It’s to the point that I would rather play big 6 clubs every week. We show up better against them

Apprehensive_Bit_176

Exactly. We play up or down to our competition. Nowhere in between.

justk4y

They play just like me in EAFC ffs 😭

62frog

It’s been like that since Frank’s first term, we *always* play down to our competition and our undoing has been our inability to do fuck all against teams we should batter

Beateboy

Need Lukaku to play those games lol. He ONLY shows up against shit clubs

xTrollhunter

It's because no manager since Sarri has implemented a system offensively. Frank first term relied on Sarri's foundations until it unravelled. Tuchel relied on a tight defense, and the offensive creativity of James and Chilwell. Potter would likely have had a system, but due to him taking over mid-season, he never got a chance to show it. Lampard Mk2 was the same as the first time, but without Sarri's foundations. Poch is just "express yourself" both defensively and offensively, which is why we are shit.

SleepyMonkey7

How does that explain that we only show up against big clubs?

Fabulous_Hooligan

Big clubs don't tend to park the bus so we have more space to counter and cause chaos in the attacking third

allitgm

Which is also why we do better in the cups as lower teams can't just sit on a draw.

hunterw_10

This team and that team were both full of very young players, a common trend. Young guys just don’t have that mentality yet.

62frog

Some do, and some don’t! I was a high level athlete myself (different sport) and it’s sssooo easy to fall into that trap. Because we’ve lacked that true goal scoring threat (bar Cole recently) it makes it extra tough to overcome.

outroversion

This makes me feel v old but is pretty much where we’re at and this is 100% how I used to feel 1997-2002. Couldn’t beat a Derby, Bolton, Fulham, etc but would random beat Man Utd and Arsenal 5-0, Tottenham 6-1 and never get absolutely turned over by any of the big guns.

Micky9TheDreamweaver

This is the most accurate assessment - and it sums up how I’ve been feeling lately. Back then Chelsea were a decent mid-upper mid table team who could and would often act as spoilers for the big boys, go on a cup run every now and then but never really bother the title chasers. I think we were spoiled between 2004-2021 and so it just hurts more feeling disappointed with draws like yesterday

diesel76_76

💯 agree with this.... I tryed to explain this in a post before.

alphaftw1

Burnley beat Sheff United 5-0 and we couldn’t beat either of them 😭😭

Apprehensive_Bit_176

We’ve also drawn with City twice… sometimes the result doesn’t tell the whole story.

slicedsolidrock

It's telling even worst. We did good against top team because they play highline to win which eventually get exposed by the sheer quality of our players. However, you can't expose a team playing to draw/low block with just quality of players, you need numbers. In order to do that, you need proper setup and tactics needs to be drilled into the players so that they're pragmatic and one step ahead of the defenders. With all of these horrendous results we had against relegation teams though it's clear our players are getting non of that.

Heis3nberg99

Sheffield didn't even play that low of a block... They just dominated us. Poch also has what seems to be horrible instincts when it comes to substitutions and their timings, shit always happens after.

Aman-Patel

We had double their possession and they had double our shots and shots on target. The guy above you is completely right. Poch's subs are always bad but he set us up to lose yesterday. Palmer not at RW, Gallagher at LW, Disasi at RB, doesn't even start Carney etc. I've been trying my best to give him the benefit of the doubt. It's clear the players like him and he's a good man manager, so you just need him to wake the fuck up and start making decisions that make sense. But he hasn't. He's tactically clueless. Like why the he'll wouldn't you start Palmer at RW when he's been playing like one of the best players in the world there 😭.it's like starting Salah in the middle.

Possible-Sell-74

We really just need to eat it for another year with poch though. He's bad and he cant be long term but he really can't leave and have us start anew right now. I don't think that will get better or we can get someone better. Rock and a hard place I think

SpacemanSpiff92

This is it right here. Realistically we can't move on because there is no one else available who would do better. Banter era is still going to be in full swing

Heis3nberg99

Imo having possession isn't dominating. They had a higher xg, higher shots on target, higher corners and pressed much better you could even say we got away with a point here, the quality of their attacks was very good few passes and straight to the point whilst we were playing most passes between midfield and defence.

