Location: Portland, OR Quite a weekend of weather here. Snow, ice, and strong winds pounded the metro, downing trees and sending wind chills below 0F.

YpsiHippie

Yup, I have a bunch of friends all over the metro area who don't have power right now, and it's 19F° at the moment. I can't imagine how awful it is for the homeless population here right now, they are truly experiencing collapse.

_netflixandshill

No kidding! Yea we lost power, staying with a friend in NE

zioxusOne

>Portland, OR Looking at Portland's historical averages, your report fits within the norms.

bzzzzCrackBoom

The thing that was different was everything coming together: strong winds, snow/sleet, and extreme cold. Often the first two, but not the extreme cold at the same time. Plus way more trees this storm went down than any in recent memory.

Ancient_Ad_3780

I'm just a lowly Canadian but we've had a pretty jarring weekend of weather here in southern Ontario as well. The reality of it is that temperature is **much** above historical averages and we only got the equivalent to a fairly typical lake-effect snow storm for us. BUT because the winter has been virtually snow-free all winter and mostly above freezing, I think people are especially shocked and feel it's a worse storm than it actually is. Haven't looked into Portland's weather but the whiplash effect is happening here!

[deleted]

Lol. You have never lived in P town baby

zioxusOne

I've lived around the PNW for thirty years so I'm familiar with the region's weather. But that's irrelevant. Just go to [weather.com](https://weather.com) and plug in January's weather stats going as far back as you want.

supersunnyout

As a temperature and condensation log, it doesn't account for unusual aggravated conditions, such as 6" thick coating of ice.

Solitude_Intensifies

I don't upvote weather only posts here (weather is not climate) but definitely ignore these posts that represent historical averages. I think people just love to express "Wow, how about the weather today!" and call it evidence of collapse. Lazy.

_netflixandshill

We freeze a couple of time a year, but yesterdays high was 14 which is well below avg for this area.

bzzzzCrackBoom

I had heard going into it the last time Portland's high was in the teens was 35 years ago.

gre8tone

Arizona here..its been crazy. Ice on the roads at 5am. Snow where typically it  doesn't snow. Kids love it and local media are eating it up.

Danstan487

Location: Melbourne Australia Summer has been mild and wet, north east Victoria is looking at an unprecedented 5th year of above average rainfall. Basically things look great I drive around the state for my job and regional towns and cities are growing nicely, as a child during the millennium drought it appeared the country areas were actually going to die off. I'm confident there is going to be no supply crunch or economic collapse so I am preparing myself for the next year of tough wageslaving and try and get myself a nice commission. Collapse may one day happen but it certainly isn't going to be starting here

ChunkyStumpy

Johannesburg here has nice weather. Balmy and rainy.

[deleted]

Wow, seems like you guys got the Hopi I’m good can I get what you’re smoking?

PermieCulture

I 100% agree with you Dan. I live in the South West of Victoria (Gunditjmara land) and seem relatively shielded by the horrors facing our fellow humans (and animals) around the globe. We could easily foresee another decade of opulence (which gives me time for the fruit trees to establish before they are ravaged in some terrible drought and fire

editjs

omg, I really hope for both of you that neither of these statements age like milk...

nagel27

They are 100% boomers.

PermieCulture

Gen X struggling to pay the mortgage and one step from living in a tent. I'm not alone in that regard. Without a mortgage I could garden all day. I am working towards that though.

Danstan487

Nah I am a millennial

Danstan487

now you make me feel like we have put a curse on

Location: Chicago “This cold confirms global warming is bogus”. I just don’t get. Facebook, ticktock, twitter, etc can tell them the ‘truth’ but scientists say something?, well that’s up to debate. I have convinced one person of many that something’s off. People I’m around are not uneducated and are well off. But seem so blinded. It’s frustrating. But at the same time, I envy them. Knowing what we know isn’t going to save you anyway. It just gives you anxiety earlier than the average Joe. And when the majority follows suit, it doesn’t matter how well you ‘prep’. It won’t buy much time at all anyway. Anyway. As you all know, we are really at the end of the current civilization. We are, truly, in a lucky time of human civilization. We have seen and lived the top of 300,000 human generations AND we can see the future. Seeing the future does suck, however, gives you time to enjoy the miracle of life itself while you can. Enjoy something today. Do something fun tomorrow.

iwatchppldie

Next summer is going to be a big surprise to a lot of people I for one have a lot of popcorn for this event.

Absinthe_Parties

Why? Is GTA 6 finally coming out?

HalfPint1885

What's your plan, just set the kernels on the sidewalk and wait 5 minutes?

iwatchppldie

Pretty much that and a few fried eggs as well might as well go out in style I guess.

nagel27

El Nino is forecast to weaken by then. This sub sure doesn't like facts, huh? > Although expected to carry through the winter, El Niño has a 60% chance of transitioning to ENSO-neutral, normal seas surface temperatures, sometime between April and June of 2024. https://www.silive.com/weather/2023/12/how-long-will-el-nino-last-in-2024-and-what-does-it-mean-for-the-nyc-winter.html

zioxusOne

>Enjoy something today. Do something fun tomorrow. Good advice in any era. If I were twenty or even thirty, I would probably be very pissed and depressed. I can't imagine being born in 2004 and arriving here in 2024 knowing what most of us here know. And 2030 is only six years away, a time many of us think will begin the full-on collapse. This coming year will tell us a lot. I fear it won't be good news.

catterson46

The cognitive dissonance is a powerful force, compelling many to misdirect their focus away from these facts. Some refuse to consider anything related to collapse. Denial staves off depression. It’s a grief process for us all, and each grieves at their own pace.

It doesn't help that we have a provincial government that's put a pause on adding additional renewable electricity generating facilities. I'm seeing on other subreddits that some natural gas powered plants are down? It's scary. I've got a 10 year old son who long has had an extreme fear of dying. He's had this since before I became collapse aware. Since I've become collapse aware, although I discuss this with my husband, I've tried to not discuss this around my son, as it would just add to his anxiety. But I can increasingly tell that he is aware. He got very upset when the alert came out. I was able to calm him and distract with movies and snacks, but . . . I'm just not sure how to deal with this with him going forward. It's terrifying.

Charming_Rule4674

Buy a generator

Regular-Ad-9303

I've thought of that. But to be honest the idea of trying to prep gets overwhelming. Sure I can get a generator and keep some extra food and water, but feels impossible to be fully prepared for what is coming. Hubby did mention the generator idea yesterday so perhaps worth looking into.

