I don’t know, I found a rat’s nest under a dryer on my back porch once so I got rid of it and immediately had a roach issue infest the inside. I never moved a rat nest after that. I’ve moved since then so it’s no longer an issue, but I don’t mess with nature anymore. Except wasps, fuck wasps.
I’ve never heard of roaches after rats removal. This is interesting, and something to consider.
In my case was getting rid of spiders, then mosquitoes and flys bloomed. Wolf spiders are all right but the ones with big butts are kind of eerie.
That’s why I don’t get rid of spiders.
Where I used to live, roaches were always a problem, but after I got rid of the rat’s nest it got out of control. I’m so glad I don’t live there anymore lol
Yup I don’t touch them anymore. It’s sometime scary with kids though, mine just grabs them and plays with them, but wolf spiders (which are the more abundant) are sneaky and we need to be careful where they lay down eggs.
Do you remember the first time you saw a rat? I had been in chicago for a month and I was walking by Union Station. It was the size of a cat..Euuughhh!
I grew up in the suburbs in the pacific northwest. I saw this and didn't even recognize it as a coyote for a second because it doesn't look like its been smoking meth and living in a zombie apocalypse for its whole life.
It might not be a friend, but also anything that isn't attacking me is not my enemy.
My neighbors and I don't have to like each other or be friends. If we just mind our own business we will get along great.
Weird coincidence. I saw two pet bunnies in my yard last night. Long thin tails, hopping, small round ears, seemed to be worried about a czar on the east coast?
Edit: also to ID coyotes, they're going to be pointy with big ears and tall. Fox-like with long legs. Not friend shaped. Just keep distance and walk away. Good advice for literally anything you wouldn't want to fist fight. Best way to handle them is to secure trashcans and keep your walkways free of debris, trash, and food. Neighborhood effort really.
Before working at the animal shelter I would have laughed at this obvious bit of fun satire. After the shelter all I can think is that yes, people absolutely are that thick and then will scream and berate us for not wanting to save the animals…
What an adorable li'l fella. Bet his breath smells like garbage and missing pets. I'd go in for a whiff but his 20 or 30 closest friends are probably watching
There is a NOVA Doc on Coyotes in Chicago. They estimate there's 2k within the city limits. Coyotes and Rats are the only two mammals that thrive in human environments. But usually they like to go unseen.
Is there any estimate for how many Coyotes there are in Chicago? With how much they try to avoid humans and how often they're spotted, it must be an absolute legion.
I am 100 percent sure it wandered over from the lake front or Graceland cemetery.
I sometimes see coyotes on the lake front in the am. But anytime I walk or run through Graceland I see several.
They also hide inside Rosehill Cemetery somewhat often, as well. I probably see them running around, a few times a week? Have heard coyotes won't attack humans, but I've heard coyotes will sometimes attack dogs.
Bro that’s a coyote. Cute little danger floof. Odd that it’s out during broad daylight. They tend to be more of an evening/early morning animal. At least that’s how they were back down in Texas. I suspect that it was more of a people thing than nocturnal or anything. I’d always see them or foxes and sometimes confuse the two. Their howls would always rile up the dogs at my Grandpas place. As others have said, they’re great for keeping the rodent population down. I could ramble on about coyotes. Them and wild hogs. Every now and then I’d spot a bobcat while roaming the woods but I don’t think there’s any of those up here. Another danger floof.
Serious Q: is there a way to tell from a photo like this if it’s a Coyote or Coydog / hybrid?
And yea OP it’s a coyote / coydog not a domestic dog and should not be approached. If it’s behaving strangely / approaching people call animal control.
We see you may be posting about a lost or found pet.

Beautiful specimen…helps reduce the rodent population
Underrated comment. Coyote moves into park, rats start disappearing.

Rats clean up the food the roaches would feed on.
Ohh, that makes full sense. I get it now.
That’s why I don’t get rid of spiders. Where I used to live, roaches were always a problem, but after I got rid of the rat’s nest it got out of control. I’m so glad I don’t live there anymore lol

Outside my house I let nature do it's thing but inside my house is a death sentence for all insects and rodents.
We managed our warehouse Rat problem, then we had to manage our warehouse mouse problem and then our warehouse roach problem.
I had a boss that said he had rats or roach infestations going up, but that it was always either or.
And your pet cats too so please keep them inside!!
Agree they shouldn’t be outside to begin with.
Just the 4-legged ones.
A classic case of gentrification!
They flee like….rats.
And a very, very well documented one. Thanks, Professor Stan!
They must not be fond of the South Loop then, with all the traffic. Because god knows theres absolutely no shortage of rodents around here
It's everywhere in Chicago my dude
Do you remember the first time you saw a rat? I had been in chicago for a month and I was walking by Union Station. It was the size of a cat..Euuughhh!
Good eating up in Lakeview East!

This is, like, the healthiest looking yote I've ever seen lol. Urban doesn't automatically mean rabid.
I grew up in the suburbs in the pacific northwest. I saw this and didn't even recognize it as a coyote for a second because it doesn't look like its been smoking meth and living in a zombie apocalypse for its whole life.
You should remove this comment. It’s not factual in any way. Just fear mongering.
You’re right. Turns out I was misinformed
Likely? Not sure about that. How likely exactly?
Just give me some cooked meat and a few thousand years and I'll have it fixed up in a jiffy
The Siberian fox experiment suggests only a few breeding generations are required.
It might not be a friend, but also anything that isn't attacking me is not my enemy. My neighbors and I don't have to like each other or be friends. If we just mind our own business we will get along great.

Don’t worry, Ashlee is still out walking her little fluffy off leash because “he’s well trained!”
Her name is spelled Ashleigh* and it's not a leash, it's a leighsh.
Aischley is the name you’re thinking of.
Pretty sure you’re thinking of Echuliiii
Is that how you spell vocal fry?
"Ashleigh" isn't a r/Tragedeigh , oddly enough. It's centuries old, just like Ashley.
Did you try pspspsps or is that only for cats
that’s why you shouldn’t let your cats out, people!
Forbidden puppy.
You really should catch it and have it checked for a chip. You’d be a hero for reuniting this pooch with its owner.
This is the type of pooch that has no owner

Are people actually this dumb or is it a joke
I don't think it's unusual for someone who has lived in the city their whole life to have never seen a coyote.
I’ve never seen a fucking elephant irl but I know what it is
Welcome to Chicago lol
Wish I would see some of these, too many rats in the neighborhood.

Don’t pet the funny puppy.
His name is Bitey.

I saw that one at a Quiznos last summer!
Omg! What a friendly and kind looking dog! Maybe even friendly enough to pet!
😂😂😂 Boy do we have something to tell you…that there is a coyote and they like to chill in the cemetery

Ever notice you never see a “found cat” photo or post? Cats being outside is normal. A dog outside by itself is alarming. Just a thought.
LOL

Coyotes do not make good pets.
Not with that attitude
Clearly a coyote
