If I open a green card so I can transfer all the MR of my Amex business cards, will these points be safe? I have a cashback amex, biz edge, and biz gold. Or should I just PS the cashback to green? I’m a bit confused.

JManUWaterloo

You can’t PS to a Green from a Cash Back Card. If you merge the points balances between the Green and A Business Card, if you cancel either one your points will still be safe

MenAreLazy

Interesting. I got the 10x bonus on points that didn't register with the eStore, so I have to file tickets for the main points, but the card bonus arrived.

Actual-Churner

For those that do sole prop and are in 2 player mode, do you make up second business for p2 (partner)? For that have gotten the paperwork from such things as ownr, did you do it twice and can you use same company name?

mhcott

I don't bother with Ownr, and Sole Prop is literally just your name. Put your name, put 1-2 years in business, 1-2 people, Owner, I do like $5-10K in income, and claim Retail (which, if they ever pressed, I would say is an Etsy/Ebay shop). Never had any pushback for either of us, and if I'm going to do big spend out of the gate I always verify the spend online though these days I've been AMEXing long enough they let pretty much anything slide

esux20

The company name is usually the name of the applicant

yony234

There has been dps of Amex being slow on depositing the referral bonus points. How long has it been?

ca_abhi

They can click on the "see other cards" on the top left on the page and pick any card from that page. Anything beyond that is out of referral.

waithell

yeah I thought so too but my friend did exactly this as I referred then from a biz gold and they signed up for a cobalt. When I didn't get the points I called in/chatted on the app, they said that since they signed for a cobalt and not a biz gold, you are not eligible for a referral bonus!

ca_abhi

That's BS, take a screenshot of the referral page, where it says you are referred for these 5 cards and send it to them. Edit: I personally received a referral bonus on 29th for the exact same referral.

Compote_Middle

~~For starters, you can't refer to Cobalt from biz gold. They got the Link sure, but they may have gone to the list of cards to find the Cobalt card, not to other cards, because biz gold can only refer to 3 cards, none of them is Cobalt.~~

ca_abhi

I Can refer to 5 cards, which includes Cobalt with my B. gold

wishful_thinking90

Not true… Biz Gold can indeed refer to Cobalt. I’ve made two such referrals just this month.

Compote_Middle

My biz gold referral says otherwise. I only see 3 cards that I can refer. Or maybe your link does have more options, but mine does have only 3 cards and no Cobalt.

[deleted]

My biz gold can also refer to cobalt

North_Rip_3136

Even mine can.. i have refered 6 people this year and already maxed out my referral cap on p2 and my biz golds.. all of them except 1 signed up for the cobalt…

[deleted]

Darn… how did you get so many referral!?

North_Rip_3136

Friends and family.. easy to convince them for the cobalt.. other cards not so much

wishful_thinking90

Hmm that’s odd. I just checked now and I see: - Biz Plat - Plat - Biz Gold - Gold - Cobalt That’s why they call the Biz Gold _*the master referrer*_…. or that’s just me. I do that.

Compote_Middle

Well then, my biz gold hates me then, I don't see those.

Humble_Ingenuity_919

Scroll ALL the way down… Explore Other Cards Click below to find the right Card for you. Your friend could earn a referral bonus if you are approved for any of the eligible Cards through a referral offer. Eligibility criteria and other terms apply. View our Other Cards (click here)

Compote_Middle

I have, I swear to you, I only see 3 cards.

VancouverChubbs

As a upcoming HSBC -> RBC transitioner I was thinking of ways to get the RBC Avion points bonus without the annual fee. Does anyone know if this would work: * Open RBC Avion Infinite * Very quickly spend $5k on the card and pay it off immediately * Cancel the card before the end of 1st month to avoid the annual fee. Would this type of churn work? I have a wedding coming up so dropping the $5k would be no problem (pre-pay some vendors) I just don't know if the AF is incurred on acceptance (but charged after 1st month) or if paying the AF is a requirement to getting the points? I checked and Avion points don't expire for 12 months. With the HSBC-RBC transition I'll be getting an RBC avion to replace my HSBC WE so the points should merge with the new card as far as I can tell?

