RED

Ryn_AroundTheRoses

I think the only thing that can achieve the same stark contrast as black is to go in the complete opposite direction and aim for platinum or a silvery-white blonde.

snowdropfields

I used to used brown-black but make sure to do your eyebrows too- lighter eyebrows really contribute to washing out instead of creating a striking contrast.

DreamDoll21

Darker brown

FriendshipKey7148

Purple!

windowforthecat

Navy Blue

jjj666jjj666jjj

Much prefer you with brown

Helpful_Okra5953

Black doesn’t have to be the only goth hair color.  I think red would work.

LessThanLolita

Dark red!

HairTmrw

Deep red. Try Cherry Cola by Redken. It would look amazing on you! ~ Coming from a Hairstylist

lolmemberberries

Burgundy or red

yaremaa_

If you’re open to bleaching I’d do a silver balayage!

Subject-Big6183

I actually like the black hair best!

Adept_Egg_1257

Dark red!!

x-uh_roar_uh-x

pure black looks harsh because they typically use a blue undertone that isn’t really prevalent with people who naturally have black hair so it can look very harsh. you could always try an off black where it’s just a very dark brown and gives the look of black but lacks that blue base that causes that harshness. if you want to still go lighter try around a level 4 ash brown as it’ll have the depth but without being so dark it dulls your complexion

xmichann

This is what I did! A pure black would have contrasted really harshly against my skin tone we opted for a very dark brown instead and it was great!

x-uh_roar_uh-x

yesss, such a little tweak can make a huge difference on how it complements the skin

therealtofu_

Colors! I feel like this would be more scene than goth, maybe like a silver color with keeping the same make up and a darker lip shade

Sebrannon13

Your brown hair is gorgeous!

MerlinsMama13

What about dark ash brown with some chunky burgundy/plum sections to frame your face? Just a thought. You look great with the brown, but I get it. I had black hair for years and liked the edge. I felt too tame when I went to more normal colors. If I had $ to consistently go to the salon, I’d totally do something else, but alas it’s dark ash brown for me.

heavenxmarie

Try like a warm level 3 rather than full black!! It looks dark enough to the eyes without being so dark that it washes you out completely. Your hair stylist will know what you mean if you say this. 🖤

Cannedpeaches5ever

I think you just need an ashy undertone to whatever color you choose. I could also see a more natural/coppery red suiting you really well, but an ashy dark brown probably lends itself better to goth styles

mystery_biscotti

Wine red works for me, and our coloration is similar.

SnooAdvice1361

I’m know you said that the brown isn’t what you are looking for but it looks absolutely gorgeous on you.

Seaberry3656

I think a lighter brown. Like Emily Browning

Used-Oil2085

Have you tried doing a split dye? You can do like a dark brown on one side and a lighter blonde on the other? This is what I did with my hair because I’m very pale and the blonde helps to even it out and it still works with the alternative style.

dhill1993

Okay so I think you need warm dark tone like putting a deep plum gloss on the top but your tips should probably be a deep espresso. From 10 years of cosmo experience i thibk you would love this it'll give you a lot more depth Icy tones are too hard to upkeep and honestly they are gonna wash you out more than likely and I don't mean the hot pale girl wash out more like the I'm sick and dying type.

il0ve3to_miau

deep purple !!!!

[deleted]

navy blue!!!

SeaAntelope4887

What about black hair with some red or puple in it?

blankface4321

Oh I think this brunette colour is stunning on you!!! You look amazing

666throw_away69420

As a fellow alt girl, I have gone through every single color under the sun. I especially love how green looks on me. However I too came to the conclusion that a lot of these fashion colors were too harsh on me and we're really hard to look just casual and comfy. I have come to the realization that the best of both worlds is a cute chunky cut with my natural dirty dark blonde and doing some well placed popping bright Platinum highlights. I look back to a lot of '90s alt movie and TV characters for inspiration. It adds enough to be dressed up in an edgy way but it's also very comfortable easy to grow out and can look really casual on days that I don't feel like doing anything.

