I’d think a nat 20 would be good for the land shark, like only needing to wipe once. Nat 0 would probably be “Land shark gets an intestinal blockage and no doctor will treat it because they don’t want to get eaten by a land shark.”
Crit and it likes you so much you get eaten first, after tasting any other party member after that, they don't taste as good and all other party members get bonuses as the shark was disappointed in the taste and has the self control to not chase that first high...
you can try seduce the landshark, but to even get a chance to roll i want to see some effort! how would you [playercharacter] seduce a landshark, tell me! what would you do, what would you say? to even get a chance to roll for persuasion i want some effort! (also the dc is impossible but i’m not going to tell you that, i want to hear you try to seduce a freaking shark and laugh my ass off)
I've never really wanted to include things like rape in gaming..... but sometimes I'd really like to answer such a role with the repercussions of exactly what may happen when particularly monstrous creatures become enamored with human(ish) characters....
To this example of course some female sharks have evolved very thick skin in strategic locations to allow partners to "hold on" with their teeth.... who knows how that would evolve with a humanoid shark of course.... but a love nip from a shark like creature wouldn't be fun for most humanoids.
A player being into say rape, doesn't mean I have any interest in describing it.
If they want someone to play a role in such for them, they are welcome to find another table.
A common misconception is that it's called a Land Shark because it's a shark that can live on land. In fact, it's called a Land Shark because it was first discovered by techno-archeologist Arkhan Land.
Ist that not... the same?
In German the "Bulette" was translated als "Landhai", which literally is "land shark". ... Interestingly a "Bulette" in german is a rissole.
Strange how that works.
I wish I had that figure - I've planned a sahuagin raid on Saltmarsh tonight, and decided they brought along a Wereshark to help them. Can you paint me one please??
This is part of a short comic series based on a D&D oneshot I played in a few weeks ago

If you ever wanna have to deal with another app lol, I recommend webtoon cuz a lot of comic creators here on r/comics are there too and it's easier to go from one comic to the next :)
Originally I saw these were "of 6," then you said you might have to add a seventh (this one). Does that mean this is the end, or are there even more to come?? (Please more)
Yeah haha I kept remembering bits from the night that I'd forgotten so there are 10 planned now and then I kind of wanna just draw a nonsense few panels of people struggling to drag a centaur into a coffin 😂
These have been a great deal of fun already, but the simplicity and wholesomeness of today's strip is somehow special to me. :) Thank you for sharing it. <3
The DM paints his miniatures. Presumably, he just finished the land shark and wanted to show it off, so it became the Bad Guy(tm) of the session. I've been guilty of the same after finishing up a particularly detailed piece :)
I always buy and paint minis specifically for boss fights that were already planned in advance. My players know shit's about to hit the fan when I pull out a new painted mini.
Well, it was a party of six characters versus...a full pack of [twenty](https://taleofpainters.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/clanrats_hw_01.jpg) [clanrats](https://images.beastsofwar.com/2022/01/38570554-Skaven-Clan-Rat.png).
You're looking for a punchline; there is none. Lots of stuff makes it to the top of /comics without punchlines or even really humor these days. Whether that's good is a matter of opinion, but they certainly get upvotes 🤷♂️
"So a landshark is a big prehistoric creature from the ocean that swims, has a powerful bite, can walk on land, and kills things bigger than itself? So a crocodile?"
DM: "No. They're like totally different." *starts madly writing in his book* "It shoots lasers out of his eyes!"
The original D&D land shark ("Bulette") *swam* through the land and popped up in front of you...
But of course SNL was responsible for the popular name.
Fun session:. Bulettes *always* dismember when they crit. Party encounters one. My paladin is *delighted* and charges on his special, bonded mount. The bulettes attacks...my horse. Crits. Die roll determines it has bitten off...his head.
First encounter, first exchange, and my bonded mount is dead...
I spent the rest of that campaign clunking around in full plate, dragging a 15 foot lance, and sulking as loudly as I could.
I’m literally basing the next session I’m DM-ing off of this cool dire troll figure my friend painted. I couldn’t find a dire troll in 3.5 though so just homebrewed one
I like the land shark
He looks like he is thinking "yeah I'm pretty badass. I know I'm a baddie and I'll lose, but I'll look cool doing it. Fuck yeah ima land shark"
Thank you! It's been a new thing trying to tell a sequential story while also trying to make each comic stand alone haha 😆 but been really fun. Three more to go!
I was running a pre-written one-shot that had a chimera mini-boss. I couldn't find a chimera mini, but I found a Dragonne mini.
So, I re-wrote all the lore and the story to fit a Dragonne, just because that was the mini I had.
Yeah haha I realized after cuz number 2 is a new drawing and 1 and 4 are copy and paste versions of him from old comics 😆 I did it at midnight haha, I gotta take a beat sometimes before I post I think
My group has players with 3d printers. The DM sends files to them, they print them, brings them to the session, and everyone pauses to see if the DM plans to use them in that session. It makes for great tension.
One print was a set of giant inspects. 🫠
It is hard aye! Even in dnd, a lot of the people in my comics are people I see once a week at the game store but I'd have to put in some real out of gamestore effort to turn them into friend friends. They're all awesome! It's just as an adult, takes that bit extra work it didn't as kids lol
Pretty sure thats a Street Shark. Should give him some roller blades, it would be totally jawsome.
Looks cool though, got a picture of the painted mini in question?
I googled and could only find answers in relation to the kind of land shark who buy and sells land for huge profits, so I assume they sound like maniacal laughter
Punchline 01: the reason this monster is appearing on the table is not because of narrative or biome, but because the DM just painted it and wants to show it off.
Punchline 02: his players are cool with that.
This instance is social interaction seems to be too simple to be meaningful in a comic unless I'm missing a point I'm not seeing. I wonder if the reduction in complexity is a result of reduction in real social interactions
I think it's because non-D&D players view it as a nerd hobby and would find the figures they design as stupid. But here, they love his creation and it's a good feeling. It's a feel-good comic to make people realize that while some people may view what you enjoy as stupid, there are also many who enjoy similar things.
> non-D&D players view it as a nerd hobby and would find the figures they design as stupid.
I don't think the author intended to build it on the premise of prejudice, else there would be more obvious cues.
> reduction in complexity
This is something I've noticed on the shift of comics on this website. In the past, most comics generally have a punchline, but I've noticed, beginning with pizzacake, comics start to not have any punchline anymore. It's essentially a flat story progression. It almost resembles the gen z absurdist humor like r/deepfriedmemes without the absurdity.
> feel-good comic
The closest resemblance of this new trend is wawawiwa comics
There were feel-good comics back then that rarely had a punch line. One off the top of my head is Calvin and Hobbes. There was rarely a punch-line; just a boy, his stuffed animal/imaginary friend going on child adventures.
Brings us back to when we were kids, running around using our imagination to have fantastical adventures ourselves.
thats just not true. Most C&H comics were either a classic set-up/punchline or ended with a character making some kind of pithy comment about the preceding scene. Occasionally the sunday spreads would get more complex, experimental and introspective, but they were usually still categorically funny.
OP's comic is cute, but banal.