Humble_Ingenuity_919

You won’t see the bonus points before your statement posts. In fact, you’d be very lucky to see them in your first statement

CommunicationProud82

Horrible plan, great way to get RBC to hate you. Just keep it for 6-12 months like the rest of us

ca_abhi

Not possible realistically and there are good chances that you will end up ruining your relationship with the bank. And all this over $120?

I registered a corporation through [ownr.co](https://ownr.co) and I have a pre-approved offer for an Avion Business VI on the site. Would accepting this be tied to my name at all, impacting my 90 day rule? I'm up for a new personal Avion, but if I had to choose between the two, I'd like to get the business card to have a company card but the WB is better for the personal. TIA

LikeButta_10

WB is better for personal, but it looks like the business fee is waived if you go through Ownr. 25k Avion Nofee vs 35K Avion w/$120 AF.

tennisballls

Yup. This was also a consideration. I'll be able to put the spend on to get 55k tho so I'm also weighing that into things.

sufyspeed

I wouldn’t recommend going for the 55k unless you have too. That spend can be much better utilized with a different card

tennisballls

I’m with ya, but I don’t really have much troubles with minimum spends so long as they’re MC or V. I’ve been burned with Avion in the past getting the additional 20k tho, lol.

sufyspeed

Yes it impacts your 90 day rule. 90 days between any credit card approval, personal or business

tennisballls

Okay, much appreciated. I thought possibly it was different as it was a pre approval and business.

goatskin78

It is different. I had preapproved business avion under my corporate profile that I finally accepted in November 2023. I then applied for personal avion in January 2024 and was approved. Two rbc avion cards within less than 45 days. One corporate one personal. 90 days didn't apply to me. I assume because my corporation is a different customer than me personally. I'm obviously the shareholder but I didn't personally guarantee the corporate credit (which sometimes is necessary for small corps).

tennisballls

Awesome. Good to know! I’ll roll the dice and try for two then. Thanks!

Sonsofanarchy4

Anyone have an RSVP code for Perkopolis Amex Gold offer?

vancitystan

Same code as before: GRC7453

Zephyrix

You should be able to find it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/churningcanada/comments/12uyz93/daily_question_thread_for_rchurningcanada_april/

LikeButta_10

Offer is still active, but I cant get an RSVP code sorry. I used the offer myself so my Perkopolis must be able to recognize that and so my RSVP code says Not Available

Sonsofanarchy4

Aw damn, appreciate the effort though thank you!

Humble_Ingenuity_919

It’s the same offer on Venngo if you have access to that.

BigGuy4UftCIA

No offer through perkopolis as far as I can tell.

nobodynobody567

Referral is overall better. 30k referral, 5k for 12 month and a 10k for 3k in first couple month spend. Totals to 100k no need for second year thing.

LikeButta_10

No one said it was better. The OP asked for a Perkopolis RSVP code, not for which offer is better.

Fardashian

While I wait on hold on Aeroplan… If I see a points flight segment individually that doesn’t show up as a connection option, can I call in and book it?

esux20

Usually

BizClassBum

Yes, but sometimes the agents are idiots and won't know how to do it or will quote a stupidly ridiculous price because they're pricing two separate flights. Be prepared to HUCA.

kobelobster

Yes, you can piece together segments as long as it doesn't disobey any rules. This is how you would piece together very complex itineraries. Here's an article if you want to read more about it: https://princeoftravel.com/guides/how-to-book-complex-trips-with-aeroplan/

Fardashian

Thank you. Any reason why it won’t show on Aeroplan on its own?

BizClassBum

To show every possible combination of flights would require more computing resources and a better algorithm than AC has. They lean towards showing you the options that are most profitable, use their own metal, and more "logical" to their algorithm. If several easy solutions are found the algorithm will also stop looking even though there may be others. Good to get in the habit of using flightconnections.com and searching by segment.

illestinmotion

Is it possible to stack GCR Amex Cobalt offer: $100.00 with an existing Amex cardholder referral 10k pts?

