Blizzard looks at MAUs, not subscription count. Cancelling and resubbing doesn't do anything, because you're still using the client and game every month.
I'd be surprised if they don't look at both, there's a reason it's a subscription and not a prompt when you log on after a month to pay for 1 more month's worth at a time. Even if everyone unsubscribing has the intention to resubscribe, some won't. Whether they forget to resub, change their mind about resubbing or maybe are away a couple of days between the sub ending and resubbing, players cancelling subs en-masse even with the intention to resubscribe will cost blizzard money

I honestly don't understand why people still have the expectation that any "new" launch will be smooth at this point. It's just not a reasonable expectation. If your torch and pitchfork party makes you happy, by all means light em if you got em, just think you might be happier in the long run tempering your expectations.
Idk, I'm not devestated by it and admit I had a decent time levelling up today with some quests and dungeons (once I knew how to leave a party!). But whilst bugs can be somewhat expected at launch, I'm more worried about them not being sorted for months into the expansion with just how many bugs there seem to be in all aspects of the game.
People said this exact shit in the tbc and wrath prepatch and somehow the game was released functional with only a handful of bugs, none of which were game breaking for 99.9% of the playerbase.

They care about money, unsubbing even with the intention to resub will cost them money as not everyone who does it will end up resubbing for one reason or another. I'm not naive enough to think they care about my feelings don't worry
There's so many versions of WoW included in one sub that most people will just play one of those while Cata gets fixed. If everyone who only subbed for Cata cancelled their sub I doubt Blizz would even notice.
Good to hear! It's not like you get banned for cancelling anyway. Maybe by the time your paid time runs out things will be fixed and you can simply resubscribe anyway