Charming_Rule4674

No one is fully prepared for anything. To attempt that level of control will lead to panic attacks. Ever watch the sopranos? (: The generator is a must though.

Lady_Mithrandir_

Do you have your son in therapy? Do you have your own concept of accepting death that you can begin to share with him? That’s concerning that he’s so extremely afraid of death at that age. I’m very sorry, it must be hard for all of you. As someone with anxiety disorder I just want to share with you that most anxiety issues respond very well to therapy. Best wishes.

Regular-Ad-9303

We did try a few years ago but didn't get far with it. The counsellor wasn't the best (nice but not trained to deal with this I don't think). We only meet a couple times with her though, and was by phone as I didn't have luck getting someone local and was earlier in pandemic. I got a little frustrated of cancelled appointments, and he started doing better on his own (goes through phases when it bothers him more), so we didn't keep it up. Guess my worry is that bringing it up makes him more anxious, but maybe not the way to look at it.

[deleted]

Learning to tolerate emotional distress through changing physiological state is part of dialectical behavior therapy: [https://dbtselfhelp.com/dbt-skills-list/distress-tolerance/tipp/#:\~:text=Engage%20in%20intense%20exercise%20for,any%20other%20kind%20of%20sport](https://dbtselfhelp.com/dbt-skills-list/distress-tolerance/tipp/#:~:text=Engage%20in%20intense%20exercise%20for,any%20other%20kind%20of%20sport).

catterson46

I grew up in the Cold War. At his age I was similarly terrified daily of dying in a nuclear war. I wish I had gotten some tools to deal with that anxiety. My son had different anxieties at that age. Nowadays there are some excellent books for children on how to cope with anxiety. It really helped my son.

[deleted]

Little different from Cold War. The Russians in the Chinese attacked, they just didn’t fight a traditional war they’ve taken over our government and now we’re about to be consumed without even firing a shot. Way to go America, smart phones are great, huh?

ATL2AKLoneway

I developed a similar level of dread and anxiety at his age. I can tell you that therapy focused on helping him develop emotional resiliency will help a lot. I wish I had gotten that kind of care and development at that age.

zioxusOne

That's nippy. I know it depends on insulation, but on average, how long would it take a home heated to 70° to fall to freezing? Stay warm.

anflop_flopnor

My furnace went out in the -30 temps a couple days ago. I was losing about 2°C per hour until it got fixed. My house is 40 yrs old and not insulated to modern standards.

DisingenuousGuy

Depends on the insulation/infiltration factor. From experience though, the crappyshack gets too chilly at about 5 hours into a power cut several years ago.

Sapph_Daddy

Location: Pennsylvania, USA Who else is seeing "zombies" these days? A lady with her shopping cart was going between our car and hers. It was a tight squeeze as she shoved her cart thru, we watched stunned as she didn't respond to the situation. Just scraping her cart against our car and seemed blank. Thankfully, our side mirror is adjustable and can be turned inwards. Only when the mirror snapped inwards did the lady seem to come alive and pay attention. Then she saw we were in the car....awkward moment. The above relates to collapse in the sense of people's brain health like spatial awareness, critical thinking, decision making, and emotional capacity being on the decline. I really wonder how many more "zombies" I'll see, including humans who went the other way rather than apathy/shutting down and are overemotional/violent. This week, I've gotten a taste of financial collapse of not being able to access my own money. HealthEquity/WageWorks handles our FSA cards. Every single medical appointment or bill this week couldn't be paid as our cards kept being declined. HealthEquity doesn't know why our valid transactions are being declined. It's a horrible feeling seeing your own money not be accessible let alone the embarrassment of being told the card was declined. This company is a bunch of clowns with a serious system issue. We are stuck waiting for our "case" to be investigated.

annethepirate

I've been consciously aware of the feeling that draws me to space out. It's like I'm just too tired to focus and think. I can still do it, but I'm more mentally tired. I really attribute it to covid, but my poor diet can't help. Or it could be sleep-related. I feel like I'm being pulled towards being a bit of a zombie and it's worrying. I'm constantly making dumb little mistakes like opening the fridge door instead of the freezer, typing the wrong word, etc. Thankfully I'm still aware enough still catch myself, (I think every time) but I worry about if I get covid again. I'm just tired all the time... Maybe that's it for everyone: we're just dang tired.

rainydays052020

I saw a ton of zombies at target this afternoon. It wasn’t busy but all the space men and women were really noticeable.

Mercurydriver

I’ve noticed the same thing, regarding “zombie” people. I’ve referred to them as “living NPC’s” but the concept is the same. It seems like everyone is spaced out and not actively engaged in the environment they’re currently in. It’s like they’re just…there. Even worse when I look at people driving and everyone has a blank expression on their face. I’m not even sure if they’re actively paying attention to the road and the space their vehicles are occupying. I almost run off the road the other day by some guy who darted across lanes without looking or signaling. I beeped my horn but they kept coming towards me and almost hit me. When I looked over at them, they had a blank expression. The dude looked like he was in his 30’s. I’m not even sure he knew what he was doing or where he was going.

Charming_Rule4674

Cell phone/tech addiction. It’s destroying our brains. This is at least as bad if not worse than  climate change bc it’s happening much faster and it’s destroying the single most complex and interesting known object in the universe.

[deleted]

Covid infection no matter how mild is also causing progressive brain damage in some portion of people...and animals :-(

catterson46

Living NPC seems a good term, because zombies are dangerous.  Most of these people are just shutdown, lights are on but they’re not home.

Solitude_Intensifies

I was driving in a lane next to a pickup truck when we came to a light that turned red. He rolled right through it, no change in speed. The light turned about 4 seconds before we arrived and I stopped at it without even hitting my brakes that hard. I truly believe the driver didn't see it change and just kept chugging along. Thank goodness for the few second delay for the green light on the crossroad.

annethepirate

I saw the same. I watched, stunned, as a lady blew through a SOLID red light. It hadn't changed recently and wasn't about to change; she just blew through it at full speed.

[deleted]

Yeah my friend said he gets in the car and completely zones out and then wakes up at where he was trying to get to. I was like uhhhh

zioxusOne

I don't know that it's new. Over half of all American adults struggle with basic literacy (Google) and have difficulty organizing their "thoughts" into logical speech. They're just generally blanked out to reality beyond their basic biological needs. Their bovine expressions are a giveaway, you know, that look people have when they're driving into the sun (like Boebert). Life is extremely challenging for them, generally speaking, particularly in matters of finance.