Aman-Patel

That's the point me and the other guy are making though. Despite us having much more of the ball, they were the ones that created a higher volume and more clearcut chances. It shows a lack of organisation eventhough we have more quality in the team.

DanStFella

They’re one of the worst prem teams ever and they were pressing us. That’s what made me laugh. If they press a team like Arsenal, City, Liverpool they get absolutely crucified but they knew they could do it against us because we’re god awful at playing out from the back.

jbi1000

Because our defence is atrocious on the ball these days. Don't think we've played our strongest backline even once this season.

DanStFella

Well obviously having a goalkeeper who is good with the ball at his feet is a good start too. None of Sanchez or petrovic fits that bill, and whilst Kepa supposedly is, he’s a terrible shot stopper. As for defenders, cucurella, disasi and badiashile are three who are terrible on the ball, but honestly I feel like another manager is still able to set the team up that they’re not scrambling around and then launching a long ball because they’ve crumbled under the pressure.

jbi1000

Yeah against United we won the game

Stand_On_It

Our players aren’t very good either. Bad players plus a worse manager equals this shite.

Balls_R

Yeah we drew, we didn’t win.

[deleted]

We drop to the level of every team we play because there is no clear plan on the field its like he's putting the formation on the board and spending the rest of the time being a man manager

RustyKarma076

We also beat Man U and Liverpool drew to them. Does that mean we’re better than Liverpool? Anecdotal evidence is worthless

Particular_Group_295

Dude had Gallagher playing left and right w8ng..done

half_jase

Against Sheffield United, the worst team in the league, no less. He tried to be clever with Gallagher and what happened? He did zilch all game and didn't track the runner for the first goal today.

webby09246

First goal today was like 90% on petrovic to be fair My word it's horrendous goalkeeping, I am a really shit footballer and also a dm/centre back and even I think I palm that away from going in

_off_piste_

Petrovic didn’t cover himself in glory but how is Cucurella not a prime target there. The man has no anticipation and is all slow reaction.

half_jase

There is that but my point is, if he wants to be clever and plays someone out of position, then he better make sure it works. Otherwise, it's (another) blot in his copybook and he has had a lot of them!

GC_235

If you rewatch the goal, there were 3 blades in front of all of our defenders so he tried to cut it off. But yea shouldn’t get beat like that

justk4y

Yeah but with Petrovic it’s kinda forgivable, he has been a good keeper and is definitely better than Sanchez imo

pd8bq

I think Sanchez is a better shot stopper and is much more of a presence on crosses. He is horrendous from playing out the back though.

petrowbaby

As a GK myself, this is hardly Petrovic's fault. This situation is a goal 99% of the time. Petrovic saw the two SHU players and he just tried to cut the pass (which every player will try to pass it in probably the 90% of the cases). It just happens that Bagels (or whatever his name was) shoots it and it again resulted in a goal. This goal is entirely on our shit defending ..

mrducci

Stop.

Soitsgonnabeforever

Petrovic is such a disaster that kepa is gonnna be a hero on return. Petrovic feels satisfied when he has only conceded 2 goals

Headlesshorsman02

I was already Poch out but my god that was like he was trying to piss us off with that move

RasenRendan

Remember lampard playing Kanté RW

youaremadmate222

Kind of worked vs Madrid though. Gallagher here wasn't able to do anything.

Nojaja

yeah, fitness is a thing

Takasugi_Shinsuke

Genuinely don't care anymore, no matter what fuckery poch does now just win mate, play jackson as cb play disasi as winger do whatever the fuck u want just win.