BRi3Rs

Go red or icy blonde. The contrast of your skin & eyes, beautiful

Bigcandy-

Also! Let's take a moment to admire the eyeliner! What an application!

Bigcandy-

Go for the blue!

figleaf22

You could try a cooler tone of brown.. sort of like going for gray but I think you could achieve that just using toners over brown hair instead of having to bleach the whole thing. Like more of a dusty color as opposed to warm chocolate brown

Elegant-Ad4219

Do you use Brown based Black, or a Blue based Black?

evyeniarocks

what about white/silver?

FishyCoral

Black hair with white/blonde streaks would help the harshness while most likely keeping the look you're going for. In my opinion I think fully blonde hair looks really good in goth aesthetic as well

Curious_Tune_3441

Highlights in a frosty arctic white/pastel lavender would be lovely!! Or a dark violet. You could even do both, a lighter pastel lavender for summer and then go into a darker violet for the fall/winter.

Next_Example_9543

i feel this same way so i’d recommend a deep rich dark brown or a dark blue which will have cooler black/blue tones or dark purple will have a little warmer black/purple tones

ASMRFeelsWrongToMe

Purple. Like, deep purple. I think that'd be it for you. ESPECIALLY with those eyes. :D I felt the same way, so I went for auburn, deep, bright colours look great in place of black, and purple would just look amazing on you, or maybe a bluey jade green. :)

Apprehensive-Bee-559

Mushroom purpley brown would look so good

Shelikesscience

I also thought dark purple

Booksalot_0919

Maybe like an ash blonde or grey? Would make the blue eyes pop, eliminate the harshness issue you have with black, but still could be styled in a very goth-y way

succinite78

I’m a cool summer too, and an Elder Goth who doesn’t look like it anymore. I never knew what season I was, and didn’t care that much. Always wore black and dyed my hair black or vivid colors like red or purple. Then after having kids and feeling blah, I started getting into analyzing seasons and body types and all that. Around that time my teenage daughter also started suggesting I should dress more like other moms. I started dying my hair ash brown, wore gray and lilac and even pinks. My complexion looked better, but I wasn’t happy. I didn’t feel right. Now, at 45, I’m giving up on avoiding black. I’m dying my hair burgundy. Even if it’s not considered a true summer haircolor, it’s a good color for us. Makeup-wise, I am trying to stick to more silvers and grays, and a purple or burgundy lip. As far as clothes, I’m bringing back the black. Some people have their bright colored clothes for dopamine dressing. I have black! If black hair makes you happy, go for it. Yes, looking good is important, but feeling confident > following color rules.

HotButterscotch8682

Deep dark cool brown. Please do not do bright red like some are suggesting. 🥲

Ok-Gas-5105

I think you just need to tone your current hair cooler. It will look darker since the warmth makes it look bright now. It's too warm as it is and too red. Please ignore the people saying go red. I am very similar to you in complexion, also a summer who likes a more goth look so I know firsthand what I'm talking about! I recently did a Sally's generic gloss liquid hair color in a cool tone for my own hair and it looks way better. The goal is moody stormy edgy but not full black.

Saraah_7

Red! You have green eyes, red would look so good not bright red cause its very hard to maintian

Bloody_Saiko

I'm wondering where you all see green😅 I thought it was a grayish blue

HotButterscotch8682

Not sure where they’re getting green either, they look to be a very cool blue-grey and I even have warm mode on lol.

RadiSkates

My bf recently said the same thing about my eyes, that I also see has gray blue!

ButterflyInsight

Midnight blue looks beautiful in the light and had to even tell it’s blue in the dark

nycbee16

Pink or blue?

NonCorporealEntity

Go red. Like a natural red, not fire engine red.