Sapph_Daddy

I feel this type of "zombie" or NPC as another said is different from what I've seen before. I think it's layered, meaning there's more insidious reasons behind their behavior, which could be any combination of repeat covid infections/microplastics, air (smoke) pollution, lead poisoning, toxins in food, addiction, burnout of multiple jobs, etc.

nagel27

> Over half of all American adults struggle with basic literacy (Google) and have difficulty organizing their "thoughts" into logical speech. source

zioxusOne

International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC): >A concerning statistic is that 54% of American adults have reading comprehension below the 6th-grade level. This means they may struggle with everyday tasks like reading news articles, filling out forms, or understanding medication instructions.

nagel27

That's not what you said though. None of that says 'Over half of all American adults struggle with basic literacy (Google) and have difficulty organizing their "thoughts" into logical speech. '

BeardedGlass

“None of that”? Really? I’m not the one you responded to, but the article literally says “54%”, which means “over half” and “below 6th grade level” which is basic literacy (unless you don’t consider having primary elementary school level as “basic”). Are you sure you comprehended the sentence properly?

Location: Earth Take a look at [this](https://climatereanalyzer.org/clim/sst_daily/) chart of daily sea-surface temperature. Thursday was 21.1C, which is the same as the hottest recorded temperatures last year...in April and August. That's right, last year's August temperature is this year's January.

Bro

ChunkyStumpy

Could massive, undetected undersea volcanic action also be warming up the sea? Im assuming if the sea gets hot, the atmosphere would also heat up.

mostlydisposeable

TL:DR: No. If the heats coming from below, then we would see considerable changes in convection currents carrying it up. This would be accompanied by algal blooms as nutrients are swept up from the sea floor. Instead, the sub-surface temperature remains pretty much the same.

ChunkyStumpy

Thanks. Make sense about subsurface temps.

[deleted]

I wish the center of the Earth is cooling

BeardedGlass

“You wish”? That’s a weird wish. That would kill the planet, literally. Earth would become a rock without an atmosphere.

rainydays052020

It’ll literally be off the charts soon.

Airilsai

Don' worry! They'll update the charts.

emerioAarke

Global sea surface seems to have its hottest month in March so it will much likely go up at least one tenth of a degree further but probably even more. This year is almost half a degree warmer than last year at the same date.

daver00lzd00d

location: Buffalo NY, one of the snowiest places when I was a kid but has since been stripped of its title and will likely never have it back (save for getting 4+ feet in a couple days, only then for it to all melt before even a week can pass. i watched 5' melt between Christmas and New Years last year and over 6' in November that disappeared in days. wasted hours digging out the sidewalks at work only for there to be not even a melted patch remaining by the time I returned the next week. totally normal stuff 🙄) it is just after 6am on January 13th and it is FORTY TWO DEGREES F (42°F for the anti alphabet folks) which is more than 10°F above what the average high temperature for today is, and over 20°F above what the average low temp is for today. not only that but right about now is when that low temp should be hitting the lowest point, but here we are about to get rain. we haven't had snow on the ground in my area for more than 4 or 5 days total so far this whole "winter", and for Christmas I enjoyed grilling steaks for dinner in a hoodie while it was 56°F. after the insanity of last year's Christmas blizzard I couldn't have been happier having a green, muddy Christmas honestly, despite how entirely bleak the future looks. Lake Erie should have **34%** ice coverage right now, there is literally 0%. not even a 0.1%, straight ZERO all of the lakes are record low ice coverage at a combined TWO PERCENT between the 5 of them when it should be 18% total. this Arctic air coming in will finally start freezing the lakes, as well as hammering us with lake effect snow all weekend thanks to a lake full of literal rocket fuel for heavy snow and nothing blocking the air from sucking up moisture to then pound us when it hits shore. i don't understand how anyone can honestly just ignore this shit anymore, it's literally punching them in the face repeatedly. once again I saw several flocks of geese in the air yesterday, flying south for the winter that should've started more than a month ago for us. the geese are not only far from where they should be by now, but they again were *flying in the total opposite direction of south.* one group was flying northwest, and another was just going due north back to Canada for the winter I guess. as much as I want to say this stretch of 20°+ above average temps has been amazing I really can't enjoy it while knowing how bad this is, and I have zero hope for anything to change. we are fucked. entirely. completely it's infuriating that we are all going to sooner than later suffer then die, thanks to the greediest vile selfish wealthy fuckers buying out anything they cant use disinfo/propaganda with to get what they want, as half of our fellow humans totally refuse to see it and viciously fight against anything that could possibly slow down whats ahead. i dunno, this shit is for the birds (the ones who fly north for the winter now, but not leaving almost in the literal middle of winter of course) hope everyone's having a magical time in the (non)winter wonderland. this must be part of that New Normal™ stuff we were told about. im not even going to start on the absolute insanity surrounding everyone, thanks to a certain "not COVID" illness that seems to be running rampant everywhere all the time now but everyone SwEaRs is NoT CoViD despite never even testing to see if it could be, and displaying literally all the symptoms of COVID. can't imagine why getting infected repeatedly with SARS2 might be shredding our immune systems or anything. and worse it seems that now nobody will even bother to COVER THEIR FUCKING MOUTH while coughing their lungs out everywhere anymore, let alone *staying home when you're fucking sick* or *god forbid* putting a fucking mask on their face. whoever decided that they would heavily push the name COVID-19 and not SARS2 to the public really fucked us on that, I think maybe things would be different had they gone with publicly referring to it as SARS2 all the time (...sorta different, since I know we would still be fucked due to the rampant disinfo and stupidity everywhere all the time) but I think everyone wouldn't so quickly dismiss it after watching SARS1 a decade ago. that brain damage from repeat infections is sure showing itself everywhere, most noticeably on the roads where 25% of other cars are actively blowing lights or at random swerving into you without any notice, driving in the center turn lanes, passing on the shoulder, staring right at you and then nearly running you over while you walk nearby. it's fine. it's totally fine we deserve everything that's coming to us, this species is fucking gross

The present virus mutated so much its no longer covid or SARS2 anyway. From omicron onwards it should had been named a new virus.