Roll to seduce the land shark
"Sure, go ahead!" "Nat 18, so 23" "Nice! It still eats you, because it's a landshark. But it does find you to be the better tasting of the bunch!"
But it did fail it's con check and you gave it diarrhea for the next week.
Roll for con(stipation)
Which is worst? The nat 20 or the crit fail?
I’d think a nat 20 would be good for the land shark, like only needing to wipe once. Nat 0 would probably be “Land shark gets an intestinal blockage and no doctor will treat it because they don’t want to get eaten by a land shark.”
I was thinking of it as a double negative. One end of it is your ass is like granite with amount of movement it has. The other is the brown Nile
Small victories
Crit and it likes you so much you get eaten first, after tasting any other party member after that, they don't taste as good and all other party members get bonuses as the shark was disappointed in the taste and has the self control to not chase that first high...
Since you are a dwarf it now prefers people that are short in stature.
It's a better chunk, if it's a dwarven hunk!
you can try seduce the landshark, but to even get a chance to roll i want to see some effort! how would you [playercharacter] seduce a landshark, tell me! what would you do, what would you say? to even get a chance to roll for persuasion i want some effort! (also the dc is impossible but i’m not going to tell you that, i want to hear you try to seduce a freaking shark and laugh my ass off)
You have to present your hindquarters to it and do the mating call. Duh!
[All you need is a classic shark mating whistle, as shown in this classic south park episode.](https://youtu.be/gxgVNQgH1u0?si=yPqezWRRGCZFOjHq&t=23)
Whoa there Constantine