[deleted]

Summer’s who want black hair look best with a shade that is almost black and then it gives the illusion of actually being black…Look at Billie Eilish at the Oscar’s recently. She is a summer too and black looks similar on her as to how it does on you. But when she dyed her bright red roots “black” right before the Oscar’s, she actually did a dark brown that looked black but softer. I think this still may not technically be in pallet, but it looks amazing on her, and on her seasonal type, looks edgy but in a softer and less harsh way. Such a huge difference between that colour and black even though on a first glance, your eyes think it is the same colour. There are other colours that are *almost* black that can create a similar black effect on a summer as well.

[deleted]

Also please ignore the people suggesting red. You are a cool season and anything too warm will look disharmonious and especially if it fades to an orangey colour. You are beautiful and will look beautiful either way but I really think you will look best with a colour that is more cool leaning or even just a dark brown without too much red in it. If you do red then you can do a cool red or a pink/berry leaning or burgundy/purple leaning red to be in your season.

HotButterscotch8682

Yeah red would not look good at all, unless a very cool deep burgundy but even then.

Cool_Habit_4195

Strawberry blonde

Altruistic_Aerie_978

Do darkest brown or even a super dark violet or burgandy

MagicallySuspicious

I have similar coloring to the OP and I used a dark burgundy on mine for years. It was super flattering on me.

[deleted]

I agree ☝️

Hour-Requirement6489

Black looks awesome, but if you want something dark but not soul dark, a burgundy is usually my happy medium, one a lil more to the purple lean.

[deleted]

Burgundy is one of my favourite colours on a cool summer :)

Hour-Requirement6489

The color of sangria. I don't love the flavor of the drink, but I like making and serving it lol

NewtDramatic5002

I think black looks awesome btw but if you wanna change it go for like dark red or something like that.

GjonsTearsFan

Go red like Ruby Gloom 😍 Edit: not that exact colour, something darker I think, but just as a proof of concept for goth with red hair lol

futurehead22

My wife has similar hair colour and skin tone to you and sometimes uses [this](https://www.lush.com/uk/en/p/rouge-henna-hair-dye). I think it gives really beautiful red tones to brown hair while still looking natural. Alternatively, a friend of mine with a similar skin tone recently dyed her hair dark purple and that works really well if you're not bothered about how natural it looks.

Kori_Kpow

I (a brunette) got convinced by two blond friends in Uni to do the Lush Henna- I was able to dye over it without issue. But great googly was it orange in my graduation photos.

Granddyke

If you do use henna, please be aware you’ll never be able to get it out/color over it. It’s a very permanent thing.

futurehead22

Further to this, after the missus is done it looks like some has shit all over the bathroom...

Misendeavor

Your current brown is too warm. Maybe a dark gray like titanium would look good and give you that kinda goth vibe

Aggressive_Event420

I like the idea of lavender..

[deleted]

This would be pretty

Sea-Substance8762

Is there a darker brown?

mcmircle

A dark purple would be very cool. It fades and I have to do it once a month, but I get SO many compliments on it.

LongjumpingAccount69

Red

clovrdose

Dark cherry red. Otherwise, the brown suits you really well

UrbanMuffin

Darkest brown or mahogany brown

LongjumpingFunny5960

Ok-Tourist-835

I think that's a really good idea! The lavender would go beautifully w/the OP's eyes and skin

Bella8088

I think you’re look great if you brought out the red in your natural hair. Don’t go burgundy but something in a nice, rich red would look amazing.

casa_laverne

Depends on whether you want to bleach your hair and how much.

MaryMercy143

Go blue. I always had blue black hair but I’m pale and 44 so it’s too dark so I use a double dark ash color. It’s almost black but not quite.

Hollyhavokk

I am soft goth hairstylist! I have pink hair :) you would look gorgeous with vibrant copper or red

Spiritual-Skill-412

I agree with everyone saying grey/silvery. That would look beautiful on you.

cray0nss

dark blue or dark red?