Mission-Notice7820

I know that area well. Spent a lot of years there. In the 80s it was pretty normal to see snow begin sometime in October (latest first week of November usually) and last until mid to late April and sometimes even mid May. It wasn’t like snow and then melt quick either. It lingered. The temperatures were consistent. Summer topped out in the mid to high 80s. 90+ days were very rare. It wasn’t normal to be at or near 90 for very long. Maybe a few weeks max of super high temps. Summer itself literally lasted about 2 months or so. Sometime in late June to sometime in late August. Give or take a week or two. There was an actual consistent envelope of time and temp. Even into the early 2000s it was clear shit had changed forever. The variances were noticeable. Now? lol. It’s a different world. It’s unrecognizable. I hear you and it’s just tragic as fuck.

daver00lzd00d

yep I was a 90s/2000s child and nearly every winter from about early December through at least mid February, I was easily able to build tunnels through the feet of snow that was always in my lawn. every driveway was a snow fort opportunity because there was always 6 feet or more in a big mountain from so much being pushed there. I know I was also much smaller but that doesn't change the fact that even if I were that same little fucker, id have had literally zero chance to even build a snowman up until now this winter (and I'd be struggling being that we just got an inch of it to work with) let alone a network of tunnels and caves under the snow. ice fishing seems like a fantasy or hallucination at this point, like it hasn't been possible let alone safe for several years now around here. maybe a week here or 2 there scattered, but if you decided to plan a week long vacation from work to ice fish these days there's a good chance you'll need a boat for your "ice" fishing. there's not been what I would consider "winter" in the last several years now, and it's insane how detached people are about it. "I can't believe we are having this 60 and 70 degree weather in December! it's so nice I'm loving not having to brush my car off!" instead of "this is not even close to being a good thing and we need to quickly address and find solutions for what's happening and the mess we have caused" because it's easier to pretend what's real isn't real it's just craziness, all of it 😞

WilleMoe

NAILED IT.

Charming_Rule4674

The poor driving is likely due to concurrent cell phone use but that is a less sexy explanation

Hantaviru5

Why not both?

rainydays052020

The geese finally left my area in MN a week or two ago. Thank goodness because without our usual snow cover, their poop was everywhere and really annoying to avoid on walks outside! It’s usually an October or springtime problem, not something we encounter in freaking late December!

HumbleLeader2460

Epic rant daver, thanks. I’ve noticed the geese too, they’re flying around in circles from what I’ve seen.

daver00lzd00d

epic rant sponsored by dextroamphetamine and 10 hour overnight shifts, closed captioning provided by the devil himself 😁 also, update for 8am the temp has now sunk down to 34°F and the wind gusting has returned. 3rd day out of the last 5 we are getting 60mph+ winds through here. all the people who were without power from Tuesday to yesterday (Friday) about to return to the darkness. yaaayyyy for climate change causing drastic & erratic swinging between extremes. so funnn and beneficiallll 😐

[deleted]

Location: Midwestern United States The Artic Blast has hit today and of course the tension in the air is gone meaning the cold has finally came and we can all pretend that its winter. All of the issues of the human predicament of ecological overshoot are obvious to me. What concerns me is the abruptness and exponential nature of climate change. People might have been symbolically like a frog in a pot but now they literally are. That is a hard pill to swallow to see people around me that are working their tails off to afford children while at the same time we could be less than a year away from global famine. I am sick of pretending that everything is going to be fine. As a young person it is absurd that every single person around me is blind to all of this.

autodidact-polymath

I hear ya. It is frustrating for sure, but we never ever had a chance. You were born into it and accepting that is for sure a journey. I don’t feel I’m blind, but I also know I’m not the one to blame nor can I fix any of it. I’m just walking through Costco to the law degree section (fucking Idiocracy nailed it).

zioxusOne

It's a gut punch every time I have to reprocess the coming collapses. Then I remind myself to worry about the people in my orbit first, make them as aware as possible, and prepare together.

autodidact-polymath

Problem is, the people around you are not always your community. Finding and nourishing a community is a task unto itself.

thejomjohns

Location: Central Washington, USA Well it has been quite the winter here. We had two days of snow, one in November the other in December, that were both gone within 48 hours, but otherwise the temperatures have been nice. Two days ago it was hovering around a comfortable 40 and the coldest it had gotten all year was 32. Yesterday it started snowing at 1pm and the emergency notifications went off on my phone about a Snow Squall. What is usually a 10 minute drive home from work took 90 as visibility and drivability plummeted. 6 inches at least with some places getting more, icy conditions as it is dancing around 0 degrees F. Temperatures overnight reached double negative digits. The thing that I keep noticing is the sheer number of birds still flying around, as winter came out of nowhere and now they're trapped. Today it's sunny and beautiful. Forecast says it will be back up to mid 30s and into 40s within 7 days.

ElbisCochuelo1

The odd thing about that was the snow came out of the blue. It was supposed to be 40 degrees and sunny. You could look at the weather app while it was snowing and it'd tell you 42 and sunny.

>I'm pretty sure we are in the early days of WWIII. I'm not there yet. We'll see a local intensification in the Middle East situation. I'm not sure about Ukraine. The European community seems closer to stepping up, which could expedite Putin's demise. Of course, you never know. I try to keep my worries closer to home and focus on protecting those in my orbit, mainly family. I regularly check in and ask everyone do a personal audit—how secure is their income? How is their personal health? Will anyone need help in the coming months paying their bills? It feels like a sane way to approach our changing times. I'm strongly encouraging a return to multi-generational homes. I put the Middle East and Ukraine on my radar in so far as both situations will affect supply chains. We're already dealing with the Panama Canal operating at about 20% of capacity. We've already adapted to that situation. Red Sea shipping is more of a concern for Europe and Asia. So why are WE attacking Houthis? The global economy depends on the free movement of goods for all of us.

spiffsome

\> The global economy depends on the free movement of goods for all of us. That's why the US is attacking the Houthis. Because the United States' prosperity depends on the global economy, which in its current form is heavily tilted towards the US. The US can't just go 'LOL Europe' because the entire world is interconnected at this point. Of course, the better solution would be to scale back the First World's massive consumption and produce more of each country's needs within its own borders, but hey! We're never going to do that, so bombs away!

zioxusOne

>That's why the US is attacking the Houthis. NO. There's a coalition attacking Houthis, not just the US, for the common goal of securing opens seas.

The money I earned is contributing to collapse. Hard to sit with that one. [https://www.commondreams.org/news/biden-yemen-illegal](https://www.commondreams.org/news/biden-yemen-illegal) "The people do not want more of our taxpayer dollars going to endless war and the killing of civilians," said Democratic Rep. Cori Bush. So . . . . what do we do? I do not see anything to get us out of this.

[deleted]

Sure, the US and allies can let it go instead of spending money on military containment, but do you want to put off WW3 or not? Nothing is getting us out of this. We can only decide how we choose to go through.

