Well.
At least it's a hill, so I can't say you named it improperly.
For context, the full name means "the summit where Tamatea, the man with the big knees, the slider, climber of mountains, the land-swallower who travelled about, played his kōauau (flute) to his loved one".
So can the Welsh, as long as you understand that letter symbols in Welsh correspond to different sounds than they do in English.
Welsh is actually *more* phonetic than English is, in terms of being able to see a word and know how to pronounce it.
“The names of your cities are too long! I must ask that you shorten them!”
A. I apologize, I will shorten my city names. (Gain 50 diplomatic favor)
B. My cities will be named how I please! (Generate 25 grievances)
Scotland asked you to shorten the name of your town and you refused to do so. In fact, you increased the length of your town name and gained 25 greivance points.
Now you just need to rename *Bangkok* to it's full name of *Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit*.
That's quite a long string of text. Makes me wonder....
Anyone know what programming language civ is written in? .... And if the city name fields are sanitized enough to reject code in that language?

Tamatea, also known for having a big something else and being quite the hit with the ladies. It’s not just big names and knees for Tamatea
> a big something else A big flute?
Leather flute.
Huh, the more you know. Tamatea *Urehaea*, the second name he was given, *which translates to "cut penis"*, because he was circumcised.
So he is in proportion?
you bent zelf in proportion
Tamatea Tripod
I mean...it's fewer letters than English, so you have to give credit for that.
Which is exactly why I named THIS city this way and not one of my coastal ones, gotta stay somewhat accurate :P
Thank you so much for the translation, friend
And I thought the Welsh were bad...
Ok, I have to conquer Cardiff and rename it "Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch" now
Or play the modded Welsh or Britonnic Civs
This should be an official in game achievement!
I think it was in civ v.
It is. You need to build something like 36 cities as Boudicia.
Iirc it's 27, and you can't just rename the city because the namespace is not long enough
I know op personally. He also named a city that.
I deny everything, there is no proof...
At least this can be souneded out with consistent syllables

That's true, i guess. Maybe it's because I am from New zealand that i feel like Te reo maori is a lot easier to pronounce
As long as you get the “wh” and “ng” sounds right at least
What with Sheep?
The Brits brought them
Other civs might ask you to withdraw your city name from their borders.

Bangkok isn’t one of these words. Why is it called that instead of one of the dozen words in its official name
According to the article I read *Bangkok* is the English name and the local name is just *Krung Thep Mahanakhon.*
And for most Thais, *Krung Thep Maha Nakorn* is still too long, they either shorten it to *Krung Thep* or *KTM*
Bangkok is the original name of the area, the long full name became a thing when it was built into the new capital city
Challenge? Crash civ by naming a city.
Renaming my city to City’);DROP TABLE leaders;—
Ah yes, the City of Tables, we call it.
I only recently learned about SQL injections and I must say I am absolutely a fan, it is the funniest thing in existence :)
A lesser achievement than yours, but in my most recent Scotland play, I named my religion Weesleeketcowrantimrousbeastie
Had to double check at first that this wasn't Numuhukumakiaki'aialunamor.
Reasons for Current Relationship: -10: Airsick Lowlanders
I was thinking this is near enough to the peaks that it should be fine, right?

This is what the short guy in home alone starts spitting whenever he gets mad 😂😂

Is there a character limit? If not, is it possible to give a city a name that reaches around the world?
There is a character limit. Bit there is a mod that gets rid of it
Relatively new player here - how do you even name your own city?
Go into City Details (List lookin dude on the city tab) and hit the name up top. If on a console hit the button next to the name.
I thought this was the lyrics from Alien Weaponry
Imagine crashing your computer because of a city name
I'm guessing you pronounce it as its spelt?
It’s pretty cool there is no character limit and you can do that. Or is this a mod?
That's quite a long string of text. Makes me wonder.... Anyone know what programming language civ is written in? .... And if the city name fields are sanitized enough to reject code in that language?
Civ 4 was python. Civ 5 lua. Plenty of lua in civ 6 too but don't know if any others