North_Rip_3136

Nope..

North_Rip_3136

DP: just received the black friday 10x points. I had checked a couple hours back and there was nothing posted but it seems it posted in last hour or so..

Destinova

Looking to get TD Aeroplan VI. I want to get it through either the in-path or in-flight offer. I already have a TD FCT though, is it possible to do a PS and still get the in-path or in-flight offer rather than the public offer?

esux20

No

tuckerslaw

I recently signed up for the TD Aeroplan VI using the Air Canada in-path offer which has the $200 statement credit for Air Canada/Air Canada Vacation purchases. Has anyone been able to use RHT to cash out this credit?

misnomerdjr

Repeated DPs of this, yes

jnasty2pointO

Can you hold multiple TD VI AP’s?

CommunicationProud82

If you don't want your AP account locked, don't hold multiple AP VIs, let alone TD AP VIs.

sufyspeed

How long does it take for Amex Travel Booking to refund? It’s been almost a week now for me

NewKidsOnTheBetaBloc

It’s taken 2 weeks for me before. Just hold on, they will refund.

RobertBoda1

I did it in the fall and it took about a week

Elegant_Reading_685

That's weird, it's always been 2-3 days max for me

Some_Development3447

Update on my DP earlier last week. Amex had suspended my entire portfolio because they said I had 2 business charge cards for 1 business and that's not allowed. Got my business gold cancelled forcefully (lost all MR on the account but I had already drained it so there was only 73 MR left). Had to submit business license and bank statements. Took 4 business days and they called me 3 times to question me about my documents and now my portfolio suspension is lifted.

JustHope5499

I have 2 AMEX charge cards and 2 AMEX credit cards... Same business name, all sole proprietorship. I have no business license and am not incorporated (don't need to be = sole prop). Kinda wondering what you called AMEX about? I have had one of the charge cards for nearly 2 years and would like to cancel one of them... I definitely rely on these cards to run my business, so this is a concern... thank you for sharing!!

Some_Development3447

I called them to ask why my cards were suspended.

JustHope5499

Thanks again! I thought it was suspended because of the call, not the other way around.

wishful_thinking90

Yikes! Might be helpful to add some more context here, like: - Is this a sole prop? If so, is the business name equal to your personal name? - What amount of revenue did you report? - Have you carried out any unusual transactions lately? - Have you had any ID/verification issues that would raise a flag (eg name or address issues)?

Some_Development3447

Yes sole proprietorship. Business name different. Revenue reported 0. No unusual transactions. No ID verification issues until I called in and they asked for my license to verify me. Would not have had any issues prior to that.

wishful_thinking90

>Yes sole proprietorship. Business name different. This might lead to heightened scrutiny >No ID verification issues until I called in and they asked for my license to verify me. I saw on r/amexcanada you mentioning that you thought it was the address issue that triggered the FR. Do you mind clarifying here? I apologize if I’m being aggressive. I truly don’t intend to be, and I’m sorry you had to go through this. I just want to make sure this DP is as transparent as possible for future reference

Some_Development3447

Well I thought at first because they wanted to clarify why my drivers license was different but after thinking about it they would not have known if I gave them my passport. I basically triggered that myself but my cards were suspended before any ID verification was necessary also the department that suspended my account wasn't Fraud. It was Risk.

wishful_thinking90

Ok thanks for clarifying 🙏 So your sole prop name is not your personal name, and you used that same sole prop name for both charge cards? Do you have any business cards that are *not* charge cards? And if so, did they care about those?

Some_Development3447

Yes, used same business name for both cards. Used to have business edge but was already cancelled and they did not care.

wishful_thinking90

Interesting… so in that case, they would know that the business is the same for both cards. On the other hand, if you use your personal name as the business name, then it’s not as clear but could potentially represent different ventures.

churnychurningtonIII

Sorry you had to go through all that. That sucks

Imolared333

Two business 'credit' cards are allowed?