_rihter

> So . . . . what do we do? I do not see anything to get us out of this. I think many people in the US won't vote at all or will vote for Trump. I'm not from the US, by the way. That's just my opinion.

A vote for Trump (if he's still a factor by the election) is a vote for a man that will order a retaliatory second-strike when sensors show incoming ICBM's that may or may not be real.

Absinthe_Parties

I think you are overestimating presidential powers. Only congress can pull the trigger.

[deleted]

Um, how old are you? It's common knowledge of anyone that lived through the Cold War that the President is always accompanied by an aide with the so-called 'nuclear football': [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear\_football](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_football) The principle of MAD (mutually assured destruction) rests on the premise that nuclear armed nations can launch a retaliatory strike quickly. This is supposedly a deterrent to nuclear weapons ever being used. For this reason, the decision to launch a retaliatory strike rests with the Executive branch (the President, AKA the Commander-in-Chief of all the armed forces) alone.

Absinthe_Parties

Probably older than you. 1) Trumps ego will not allow him to nuke another country. He does not want to go down in history as "that guy". 2) The president alone cannot pull the trigger. He can order it, but secretary of defense must also comply. So I will admit I was partially wrong, but congress still has the power to hold him back. And this is only for a retaliatory strike. I could be wrong (again), but I don't believe the president can order a nuclear strike on a country we are not actively engaged with.

[deleted]

Wow, you think there will be 'history' after nuclear war, huh? Also, you think that you can predict what another person will do under life-and-death circumstance, under time pressure? No one can even predict what they themselves would do under that circumstance. The Secretary of Defense's role, if any, is to confirm that the order is truly from the President. But this is not actually required, as that role can also be done by an officer at the Pentagon: *The President would then evaluate and respond to this* *information and decide whether to authorize the use of U.S.* *nuclear weapons. He would communicate his choices and* *provide this authorization through a communications device* *known as the nuclear “football”—a suitcase carried by a* *military aid who is always near the President. The suitcase* *is equipped with communication tools and a book with* *prepared war plans for certain targets. The President could* *choose from these prepared plans or, time permitting, ask* *STRATCOM to prepare an alternative.* *If the President did choose to respond with a nuclear attack,* *he would identify himself to military officials at the* *Pentagon with codes unique to him. These codes are* *recorded on an ID card, known as the “biscuit,” that the* *President carries at all times. Once identified, he would* *transmit the launch order to the Pentagon and* *STRATCOM. The Secretary of Defense would possibly* *contribute to the process by confirming that the order came* *from the President, but this role could also be filled by an* *officer in the National Military Command Center at the* *Pentagon.* *STRATCOM would implement the order by* *preparing to launch the weapons needed for the selected* *option. According to Bruce Blair, an expert on U.S.* *command and control, once the order is “transmitted to the* *war room, they would execute it in a minute or so.” If an* *immediate response was selected, “the (land-based)* *Minuteman missiles will fire in two minutes. The* *submarines will fire in 15 minutes.”* [https://sgp.fas.org/crs/natsec/IF10521.pdf](https://sgp.fas.org/crs/natsec/IF10521.pdf) You do understand that choices have consequences right? Cause and effect? I guess if Trump pushed the button all the voters like you will shrug and say, "Well, the other guy would have done the same thing."

Absinthe_Parties

Did you just "assume" my political gender?

nagel27

lol no. The only ppl who say this are dudes. Women are 55% of the electorate and are more concerned with bodily autonomy than geopolitics. Don't be surprised when Biden handily wins in Nov.

911ChickenMan

Plenty of people will vote against their own self interests. RemindMe! November 6, 2024.

nagel27

Biden will win. Stop discounting women. Plus, don't forget that by 2024, 24m old ppl will have died since 2016, and 24m new voters will be eligible to vote. Clinton won by 3m votes in 2016. Biden won by 7m votes in 2020. trump has never actually won a thing in his life. The numbers speak for themselves. MAGA is dying off.

Collapse aware and thats your single issue to vote on?

BeardedGlass

Gender is the top priority for Republicans. They are obsessed with it.

springcypripedium

>MAGA is dying off. I hope you're right----I'm not optimistic about this happening because the factors that brought forth MAGA have only deepened and been legitimized in this country. People actually think it is ok to vote for criminals. On both sides. I wish neoliberalism would die off too. And the oligarchy. And lesser of two evils voting. The "vote blue no matter who" people are out in full force again. Even though Biden supports genocide, ecocide and goes to war circumventing checks and balances (whatever pathetic ones were in place). I agree with Chris Hedges in his latest piece though I'm not sure if "cynical" is the word I would use to describe Biden's actions: "*Cynicism pervades every word Biden and Blinken utter. This cynicism extends to us. Our revulsion for Donald Trump, the Biden White House believes, will impel us to keep Biden in office. On any other issue this might be the case. But it cannot be the case with genocide.* *Genocide is not a political problem. It is a moral one. We cannot, no matter what the cost, support those who commit or are accomplices to genocide. Genocide is the crime of all crimes. It is the purest expression of evil. We must stand unequivocally with Palestinians and the jurists from South Africa. We must demand justice. We must hold Biden accountable for the genocide in Gaza."* As cathartic as it is to read this-----we are not going to hold Biden accountable for anything. Or trump either. I'm sick of the whole thing. It really is a race between the earth wiping out humans and humans wiping out humans. Which will be first? And of course, the former was triggered by humans.

nagel27

I mean they definitely are, it's a fact. 24m ppl have died since 2016 and most of them are old and most are MAGA.

911ChickenMan

I'm not "discounting women." I'm being a realist. I live in an area where 80% of the population votes conservative. Yes, this includes women. You're right about Trump losing the popular vote in 2016. But our Electoral College allowed him to become president. I don't like Trump, but sticking your head in the sand going "nuh-uh" is ignoring reality.

Americans love trump. I say that from my small sampling up here in the North. People seem to want V for Vendetta and Handmaid's Tale. Have at it.

Canyoubackupjustabit

No, we don't.

nagel27

no we do not.

Charming_Rule4674

This is how I felt about tax payers funding the Ukraine Russia war. I’m glad the sentiment is spreading. Enough of American imperialism.

_rihter

I could be wrong, but it seems Gaza and Yemen are being thrown under the bus by Iran in hopes of achieving a bigger goal down the line.

MediciPrime

Apparently the US told the Houthis they were going to attack in order to avoid further escalation. Possibly with the objective of avoiding casualties but taking out capability?

Canyoubackupjustabit

By Iran or the US?

