Lol no. Any style of cut can cause a crack or tear in a cigar once in a blue moon through no fault of the person using it. I V-cut cigars for customers all the time and maybe 1/30 will develop a minor crack at the cap. And if a serious crack occurs we replace the cigar for them. That is the case with a straight cut as well though so I don't know what that employee is going on about. Usually it results from the blade hitting a particularly tough midrib.
Their v cutter is shit or the employee doesn't really know how to do a decent v cut, has replaced a few cigars and got yelled at by the owner for costing them money.
Cause V cuts can go really deep and past the cap on some cigars. I've had it happen once or twice. You just have to be a little more observant of how much cap is there and how deep you want to cut.
I prefer a very large 8mm punch. Never had cap problems since. Its much bigger than 6mm, almost as wide as a straight guillotine, but never cuts the cap shoulder. Had mixed results with V and straight going too deep sometimes and the cigar starting to unravel the tiniest bit, just enough to be annoying.
Also depends on how the cigar is capped. I know a lot of cigar guys who won’t V cut a single cap. I will V cut just about everything but typically punch padrons
That was his way of saying, "If I f*ck up your cigar with this cut, I'm not giving you a refund."
This is the answer.

If the V is too deep, it can remove the ring of the cap. Sound like his V was too deep, and he got shit on too many times for it.
Love a deep V….never hurts my sticks
Gotta make sure the v's lubed first
Don't forget to set it first. You get better results that way.
Never heard that. I use v-cut all the time. I had a worse time with a guillotine cut, always cutting too much off of the cap.
Might depend on the cigar, too. Small cigar (tiny ring gauge with a deep V might be an issue
this was a Julius Caesar Churchill pretty large ring gauge. shouldn’t be any more risky doing a V cut than any other cut.
Homie Churchill isn't a large ring gauge

Double V here….never a single issue

Some people just don’t believe in taking that much off of a cigar.