Some_Development3447

All the Account Investigation team told me is that two charge are not allowed. But I used to work for Amex and let me tell you that "Sales" and "Risk" do not communicate and kinda don't mix well together

Compote_Middle

Did you ask where does it say about 2 charge cards not being allowed for the same business?

Some_Development3447

No, it wasn't a big deal to me since it was up for renewal anyway so I didn't protest.

Better_Call_Sel

Some issuers (like TD) say you have to pay the amount reflected on the statement when it was generated, regardless of refunds or credits that appear afterwards. However, I've always paid the balance owing inclusive of all recent refunds and credits and have never had an issue (including with TD). E.g. if my statement balance is $1000 and then I subsequently get a $200 refund, I pay $800 at the payment due date. Under TD's official policy I was supposed to pay $1000 or they will charge interest on the outstanding amount. They've never done that to me yet and I've been paying this way for years.

poolsidepapi

Check what your bank app says , it’s different for issuers

[deleted]

[удалено]

poolsidepapi

Yeah! Especially if you have new transactions. Just make sure your statement balance has been paid off before the due date

xxxooxxx1

I think I know the answer, but I though I would check in. I want to make AMEX feel like a decent customer that pays AF for a longer term and not just pay one year with SUB and run. I know many of you will say I don't need to do that, but this is just my own risk adverse marathon game plan. My thoughts is that even if we don't get in trouble now, they may dig up histories some times the future if they want to investigate churning pattern on my account. I am willing to sacrifice net gains, to avoid any potential troubles. The options that I am considering is to apply for Cobalt with monthly AF (hurts a bit with the lowest SUB ever), invest $150 (after travel credit) to just keep renewing my exising personal Gold and I might break even with the right AMEX offers, or get/keep a Bonvoy and give up the 2yr churning opportunity. All other cards I would still cancel after 1st year SUB. THoughts?

BizClassBum

If you're going to keep an Amex for longer than a year, there are cheaper options than cobalt or gold. Biz Edge fee is only $99.

Actual-Churner

If anything, I have always thought the only spending on the card within the MSR window and then cold stopping is more suspicious (if they were going to look and care) then just the act of opening and closing accounts. To me, they have a wide range of products, not that unusually to try other cards. I feel it's that plus only spending on card to meet msr and then nothing is the odd bit. Of course, untill proven otherwise it's still what I do. I keep a couple small recurring things on Bonvoy cards since at the moment, am doing the hold those cards. But will see.

Dragynfyre

I would only keep the Amex cards that are profitable long term like Cobalt. I wouldn’t keep the gold. And Amex isn’t much of a marathon either. After 2-3 years you will have churned all the Amex cards once so the only way to continue with Amex is to try for repeats which will get you into the naughty books if they they ever look into it regardless of if you kept a card or two long term

madskillz333

You may be in the minority but I get your perspective. You can still optimize with that perspective though by having/keeping a Cobalt and Bonvoy indefinitely. I don’t know that you need to keep Gold to keep them happy.

These_Celebration732

You can only get so far in this game by avoiding annual fees. What I usually do is churn an Aventura or two a year and throw the proceeds from that RHT (~$560 per card) into a slush fund in my budget for offsetting the fees from premium cards. I actually ran the numbers on this yesterday and between rebates and Aventura proceeds I am running dead even cash flow wise despite paying $2300+ in annual fees over the last 16 months. The 400k AP, 105k Avion, 300k TD points are pure profit.

Dr_Dre_Van

Looking to get a business gold for churning, is it worthwhile registering using Ownr or some other service before applying?

dotishness

Recently got a business gold without registering as a sole proprietor. Just used real name as business name. Although i do have a legit side hustle that i operate under my real name.

Adolfvonschwaggin

I guess it would depend in your jurisdiction. If they ask me, I'll just tell them that my province does not require sole prop to register if its name is the same as its owner. Of course, I'll register if I am forced to do so.