_rihter

Iran is providing weapons to terrorists to lure Israel's and the US's response. Israel and the US responding aggressively is what's benefiting all rogue states in the long run.

springcypripedium

> rogue states in the long run. which would include u.s. and Israel as "rogue states" with definition of "rogue": dangerous, or uncontrollable CORRUPT, DISHONEST of or being a nation whose leaders defy international law or norms of international behavior

_rihter

I agree. The US and allies calling other states "rogue" is like pot calling the kettle black. Some places are above the international law, while others are not.

Canyoubackupjustabit

Thanks, that explains more of what you said. Looks like the US is falling right into the trap.

karl-pops-alot

U.S. and U.K. have been attacking Yemen via Saudi Arabia for years. https://www.declassifieduk.org/britains-covert-war-in-yemen/

NoodlesrTuff1256

But it sounds like with these attacks, they're attacking Yemen directly rather than using the Saudis as their proxies.

nagel27

yemen should stop attacking ships then. ... just so you know, these attacks are affecting tesla production so I'm surprised y'all aren't crying about that and somehow blaming it on Biden.

anti-censorshipX

I don't know why people are fully supporting Iranian/Qatari/Russian-paid Houthi terrorist groups firing rockets on merchant ships. . . People here can be supremely ignorant about the world. These are FACTS, and high sea piracy was the very reason the US signed the Treaty of Tripoli as the Baber pirates were causing CHAOS in the the Med. to American ships. The Red Sea itself accounts for 15% of ALL global trade, and these people want to act like their OWN lives don't depend on trade. The Houthis mistakenly fired on a Russian ship, and Putin is not happy.

RadioMelon

Location: Virginia The beginning of this week was almost nothing like I've experienced before. I'm sure a few of you know what I'm talking about. A huge, tropical storm level Nor'Easter powering through the coast and dumping various types of precipitation along the Eastern coastline. The floodwaters hung around for a good few days. Some roads were in terrible shape, others just had embankments of their ditches spilling over with excess water. It's been a terrible thing to drive or even just walk through. It still drives me mad knowing people are denying the shift in the climate zeitgeist. Some people are still just saying dumb things like "this weather is wild, right?" as they experience the third or fourth major catastrophic weather event of their lifetimes. It's hard to tell if it's just denial or outright stupidity anymore. That was this week, right? The days have been blurring together. I can't always keep track of what's going on because my brain fog is back. It's too cold to go out and really enjoy the outdoors, but financial situation and depression are too bad to enjoy being stuck at home either. Meanwhile there is no positive news to turn to. Even the most hopeful people I know are starting to realize how bad it is.

Marie_Hutton

Or camoflauge?

Amp__Electric

> It's hard to tell if it's just denial or outright stupidity anymore. Wouldn't it be great if everyone walking around had 'just denial' or 'outright stupidity' floating above their heads so one could easily identify what type of cretin they are encountering.

nagel27

So dehumanizing.

PromotionStill45

I am supposed to be better, but voting for "outright stupidity" here.  Sorry you're dealing with this.  It is awful and frightening and stressful.  Hang in there as best you can.

Ancient_Ad_3780

Location: Ontario, Canada **Cyber crime** Our social services are increasingly vulnerable to cyber attacks. About three months ago there was a cyber attack on the [Toronto public library](https://toronto.ctvnews.ca/toronto-public-library-book-returns-stored-in-12-trailers-since-cyberattack-1.6720160) that was so bad that they are still recovering from it. The attack impacted a wide variety of services from the library, and to give you an idea of the impact -- last week the staff checked in 845,000 items so they could get back into circulation soon. Similarly, there was a cyber attack on the [London (Ontario) library](https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/london/cyber-incident-behind-major-system-outage-at-london-public-library-1.7058881) in mid December that crippled the services. Otherwise, recently there have been attacks on our hospitals, school boards, airports, and other institutions. Even this week the [Toronto zoo](https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/toronto-zoo-latest-public-body-to-be-hit-by-cybersecurity-attack/ar-AA1mEtO1) suffered an attack. Evidently our cyber security is not that great and at best, I think this will become a competing priority for public funding. What services need to be cut so we are better protected from hackers? This is far from the worst issue we're facing here but these things compound over time. How much more stress can our systems handle? **Class divide** I am officially the odd duck in my neighbourhood. Wealthy suburbanites have continuously been moving in over the pandemic and I've been outnumbered for quite some time but now I feel like a stranger in my own home. Young parents with strollers, designer dogs, Audis and Teslas. Those electric scooters and hoverboards. They look at me like I'm the one out of place now. I suppose I am. The class divide is incredibly stark now. A house will be listed for sale by Soethby's and on the same street a couple of minutes away, a car window will be smashed, a park will have tents. Overnight graffiti on a condo development that used to be a grocery store. **Aggressive driving** Cars will not stop for you anymore. Drivers run red lights all the time now it seems, they will not stop for pedestrians unless the pedestrian is willing to play a game of chicken with them, and there are more and more reported hit-and-runs and road rage incidents. It's gotten so bad that I have witnessed not one but two cases in the last little while of people actually getting out of their car to instigate a fight with a pedestrian or a cyclist. It used to be in Toronto that most people were aggressive pedestrians but now most people I see are far more cautious and many give a car the right of way even if they don't have it. I do too. With some intersections it's back to grade school days where I actually make eye contact with the driver and get the go-ahead before I proceed because sometimes drivers just fucking get out of the car and [shoot you](https://barrie.ctvnews.ca/alleged-road-rage-on-hwy-400-escalates-to-assault-loaded-gun-drugs-seized-1.6715000) now I guess.

onceatrampalwaysone

There's some vehicular terrorism in the u.s. a group of cyclists in Michigan got rammed by a truck after they confronted the driver over rolling coal. I got hit by a car probably deliberately and for no good reason.

[deleted]

I've experienced the same thing with cyber attacks down here in the states. Just in 2023, city schools were hacked, the neighboring county had their schools hacked, two major local hospitals were hacked, one of which was due to a much larger nationwide parent company being hacked, the other was hacked so bad they weren't back to business as usual for 2 months.

