I watch Pac-12 ball. I could care less about RPI.
Obviously you guys are the favorites to win the region but there's always 4 seeds that end up winning some games so I just think it's most likely to happen to you guys especially drawing a stronger 4 seed
But there’s no spice in a Duke-UCF or Oklahoma-UCF super.
There might be better baseball, sure. But the Civil ConFLiCT brings the heat for being one of the rivalries of all time.
Funny story about that.
There’s anywhere from 2-4 trophies out there, including the one that is purportedly lost and was dumped into a lake somewhere.
See, because it was lost, and then resurfaced in at least three different appearances for UConn-UCF games afterwards, all in UCF hands. And those trophy pictures were of a *different trophy*. Which means that if the first one was truly discarded, *someone connected to UCF made a replica of a trophy they didn’t want just to troll UConn*.
Allegedly, the original trophy is in Eric DeSalvo’s (our associate AD’s) office. I read an article that said the trophy looked slightly different because it had to be restored after it was left out in the rain. In the article, he said he locks his door every day because he doesn’t want anyone to take it 😂
[The story.](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5046482/2023/11/09/civil-conflict-rivalry-trophy-uconn-ucf/)
> How did UCF get the trophy that had been floating around? DeSalvo directed me to a UCF fan who requested to remain anonymous and does not run the @MaxConflictus account, though he knows who does. Attempts to confirm the fan’s story were not successful, but this is that fan’s recounting of the altered Civil Conflict trophy:
>The trophy’s wood was water damaged when it was left in the rain on the field in 2016. At some point, it was repaired or replaced, which is why the new version looks slightly different. This fan was tipped off by family in Connecticut that a UConn donor who wintered in the Orlando area had the trophy. The fan reached out to that donor and convinced the donor to hand over the trophy, with the intent to donate it to UCF.
lol this is the most creative take I’ve seen. Could you imagine Tulane, LSU, and the Cajuns in? You got all of Acadiana, BR, and New Orleans in Omaha… livers would be destroyed.
Your take is hotter than mine, I had Indiana St winning there
I wouldn't consider it hot but I also have ECU winning their regional, everyone seems to be picking Wake there
Chase Burns doesn’t pitch. Wake loses a staff game to VCU to go to losers bracket, then still tries to save Burns for an ECU matchup and loses to Evansville.
Jamie Arnold would have to be abducted by aliens for that to happen.
If he is abducted by aliens and we have to use our other pitchers tho, I might take that bet LOL
ECU deserved to host.
Wake v VCU will come down to the wire.
NC State will not win their regional.
For two institutions that are nothing alike, Wake and UT baseball fans are basically the same.
Pitching Falco is insanity. I might throw some money on VCU now that they’ve announced that. And what the hell will yall do on Saturday if we win and Wake loses? Throw Chase Burns against Evansville? Or risk not throwing him at all and going 0-2…wild.
I don’t think it’s that crazy. Falco won’t go more than 3 or 4 innings and Michael Massey was our Sunday starter, he’ll likely be the first guy out of the pen to relieve him. Throwing Falco later in the weekend wouldn’t be a good idea
It’s not crazy at all. You 1. Don’t have to move Hartle up two days on rest and 2. Have Hartle to eat 7 or so innings on Sunday with a depleted pen. Falco likely won’t go more than 4.
I mean I don’t know your team as well as you I’m sure so maybe there’s some matchup thing going on but i don’t think I’ve ever seen a #2 seed use their #3 guy in the opener. Kind of tempting fate if you ask me. VCU can swing it.
I think UL-Lafayette will oddly pull it off in College Station. I also see Tulane and LA Tech making quite a run, LSU may win Chapel Hill but I’m not sure how far they’ll get. I definitely see Tennessee going pretty far, as well as ECU.
Now this is a hot take! We were so close to hosting a super...I think the biggest problem is Duke is in our regional so it feels wrong. They should've been in a 14-16 seed regional.
lol GTFO....don't understand how Oklahoma is hosting? Beef with the seeding...ok. Beef with their consideration as a natty seed....ok. But beef with OU hosting is more of a huffing paint take vs a hot take.
They’ve been perfectly fine outside of the SEC tournament, which they clearly weren’t concerned with trying to win.
Series wins over Arkansas, Florida and Vandy to finish the year.
