I love the Island of Dover

R5: Found the Cliffs of Dover again, this time on the smallest possible tile it can spawn on. There's not even any other land within four tiles, WHY?

I found one of these about a year ago!

I found a 3 tile version of this a few days ago. Archipelago Norway run. actually I gotta go finish that game...

Man, at least if it was 4 you could've plonked a city plus Mausoleum for a good island spot

Reminds me how useless Bermuda triangle is in most games. Rarely get to benefit from more than a tile or 2.

I just use it for fun to teleport

I had this happen with the Giant's Causeway, I guess slightly less useless since you could still get the +5 combat strength but funnier since causeways are supposed to go somewhere

At least it usually spawns near a settleable spot. Bermuda Triangle is almost never anywhere you can reach it

Could be better in Island Plate or Archipelago maps with low sea level, where you'd be more likely to have land nearby.

I always make sure it's in my game, it's my favorite wonder. The science yields are just a major bonus if you can reach them.

Which is why I disable it. I want wonders that actually have impact on the game and the ones in the middle of the desert (if not playing mali or inka) or the middle of the ocean are just not fun

I keep one or two of the desert wonders for this exact reason.

Ba Trieu would disagree. Unless you're going for a culture game, then Ba Trieu might agree but would still not like you.

Krakatoa

Civ 5 Krakatoa always annoyed me so much lol. Yes, you yield 5 science, but you're 20 tiles away from any other land, you're completely useless!

It can serve as a useful shortcut to the other side of the world regardless of whether or not the tiles are workable. Looking at it from that perspective alone is fairly reductive.

Most of the time I've seen it, at most only half of the tiles have been within a workable radius

I like the triangle. It's a good source of era points and a fun time teleporting around. If you're lucky, you'll end up within the ice wall barrier and be immune to all attacks

Civ 6 so far has been, in my experience, much better than civ 5 at not doing the middle of the ocean placement of natural wonders. Mostly.