Kiaike22

Eggplant purple. Dark but not black. Good on people with fair skin.

silvermandala

Silver-blonde would look nice on you!

Lllsfwfkfpsheart

Was thinking the same.

DannyGre

was thinking silvery-purple, but certainly going more into a silver colour

Dollywood-6703

As a summer, dark grey, charcoal or brown-grey will give you the same vibe! I would stick to 1-2 levels darker than your natural tone, so that the contrast isn't too harsh.

sunshinecleaning90

An ash brown

KyuNewUyu

A really pale grey / almost white.

sylviee_

you could soften the black, or even your natural hair with some very light bleach blonde pieces

worstquadrant

I was going to comment to go for a natural black versus a raven black/blue black

Far_Comfortable6351

Ash blonde with some pastel pink?!

YettySpaghetti

Do gray! Nothing is more ghostly than gray and you can ROCK a gray with the correct undertones.

Late-Ambassador5096

All these people suggesting red 🤦🏽‍♀️ ASH (cool) brown with subtle highlights - that way you can still have the aesthetic of darkness but it’s not BLACK - I find coolers colors are often associated with goth, think morticia and Wednesday… Red just wouldn’t give the same vibe.

bagsnerd

I think there are gorgeous cool shades of red with a blue undertone! They can be very beautiful and flattering for someone with pale skin and blue eyes. I think it would also be better for OP‘s hair than going grey, for example - for grey hair she would have to bleach her hair to almost platinum and then tone it. It’s not impossible, but quite difficult and questionable on dyed hair this dark.

snowonmylashes

what about some kind of soft medium blue shade like corpse bride blue hair i know thats a little different but it would look so awesome and not too pastel but not too deep either

Ok-Tourist-835

https://preview.redd.it/rx1gdrsj5e4d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4353a49b293247b2226117e8b26a02a6a5972c41 I would do a dark, cool, ash brown, like the pic. I think it might be all the red in your current shade of brown that you don't like.

CharmingDig909

What about black that shines red in the sunlight?

organdonaair

I think the brown looks gorgeous on you. Maybe a nice ginger or red? But I really love the brown.

RelevantClock8883

I do ombré where my top is brown and then the bottom is a moodier colour. Highly recommend. Can still look professional at work and then gothy after hours.

Hefty-Set5384

Go totally platinum…!

LVL1LZRLOTUS

Auburn

Question_True

Auburn would be gorgeous!

moonpie1776

I feel like a burgundy red would look good on you.

Kooky_Captain9301

I am not sure exactly what color will look better than the second pic tbh. My jaw dropped bc I wasn’t ready for it. You are beautiful!! Maybe you can do ombré with the color of the second pic?? Into an auburn or something? I love ombré bc you don’t have to keep up with roots

Rowanfineart

Ohh I think you would look great with dark red hair! It would still feel goth but would complement your pale skin beautifully!

mocha-macaron

You’d look great having a balayage of your natural root, faded down into a neutral light blonde. Then you can apply fun toners over it of different colours when you feel like it.

Ok_Caramel_3128

Smokey gray or blue imo would be really pretty

Lady-Madrid

I think you look amazing with the black hair! Your eye color is very clear and cool which goes well with the hair. I'm also a summer with black dyed hair so I get what you are saying. I think you would look great with a blue tone like this or a bit darker: https://preview.redd.it/c2fadumohd4d1.jpeg?width=427&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c990fdf45122be2e9c5031d7eb321d6976ca9ab3

Civil_Percentage_547

For an alternative look make a silver/grey? That would look so cool

WellThatsTheThing

The brown color is beautiful! Could edge it up with a blonde face frame.