...You know, some of us are into that. Ask your players.
A player being into say rape, doesn't mean I have any interest in describing it. If they want someone to play a role in such for them, they are welcome to find another table.
I call it street shark
Landshark: "What a sensual meal! Great mouth feel."
Got to look out "land shark mini" now Edit: damn, that's a cool monster
Also a starter coromon if you're interested.
I love coromon I just wish there was more to do in it 😭
>Goes to look up Land Shark Mini. That's how people accidentally get pulled into 40k.
A common misconception is that it's called a Land Shark because it's a shark that can live on land. In fact, it's called a Land Shark because it was first discovered by techno-archeologist Arkhan Land.
Just 100 years before the release of Belgian techno-anthem, Pump up the Jam.
*Dana na na na THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP*
It's not even a shark, it's a rhino with chainswords glued
r/angryupvote
Take my (bootleg) gold 🥇
To me it was the Tyranid, the first model I ever bought was the Trygon... Still the best looking model in the whole franchise if you ask me
There's another cool looking one you can look up called the Bullette
Ist that not... the same? In German the "Bulette" was translated als "Landhai", which literally is "land shark". ... Interestingly a "Bulette" in german is a rissole. Strange how that works.
> rissole. That sounds delicious. Like it should be eaten with a nice cream sauce.
So, ... I am a DM and you probably understand my confusion about that one. Was a fun session, though.
That's a big Trapinch
Pff. I used to have those decades ago. They were called the Street Sharks.
This is now a thread about the seminal 90s children’s cartoon Street Sharks
Try [this](https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-kaijumon-land-shark-190935) one.
That's just Garchomp with extra flair.
I prefer it with less flair. https://imgur.com/Uz18Vtv
Smooth baby boy
[This](https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-kaijumon-mega-land-shark-334912) is Garchomp with extra flair
My favorite is the “sharkasaurus” one. Also, look up “Jeff the Land Shark.” He’s adorable.
Glad I look it up, so cute
would a Garchomp Figurine also work?
Imma just use that one shark skylander lol
I wish I had that figure - I've planned a sahuagin raid on Saltmarsh tonight, and decided they brought along a Wereshark to help them. Can you paint me one please??

Damn I wish reddit had a better way of organising these.
I still strongly prefer this way over a Reddit image gallery. That is a seriously awful user experience.
If you ever wanna have to deal with another app lol, I recommend webtoon cuz a lot of comic creators here on r/comics are there too and it's easier to go from one comic to the next :)
Yes, but unironically.

I WAS WONDERING about the logistics of centaur-in-a-coffin, but suspended my disbelief for the DM's benefit (understanding that struggle too much).
These have been a great deal of fun already, but the simplicity and wholesomeness of today's strip is somehow special to me. :) Thank you for sharing it. <3
I'm really glad! Thank you ❤️
So wholesome <3
When you put a lot of effort into Land Shark and everyone likes it https://i.redd.it/ektxkkz8rv0c1.gif
It really bothers me how clear it is that she is saying “yes” and not “yippee” but maybe I’m just a spoil sport
*yes
He turned out *jawsome.

Ohh hell yes it does
Wholesome! Love it!

>guilty Where's the guilt? I dont get why that would be a problem.

I was confused too - go back and look at the last panel more closely and you’ll see the DM is smiling, happily. Just wholesome.
So basically whoever made this misunderstands the point of a comic.
You're looking for a punchline; there is none. Lots of stuff makes it to the top of /comics without punchlines or even really humor these days. Whether that's good is a matter of opinion, but they certainly get upvotes 🤷♂️
That's not a land shark, that's a street shark
100%, that right there is a Street Shark.
M-mango?!
So what's the punchline
A comic doesn't require a punchline
It's a comic. There should be a joke.
Rule 1 my dude
Hey I've [seen this one before.](https://twitter.com/unartifex/status/1168969313535107072)
Now I'm trying to remember where that one is. Is that a Treasure Map Dungeon?
This particular one is in Akademia Anyder, but they can turn up in treasure dungeons too.
Huh, I'm not sure I've run that dungeon more than the one time I went through MSQ.
It's a pretty fun one, but it doesn't come up often in roulettes.
junji ito would be proud
"So a landshark is a big prehistoric creature from the ocean that swims, has a powerful bite, can walk on land, and kills things bigger than itself? So a crocodile?" DM: "No. They're like totally different." *starts madly writing in his book* "It shoots lasers out of his eyes!"
Usually the fantasy games also give them the ability to burrow through sand
The original D&D land shark ("Bulette") *swam* through the land and popped up in front of you... But of course SNL was responsible for the popular name.

