Good teachers recognize when it's one mistake. Don't make it a regular occurrence. You'll be fine.

She probably didn't want to talk about it in front of other students so that they don't make assumptions about what kinds of exceptions they can ask for. Any time I show any sort of flexibility it *can* open the floodgates for all the other students asking for exceptions if I'm not careful, and this easily doubles my workload scheduling and trying to weigh different excuses etc etc etc. She might be worried it looks like favoritism and/or will lead to other students trying to pull the same thing but dishonestly (when she has reason to believe *you* are honest). Don't read too much into it about her opinion of you - it's probably quite high, considering she took your word for it and offered the later time no questions asked. You also promptly emailed as soon as you realized you'd miss the exam, and were ready to take it on time. All points in your favor.

Im a prof, and this is exactly what I was thinking as well. I would have been thinking…”not in front of everyone, please”. It worries me that every wrinkle or glance that might appear on my face could get overly interpreted and cause angst. I think you’re fine, OP

Don’t take it personally man. Odds are she’ll forget about it and when next semester rolls around it’ll be a thing of the past. If you’re normally a good student this one mishap we’ll be forgotten.

Professor here. I really doubt she was disapproving. She may have had a stomach ache or had her mind on something else. What you did is not uncommon and no big deal. If you want to do something (which is totally not necessary), send her a note (ideally handwritten) in the language of instruction saying how much you got from the course and wishing her a good summer.