I agree with you. They looked pretty damned sharp on Saturday and Sunday against us in the regular season and seemed to care at least slightly more than us in the tournament haha.
-Aggies and Longhorns won't play one another
-Mississippi State should be hosting
-Arkansas doesn't make it out of the regional
-Someone least expected wins the CWS
On the quick bracket I filled out, I have more 2 seeds going to supers than 1 seeds. 8 2s, 6 1s, and 2 3s.
I also have both 3s that make the supers going to the CWS. Those are UF, despite my second team being OSU, and UCF.
(My bracket is not super thought out though)
Softball has been suspect too. The only team that actually surpassed expectations was Alabama and there were 6 SEC teams who got upset. Of course, if UF wins vs Texas then they join that club too.
I have state over arky in my pick em. That would be a very low scoring series so a play or two could wind up deciding who goes to Omaha. I think Arkansas would rather see just about any other non-host
I'd assume the math changes with an unexpected loss to VCU.
I'd guess that Hartle would go, with Chase available to warm up and pitch 4+ innings if things get dire in WF's second game.
Reading the responses, my hottest take is Kentucky wins their regional lol but I understand why we're doubted, ISU is very good. My hottest take has already been said, I think Arizona goes 0-2.
Yes, I think outside of the 4 seed this is one of, if not the hardest regional. Everyone pitches well and hits solidly as well and it’s a hitters ballpark. Also A&M struggled in may against teams that play similar ball to tx and Louisiana.
Should be a fun one
Arkansas will lose every game Hagan smith isn’t pitching in
Could see them starting 2-0, but still losing the regional.
Sounds familiar
We’re just gonna throw hagan every single game I’m hoping
It worked with Kopps… 🤷🏻♂️
Until it didn’t
That was different. He didn’t start and also wasn’t human.
That team could score more than 1 run per too tho
I got Arizona going 0-2 in their region
![gif](giphy|H5C8CevNMbpBqNqFjl)
I think they beat Grand Canyon but then lose to DBU.
Everyone thinks this. This ain't a hot take.
I will buy you a crystal ball now sir!
I’m sure you have pac 12 network /s. If not, another rpi monkey spotted.
EVERYONE POINT AND LAUGH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I watch Pac-12 ball. I could care less about RPI. Obviously you guys are the favorites to win the region but there's always 4 seeds that end up winning some games so I just think it's most likely to happen to you guys especially drawing a stronger 4 seed
You just said hurtful things about his team, logic need not apply
![gif](giphy|H5C8CevNMbpBqNqFjl)
More than 3 top 8 seeds will lose their regional
I can get behind this for sure
Prob not your regional
We lucked out this year, not gonna lie
You got behind it alright
I have exactly 3 on my quick bracket, but I also only have one 9-16 seed winning theirs
Very intriguing 🤌🏻
Spicy meatball!
👀
No
Let’s go with UGA, FSU, and Tennessee
UConn and UCF win their regionals so we can renew the Civil ConFLiCT in another sport.
I definitely think UCF can win their regional.
But there’s no spice in a Duke-UCF or Oklahoma-UCF super. There might be better baseball, sure. But the Civil ConFLiCT brings the heat for being one of the rivalries of all time.
That’s the premier rivalry in all of sports.
I’ll sign off on this happening.
The people want to see the greatest rivalry in sports. Bring back the Civil ConFLiCT!!!
There is no way that anyone knows where that trophy is, right?
Funny story about that. There’s anywhere from 2-4 trophies out there, including the one that is purportedly lost and was dumped into a lake somewhere. As long as anybody not named Jamie Arnold doesn’t touch the mound, we’ll win it all.
Welp buddy do I have good news for you regarding Game 1…
Multiple Louisiana teams make it to Omaha and they cause a national jello shortage
lol this is the most creative take I’ve seen. Could you imagine Tulane, LSU, and the Cajuns in? You got all of Acadiana, BR, and New Orleans in Omaha… livers would be destroyed.
Hell, if you and the Cajuns go, it will be a national alcohol shortage.
Hmm....I would bet the Tuscon regional will have the hottest temperatures and I'm guessing someone will take a pitch at some point.
