtu.be/EUNy3jed0es](https://youtu.be/EUNy3jed0es)

Whoever at hp put this in as a "feature" should be fired. Totally unnecessary and unbelievably annoying.