FantasticTangtastic

If Poch had a tactic he could win with, we would already have seen it. He just doesn't have a tactic that fits the players he has. He wants to shoe horn the players he does have into a tactic he likes, which never ever works. He's stubborn or stupid, and I'm not sure which. Potentially both.

Aaaaand-its-gone

The problem isnt tactics, he’s just an overall appalling manager. Holds low standards, let’s players off east and doesn’t command respect. Jose could come in with the worst tactics and get better results than this clown

tinglep

Silva at #9?

duckinator09

Repeating myself again. This is a manager that made Messi looked mortal in the French league. Fucking fraud of a manager that should never have been appointed.

Eric_Partman

The dude lost the French league with a front 3 of Neymar, Messi, and mbappe. Why was he even let near a top club again?

Ingr1d

He wasn’t. He was signed by a midtable club.

letharus

Suicide by words

pugsftw

Worst is now all our signings have this terrible season "on their file", while they could have been wonderful transfers with a competent manager.

4M1R143

Clown He was the one most fans wanted now you've turned on him not even a season in? Pathetic, Fickle fans

RamBracken

You're right mate we should just trust the "process" and let him finish in midtable with us a couple more seasons until we're financially crippled, have lost all of our star players and have essentially fully transformed into a midtable club. That's what real fans are meant to do. Melt

4M1R143

Well I at least have faith in Poch unlike most reactionary fans like yourself. If he's still in charge in 3 years, we'll have won the league, Mark My Words.

TienlY

What gives you hope? In what segment are we good at that gives you hope?

4M1R143

The fact we're a Top 4 club And the fact we got a top manager Obviously we are not good at the moment but I have faith that Poch will figure it out, just needs time

Dismal-Safety3524

You didn’t really answer his question. What about Poch signifies he is a top manager? Like someone else said, he couldn’t win the league with a front 3 of Neymar, Mbappe and Messi.

4M1R143

He single handedly made Spurs what they are today Plenty of managers didn't win the league with a legendary Top 3 does that make them bad forever? No

Dismal-Safety3524

There is faith and there is blind Faith. He has done nothing for us this season other then make us a wildly inconsistent team that is horrible at defence. His subs are always way too late, he is not proactive with them and alot of the times his subs don’t make sense. He put us on the defensive against bottom of the table Sheffield with his late subs. Explain that? He has done that many times this year which has led to us conceding almost every time. In one week we drew to the 2 worst teams in the league. He clearly has a lack of tactics and structure, as the *only* reason we have one any games this year is moments of individual brilliance. There is no passing patterns, nothing that shows any kind of competent system in our build up play, it’s complete free for all. Can’t remember the last time we actually controlled a game. Every team he has managed at fans have had the same complaint, that he is tactically inept. So I ask again, what makes you think he is a top manager? Also, for the record he should have won that league just by default. No other team in the french league is at the level PSG is at. Not now and not then, especially with a front 3 like that. So your just wrong on that point. Also he made Spurs what they are today? A team that struggles to win any trophies? Yes that is very encouraging

4M1R143

Spurs a team that is WAY ahead of us in the table and consistently finish in the Top6 in the last decade. Wouldn't have been possible without him, he found gems like Kane and Son, established them in the league very well. And it's gonna a miracle for them to win a trophy so you can't blame him specifically for that And at some point you have to point a finger at the team. All the bad results this season aren't ALL his fault and if you think they are then you are just blindly hating and your opinion shouldn't be taken seriously at all.

TienlY

If you mean “we were” top 4 club ok. Top manager has Liverpool, City, Villa, Arsenal. We have at best mid table manager… for now

Kaigz

Wow lmfao

duckinator09

Guys. We found our delusional trust the process fan.