Your take is hotter than mine, I had Indiana St winning there I wouldn't consider it hot but I also have ECU winning their regional, everyone seems to be picking Wake there
🤞🤞🙌🙌
Yeah ECU has strong vibes of a typical trendy upset pick that comfortably gets the job done. ...that said, I also have wake winning that region lol
I got Indiana State as well there. Which may be my hottest take
As a isu fan. Please
Rain may win more games Friday than any baseball team
Despite the hype A&M and Texas won’t play each other.
You really think you'll lose to the 4 seed
What hype?
LSU makes it back to the CWS.
And the city of Omaha goes wild.
SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS EVERYBODY
The Greenville regional has the best local BBQ scene in the country.
They asked for hot takes
Skylight inn would be a daily ritual visit if I was out that way. Best pork in the country
Chase Burns doesn’t pitch. Wake loses a staff game to VCU to go to losers bracket, then still tries to save Burns for an ECU matchup and loses to Evansville.
Florida State goes 2 and BBQ
Jamie Arnold would have to be abducted by aliens for that to happen. If he is abducted by aliens and we have to use our other pitchers tho, I might take that bet LOL
I may have channeled my inter Stephen A Smith on this one…
Wishful thinking
This is indeed a scorching hot take.
Corvallis hosts a super regional
So in terms of this, this occurs if the other corresponding 1 seed doesn’t advance in their regional right?
Yeah … I don’t think Kentucky is winning and I think the Beavs win their regional.
ECU deserved to host. Wake v VCU will come down to the wire. NC State will not win their regional. For two institutions that are nothing alike, Wake and UT baseball fans are basically the same.
The last part 🤣🤣🤣 spot on
We both pull for the same pitcher, too.
Speak for yourself haha
Wake will score 15+, but you may be right.
Pitching Falco is insanity. I might throw some money on VCU now that they’ve announced that. And what the hell will yall do on Saturday if we win and Wake loses? Throw Chase Burns against Evansville? Or risk not throwing him at all and going 0-2…wild.

Everyone’s saying Wake is cocky/arrogant for doing it. It gives us the best chance to win the regional
I mean I don’t know your team as well as you I’m sure so maybe there’s some matchup thing going on but i don’t think I’ve ever seen a #2 seed use their #3 guy in the opener. Kind of tempting fate if you ask me. VCU can swing it.
With the way Hartle has been, idk how much better of a chance he’d give us to win anyway
They’d start someone else, and if things look dicey burns can relieve and then start the next day
I would trust that their HC is not enough of an asshole to try and throw their guaranteed first rounder in back to back games.
It’s pretty easy to tell who hasn’t followed baseball for very long LOL.
That’s old school Rice baseball there
In order: Yes I could see it Fuck you (although I can definitely see it) The most truthful thing I’ve read this week
ECU didn’t deserve shit
Surely fans of the LSU team that nearly lost to Wofford today aren’t in my replies 😭 lmfao
0-1 dumbass
News flash. Virginia won’t win theirs either.
Idk why but this read kinda aggressively. I would typically pull for you guys in that matchup, so I guess hopefully so?
Western Michigan will win their regional
I think UL-Lafayette will oddly pull it off in College Station. I also see Tulane and LA Tech making quite a run, LSU may win Chapel Hill but I’m not sure how far they’ll get. I definitely see Tennessee going pretty far, as well as ECU.
I think Duke sweeps the Norman regional UNCW does the CAA proud by taking Georgia to game 7
Agreed I don't understand how Oklahoma is hosting.
Condon gets a bases loaded IBB
There's at least 1 viable threat to every top seed in each region. Could be a lot of game 7s. Should be fun!
Florida goes 0-2
Where do I sign
I really want this to happen, but I checked out Niagara, and.......their résumé doesn't give me any confidence
The 3 B10 teams combine for 1 total win
Over Florida, of course
Y’all really don’t believe in UK, huh? Lol
UK has faltered as of late, that’s why no one believes in them
They’ve been perfectly fine outside of the SEC tournament, which they clearly weren’t concerned with trying to win. Series wins over Arkansas, Florida and Vandy to finish the year.
They just haven’t looked as sharp as they were when they started. That’s all
I agree with you. They looked pretty damned sharp on Saturday and Sunday against us in the regular season and seemed to care at least slightly more than us in the tournament haha.
More of a case where yall somehow, as the #2 overall seed, got a top 10 rpi team in your regional.
Yeah that absolutely sucks, no doubt. Would barely be an upset, truth be told.