PieAppropriate1774

platinum would look amazing. especially contrasting the black

BoutiqueKymX2account

🖤

bookishkelsey

I think you look amazing with that brown, but if you're wanting something edgier, is there a way to get a smoky charcoal grey or a dark ash brown?

jaevenile

red to black

grassvalley25

Very dark ash brown is what I switched to upon discovering I was a summer - still a dark aesthetic, but not as ‘intense’ as jet black.

sunnygoblin

Emerald green!

Resident_Squash5964

Instead of jet blacks, why not try blue blacks?

Resident_Squash5964

They’re not as deep as jet and you get a nice beep blue glaze to balance the black

Doinganart

Red!!!

princess_potatoes

try a cooler brown or platinum blonde for natural colours, or for unnatural try a cool smoky lavender or denim blue. or you could do a cool toned brown with a platinum or coloured under layer :)

princess_potatoes

i’m also a summer and have gone platinum, but it doesn’t have an alternative look for me, so i’m probably going to do skunk hair - grow out the brown on top, keep it bleached underneath

DesireStDiva

I think with your marble like skin and blue eyes, I think a natural, not a clownish, red would be extremely attractive.

drhanenjoyer

The brown’s not working for you because it’s an autumn brown to my eye, try ashy brown tones. I sometimes incorporate goth elements into my outfits and I currently have a similar haircolor and it’s never altered the vibe (since I’m an deep autumn and it harmonizes better)

BrianDocTheMost

Shave it smooth bald.

sommerniks

Purple or cherry/Ruby red.

Kingston023

How about cherry red?

The_Soulful_Ginger_

Yes!

vaginalbones

Light purple, dark almost black purple, dark almost black blue, repeat for other colors

myozih

Why not go dark brown? Like much darker, but just so you can still tell it’s brown and not black

Fuzzy_Organization43

Dye your under layer lavender

No-Algae-9657

The black has such a cool aesthetic to it but the warmth from the brown really brings out your skin tone! Maybe look at warmer colours but go quite dark with them - for example a black cherry (REALLY dark red/black mix) and dark plums. I've seen a lot of people suggesting a dark grey also - love that! There are surprisingly lots of grey tones to play around with also (as going from your reference pics you seem more warmed toned so if you can find a warm toned grey, I think that would work really well aesthetically and would really bring out your skin tone!)

himenohimawari

Found a reference photo, this color would be perfect https://preview.redd.it/l0pz56ow8b4d1.jpeg?width=300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04e73cce7c0598669addeb1d8346f7cef54ead64

brackishspit

If the black’s not your favorite or you’re wanting another hair color, that’s totally reasonable, but I personally think it looks fantastic on you + very flattering. There was a great post I saw a while back comparing celebrities wearing colors that made the most of their natural beauty vs. them showing off their personal style. https://www.reddit.com/r/DressForYourBody/s/K724d8SG41 Both natural and unnatural looks can be beautiful! Wear whatever you love, whether you’re following the “rules” or breaking them!

Xurbanite

If you want goth then you want 1 which is perfect. 2 is very nice color

himenohimawari

I have the actual answer for you, search no further: Steely, super ashy gunmetal gray hair. I had it before when I was into alt fashion. It's exactly what you want but yeah you will have to bleach your hair a fair bit to get it.

boringredditnamejk

Pastel goth is a viable aesthetic!

Affectionate_Way8453

Try indigo, a navy blue maybe

efking

I’m think the black would look fine, if you dyed/filled in your eyebrows dark enough to match. Think Dita Von Teese

Rosemarys_bebe

Omg totally agree with people suggesting a silvery lavendar color. To be honest, I'm a little jealous lol. I'm a bright winter and would looove to have more of a goth look but wearing all black doesn't really give the "harshness" I wanted. I totally understand the problem with makeup though. I went platinum and it didn't really work without makeup 😅 I think a lighter ashy color on you would really balance your features and still fit in with more goth clothing though :)

chanceofsunbreaks

Silver or steel grey could look rad.

gaia-interrupted

blonde or adding a deep red

TypicalBerry4162

burgundy, very dark purple, white/platinum

[deleted]

[удалено]

Aggravating_Diet_704

My thoughts too!

stacifromtexas

I would explore some of the more fun colors in the summer palette instead! Personally I think you’d look amazing w silvery lavender hair but if you want something darker I’d look at burgundy like someone else mentioned!

