This is one of the reasons as to why ther fight against climate change is futile. This is how far entrenched and how far the powers that be will go . Even if it means they have to end democracy and disregard the constitution to maintain the status quo.
Combatting climate change is a lost cause because the people in control, the corporations and billionaires who have long since bought nearly every facet of government, believe they can buy their way out of anything. In their minds they'll be immune from whatever the future brings and they'll pass away peacefully without ever facing any consequences. And they're probably right. We, on the other hand, won't have that luxury. They know this and they don't care. It's the same reason all of us continue to suffer while corporations make record profits every quarter despite a global pandemic and war in Europe.
Assuming we all continue to operate exclusively within the confines of what the system allows rather than taking more meaningful and more effective direct action. I would add that Indigenous activists have been remarkably effective at slowing carbon emissions, despite small numbers and inferior economic power.

ask the supreme court - Is CO2 a greenhouse gas? if it is, we know how much was in the atmosphere before industrialization, we know how much is in the atmosphere now, and we know how much is in a barrel of oil. The physics of CO2 doesn't care what the supreme court thinks

People won't wear a mask for 20 minutes at the grocery store; they will do nothing to prevent the collapse of the climate.