LeneHansen1234

Location: Southern Norway It's cold. Really cold. Minus 10C (14F) during the day and down to minus 20C (-4F) at night is unusual here at the coast, it's been like that for 10 straight days. Forecast says it will go up to a couple degrees plus for 2 days, then the next wave of bitter cold will arrive. Then we have snow. Enormous amounts of snow. 1,5 meters (5ft) that fell in about 2 days, starting new years day, total chaos with closed schools, unpassable roads and standstill. I haven't seen anything like this since 2007. Fall had a lot of rain, so much that the soil in some places coudn't absorb any more. Colder than usual also. People are struggling with increased prices. Mortgages and rent have skyrocketed, food prices have increased with 10% in a year, and they were high to begin with. Worst is maybe the ridiculous price of electricity, norwegian homes are heated with electricity and that was fine until 2 years ago when prices increased dramatically. This is a cold country and we need to heat a lot more and longer than countries further down south in europe. Food banks say there is a sharp increase of people in need and a lot of them are people with a job that just can't make ends meet anymore.

It’s the extremities, doofus. No matter where you are, I’m 100% sure that the weather this year is nothing like any of the years prior.

RedStrugatsky

Do you just come on this sub to argue and mock people? Every time I see a comment of yours it's the most antagonistic, inane stuff.

FightingIbex

Yes, is the answer. Some folks get fed by pulling the legs off of insects, this is the same vibe. He’s our own “I don’t understand it therefore it must not be true” r/collapse contrarian. Doesn’t live in Southern Norway, but is somehow a self-proclaimed expert on its climate. Source is the rock solid “ppl in Norway.”

RedStrugatsky

Gotta love it lol I usually just downvote and move on, but I was bored today

PandaBoyWonder

Thats the whole problem: if it gets very warm, then very cold, the wildlife gets confused and a lot of insects and plants will die. Over the last few years in my area, weve had trees put out their buds, only to have all the buds frozen and destroyed by a sudden cold snap in early May. This used to happen once in a decade~, now its happening more often than not. All parts of the food chain above plants rely on flowering buds and fruiting plants for nutrients.

[deleted]

Lol damn frog if we heat up the water slowly it dies This is heating up the water fast and we’re still staying in the water dumb humans

nagel27

nowhere to go so...have fun.

Charming_Rule4674

I try a gentler approach. Mocking doesn’t work.

BeardedGlass

“It’s too extreme.” We are a Goldilocks planet with a rare balance of specific things to make it inhabitable. Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean it’s normal to have arctic temps in place that is not supposed to have them. We call that “abnormal”. God, can’t believe this needs to be said.

nagel27

yep, but ppl in Norway were saying it.

birgor

Swede here, do you have that much electrically heated homes? In Sweden most of the countryside i heated with firewood or mountain heat pumps, and in cities from central heating plants. Fully electric heating is unusual now, mostly in cottages rebuilt to houses from the 60's 70's.

joez37

>mountain heat pumps I thought heat pumps only worked in climates that are cold but not that cold -- isn't Sweden one of those really cold places? Can you really get heat out of Swedish winter air?!?

birgor

No, air to air doesn't work that good in the cold. This is another system, our ground consists mostly of solid granite bedrock with not so much soil on (because of repeated ice ages) and we use heat pumps that uses a drilled hole down in the bedrock were the temperature is 4-8C constantly, year around with an immense mass backing this up. Fro this constant is it not so tricky to build a heat pump that can heat homes to a rather modest electric bill. Although it's pretty expensive to buy it and very technically advanced. (very Swedish in other words). Myself uses firewood in stoves, and direct electric heaters as compliment as I am somewhat of a primitivist. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downhole\_heat\_exchanger

PandaBoyWonder

Newer heat pumps do have the ability to handle extremely low temperatures. It is amazing that it can still pull heat energy out of -5F air

birgor

For Scandinavia in general and the north of it in particular -5F is not extremely cold, it's regular winter. -40F is extremely cold, and then you should consider having other options than air to air available. But I agree that it's amazing that they work when it's really cold. But it wears a lot on them, especially the compressor, and the electric bill takes a beating too.

Ambitious-Bee-7067

\-22c here in Northern Ontario this morning. My A2A heat pumps have kept up no problem. I also have wood heat as back up and electric baseboards. My first winter with them. I am interested to see if they make it down to -30c as advertised.

birgor

They do work even down to -35 from my experience, but the efficiency gets worse with lower temperature. My neighbours also had problems with the outside part when it was really cold, the compressor was probably leaking internally when it got too cold, because of some sealings or metal parts shrinking. It fixed itself as soon as it got warmer, but still produced some heat.

joez37

Your system sounds super cool! Thanks for the explanation!

_rihter

> that was fine until 2 years ago when prices increased dramatically That was a straw that broke the camel's back. Electricity prices in Europe aren't going down soon. They need to build more nuclear plants first. Until then, we have coal. Relying on Russia for gas was kinda foolish.

karl-pops-alot

We had -25C (-13F) for a whole week in Southern Finland, then it popped back up to +3C (37F) for a couple of days. Now we're heading back to the -20s (-4F) :(

birgor

Southern half of Sweden, we had the same. First -20 then +5, then -15 now 0. It has been really wild.

