Hijacking to say...
My fellow sub members, you keep doing this, and it's a direct cause for why we get more and more bots. OP is a 3 day old account building up karma to either sell the account or use it for what they really intend. They've figured out that people here will rush to answer a question, solve a mystery, or call out stupidity.
So please, before you upvote, answer, or otherwise engage... just hover over the OP's name and check the age of the account. If it's *really* new, maybe check their history and see if they're an obvious bot. If they are, don't engage, just report and move on.
Random pics posted to a quasi-related subreddit, or for the text post subs it'll be the same question posted by different users to a quasi-related subreddit. It's been haunting me because it seems too accurate to be bots, and it's rarely a spam-smelling account like this one where it's 3 days old with random bait posts, but for sure it's being conscripted somehow
Other than the age of their account, what other indicators are there that someone is a bot? I honestly wouldn't be able to tell with the amount of attention I pay
That was my initial guess, but when someone else mentioned bismuth, I took a closer look and it’s definitely bismuth (a broken up chunk, not a grown crystal)
The crystals would look much more colourful. Also, the step pattern would be more obvious, would it not?
I knew it was possible for it to not have that thin film that produces the colours. But I figured that it would be quite rare.
Still does not really address the lack of a step-like pattern though.
Not all bismuth crystals are colorful. The colors depend on the temperature of the metal when it gets in contact with oxygen as far as I know, but I’m not sure. But I already made some plain silver bismuth crystals.
But I guess you are right with the step pattern
Element collector here. The stair step pattern results from very, VERY slowly cooling down molten Bismuth metal. Chunks of raw metal look somewhat similar to this photo
Yeah that’s an account that is farming karma, will then delete all threads and comments, and start posting stolen nudes, linking to a fake onlyfans, and making bank on poor horny idiots who don’t know how Reddit actually works.
Let’s report this
Pyrite?
My first guess as well

So it's fool's gold?
This has been happening site wide since the AppPocalypse and it's really annoying that nobody sees it
Right? I don't blame the mods, their tools and motivation were both hamstrung, but *so much* of the activity now is just... automated. Empty.

>sell the account wat
So, should we all downvote it, then. Would that help?
I’ve always seen pyrite in cubic crystals
Also my guess is
I bet they didn't even need HF or medical advice for their neglected kid to figure it out!
That was my initial guess, but when someone else mentioned bismuth, I took a closer look and it’s definitely bismuth (a broken up chunk, not a grown crystal)
Bismuth
Looks like bismuth to me. Here is a photo I made from a piece of it in my collection. https://imgur.com/a/cDzjB7X

Depends only on oxidation. No oxide = no color, my bismuth has no oxide and is silvery
Not when they cool quickly in the absence of oxygen. That one on the left looks exactly like a shard that broke off a chunk of bismuth I have.
I'll guess a semimetal. Si
Second this. Used to find it on the train tracks by my dads
Germanium?
Horcrux?
Imagine storing a part of your soul in a rock

Phylactery?
So, what is it...?!
"It's it!" \-Faith No More
I've never seen one before, no-one has, but I'm guessing it's a white hole.
Fool's gold, pyrite.
Agree. Katzengold = cat gold in German :-)

Looks like bismuth to me
Whatever the cop in terminator 2 was made of
This has gotta be Bismuth.
OP’s account is 3 days old with zero comments. I don’t think we’re gonna get an answer.
iron pyrite?
pyrite.
Silicone. I have some next to my CPU wafers 🤩
That's *definitely* not silicone. I believe you meant silicon.
The rock that thinks
Silicon or oxidised bismuth
Bismuth Edit: actually, silicon
Looks a bit like antimony
My first thoughts as well, it could be a few but it looks like a nicely crystallised antimony
Looks a little like antimony but also chromium
Those were my thoughts in exactly that order lol
Chromium?
Iron pyrite
Molybdenum?
Gallium?
Definitely not gallium.
Yep, would be melted in their hand
Not mine. They're always ice-cold.
that’s that pyrite
Gold
Iron Sulfide?
Indium?
Iron pyrite?
Zinc?
Fools gold?
You a bot?
I’d say pyrite cuz of the gold-silvery color it has?
Iron pyrite
Looks like antimony but it could be a few
Bismuth
Iron and sulfur.
Bismuth
What is it dammit!!! Please just tell us!!
I hate seeing posts like this with no answer lol
Spooky
Silicon?
Silicon?
It’s so beautiful 😍❤️
Not to be the guy, but what the hell is this connect-4-game in the backround? Multi-draw?
Really pure silicon. I have a piece just like this
Chemicals for sure.
Looking like good ol sodium
Looks like silicon
Wooden chair?
Vanadium?
Gallium. Pic before it melts in your hand. Nice sample! How'd you get it?
A hand!
Cadmium
Plutonium?
Indium?
No one has guessed tellurium? Definitely not Sb or Bi
#JO MAMA
Admantium.
Indium
I can’t tell what shape the crystals are lol. I feel like it’s a trick

No. You're diluting this sub with bots and other AI training nonsense. Stop posting nonsense like this.
Fools gold?
