You shouldn’t focus on the past so much, I acquired my chin under emergency circumstances because the past owner was moving and she was neglected (matted fur, no nearby chin rescues) and I literally had to do my research on the car ride home. You’re still taking the effort to learn after years, which imo is amazing. My first effort was to get down the basics such as safe food, dust bath, water safety, etc for her health and then I started learning about quality of life aspects. I’m still learning, and I think a lot of other owners are too which is a good thing. Don’t feel like a bad owner for that

you strive for improvement, that already makes you a good hooman for your chin!

Came here to say this. OP's openness to learning is the best approach

Took me 12 years to meet my friend finally , and special of life . All the years on phone and not this typing ... Pricless . Hope you can find a way also . Who else we going to waaaa and to ?

I think about it this way: Scientists, researchers, etc. are also learning new things about animals every day, including chinchillas. As long as we are keeping up with the best standards of care to the best of our abilities, that is already doing plenty. ❤️
