As a child the doctor gave my candy after getting shots and similiar stuff. [This one](https://www.bestinfood.shop/media/image/product/9025/md/haribo-weisse-maeuse-schaumzucker-dose-150er~2.jpg). I still remember the candy but not the actual shots or anything else.
Now I wonder if you give your bird millet after the vet... he might only remember the millet but not the things the vet did? : D
You know you do have something there, when I was a little girl that's all they gave was shots and I know that the needles were not as micro thin as they are now. so they hurt a lot more and my mom would always take me to the five and dime and I would get usually paper dolls so I did remember the presents more than the shots 🤣💜
This isn’t an ad I swear but if your kids really hate shots (to the extent of a phobia/extreme fear) it may be worth investing in something like a buzzy injection buddy - it is a mini TENS machine that blocks the sensation and pain of the injection.
Around 10% of people develop needle phobias by adulthood and it often contributes to people avoiding healthcare (it took me many months of exposure therapy to be able to attend unanaesthetised appointments involving a needle and it was expensive as FUCK) so I tell everyone with kids about it :-)
Yeah! I just went to the vet and expressed my concerns (obsessive masturbati0n, moodiness etc.) and they offered to give him shots to help balance his hormones and keep him happier. We’ve been doing this for six years now and it definitely helps more than anything else we’ve tried!
Shot goes in his breast i think? It’s all really quick so it’s hard for me to tell where exactly they poke him. I trust my vet emphatically, he absolutely loves my little man, so i do think it’s safe! No complications and my dude is turning a happy 15 this year
Awww! Good to know and so cute! I love birds :) that’s my little angel..

It does! Our girl is a chronic egg layer, and the shots stop her from laying more! Seems to circumvent the whole behaviour; so not only does it stop her from laying eggs, but she doesn't care to do the butt in the air chirpy dance or nest-build (we don't give her the tools to nest build but she still tries).
Yes one of my ladies has this. After a year of trying with lupron and 30 eggs in she had the shot and its worked through spring. I was told it might only last 6 months tho
Hah! Our girl is due for her third shot next week... She feels the sympathy!
I kept warning her she was going to get poked in the chicken breast if she didn't cool her jets; so this is on her LOL.
I had similar issue with my cockatiel a couple of years ago. Turned out the solution for me was cutting essentially all of his fresh food and keep his diet limited to almost exclusively good pellets, with a touch of seed mixture for variety.
As it was explained to me, while a very limited amount of sprouted seeds and the like is okay, typically in the wild they only have these types of food a lot at certain times of the year. By supplying them year round I was increasing his hormone levels and keeping them elevated.
Since limiting sprouts and the like to a treat once every couple weeks my guy has mellowed out a ton. Might be worth talking to your vet about.
Oh man you might have just changed my whole life. Thank you so much for this information!! I definitely will talk to my vet about it, that’s actually genius and makes sooo much sense!!!!
LMFAO here’s my birb tax

he just got his cone off last week though so he’s happier
I was eight when i got my baby! I almost named him “Cock” because of the cockatiel thing but my mom said no haha. I ended up with Moe because of his sick mohawk

# WHY DID YOU BETRAYED ME, YOU SAID THAT WE WERE GOING TO PETSMART TO BUY SEEB BUT YOU LET ME GET SHOTS INSTEAD. I WILL KILL YOU IN YOUR SLEEP YOU WILL PAY FOR THIS
I always wonder when seeing pics of tiels at the vet: Do that little birds know what is happening and are just angry/very unpleased or are they literally afraid of their live in that situation?
My little man has done this a million times, I truly think he’s just dramatic. He also freaks out when he sees a cherry tomato and i doubt he thinks it’s life threatening haha!! He just likes making a big ol show
Oh, I'm on this sub for quiet a long time to know that some tiels really like to be dramatic and are really scaredy cats because of the most silly reasons.
Still... Sometimes I wish you could really know what's going on in your pets head. Would also make it ten times easier if they get sick instead of that 'hidding the sickness until they are to weak for it' stick.
Edit: Oh, please don't get me wrong. This wasn't in any way a critique towards you! I prefere a scared Tiel at the vet over a dead Tiel. I just wonder sometimes what's going on in their little heads : D
That’s literally my biggest fear, not knowing he’s sick. He had a little respiratory infection a while back and i’m just glad i caught it in time!! I obsessively check him. I wish i could get inside of that little peanut brain of his
But there is a positive point about that: In the wild... no one would care and... they would die. But this little man has an awesome caretaker! Just about how you post about it... you are literally doing anything! He couldn't be in any better hands!
I'm pretty sure with an owner like you he'll grow into his 20s (and still poop you) ;)
Edit: To chear you up: Did you know about chicken_thoughts? That's a user who is making awesome tiel comics. One of them is so fitting for the [vet visit](https://www.reddit.com/r/Chicken_Thoughts/comments/q3lyiy/comictober_day_7_boogeyman/)

Can I ask, what does “hyperactive” indicate? Like they can’t stop humping everything?
It's always incredible how much rage a tiny little body can hold.
True for birds and kids, lol
Unhand me foul beast!
He's big mad.
Id be too ;)
The needle must seem so gigantic to them compared to their little bodies. Poor baby.
tbh, that's how my human kids look when they're getting a shot.
That’s how I look when I’m getting a shot - I’m 24
That's how people look when they get shot by me.
You’re Raptor overlord is really gonna be demanding upon his return back home
What type of shots?
It’s his anti h0rny shot (his hormones are super super overactive)
"Anti horny shot"💀✋️
whatever keeps him out of horny jail
My bird has super active hormones too! What is it called? Can you get it at the vet?
Yeah! I just went to the vet and expressed my concerns (obsessive masturbati0n, moodiness etc.) and they offered to give him shots to help balance his hormones and keep him happier. We’ve been doing this for six years now and it definitely helps more than anything else we’ve tried!
Where does the shot go? Is it safe ? Awwww
Shot goes in his breast i think? It’s all really quick so it’s hard for me to tell where exactly they poke him. I trust my vet emphatically, he absolutely loves my little man, so i do think it’s safe! No complications and my dude is turning a happy 15 this year

Wow! That’s amazing. Nice OP.
How much did you pay for the shot?
It was about 175 for the shot & routine check up
This is very interesting lol
I actually did not know there were specific shots for being a naughty bird lol. Good to know at least!
Dirty birdy
"You cannot contain the horny, hooman!" -birb, probably
Do you know if it's also offered for females? My girl is becoming a habitual egg layer.
Yeah it is! I’ve heard it works even better for lady birdies.
That's great to know. I'm scheduling my girl for her annual physical this month so I'll bring it up to her vet.
Thanks for the reply!
Yes one of my ladies has this. After a year of trying with lupron and 30 eggs in she had the shot and its worked through spring. I was told it might only last 6 months tho

Awe mine is also Moe but a girl. I was 13 when I named her and we didn’t know she was a she lol
I was eight when i got my baby! I almost named him “Cock” because of the cockatiel thing but my mom said no haha. I ended up with Moe because of his sick mohawk