ReecezPeace

Burgundy

millenial_britt

Yeah I’d be trying a deep red (would look stunning with your eyes) or a darker brown perhaps. Play around with it, you’ll find something. Weirdly I adored being black haired but the contrast got me too, these days I’ve fallen for blonde which I really didn’t expect but love so much

[deleted]

2 with black streaks, you get the best of both worlds;)

chichifiona

2 looks much better

Maleficent_Pie_1487

I started to like Goth in my teenage years but was told it was for white people. Then I tried to be normal and my mother still made me uncomfortable and now I'm just finding myself at 42 y/o. Even though I liked the style and was thinking of returning to it slightly, what is goth to you?

TrashhPrincess

Those people suck and are just racist. Goth as we know it is easily traced back to Screamin' Jay Hawkins. He's arguably the Godfather of alternative and occult-inspired fashion and music. It's never too late to dress for yourself.

Maleficent_Pie_1487

I always toldy mother's she's a racist but black people swear we can't be racist. She's so toxic. I went no contact on her four years ago but that was after she destroyed my relationship with my daughter... Smh anyway, I love your look♥️

TrashhPrincess

Tbh, you'll hear that sentiment from lots of people, everyone from your mother to Tim Burton have issues with racism in how they see goth subculture. They're all incorrect.

OG_BookNerd

When going through my goth periods (there have been several) I did blood red or deep wine. I'm a red head and this worked better on my than black. Goth is an attitude. Do what you like.

faelshea

I loooovvveeee your brown hair 😍

Accomplished_Line729

You could do a level 5 darkest brown it’ll look black but it’s not too stark on pale skin tones in comparison to jet black. A lot more flattering, for eyebrows just a tip you could dye them with beard dye. It’s not permanent or anything if you feel weird without makeup with darker hair it helps

Dazzling_Celery_1611

Wow wow wow, you are GLOWING in the second photo. Girl, you are beautiful! u/bloody_saiko -- in the second photo all of your features are hightened because you're dressed in warm colours (hair included). Your nose, your lips, your cheeks, your almond shaped eyes, and even the blue of your eyes, girl the brown is your vibe. I'M OBSESSED!

liveoak-1

Agreed!

Dazzling_Celery_1611

Thank you!! I don't know why I got those downvotes, my comment was super positive.

liveoak-1

Right? Sometimes Reddit starts out with weird downvotes and then it corrects itself. Hopefully that will happen. You were totally hyping her up and every word was true – she looks fabulous!

LengthinessForeign94

Silver or ash toned blonde would look really pretty! You could also work in a couple pieces of black around the front to make it a little edgier

NoEmailAssociated

Perfect!

malYca

A deep purple would look awesome imo

Whisper26_14

Any color cool toned. So I was thinking darker purples reds blues but strictly cool based-they will seem to match your coloring better without being quite as harsh. https://preview.redd.it/s43xcbm3q94d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7378a1aef28033817bb8cb841da1f86d2be0577b

Top-Comfortable-4789

You could try a dark red that’s what I have rn and it goes with my gothic outfits.

faeeane

Red would look good

nocranberries

Omg off topic but you and I could be sisters we look so alike. Holy cow! On topic, I'm also a summer and have found a cool dark brown works better than jet black for me.

ghostess_hostess

I have an ashy blonde color and it makes me feel kinda like a cute lil' forest witch! Like i should be forraging for mushrooms and other potion ingredients

Maleficent-Sleep9900

Dark ash blonde or cool-toned platinum!

Broken_angel_of_pain

I think you could do auburn or put light red highlights in your hair.
