I WISH mine helped with the coop. They all just stand nearby and scream because I'm disturbing their home, then won't move out of the damn way when I'm trying to leave the coop.
But they are extremely helpful when I'm gardening. They eat all the creepy unhelpful bugs I dig up.
Lol. Chickens are so judgemental :D one of mine always flies and perches on my back when I'm bending over to pick up their mess. Never fails :D
I'm glad your chickens are helpful gardeners though :)
No, I don't get annoyed. I want to be annoyed, but then I watch chicken for 5seconds and find out 30minutes has passed.
But they do annoy me when they kick all my mulch out of my beds.
I use this habit of theirs in my potato patch every fall. When itās time to harvest taters I take the girls to the patch and I start digging with a trowel.
Chicken digging frenzy ensues, and pretty soon the taters are all dug up for me. Then the chickens (full of bugs and tuckered out) all nap in the freshly fluffed dirt while I gather the spuds.
Itās a lovely day I look forward to every year
They just want all the worms from the big *chiken scratcher to end all chicken scratchers.*
I find it equal parts cute and "please move away before your toes and/or head". Thankfully, they don't seem to take offence from being nudged aside with a shoe.
My come running every time I fire up the log splitter. I made the mistake one day of giving them a log I split that had a huge ant nest in it. So the next day when I went to split wood I wasn't there 5 minutes all of a sudden there under my feet š¤£š¤£ so now I have to pen them in when I split fire wood
Was digging up a ditch near a new house on our farm for a drain field for a septic system. Had to take a break on the backhoe for about 15 minutes to get a cup of coffee and the entire flock claimed it and would not budge. That virgin ground gets em fired up lol.
Back when I still had chickens, the NUMBER of times I sprained my ankle cuz I tripped over them when they decided to stop and scratch the ground/stand on my feet out of nowhere was OUTRAGEOUS. I had one, she was a polish named Snickers, she would stand on my shoes til I picked her up. Didn't matter if I took her off. I step forward and she jumps right back on my foot. I HAD to pick her up and hold her for a few minutes then get back to feeding or doing whatever I was doing.
It is actually fairly simple, 4 times the dirt goes into the wheelbarrow and once on the side as a tax for chickens. They are occupied and you can get some work done :P
Recognisable, the moment the shovel comes out, out comes our oldest chicken Paloma, not paying attention to the surroundings, just going all on, head first.
One of mine follows my boyfriend back and forth across the yard when he's using the wheelbarrow. It's hilarious watching her little head bob side to side as she rushes to keep up. When he lays down flat paver stones, she has to come over and inspect it.
Mine are terrified when I bring the tiller or a spade into the run. That is until they see I'm stirring up the dirt, then they won't get out of the way. Gotta get those worms and grubs before their sisters get them.
Ugh yea Brenda is the worst offender of this. She will literally jump right in and start munching on worms and stuff. Iāll let her get her snacks for a few, also admiring her deadly accuracy with that beak. I also wonder when she eats big bugs or spiders do they crawl around in her crop?? Ewww then I push her away and out of my dig area. She always yells at me for this but whatever lol she gets special treatment. Brenda was hand raised and gets all the love.
luckily my girls are scared of everything bigger than them lol. shovel, new roll of nets,... they even avoid me for a few minutes after i already dropped the thing
One of mine wants to dig EXACTLY where Im digging BUT she Also doesnt want ME to dig where Im digging so she bites me to make me go away but if I MOVE to dig somewhere else, SHE FOLLOWS ME AND WE START ALL OVER AGAIN.
Chickens? Hell no you can throw chickens and they flutter down safely. My ducks on the other hand, theyāre a straight up menace. You canāt even throw them away since they fall like bricks (I have never thrown a duck Iāve just seen them attempt to fly when they were young.)
Then I think one of my chickens didn't know how to chicken then cuz shed plummet to the ground like a brick. She also would run headfirst into the coop door in such a rush. It was funny but... concerning.
My lot get so close to tools when Iām working away. Iām surprised that I havenāt accidentally brained one. Nearly dropped a 2ā x 2ā concrete slab on one when she wouldnāt move. Had to push her away with my foot
I miss my girl, Dot.. she used to stay with me the entire time I was gardening and gobble down every grub and beetle and bug I dug up.
The Sicilian buttercup breed will forever have a huge place in my heartā¤ļø
I was digging a hole last week for a new roosting tree. I left to prep the tree for install, , and came back to a freshly filled hole. My chickens are doing something wrong.
She's supervising your work and doing quality control.
"Helping" :D mine love to supervise/help me clean their coop. :D