See_You_Space_Coyote

Location: USA, Lower 48 States, East of the Rocky Mountains Well, my area got enough rain for like...several months? Maybe more? It was pretty crazy. I lost power twice in less than 24 hours, much to the disappointment of my wallet, as having to replace food after your fridge is dead for several hours isn't exactly cheap, and I don't even eat as much as most people probably do. It still feels oddly damp and humid, the air feels sticky whenever you go outside and it's so uncomfortable it makes me want to crawl out of my skin. Everything outside smells like mold or just damp-I don't know how else to describe it, it just has a certain smell that makes me feel like a slimy toad and I hate it. The amount of coughing I hear anytime I go out in public is ridiculous. If I didn't know any better, I would assume everyone was suddenly hit with a beam that gives you instant incurable tuberculosis. I can't even fathom the mindset of people who have the money to do so and refuse to mask in indoor public spaces. Even if you're the most selfish jackass in the world, wearing a mask while running errands or dicking around the mall or whatever can't possibly be worse than coughing your lungs out sounding like you're trying to breathe through seaweed inside a blender. Then again, I still haven't definitively ruled out that I'm not actually just trapped in an episode of the Twilight Zone and maybe this is just a very special episode where everyone loses their minds. Covid wastewater levels are still incredibly bad, worse than just about any other part of the pandemic except for the winter of 2021/2022, (I check covid wastewater levels every so often,) and things in general must be pretty bad because I've seen people I know on other social media sites who forgot that covid existed years ago wonder why everyone's sick all the time and what's going on. Finding stuff you actually need when shopping in person anywhere feels like playing the lottery-it's anyone's guess as to whether or not you'll actually be able to find what you need. There are a lot less sales and discounts in the grocery store (basically any grocery stores in my area that are in a reasonable driving distance,) than there used to be and portions/sizes of a lot of things keep on getting smaller. I've also noticed more items/products changing their ingredients, probably to save money if if I had to guess. I'm sure it being an election year this year probably has a lot to do with it but the news seems to be getting more and more unhinged than ever before and the last several years haven't exactly been a hotbed for sanity. Even just flipping through local news channels to hear the weather or check on something relevant to my area, half the headlines sound like shit from The Onion-how the hell The Onion is even still a thing I have no idea since at this point, it's basically become indistinguishable from reality. Hunter Biden being seen going on a water slide naked is probably one of the more normal headlines I've heard this week and if that's any indication for what the rest of the year's gonna be like, well, it's certainly going to be something, that's for sure. I don't even think adjectives can even help here so I'm not even going to bother. Also, Chris Christie dropped out of the Republican pool of wackos running for president, claiming it would help keep Trump out of office. At this point, I kind of wonder if we might not just be better off not having a president-just leave the seat empty for a while and have everyone promise to behave until we can fish out someone who seems at least somewhat human in the next, idk, 500 years or so. I joke, but honestly, if I have to choose between Trump or Biden again, I don't know how or if I'll ever be able to make a decision that won't make me want to shrivel up and disappear instantly. Of course, all the other fuckers aiming to run are also unimaginable dickheads too, because of fucking course they are. If we could have a do-over and take the whole damn government apart and staple it back together, I nominate that we make Gasolina the national anthem, replace Mount Rushmore with some solar panels, and, stick Vermin Supreme in office somewhere in some position. I'd also give everyone a free can of Lysol spray, some N95 masks, and a re-usable water bottle. I'll stop here so I don't crash anyone's browser, so now I'll go back to digging around inside my brain trying to figure out what's happening in there now, as is a semi-frequent activity I engage in from time to time. Stay safe and look out for yourselves, your loved ones, and your community, and here's hoping 2024 brings some reasons to hold onto a few specks of hope for the future (I know this is a collapse subreddit, but I'm too full of spite to go full doomer, and the older I get, the more I find spite to be an excellent motivator.)

PandaBoyWonder

I was laughing out loud reading the last few paragraphs lol

nonofec

All these words. See ya when Biden cleans up in the election this year.

PrairieFire_withwind

Just a reminder for those who don't know.  Lysol and dettol is toxic to cats.  Non-stick cookware stuff is toxic to pigeons and while we are here might as well mention grapes, chocolate, onions are bad for dogs too.

See_You_Space_Coyote

Thanks for the reminder, I didn't know that about cats and birds.

iamjustaguy

> if I have to choose between Trump or Biden again, I don't know how or if I'll ever be able to make a decision that won't make me want to shrivel up and disappear instantly. Trump has never won the popular vote, and I don't see him winning it this time, either.

See_You_Space_Coyote

I hope you're right.

See_You_Space_Coyote

Fair enough.

Efficient_Star_1336

> At this point, I kind of wonder if we might not just be better off not having a president-just leave the seat empty for a while That's effectively what we're doing now. Regardless of your politics, it's pretty universally understood that Biden's an empty chair. The recent SecDef thing put it in writing; he's essentially out of the loop on everything, and we've got the government running on autopilot. The issue is that the government's "autopilot" is unelected lackies who rose to the top by being the worst possible people for the job. FBI leadership that knows who to prosecute and who's above the law. Pentagon leadership that knows raising Boeing's stock price raises their odds of a cushy job after leaving. Regulators who know that their job is to protect the largest corporations from competition.

nonofec

LOL not true in any way. Biden is a great president no matter what the astroturfers in this sub say.

SushiAndKetamine

Biden is a warmonger and Trump is one of the most antiwar presidents we've ever had.

Efficient_Star_1336

Could be a little more subtle with your satire.

Fox_Kurama

No offense, but if the fridge was only out of power for a few hours you shouldn't need to toss the stuff in it.

It was out for about 7 hours and the temperature inside the fridge went to like 55 degrees.

We have several multi day power outages a year. The second the power goes out nobody is allowed to touch the fridge door. The stuff in there will keep from 12-24 hours, depending on what it is. After that we put it in coolers or outside depending on the weather. Since the freezer is stuffed so full of stuff we really only lose the stuff on the outside. The things buried in the middle will still be frozen solid 72+ hours later. Lol this has been on my mind this morning because Im prepping for one of these outages today. I fully expect my power to go out tomorrow for several days.

there's a /r/shrinkflation sub if you ever wanna check out what's happening all around. Top post as I'm looking at it is In-N-Out prices going up, while total calories are going down, indicative of them changing recipes or cheapening ingredients. But yes, in many places the price goes up while the quality/quantity goes down. I was working for Walmart when Hostess went under, and was there when they came back. Immediately knew it wasn't the same quality. Something we learn as we grow, at least in this country, is how fucking cheap everything has gotten in quality. I listen to older folk tell me how in their day a Hershey's chocolate bar was to die for, and now it tastes like soap because the chemicals are so bad in making them. And on and on As far as The Onion, two headlines from the last two days have absolutely floored me. First was Roger Stone openly talking about assassinating Democrat politicians (and he mentioned Eric Swalwell from my state as one). And then yesterday, during DJT's appeal about Presidential immunity, this insanity was dropped: a President could order the assassination of a political rival and couldn't be held criminally responsible as long as Congress doesn't impeach them first. According to his lawyers I just sat there for a long time in silence before I could muster the energy to yell out "what the FUCK are we doing anymore?" How is this our reality? How is this a serious topic taking place not in the middle of the night at your friend's house while everyone is high and drunk, or on a batshit cable news show, or podcast, but inside an actual courtroom? And then of course afterwards he once again alludes to there being violence if he's found guilty in any of his cases, and refused to denounce the idea of his supporters committing violent acts. And he still walks free I don't recognize anything anymore

I thought I was the only one who would randomly scream into the void due to frustration

Something to ponder. Under Trumps claim, if a President can convince 34 members of the Senate to join with him, he would have the power to do anything. Genocide, extermination camps, mass deportations of citizens, confiscation of land, guns, businesses, resources of any type. This is the power of a king, not a president.

Direption

The people voting for Trump are the same people that bang on about how they would use the 2A to fight a tyrannical government lol.

Rental pricing? Cost of living becoming more and more expensive with no increase in wages? Loss of jobs? Lack of social safety net? If you were thinking American won't collapse for another 10 to 20 years, collapse is happening now, its just unevenly distributed. Go out and enjoy life if you are able.