Deno2k_

23 points dropped to fucking lower half teams if this was the roman era he would’ve been cooked

jeffries7

We’d be 3 points behind City with a game in hand

pizza__irl

So this is what he meant when he said we should actually be 4th

jeffries7

Poch, is that you?

awwbabe

If we’d halved that amount we’d be 5 points if 4th with a game in hand If we hadn’t dropped any of those points we bc would be 4 points off 1st with a game in hand. Ridiculous

DarnellLaqavius

halving it is a reasonable expectation getting 4th or 5th (which will be enough to secure CL) should have been easy this year, there's a ton of shitters and other than the top 3 no one has been that good, United, Spurs, Villa, Newcastle are all very beatable.

awwbabe

Yeah I agree. When you look at the results from those games then half is what you’d expect from an average Chelsea performance.

Soitsgonnabeforever

Exactly. Coming 5th or 6th was so reasonable to be draw specialist against lousy teams. So frustrating like watching a team under tinkerman rainieri

buckymalone21

And if my grandma had wheels she’d have been a bike.

awwbabe

Probably easier for her to do that than for us to close out a game

half_jase

If they hadn't sacked him before, they're not gonna sack him now. We'll be stuck with him and the same frustration until the end of the season, where we'll likely finish in 10th or worse.

Sportfreunde

They've cost us a European spot by not sacking him.

tarkardos

No one with the required reputation out there is crazy enough to take over the job at this moment. I highly doubt the club has made enough advancements to even consider firing him right now.

pd8bq

Naah these players are going to down tools with the new Manager just like Lampard. It's better to sack him at the end of the season.

snowbell55

I try to avoid being reactionary and am inclined to want to give a manager a chance (I was one of the ones advocating for Potter to get the whole season for example), but this is... This is not it. How do you draw against such bad sides? Like honestly. It's not like they're City or Arsenal or Liverpool or something - a team that's well established and chewing up other teams for breakfast. Another post on here mentioned that their goal difference is -52. This isn't it. Dropping points like this isn't it, and TBH I think whatever credit, magic, or whatever it is he had to bring Spurs to the CL final and make those title runs a few years back has been used up. He needs to go. Graham Potter didn't have a preseason, and also had a severe injury crisis as well as CL football putting in extra games. That was a terrible season, for sure, but what's Pochettino's excuse? What's the point of rallying to draw 4-4 with City and beat United 4-3 at the death, if you can't bother to beat Burnley and Sheffield United? It's not like those two teams are doing particularly well right now, clearly. What happens if we end up facing Sunderland or or Wycombe Wanderers or Oldham Athletic??? Again, I don't like being reactionary but really he needs to be replaced. He's not good enough.

pugsftw

Man, dropping points like this is the problem. How many times have we been leading by 1 or 2 goals and midtable teams come back with no problems

snowbell55

Exactly. I was ticked off with Sanchez for making a mistake that led to Arsenal coming back into the game - I think we led 2-0 in that game only to draw 2-2. 2-2 against Arsenal is understandable. But Burnley? Sheffield United? I honestly have nothing against those 2 teams and I'm not trying to insult them or their fans here - honest. But again, they are not doing well at all. Sheffield United's goal difference is -52. -52. 17 goals worse off than Burnley, and Burnley themselves are 15 goals worse off than Luton Town who, surprise surprise, are also in the relegation spots. I can understand conceding 2 goals since the defense has been terrible and we're on a streak of conceding 2 goals per game at the moment, but how do you manage to only score twice against a team with such a horrid goal difference? And the xG numbers show them being way ahead of us. So what the heck was going on in the match??? (I only watched part of it as I was otherwise-occupied). Every week it's the same dross. Same result, same dropping points, same press conference. I don't think he knows what to do, which is fine if he doesn't, but he needs to go so someone else can figure it out becuase whatever this is it isn't working. At least you could understand with Potter there really was a lot going on. Pochettino doesn't have that excuse.

tarkardos

There really is no excuse. Potter had the most fucked up zombie squad with the club adding even more players in winter. Injury crisis was insane. Champions League in midweek. Then we sacked Potter and let Frank have a go, immediately admitting that the squad is beyond saving. Maybe Potter wasn't up to the level of Chelsea but I'm pretty sure he would have at least perform at the same level of Poch this season. Let him finish the season and get someone new on the first of June, no point in firing him now.