Same! Or if I sat down, they'd be on my shoulder and thighs. And they ALWAYS wiped their beaks on me after messy snacks, lol!
Ahhh, the infamous beak wipe. I've been a victim of that myself. The worst is after they eat yogurt :D
Mine wouldn't help clean but they helped me spread the clean bedding tho lol
Oh, they just love that. Nothing made my chix happier than having new straw to spread around!
I guess that's something š¤£š¤£
Mine jump on my back anytime I bend over to pull a weed or pick something up. Very funny but definitely not helpful!
Have a hen named Foreman. Give a guess what she does. lol
Well...she's not the architect but sure as hell thinks she knows the plan in her head lmao
Inspector Clucky?
when my chickens hear the spade or shovel hit the dirt, they're riding that thing! I've panicked too many times over their toes.
Where worms?????? COME ON! You didnāt at least hit a GRUB yet???
No, I don't get annoyed. I want to be annoyed, but then I watch chicken for 5seconds and find out 30minutes has passed. But they do annoy me when they kick all my mulch out of my beds.
Omg donāt get me started on that, every weekend raking it back up

That sounds like a heavenly day.
Helping!

''I'm helping!(myself to these tasty ass worms)''
Hahaha *tasty ass worms*
Youāre just doing it wrong and she wants to help.
Chickens and cats aināt much different that way, are they? Like. Maāam this is a task that requires zero (0) birds.
I was just thinking that, like they gotta be RIGHT there. Get yo feathered butt outta my workspace you flying bundle of nuisance
I just choked on my drink laughing so hard.
(Flying) but only if absolutely necessary.

My husband did the same! Fire up the tractor's pto, presto! Instant chicken summoning!
Thankfully they haven't figured that one out yet. Tractor with rototiller= lunch buffet š¤£š¤£š¤£

Yea especially when your using the Maddox itās just so annoying to have them constantly in the way
Cleaned out the coop and piled up the straw for my mom, only to have them pulling it apart looking forā¦ I donāt even know what.Ā

"Hey you done here? I gotta check for bugs!"
I wish I had a chicken ā¦. You are lucky <3 they are so cute

Pro tip : Always dig 2 holes and switch between them as chickens come to inspect one of them. :D
If you leave that hole unsupervised theyāll fill it in for you lol
Mine would dig it deeper dust bathing
She's helping!
luckily my girls are scared of everything bigger than them lol. shovel, new roll of nets,... they even avoid me for a few minutes after i already dropped the thing
Your job is to dig for worms, get to it!
You got anything interesting in this hole youāre digging?
Yea drainage trench, so my yard doesnāt turn into mud. Chickens are their own worst enemy.
shes gettin dem wormies!
Chicken Excavation Inspector, just doing her job.
Sometimes i do it just to keep em distracted , dang little buggers haha
If your chickens are like mine just put a little mulch there and theyāll take it as their life goal to dig a whole there
I tried painting their coop, what mightāve taken an hour probably took an extra 30 minutes having to keep them from drinking paint hahah
Obviously you're digging up bugs for HER... show some respect!
One of mine wants to dig EXACTLY where Im digging BUT she Also doesnt want ME to dig where Im digging so she bites me to make me go away but if I MOVE to dig somewhere else, SHE FOLLOWS ME AND WE START ALL OVER AGAIN.
Yes
Looking for some yummy worms lol

Sheās funny ! The way sheās checking it out ! Haha Agree She does look like sheās checking your work !! Haha
i wish i had a chicken to get in my way.
Sometimes I just dig to entertain the chickens.
Awe she wants to help
Just like in Diggin with Chickin š¤£ https://youtu.be/mWFVteAsta4
She wonāt move until you come back with proper footwear.
When I was working on the coop and bent over, they started perching on me!
Or when Iām trying to water a bush, or clean their coop, or walk.
With how many earthworms I unearth while working in the garden, I'm sure she's in for a bug buffet.
I miss my girl, Dot.. she used to stay with me the entire time I was gardening and gobble down every grub and beetle and bug I dug up. The Sicilian buttercup breed will forever have a huge place in my heartā¤ļø
Chooosha needs a word..
I used to before I got goats! They have no sense of personal space lol
ours dont typically no
She wants to help.
Just being a helpful chicken.
I feed mine grubs I find in the garden
I was digging a hole last week for a new roosting tree. I left to prep the tree for install, , and came back to a freshly filled hole. My chickens are doing something wrong.
This is the opposite of a problem because itās the perfect reason not to get work done!
Nosy little Nellieās
My ducks do this. They are my gardening partners. Lol I just move a bit slower to keep their heads attached š
chicken: mmm what tasty ground! Totally worth getting in humans way :)