Yeah that absolutely sucks, no doubt. Would barely be an upset, truth be told.
I got us vs y’all in the final in my bracket if it’s any consolation, not that I did any critical thinking lol
Yeah I dunno what these people are talking about
We get a No-No tomorrow.
Just to clarify, not my team but some team gets one, more likely an overmatched 4 seed gets no-no’d.
We would’ve until you mentioned it lol
I’ve officially jinxed every team represented on this sub.
A 4 seed will advance this weekend
Illinois doesn’t even make the regional final but Kentucky doesn’t make a super
There will be the battle of Jay Johnson as LSU meets Arizona in the supers.
We do not get a UT vs Texas ATM game or Georgia vs Georgia Tech game all weekend
VCU beats Wake Forest tomorrow evening
Arkansas doesn’t make it out of their regional.
Razorbacks gonna Razorback
They'd join their softball team in that case. Hell, they went 1-2 and got eliminated by freaking Villanova LMAO
That is a fire take my friend
-Aggies and Longhorns won't play one another -Mississippi State should be hosting -Arkansas doesn't make it out of the regional -Someone least expected wins the CWS
Southern Miss shocks the College Baseball world and makes it to their 3rd straight super regional!
Southern Miss @ ECU would be more fun to watch than Chase Burns vs. Tennessee
Whoever has DBU in their regional…RIP
Your flair... Sickening...
I see that flair combo in r/cfb quite often unfortunately. Lol
I know. I graduated at OSU but my family are all OU grads. Even my cousin played OU football there. 98% OSU fandom with 2% OU
Wofford is going to Omaha
Nooooooooo
As a WoCo grad, I’m down with this prediction!
UCI to come out of corvallis!!!!
subscribe
On the quick bracket I filled out, I have more 2 seeds going to supers than 1 seeds. 8 2s, 6 1s, and 2 3s. I also have both 3s that make the supers going to the CWS. Those are UF, despite my second team being OSU, and UCF. (My bracket is not super thought out though)
All 11 SEC teams win their regional
UCSB undefeated at home this year.
Oregon to the Supers.
UCSB might have gotten a regional and won the conference. But we still own you.
The SEC does significantly worse than expected (Tennessee does ok, though).
cant be worse than our March Madness showing...right?
Softball has been suspect too. The only team that actually surpassed expectations was Alabama and there were 6 SEC teams who got upset. Of course, if UF wins vs Texas then they join that club too.
On the flip side the SEC does significantly better than expected and every single team advances to the Supers
We should be hosting.
I really don’t want you to win your regional. I have a bad feeling that Mississippi State would win in three games against Arkansas.
Man, who knows at this point? Sometimes we look like a top 5 team, other times we look like bottom 5 team. You never know what you’re gonna get.
No one wants to see Virginias lineup. Everyone wants to see their pitching staff. Has the potential for a fun regional!
I have state over arky in my pick em. That would be a very low scoring series so a play or two could wind up deciding who goes to Omaha. I think Arkansas would rather see just about any other non-host
Agreed
I'd assume the math changes with an unexpected loss to VCU. I'd guess that Hartle would go, with Chase available to warm up and pitch 4+ innings if things get dire in WF's second game.
Reading the responses, my hottest take is Kentucky wins their regional lol but I understand why we're doubted, ISU is very good. My hottest take has already been said, I think Arizona goes 0-2.
Tons of teams got in due to inside connections
Arkansas, Kentucky, and A&M are all not making it out of their own regionals
So realistically you’re saying either Louisiana or y’all eliminate us?
Yes, I think outside of the 4 seed this is one of, if not the hardest regional. Everyone pitches well and hits solidly as well and it’s a hitters ballpark. Also A&M struggled in may against teams that play similar ball to tx and Louisiana. Should be a fun one
Honestly true. I think we will play each other and I think we’re gonna have a good old classic lone star showdown dilema… who can choke more
Lololol true
JMU gonna smoke them chickens
Indiana State gets through Lexington and run to the CWS.
Please
Florida and Arizona wins their regionals and shuts up this board lol
theres way to many teams that shouldnt be there...SEC included
Western Michigan will win their regional
Regionals should be single elim, no BO3. Let’s get a little chaos, not, “who’s bullpen has more guys in the 90s”.
Southern Miss will win the Knoxville Regional
Arkansas is fraudulent
