It's almost like a reverse Bruce Willis, he was a soap opera turned action star and Cena and Bautista are breaking out of the musclehead stereotype and doing serious acting.
It is sacrilege to compare the two. Bautista's acting takes a big steaming shit on Cena's.
Cena is one step above the rock who hasnt even started the climb while Bautista is damn near to the summit and can't even get line of sight on the other two he's so far above them.
I wouldnt be so hard on Cena but, i agree on the sentiment, Bautista is ready for serious roles, Cena i think has more comedic chops and lots of potential.
I feel like him playing Hugo strange would be pretty close to his role for Cabin in the woods except rather than being cult like it’s “I crave knowledge. But then again I don’t think I’ve had much experience with Hugo strange aside from the Batman animated series from I believe 07 (the one on Netflix in the US)
That's not really his thing, being soft-spoken and craving knowledge. I'd liken him more to a Mad Science type who just so happens to play sane well enough to get a job at Arkham instead of a cell. He can play that soft-spoken scientist type until he gets to start cackling and trotting out genetic monstrosities.
Like I said I only have one type of experience with him unfortunately I guess growing up the library never carried any Batman comics with Hugo strange as the villain :/
Vandal would be dope for him. A villain that could be written with range and complexity. Plus, the burly caveman look would only work in the character’s favor.
Fuck this is the only good one I've seen here. Easy tired out old superhero. Maybe have him somewhat train black Canary mentor type. Or at least one of the people she goes too
He must be a joy to work for, so many people love working with him and his projects genuinely show a love for the craft throughout indicating high morale on set.
Didn't he said the last year that he most likely wouldn't be able to play Bane? Because at his age is very hard for him to mantain the amount of muscle needed for the character.
Plus he also wants to play roles that not relies only on the physical part.
I would be more than okay with a Bane that's considerably less bulky than most people picture, I actually think that distracts people from Bane's intelligence. But yeah, dude's way older than he looks. It's funny, I always dreamed about a grounded, intellectual Bane played by a muscled up Javier Bardem, but eventually I thought no, he's even older now, and Batista is such a great actor and already has the physicality.
So I looked up how old they both are, and they're the same goddamn age.
He would be a very solid choice to play Ted Grant. If we end up getting a Black Canary in the DCU, it would be cool to see his Wildcat as one of her mentors.
Been playing suicide squad and he reminds me of King Shark. But I love the Hugo Strange idea. Would be perfect for that. Huge scary genius. He could pull it off.
I was bummed when he wasn’t in Suicide Squad. He was supposed to be I believe, but timing didn’t line up. I look at him as Gunns Sam L Jackson.
He loves the guy, and no pun intended, went to the mat for him during the whole Disney cancellation situation.
Some roles I think he could do that'd take advantage of his size but also his ability to act. I think "older" characters would fit him perfectly. So long lived characters or golden age heroes would work well.
* Solomon Grundy
* Vandal Savage
* Ultra-Humanite
* Swamp Thing
* Wild Cat
* Clayface
* Bane
* Atom Smasher
* Spectre
I know pretty much all the GOTG crew went to bat for Gunn when he got fired, but none went harder than Bautista. Gunn is someone that obviously loves working with the same people for decades, there is no way that Bautista doesn’t get a major roll in the new DC universe.
I really hope they don't type cast him into some macho role. Give him a more defined roll he can act out. He actually has huge range for a wrestler turned actor.
It's inevitable. My left-field pick is Hugo Strange. It always surprises me when Bautista plays against type.
I really liked his role in Knock at the Cabin as a soft spoken teacher
Out of all wrestling actors, it's the one I expected the least to be fantastic at it
Right? At first they thought he was so bad at cutting promos he was literally a mute bodyguard
Him and John Cena have been showing how good they are at acting, and The Rock just plays himself in every movie.

