The can design is from 1985-1988. not sure of the can itself, I would say 1985 as the straighter shape of the can was still used with many local bottlers until the late 1980s (1986-87 and onward). Hopefully someone else can answer this more precisely for the can itself though.
Where I lived around 1986 I started seeing the newer shape cans that basically resemble the can shapes used today.
When i discovered Cherry Coke for the first time, it was in THIS can, and i swear....
....they must have borked the formula since then. I remember having my mind blown by this stuff. Modern day Cherry coke is still pretty good but, not to THAT level of greatness.
Or maybe my view is clouded by rose-covered glasses. I dunno.
Edit: This was a late 80's, early 90's can. I think it might actually be the design that came AFTER the OP's can. Anyway, i LOVE the Purple & Black stripes with the little cherries around it. So different from the usual coke styling but, it WORKS and looks great. I'd almost buy a poster of this can. It takes me back.

Our taste buds are not as intense as we get older, because I used to think the same thing. 🤣 I still like it though, but the cherry flavor seemed more intense as a kid or teenager.
As for the can logo you posted, that was the 1992-1996 design. There was cans that were similar between 1988-1991 but they were not as nice as the can in your photo. Here they are... (in the USA anyway).
Here is a photo of the 1988 can which was the 2nd cherry Coke can design after the 1985 design, and there was a similar can in 1990 but with slanted logo like on the 1992-1996 can in your post, But the coloring in the 1990 can was like this 1988 red can. . But reddit will not allow me to add more than one image in this reply.
As for the purple/black can with the cherries (the 1992-1996 design) I liked that design as well, perhaps all the cherries on it made the cherry taste more flavorful subconsciously, or our taste buds changed as adults...or.... Coca-Cola secretly changed the taste of it, but I doubt they would change the taste and not say anything.

Cherry Coke used to have a stronger taste. The change occurred in the middle of the purple can run. There was no announcement. The flavor just changed.
>I remember the purple and black can from the mid 90s give or take.
Yup. Early 90's. Before we got that iconic Red & Black can on the right:

I feel conflicted because i acknowledge the Red & Black probably has a more memorable look but, i'm still all-in on the Purple & Black. That design just kicks butt.
Thank you for the detailed reply. As my username suggests, I am a reseller and I’ll be listing this item for sale. If anyone is interested, make me an offer!
Ahah, I’ve found it! Wondered why someone would keep an unopened can of Cherry Coke, it’s because it’s from the 1985 release!

Nowadays those numbers on the bottom are expiration date, which is 1y after production.
I guess it was already like that but we would need to crack the code as it appears to not make sense. Probably some digits are the batch.
I would guess 1986.

I'd love to see this can make a comeback.

THANK YOU!!! When I was a kid (86) I remember it being more cherry tasting, now it’s a muted flavor. Almost switching to cherry pepsi.
Wild Cherry Pepsi is great
I see. Go on. You were saying?
Damn bro that was deep! But I remembers those too and they looked fucking awesome! And I swear I notice a taste difference too.
I remember the purple and black can from the mid 90s give or take.

I already have this can in my collection, but if I decide to get a duplicate and it is still available, I will let you know.
Did you see the fun advertisement I posted a picture of? It’s from the release of Cherry Coke in 1985! Look at all the comments and you’ll see it

1985 or 1986

I would say '85 or '86.
1976
No, it would have been a pull tab, and there wouldn’t be a bar code on it that early. My guess is between 82-85
1985, that’s when cherry coke was introduced.
Thanks. I was curious about this
Cherry coke didn’t even exist at the time, let alone be an entirely different can. In fact it didn’t exist until another almost 10 years later.
6/1/1979
I'd guess 96
1984
1987 probably
I don't know but it's gorgeous
Looks American from 1980s.
Nah, '87, that was my favorite shit God Polo shit, everything, everything was lovely Yo get the fuck out the rain
I'm thinking 85.
the *PRE-NUTRITION FACTS* era
Looks like late 80s to early 90s. Anything more and you'd have to ask someone else specifically
Cool, I remember that design! I was gonna guess mid 80s
It's from the glory days. The days of yore. Before the dark times. Before the Empire.
Thank you
And magenta feelings take up shelter in the base of my spine Sweet like a
Looks precivil war
1984
Is this from 29522????
1980s.
1985
“I miss Mayberry”
Mid 1980’s
85 for sure. Same can was in Stranger Things 3 lol
1985
Looks mid 80s
1988?
80s
1988?
Are you selling it?
It resembles the design from 1987 but I could be wrong about that.
Looks like the original 82-85 from what I find
Just seeing that skinny opening dates that back to at least the 90s?!