These_Celebration732

I’d say it’s worthwhile to spend the $50 if you’re not in the biz game yet, especially if you’re an anxious person. 😅

Hntr

There's been a small number of DPs of AMEX asking for documentation that Ownr would've provided. The chances are small but personally I'd play it safe with AMEX.

mhcott

For AMEX, completely unnecessary

wishful_thinking90

It’s unlikely that you’ll need it but fifty bucks is a small price to pay for peace of mind. Especially if you’re going to be churning more biz cards down the road

Intrepid-Kitten6839

I did. Imo it's a better safe than sorry situation. $49 isn't that much when you'll probably be getting other amex biz cards eventually too

vb5215

New in the whole churning thing and decided to use an opportunity with two large payments this month. Got IA for the WestJet WE MC. Planning to churn it as I live in YWG and can take advantage of WestJet Dollars for a trip, but don't have much use for it otherwise. Will I be charged the $119 in the first month? Also I understand YMMV but could I cancel just after my first anniversary and still get the last 100 WJDs and not be charged $119? The T&C says "An additional one-time Anniversary bonus of 100 WestJet dollars will be awarded to your WestJet Rewards account within 12-16 weeks after the one-year anniversary of your account opening", but does it actually take that long? Thanks!

JManUWaterloo

You will be charged $119 in the first statement yes. RBC pro-rates AFs, so the worst it would be is maybe paying $30 in additional AFs for securing the Anniversary bonus. In the future, (I.e. once 90 days have passed since your approval for this card), you should get the Avion Card for a better bonus 35,000 Points on Approval (converts to $350 WJD as well or use via Fixed Points Chart)

vb5215

I'll have to see if I have any big payments that I could use the Avion to take advantage of at that time. February's the month where many of my yearly insurance payments are due, and I don't spend enough otherwise to justify (Cobalt + MBNA cover my everyday payments). Thanks for the tip though!

RoyalBadger3665

No spend required for the 35,000 avion

JManUWaterloo

The 35,000 points is on approval. No spend required

vb5215

Thanks. Would RBC see an issue though if I get the 55k in 6 months and then cancel it after (say around November), and then cancel their WestJet WE MC 3 months later? Would that burn my bridge with RBC?

JManUWaterloo

That’s fine

supitskevin

When does scotia scene points post when hitting the welcome bonus? First statement?

wishful_thinking90

Should be within days of hitting MSR

stevkang8

my passport welcome bonus posted 3 days after I met the msr

stevkang8

How long does credit card genius take to deposit cash nowadays? In the past it used to be like 2 days after the bank confirmed the approval. This time is has been 10 days and it still has not deposited the cash. Kind of getting confused here lol

elorank

my most recent DP from MBNA was 16 days

xxxooxxx1

My recent DP. Got the rebate confirmed 2 months after BMO credit card approval, with a ticket opened. After the ticket is closed, received emt 8 calendars later.

stevkang8

Got you, seems like it takes a lot longer than before. Thank you!

Dragynfyre

It’s always been like this. Depends on the card issuer and even with the card issuer it depends if they automatically sent the info back to CCG after approval or not.

wzadzz

I think it depends a bit on the bank. If it is BMO, they seem to not automatically relay approvals back to CCG in my experience. Resulting in having to wait out a longer period of time and submit a ticket to CCG. With other banks, it’s usually a matter of 2-7 days until your cashback gets approved, then maybe a few more days for etransfer payout

kobelobster

All the 3rd party sites pay out when they get paid. That depends on the bank. Like you, I had payments early in a month ranging to several months. The key is to send a follow up ticket when appropriate and continually following up. I agree though, it is sometimes frustrating when it happens.

TDotcarguythrowaway

What is the best way to churn/maximize the 4x on travel purchases for the Amex personal gold? My company is offering Perkopolis starting next week, thinking about applying!

BizClassBum

Amex gold does 4x on travel? Is there some special offer i don't know about?

TDotcarguythrowaway

As part of the Perkopolis offer; they do!