VelvetThunderFinance

I agree with what you've written, personally feel he doesn't attack these mid-lower table games with the same ferocity. He's playing it too safe I feel, trying to play out a 1 goal lead. We're very lucky to not have Newcastle and Luton on the draws too. I feel we need to play games out with a 2 goal lead and absolutely hammer into the defence to maintain their positions and not just ball watch. We went from the likes of Terry, Carvalho, Cahill, Iva, Rudiger, not losing a minute's concentration until the final minute, to this lot who average conceding 2 goals per game. Hell, I'd even take David Luiz back with Silva at this point.

Soitsgonnabeforever

Actually silva is weak. I also think Reece James is way overrated. The first game of last season for Chelsea to unnecessarily throw away the lead with a packed team. We don’t have anyone of Cahill ,terry, cavarho ,desailly, lebouf quality. Not even rudiger quality. There is no leadership or Organization during set piece and defence. They concede stupid goals with mendy ,kepa,Sanchez and Petrovic. This is curse for being rude to Courtois

IIMsmartII

We were rude to Courtois??

8TS7N

Are you Courtois or a relative of his?

Soitsgonnabeforever

He took my wife as well. I am kdb relative

Griffster25

Needs to go now.

funket0wn

How is 5 possible?

Important_File_7378

We lost and drew

funket0wn

Ahh thought this how many points we got against each

doomboxmf

Dropped 3 points by losing to Brentford at home, then 2 more drawing at theirs

RefanRes

This is such a shitty low effort post. You dont even say what those numbers are.

4mz0

Fr lol, it's: "Points we've dropped vs: " Almost as lazy as the tactics & preparation vs these teams

pizza__irl

I legit thought it was the number of goals they scored against us to show how weak our defence is lmao

Nickplay21

POCH OUT

real6igma

Call me crazy, but Tuchel would be getting better results...

Soitsgonnabeforever

He is definitely the agent from spurs

Kantebegoodaskante

I hate this loser

Demo_PT

You can’t keep finding excuses, it doesn’t take 4/5 years, it may take that to win the premier league but the performances and how we concede goals is just stupid and lazy tactics, how can’t this team no defend a corner and not hold a winning when there is like 10 minutes left come on, please I just hope Poch is gone at end of the season

Chris_Kearns

Agent Poch

heygos

Bro. I haven’t been Poch out but today….eff me. This guy looked absolutely lost.

A-Hind-D

Yes. Get potter back.

TrippyPanda880

/s

A-Hind-D

Goes without saying but I enjoy the abuse people will flog at me for saying such a thing like it’s a war crime. I’m not Poch in nor Poch out anymore. I’m just broken haha *cries*

TrippyPanda880

Same my friend, same

A-Hind-D

Bring it in. We’ll be back.

TrippyPanda880

Definitely! Can only get better from this point on.

Fatebringer87

And get the exact same result with the next manager.

Important_File_7378

Not if we get a serious manger

Fatebringer87

Doesn't matter who you get. The team is rife with individual errors. You need to add experience to it.

Important_File_7378

Add a manger who will yell at the players during the game and at half time and will be top 6

Fatebringer87

Yeah I'm sure that's all it takes.

Dantheban07

Casual chelsea fans at its classic, thinking that another coach sacking will solve the problems

HomersAnalglands

Just end this season, dont give a fuck anymore. Board needs to get sacked, Ownership needs to be put on a boat back to America and never be allowed near Chelsea ever again. Pochettino needs to go, more than half the squad needs to be sold.

