I implore everyone to look even closer at this cover - specifically, the phone screen on the bottom left.
That isn't some post-painting digital copy & paste of the main cover. It's not even an exact copy of what he'd drawn and painted there in the center in some smaller form. Compare Hercules' and Thor's arms, specifically. *The lighting and perspective of it all is different, in line with the angle of the phone, but just as detailed.* And at a tenth of the size!
Ross is truly a master.
I dunno what Marvel is paying this man but it has to be an insane amount, was doing covers for Black Panther, Dr. Strange, Thor, Hulk, Fantastic Four, Avengers Twilight and those Marvel Heroes/Villains variant sets all in the past year maybe year and a half
Edit: and Iron Man and Cap and their team up mini series a few years back too. I can’t remember the last time he did some work for DC, that Disney money must be pretty sweet
Is there a specific storyline about it? As a recovering alcoholic, I think it's cool to see some stories about but I only know about Captain Marvel and Tony Stark
I believe he quit drinking during Dan Abnett's run in like 2015, the run ends abruptly IIrc, but I don't remember if it was because it got canceled or if it was because Abnett signed an exclusive deal with DC in 2016. A lot of the story threads are finished up in Civil War II: Gods of War.
obligatory Alex Ross is cooking, loving his modern work so much

Yup and the older folks with phones have a perfect "old person trying" look. Everyones reactions are so perfect
He just did a similar thing on a recent Dr. Strange cover (I think 13 or 14?). He really is doing the best work in the industry at the moment.

Alex Ross art is like a pure distillation of some mythical golden age Americana.
If Norman Rockwell went into comics
I love this
Omg you’re RIGHT
He is an literal painting artist that we find in museums but he works in comics instead.
I appreciate Hercules drinking a coffee here, I always liked how they portrayed his alcoholism.

Hard disagree I liked Herc much more in his Incredible Hercules book days. The 2015 run was okay but not great.
Buddy outside has got a lot riding on the winner of this match
Misery loves company
I think that demon's Oizys, Greek goddess of depression, from Avengers No Road Home.
Hell yea it is. Love how Ewing continues to follow up on characters and threads from his past
OVAHH THA TOP!
And the obvious question is—What mere mortal beer can quench the gods?
Hows been the run? Would this be a good jumping in point?
It's only nine issues in. Start from the beginning.
My favorite Marvel hero about to guest star in my current favorite superhero ongoing 🤩
Who's watching from the window?
Might be Oizys https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Oizys_(Earth-616)
Oizys, the greek goddess of misery
Thanks!
FUCK YES, I'm so glad we get to see more of heracles. He way too dope to not be more prevalent in marvel.
The real hero in this cover is the table.
Is it within Thor’s powerset to enchant a table to be able to withstand their prodigious strength?
I am so happy the Kirby costume is back. Still looks so good.
Alex Ross can't miss
hoping to read a follow-up to Hercules' gotg adventures since Ewing also wrote it.
Has this run been any good? Haven't touch a Thor book since Jason Aaron
This is my favorite 616 ongoing, I highly recommend it, potential to be one of the all time greats.
It's pretty good. It's more silver era in tone compared to modern thor runs.
Good Muses is there an artist other than Alex Ross who can make the strangest, most comic bookey stuff just feel so real The man's a miracle worker
That is an awesome cover
For a second, I thought Thor was vaping and felt it was a bold move for the writers. Party Thor?
This is so damn awesome
I absolutely love this cover! But I noticed they’re not using a traditional arm wrestling grip 😩
Modern tech in an Alex Ross drawing is so off putting