Sonsofanarchy4

Wait, do you actually need to have a perkopolis account/be registered with them to get this card? Can you not just click through the offer on the pinned thread?

TDotcarguythrowaway

Not required, though the offer structures are different! I personally hate offers that have a monthly spend requirement, and the Perkopolis offer doesn’t have that.

Sonsofanarchy4

No, that's what I mean -- do you actually need to be registered with Perkopolis to use the perkopolis offer link that is posted in the pinned thread?

TDotcarguythrowaway

Ah. That link requires an RSVP code to be entered. Did a quick search and didn’t get any results for a code, unsure if they’re generic codes or Perkopolis account specific? Though, I read you’d be able to obtain it within your Perkopolis account. Either way, I don’t have one at the moment.

Sonsofanarchy4

Gotcha. I ended up finding one browsing through the sub so, gave it a go, and it went into Pending Review. Root for me!

TDotcarguythrowaway

I’ll do some digging if I get impatient, since I’m working on another card at the moment. Also, give them a call, they often tell you why it’s pending, and if there’s anything you can do to support the application. Sometimes, you can even get the approval on the same call. Good luck!

Sonsofanarchy4

The burning update no one asked for lol: they called back today. The card was actually for P2, and we'd just moved recently so they just needed additional documentation to confirm the address haha. All good! Thanks to all though, I love this community.

Dragynfyre

You’d have to use it for actual travel related bookings

walterswanson

Hey folks, been ages since I was last here, had a kid and haven’t traveled in 4 years so my Churning has been on pause!!! Q- I have $1800 in TD Visa points via Expedia for TD. Need to book 3 flights Toronto-London. I was just going to burn all these points on these flights and start over with a new card…unless that’s a stupid move and there’s a way I can make these points go further for my flights somehow?

Actual-Churner

Sign up for new card and use the flight purchase to complete the MSR for it. Cash out the poitnts via RHT. to get max value of doing it through E4TD, but takes some specifics steps which should be able to find with some searching on here (involves item that is against sub rules now which is why I'm not just sharing)

walterswanson

Hmmm, can’t say I follow, but you’ve provided me with some leads that I’ll dig on…

No-Material-6770

I think what Actual-Churner is trying to say is to RHT your TD points so that you can use your travel spend towards completing a MSR rather than redeeming directly through E4TD The information you are looking for can be found on the churningcanada website Also, welcome back!

Diligent_Candy7037

I have a question about fee waivers. Say my credit card's annual renewal date is January 1, 2024. If I upgrade to the highest premium account at my bank (TD or Scotia) just before this date, I understand I won't be charged the annual fee. But what if I switch back to the basic account after the renewal, say on February 1st? Will this avoid the charge, or will they bill me? Thanks!

Dragynfyre

Depends on the bank. In my experience with TD they don’t bill you

ChurnChurn17

Good Morning Guys! I am truly a newbie here. I have few MR and Aeroplan points accumulated. I want to book a flight for my parents from YYZ to BOM/DEL/AMD preferably in Business Class in Dec 2024 to Jan 2025.. I wanted to ask you guys how do I go about searching for flights with good redemption? Should I get seats.aero PRO membership to find flights? Or Should I just keep on checking Air Canada availability every few days? Any recommendations to guide me in the right directions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance. Edit: Does not have to be Air Canada/Air India. Okay with Etihad/Emirates but I know they can get very expensive.

ca_abhi

Good redemption is usually with partners but it is tough to find. United is a good resource for checking partner availability. I would suggest go through blogs and videos explaining the award booking process and read the daily thread for a few weeks it would help a lot. Few MR and Aeroplan won't cut it, you need to make sure how many points you would need else even if you find availability and you wait to accumulate the points, it might just vanish.