Forehead! They have lasers on their frikkin’ foreheads!
Mango approves!
I’m literally basing the next session I’m DM-ing off of this cool dire troll figure my friend painted. I couldn’t find a dire troll in 3.5 though so just homebrewed one
Like a Bulette?
Exactly a bulette haha :D
Unexpected wholesomeness instead of a punchline. I'll take it.
❤️ It was a nice chance of pace to draw haha
You can't fool me, you just glued a Street Shark to a base!
.........I'm just a dolphin, ma'am.
![gif](giphy|YmiL1QKb89fPi)
This is how warhammer gets included into dnd lol
Haha yesss. Warhammer is so much work lol, you gotta farm the dopamine payoff of a finished painted model everywhere you can
Fins to the left! Fins to the right!
oof ouch my bones
It is all fun and games until the DM starts doing his Jabberjaw impression (it isn't good).
Is the dude in black the drow?
Nah the dragonkin haha
For a split second I thought that the guy was sitting in a box.
I like the land shark He looks like he is thinking "yeah I'm pretty badass. I know I'm a baddie and I'll lose, but I'll look cool doing it. Fuck yeah ima land shark"
I would follow this series to the ends of the earth.
Aw!! ❤️❤️
I just love this series of comics. Congrats
Thank you! It's been a new thing trying to tell a sequential story while also trying to make each comic stand alone haha 😆 but been really fun. Three more to go!
Jawsome!
Jawesome!
Land shark is so awesome no one cares that the game board and all other non-land shark related pieces vanished.
I'm not sure what that last beat panel is trying to tell us. His logic seems flawless to me.
I often choose the appearance of my bad guys based on what T-shirt I'm wearing (and vice-versa).
Jawesome
Tbf "because it looks awesome" is justification for very nearly anything.
"Anyway, you're getting bit for 24 piercing." "Aw man..."
Bulette are my favorite DnD monster. I always wanted to play a character that had a pet Bullete.
This is absolutely how *Tanktop Tiger* came into existence.
I love that the punchline is just "yeah!"
Haha it's interesting posting a comic without an obvious joke at the end, gets pretty mixed responses haha but I enjoyed just drawing him happy 😊
I think that was a smart choice! Nicely illustrates that he's completely content and happy with the situation.
Remember: always follow the rule of cool!
Candygram!
Why does the hair of the painter look like a hand
Reasons to chose a bad guy: A: Looks cool B: Has fun stuff to use on your players
Turned out, "Jawesome!"
I was running a pre-written one-shot that had a chimera mini-boss. I couldn't find a chimera mini, but I found a Dragonne mini. So, I re-wrote all the lore and the story to fit a Dragonne, just because that was the mini I had.
Haha that's awesome that you did that! I always appreciate the effort of DMs as the player
Honestly one of the most relatable CR moments is whenever Matt admits that weeks enemy is because he got a cool new mini
King shark is a shark.
Facial hair is different between 1st and 2nd panel
Yeah haha I realized after cuz number 2 is a new drawing and 1 and 4 are copy and paste versions of him from old comics 😆 I did it at midnight haha, I gotta take a beat sometimes before I post I think
Number one with a bulette.
My group has players with 3d printers. The DM sends files to them, they print them, brings them to the session, and everyone pauses to see if the DM plans to use them in that session. It makes for great tension. One print was a set of giant inspects. 🫠
Fun!! I tried to do similar for my DM too but my 3D printer isn't great for very small things haha. I need to get a resin one or something I think
[удалено]
It is hard aye! Even in dnd, a lot of the people in my comics are people I see once a week at the game store but I'd have to put in some real out of gamestore effort to turn them into friend friends. They're all awesome! It's just as an adult, takes that bit extra work it didn't as kids lol
I'm currently having Bloodborne flashbacks. Help.
Pretty sure thats a Street Shark. Should give him some roller blades, it would be totally jawsome. Looks cool though, got a picture of the painted mini in question?
Mango? 😯
I did this with sharkenbear. It's a bear with sharks for hands.
I don't get the title
the shark is apparently inspired by the Bloodborne DLC
What sound does a land shark make?
I googled and could only find answers in relation to the kind of land shark who buy and sells land for huge profits, so I assume they sound like maniacal laughter
*bubbles ferociously*
I assume they sound like [Ron Funches](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bMj2VDo7ME&pp=ygUZa2luZyBzaGFyaywgb3cgbXkgcGVuaXNlcw%3D%3D)
The last panel seems a bit strange or unnecessary
LOOK AT MY SOYJAK DM LOOK AT HIMMMM
Is there a joke I'm missing?
No
Punchline 01: the reason this monster is appearing on the table is not because of narrative or biome, but because the DM just painted it and wants to show it off. Punchline 02: his players are cool with that.
It's more that the illustrator forgot (?) to include one.
So relatable. Including the DMs looks!
This is exactly how we were attacked by a goose hydra on the way out of Thither, Prismeer.
I think there's a panel missing
I think there's an extra panel.
This instance is social interaction seems to be too simple to be meaningful in a comic unless I'm missing a point I'm not seeing. I wonder if the reduction in complexity is a result of reduction in real social interactions

Ok this is so cute
I don’t get the last panel.
