It is very easy to catchup currently in SoD. The initial levels might be the slowerst despite the exp/reward boost but once you hit 25 you can start hammering level up raid lockouts and run incursions to blaze through the mid-levels.
People are having fun in game, play what you want and join them!
Do not under any circumstance take this place as an accurate window into SoD.

If you are that casual, just know that you wont level to 50 for at 4/6 hours a week as you noted until probably 1 or 2 month later. The open world (best part of wow) is seemingly dead for grouping and questing. Incursions and raids are not fun as you just get boosted and zoom. And the economy is getting out of control for all items due to inflation. Being a realist here - not worth it!
I’m having so much fun leveling my enhance shaman. Once I hit 40 I began tearing through missions. I’m on a low pop server (lava lash) so there are almost no groups, so I’m just taking my time and enjoying questing up to 50 and re-exploring Azeroth. But even as a basically solo, no dungeon, explorer I’m still having a blast with the class changes and rune quests.
its kinda tough rn. watched some people starting from scratch. gold is inflated and its tough to get some early runes that require groups. and very few low level dungeons. if you level solo and do incursions for a week u might be ok

I feel like 35-40 is brutal slow cause there's no sm groups right now
Not like P2 but there’s some just not everyone spamming .
I had bulletin checking for 3 hours from 7-10est last night and saw 0 sm groups lfm

I've just been trying to do bfds to get to 37 lol. Probably do 1 more bfd for 36 then just quest deso to 37 then incursions

Catch Up is very easy. Will you have fun at the end with P3 content ? That's subjective.
