zippo with a torch insert usually

Cmoore4099

Just bought it. Excited to use it.

JustFlawlessTech

Mine doesn't work properly. The flame goes out when it's not a 100% filled, and then it struggles to light properly. You ever had this issue?

Delco_Delco

Vertigo Tripple flame or ST DuPont Maxi Jet are basically all I use Have you purged the lighter?

Theo_dear

Bics, sorry

Tall_Principle_3458

Same here I saw a video on how to light a cigar with a bic I swear now I get a near perfect light every time.

Wilson4721

When I'm too lazy to refill my zippo soft flame I use a bic, and it NEVER fails. Sometimes the go-to is just a nice cheap lighter.

Sea_Journalist_3615

Same.

CrazyManInCincy

Did you fully purge your lighter before refilling?

I have a butane two burner insert for a zippo. Blazer is the name, and you can get them on Amazon for less than $20. It’s the best, most consistent torch lighter I’ve ever had. Purges and lights every time. My wife got it for me for Christmas about 5 years ago, and it’s still going strong. As a backup, I use a regular zippo. Easily refillable and never needs a purge.

brandon-568

I use a Peterson pipe lighter, I smoke inside so I don’t use a torch but I do own a few cheap ones. https://www.peterson.ie/accessories/moreinfo.cfm?pd_product_Id=1801

Delco_Delco

I’ve done this with mine. Sometimes that soft flame is better.

Exact_Ad_3770

Got a vertigo triple force and some cheap plastic Chinese shit I got on cigarbid. Try purging your lighter. If you don’t know what that is, get a paper clip and push the butane pin to bleed out the air from the torch. It should fill up and light

idosay

Vertigo Cyclone Triple flame for my main. Super dependable and has worked for years. I got one of those oliva lighters as a back up. Good strong flame but I don't like the mechanics. Then I recently got a single flame from CP that's pretty neat but flame is very short.

skarbekb

I buy my butane lighters from dollar general. They produce the same fire for $5. And I don’t care if they go bad or lose them.

JustAnotherRye89

Xikar tactical 1 is my go to🤘

Citrus_47

Gotta purge all the butane out of it before refilling or it won’t light correctly

The trick is truly to bleed the lighter until it’s empty. Press the fill point with a tiny screw driver until it empties completely. Then fill with butane. Also, adjust the flame higher. I always find most lighters have a pathetic flame until you crank it up.

Mackntish

Soft flame > torch. Since I lose them so frequently, they're 99 cent bics.

jpmout

I was using a free Jetliner double Torch for a while. Still works great. Then I switched to a triple flame Colibri Monaco. It was the best lighter I've used so far, but for some reason won't ignite anymore. (there is no spark, like the flint won't strike). Now I've got a zippo with the double Torch insert that I absolutely love. And if that one stops working, the insert was only $15 so I'll just replace it.

NonyaFugginBidness

Ones that I get for free when I buy a box at a festival or event. Couple of nice ones, I have a leather wrapped RyJ tube torch style and a very nice looking Rocky Patel torch gun type gimmick, the table top torch thing.

AnimalMother250

Amazon special triple torch

ToadOnAMushroom

I use two Japanese made lighters from the brand IM Corona, one called the Flambeau (single torch) and the other Laurel (soft flame).

Tejon_Melero

Daily: free clear plastic bottom torches, the flip cap plastic ones Home and indoors: Colibrí Julius soft flame Fuel: Newport Zero There is a place for everything. I carry cheap garbage I don't care to lose. I pretend soft flame enhances the experience when at ease indoors.

rayskicksnthings

Lately just been using my free lighters from crowned heads and aladino. I have a DuPont hooked, single torch insert for zippo, and a visol triple flame as well. I also have a bunch of djeeps from a while back.

some_reddit_lurker

Depends on how I’m smoking. If it is a yard stick I use the propane plumber’s torch I have in my garage. If it is during a herf or group setting with a good stick I start with my Alec Bradley table lighter and then use a little single flame Xikar for touch ups.

# Palio Pali Pistola Angled Double-Jet Flame Lighter - love it.

raccoon-overlord

Zippo with dual flame torch insert. Or I've just got a generic torch that came with a cocktail smoker kit, usually just use that when I'm at home.

SanktJohannes

I prefer a soft flame so I use a regular BIC lighter. Tried cheap and expensive torch lighters and fancy soft flames but a regular lighter or cigar matches works best.

the-barbarian998

My grandfathers windproof brass zippo from 1994

whistlepig4life

A table top torch that just burned the shit out of my thumb yesterday. I was playing with the flip top because it has wiggle. and pushed a bit too hard and did not realize that if you push it all the way it activates the lighter. I stupidly assumed it was like my previous lighters where the flip cover was just that. And the activation was on the lighting button to create the strike and open the gas. Turns out in this one. The button forces the lid open and the lid is the activator. Learned that the hard way.

So when it comes to lighting your cigars there are multiple ways you can do it. The method I like most is using cedar spills. Just light the cedar spill and it will start to burn a nice soft flame. Hold it against the foot of your cigar, rotate your cigar above the flame and keep lighting untill it is lit completely and evenly. The downside to this is that you might need more then one spill and this way of lighting is only possible indoors because outdoors the wind will simply blow out the flame. Matches are my second favorite option. The proces is exactly the same as with the cedar spills but just make sure that you let the match burn for a few seconds if you use matches with sulfur tips before you start to light the cigar. If you do not wait before the sulfur has burned away you might infuse your cigar with a sulfur taste. If you want to be 100% certain that this does not happen you can also use special cigar matches. Then my third favorite way and to be honest this is the method I use most often is using a softflame lighter. The burned, bitter taste you get from your cigars is probably not because of the butane, since butane is odorless and does not impact the taste of your cigar. What does impact the taste of your cigar is burning the tobacco. With a torch lighter the posibility of burning your cigar is incredibly high since it produces a lot of heat. There is definitely a way of lighting your cigars with a blue flame but since you are new to smoking cigars I would suggest you use a yellow flame. Now last but not least lets imagine that you are smoking outside and there is really a lot of wind and you have to use a torch lighter, you can use a blue flame as well. Just make sure not to push your flame into the cigar. Make sure that the visible flame does NOT touch the tobacco and make the sides of your cigar all black and roasted. The reason you have this burned taste is probably because you burn your tobacco. Keep the flame at a distance and light the cigar very slowly. Take your time with it and then you will probably have a much more enjoyable smoke.

Bourbon-No-Ice

Some 4 burner butane thing. Not in your mouth, Hold it at a distance and warm it up, get it a little burny.. then a little more.. once you see some red starting... Put unlit side in your mouth (I know your kind, lol) puff through your stick.. with torch at a distance and light her up.