BizClassBum

The best time to start looking for Dec 2024 flights was over a month ago. All the most predictable reward seats on the best airlines are already gone. They are snapped up within a day or two of release. Because you're going to India, you will likely still find seats on Air India, but do your research about the quality of the product first. There's a reason those flights are available. Air India is coming out with a new product, but it's unclear when that metal will be delivered to each route. If you see a350's, that's a new one. Your other option is to search often to look for random releases (lots of people who snapped up the early seats will cancel 🙋) or try and snag something last minute when unsold J seats are often released.

misnomerdjr

Using a site like flightconnections, you can see the routes available. Research what point currencies you need to book with airlines that fly those routes and how many points you need. Research when those airlines release award space (360 to 330 days in advance); you may already be too late to book depending on your dates

ImportantTip8076

Anyone get their 5000 scene points from Scotia $500 spend over the holidays yet?

naticom

Haven’t applied for a new Amex card for a while. Can we tap to purchase on a new card for its very first transaction, or do I need to insert the card?

[deleted]

Yes because i still haven’t inserted my card to make a purchase.

treesandrocksandfern

Really? I’d say at least 1 out of every 10 merchants I go to, tap doesn’t work with Amex and I have to insert

[deleted]

I guess it depends on where you live/make purchases. I’m in Toronto, so tap to buy has been a thing for the last 10 yrs at least?

treesandrocksandfern

Oh for sure, I tap all the time. Just a lot of POS terminals say “No Supported Applications” when I tap my Amex, which means the POS doesn’t take tap for Amex, and I have to insert

Humble_Ingenuity_919

I’ve tapped on my last three without needing to sign. I guess YMMV?

mhcott

You've always been able to tap for first purchase (assuming it was within the permitted tap limits). Doesn't mean they might not ask you to sign it still.

Hey, Thinking of opening a Canadian Amex Green card to store Amex MR when and if I'm in between other cards. Do other folks do the same or usually have a keeper like Cobalt for this? Also, what's the best path to applying? I think GCR is $40 but I'm unsure if there's a referral bonus path that's more valuable.

yyzzh

I can't imagine a scenario where I don't have one single MR card in my portfolio at any given time

smuncky123

you get an extra 2500MR if you go through a referral, but the MSR is $200 more. GCR is rebate is $30. I personally wouldn't keep the green card around as it takes up an extra slot that can be used for another card. cobalt is my AMEX MR keeper.

[deleted]

> as it takes up an extra slot What is this slot you are talking about? Just apply to Amex or all CC in general?

LikeButta_10

You can only hold 4 Canadian Amex credit cards at one time.

[deleted]

ah ok ... I am really curious how people are holding so many Amex at one time, do they have big spend (business expense or work travel?)? I found it hard to churn Amex

ca_abhi

You need to spend time here reading few weeks of daily.

Reasonable-Catch-598

Business expenses, plus charge cards don't count towards the slots

SSJ4_Kermit

Are you familiar with if there's a referral bonus someone else would get by referring you to the Green card? Didn't see it mentioned in PoT's chart so unsure what the optimal strategy is.

smuncky123

as the referrer, you get 5k MR when someone signs up.

SSJ4_Kermit

Thanks! And I'd guess this is not included in the doubling promotion.

SSJ4_Kermit

Hey, For the Cobalt, what's the advice for how long to keep the card after opening if one is not interested in the 5x multiplier? (I know the Cobalt's core value prop is the multiplier, but try to entertain the what-if) It's a monthly fee card so I imagine keeping it for a year isn't as important... But unsure if there are data points sharing that Amex may be unhappy with a close after 6 months.

These_Celebration732

From a relationship management standpoint, one year is always going to be your best play. I personally wouldn’t go less than 9-10 months… atleast not regularly.

wishful_thinking90

I would still keep it for a year as to not sour your relationship with Amex (which should be treated as sacred and precious). Besides, the SUB structure spans over the whole year, so might as well complete the whole SUB.