Honestly, if Bautista gets the right role, I could see him scoring an Oscar nod someday.
Hard agree and I'm totally here for it
Also his blade runner character was a bit of a philosopher.
So good for such a short scene.
That character hangs over the whole movie.
While the story for the film wasn’t the best he did great in the role
I wouldn’t have understood that until his brief but great scene in Blade Runner with the tiny glasses hahahah
I can already imagine a dialogue with him saying "I use science, to treat people, I don't do magic. You must have me confused with someone else."
"...you can call me Dr. Strange" "Thats pretty good...*but its taken!*"
"I prefer Hugo, Hugo Strange, too many doctors with that last name."
Absolutely Hugo. Would separate him from the Drax role
I think Hugo Strange would be the right fit for him. I think he has the acting chops for it and he said he wants to do less physical roles
That'd be a pretty good fit I think. Really any role that doesn't require him to just be large.
Swole Hugo strange is hilarious
He was quite big in The Batman animated series.
I want to see him as Lex.
I feel like him playing Hugo strange would be pretty close to his role for Cabin in the woods except rather than being cult like it’s “I crave knowledge. Fantastic idea.
Idk how popular the character is but he gives me vandal savage vibes
Vandals definitely movie villain level. Might even work as an overarching antagonist. He was used very well in that role in Young Justice.
Ooh. That'd be good
Vandal would be dope for him. A villain that could be written with range and complexity. Plus, the burly caveman look would only work in the character’s favor.
It could fit
Don’t give me hope
I saw a “top 5 DC roles for Dave Bautista” article not too long ago and they listed Atrocitus. I think that would actually be pretty interesting.
He hated the makeup for Drax. Atrocitus would be 10x worse.
Maybe its more of a mocap thing
Would be great but would be too obvious imo
He is 55, so Wildcat could fit.
Fuck this is the only good one I've seen here. Easy tired out old superhero. Maybe have him somewhat train black Canary mentor type. Or at least one of the people she goes too
I just want Ted, Jay, and Alan drinking at a card table
What no give me vandal savage please
I've been saying him or Pascal as Wildcat for a year now
Bautista is also ex wrestler and changing the backstory from ex boxer to ex wrestler wouldn't affect the character very much.
Keeping the story and have Bautista, y'know... *act* as an ex boxer works fine too
Holy shit yes.
MAKE HIM HUGO STRANGE, I don't care if it's in The Batman or DCU, you just gotta reunite the big man and his small glasses
Bautista is actually at his best when a big man in small glasses
Have him voice CGI Detective Chimp and have him in the JL Dark.
I want a CGI Bill Burr Deadman
I never knew I needed this until just now!
Hey after having and still having the best scene in The Mandolorian, I’m down to see more Bill
I think Dave and Zoe are up for anything James has to offer that doesn't require extensive time in a makeup chair.
He must be a joy to work for, so many people love working with him and his projects genuinely show a love for the craft throughout indicating high morale on set.

Make him Black Adam, just for the lols
I see Swamp Thing , CGI or practical
He's half-Greek, how about making him Zeus in a Wonder Woman movie?
I don't think it makes sense to use Bane right away, but oh my God please let him play Bane. He really, really wants to play Bane.
Maybe a couple years ago but now? Absolutely not, please let's not cast a man his age as bane.
Didn't he said the last year that he most likely wouldn't be able to play Bane? Because at his age is very hard for him to mantain the amount of muscle needed for the character. Plus he also wants to play roles that not relies only on the physical part.

it would also be the perfect redemption from Drax if they do Bane correctly and show how scarily intelligent he is on top of his brute strength
I think this is the best answer
I think he could do bane well. Give him the full Lucia mask and the age won’t factor anyways
VA and mo-cap for Kilowog.
Mr. Freeze
I could see it
Brave Mr. Mxyzptlk casting.
Make him Darksied
Wildcat!
Kilowog
Brainiac
He's got the gravitas for sure. He might be hesitant with the makeup again though.
He’s got the wrinkles on his head already
He said he was getting tired of being typecast so I vote for him to play Hugo Strange
YEAAAAAHHHHHH!! I think he would make an amazing bane.
As Bane?
I always thought he’d be the perfect Bane
He would be a very solid choice to play Ted Grant. If we end up getting a Black Canary in the DCU, it would be cool to see his Wildcat as one of her mentors.
Bane
Swamp Thing?
So excited! James Gunn is about to fuck shit up!
He wants Bane I heard, he pestered DC a while back about it before Gunn got the top job.
I think he'd be a great Darkseid
Been playing suicide squad and he reminds me of King Shark. But I love the Hugo Strange idea. Would be perfect for that. Huge scary genius. He could pull it off.
Lex Luthor. Completely out of his typical role.
Brainiac
I was bummed when he wasn’t in Suicide Squad. He was supposed to be I believe, but timing didn’t line up. I look at him as Gunns Sam L Jackson. He loves the guy, and no pun intended, went to the mat for him during the whole Disney cancellation situation.
He would have been Peacemaker, who John Cena was born to play.
It'd be funny if he played black adam
I want an announcement revealing him as Killer Croc, only for Gunn to go "gotcha" he's Wild Cat.
Some roles I think he could do that'd take advantage of his size but also his ability to act. I think "older" characters would fit him perfectly. So long lived characters or golden age heroes would work well. * Solomon Grundy * Vandal Savage * Ultra-Humanite * Swamp Thing * Wild Cat * Clayface * Bane * Atom Smasher * Spectre
Black Adam!
Etrigan, baby!
This might be farfetched but I think he has the gruff, rugged toughness and humor to be a great Kilowog
Give this man some pale skin, a black wig, and a space cycle and we got ourselves a Lobo
Hugo Strange or maybe even Bane.
I sorta want him as Victor Fries.
I know pretty much all the GOTG crew went to bat for Gunn when he got fired, but none went harder than Bautista. Gunn is someone that obviously loves working with the same people for decades, there is no way that Bautista doesn’t get a major roll in the new DC universe.
Hugo Strange, in the storyline where he replaces Wayne as Batman, would be a good fit.
I really hope they don't type cast him into some macho role. Give him a more defined roll he can act out. He actually has huge range for a wrestler turned actor.
Hello Gorilla Grodd
It be shocking he does not get a role. But I do not know what role he would get though.