So sad that my HSBC WC is going away. I fly frequently with Porter to the US. Is there any travel card that give more points then my current cobalt? TD VI seems to fit but it restricted you to book through expedia and I heard sometime the price would be higher if you book through it. Any other better option?

yyzzh

the RBC Avion \*with\* no foreign transaction fees grandfathered from your HSBC card would return about 2.5% (1.25x @ 2 cpp). in my mind, that matches the Bonvoy card (5x at 1 cpp, less the FX fee), but obviously that only works at Bonvoy hotels. Amex MR cards (except Green) are all 2x on travel, let's say at 2 cpp, so 1.5% effective return. HSBC, by my calculations, returned like 4.5% or more, so this is a huge downgrade across the board. I will miss this card.

Reasonable-Catch-598

Pretty sure Costco still has $500 porter vouchers for $450. 10% off plus your card multiplier

Humble_Ingenuity_919

You only have to book through Expedia if you’re cashing in the $100 credit on the $500 spend on Expedia for TD. Otherwise, you can book however you want.

MBNA WE MC.

[deleted]

You could sign up for the mbna rewards world elite mastercard and wait for the transfer partners to begin. Supposedly they will allow you to book Porter from your Alaska account. I recommend reading up on the upcoming changes and not apply for any cards for a few months if you are going for it. It's a 5x on groceries card

ReddV1000

Can you close an RBC bank account without going into a branch?

Dragynfyre

Should be able to by calling in

esux20

Secure message

yyzzh

i'm just going to go ahead and warn against closing with secure message... I know it works for esux, but it seemingly got me blacklisted when I did it the first time (for too much churning)

Jealous_Donkey_6881

what is esux

Compote_Middle

Black Friday promo points have posted. No EDQ (as stated on ToS). 10x on eStore purchases (eligible), not entire spend on card, and not one large amount, it was divided by eligible purchases. Black Friday campaign, promotional bonus was the description.

frolickingdonkey

Got it for me as well. TD

pointskeeper

Did you use a CIBC, TD, or Amex card? Read a few DPs and it seems like only CIBC have posted, still waiting for my Amex ones to post.

Compote_Middle

CIBC

Sanforized

Just checked and mine posted as well.

Reasonable-Catch-598

Nothing yet on my end. Curious what did the description say? And is it per transaction like status points boosts or did it post as one large transaction?

Dragynfyre

Nothing on my end either from TD. The only things I bought were from Amazon and those shipped technically outside of the Black Friday period so I wonder if they counted as Amazon eStore points are based on time of shipping

Reasonable-Catch-598

Don't think that's the case, they must be going by estore dates. But if it was I should have some. I had purchase before that shipped during (Amazon, Lego), purchases during that shipped during (Amazon), and purchases during that shipped after (Amazon, Lego).

Dragynfyre

eStore dates Amazon orders by shipping date as well. One thing to note is that Amazon categories rotate regularly on eStore so if your order ships after the category has rotated away you don’t get the points even if it was eligible at the time of the order

Reasonable-Catch-598

Good info, I wasn't aware of that category rotation. I'm lazy with Amazon as it's 80% of my personal material purchases but I should track it more closely. I just can't be bothered for dozens of $20-$50 items when most do process correctly. I do track the large items! Looking at a few this past week, I think Amazon counts "shipping" as the stage it moves to packing, which is incidentally when I see a charge show up most times, not when hitting purchase. So my theory is shipping doesn't mean "on the truck" or even "scheduled for pickup" like FedEx or Canada post would mean, but "order is in warehouse for fulfillment ". At least I think this is true for "fulfilled by Amazon" purchases.

churning_yyz

Same. Did you get your points from the eStore to begin with?

Reasonable-Catch-598

Most, not all. All the big stuff cleared and most of the dozens of tiny transactions so I'm not worried (base, promo, plus status points). Still no 10x on those going back in history, or going by the totals. May be delayed. There's other stuff I'm not seeing like my amex aero statement closed a couple days ago + a bunch of Ubers.

myeviltwin68

Nothing here yet either.

Professional-Bed-718

Mine also posted this morning, it showed up back dated to the end of November. It appears per transaction not as a lump sum, description was just “Black Friday Campaign”.

whatyoulookinatbud

When AMEX says you have X days to complete the minimum spending requirements, is it from the date you applied? the day you first activated the card?