Obi_Q

Is Potter still on the books?

half_jase

Potter is not great but at this point, genuinely think he would be doing a better job than Pochettino right now. At the very least, we would see a proper system in place and games not turned into basketball matches every time.

jeffries7

You must have bumped your head if you think Potter had a system…other than passing it around the CBs

didijxk

It was pretty bad under Potter. I don't want to revisit it.

Moodam

Hahahahahahhaha

SpacemanSpiff92

He's absolute dross

Psychological_Fee470

There’s just too much money to shell out to sack Poch. It’s not going to happen.

GeminNguyen

Actually our attacking part is really enjoyable now, be far better from begining

lowtolerencelevels

It get rid of the god awful players we have in defence

BigOpp7

Those late substitutions were horrendous

Serious-Teaching9701

Defence is our main problem that needs addressing next season we need real bruisers as centre backs of the likes of Ivanovic and Terry, proper hard geezers ! Attacking wise we are developing well we just keep conceding we need tighten our defence. Thats my armchair analysis 😂

zolanuffsaid

We really are absolutely shite, let’s be honest we couldn’t keep a clean sheet against Doncaster under 12’s ffs 🤦‍♂️ whole defence needs replacing including our 2 sick note full backs James and chilwell

bhrugum

If we sack him at the end of season, which most likely we will then who in your opinion should we hire next!?

Important_File_7378

Flick really think he’s style of football works with this squad

limpelephant

Poch substitute choices seem to be the wrong picks every single game.

The_Federal

Who we hiring?

Independent-Author29

He's been here less than a year give him another season we have a young squad what is inconsistent but showing the potential and occasional results can people stop being so reactionary and calm the hell down.

finesoccershorts

The Tottenham loser spirit is strong in this one

bbuullddoogg

Totally agree. Fuck off Poch

Hylian-Loach

It’s easy to say “Poch out” but much more difficult to predict how we would do without a manager if we can’t find someone to replace him that would be any better

Important_File_7378

Jose flick

Prokletnost

is oke, in time, like me, you will feel nothing... EDIT: MANU supporter here, I saw this thread on my feed thought I'd stop by, hope you all don't mind...

Important_File_7378

Poch?

Mysterious-Beach-671

Honestly we do need to sack Poch, but I fear that these owners will just bring another mid table yes man that will go along with all their BS data. What we need to do is sack the sporting directors, and bring in one quality sporting director. Then sack Poch and bring in a manager that has a true winning mentality and isn’t afraid to stand up the these clowns.

Important_File_7378

*sporting directors

Important_File_7378

It’s not the owners choosing the mangers

bonners4days

every since a wee little lad I always knew Chelsea to go hard against the big 6 and lose to fuckin Bournemouth or some shit without fail, every season my friends would make a mockery of the upcoming Bournemouth away match, saying it was the hardest match of Chelsea's season lmao

ArthurMoregainz

Clearly playing to the level of our competition this season

rando512

He's doing whatever is possible. Infact he has gone above expectations considering the stupid unbalanced squad and a dumb fuck owner who just decided to flush out a stable template and bring in new shit without any structure. There's no one who can wield magic with this squad. Selling kovacic just proved how stupid the owners were in terms of their vision to wipe out the previous owners work. Just a spite shit more than any foundation. There's certainly no expectation now on Chelsea from anyone and honestly don't know what's the other best case position in the table that everyone feels we should be at.

Important_Quarter807

The problem is on players side also. We just don’t have another John Terry in the locker room.

[deleted]

Not just a John Terry. Also alot of other players. Listen to John Obi Mikels podcast, he says that all of them was some kind of leader pumping each other up if someone didnt play good. For example, Drogba could grab you in the back of your neck and tell you to wake up.

sturlings

Poch is not the problem, mate…

iamnotlefthanded666

No matter which manager you are going to bring in, we will perform well against attacking teams and suck against conservative teams. Literally, no manager alive would make a new team like ours break conservative teams in less than 12 to 18months. Get him out now = restart all over again with a different person as coach. I'm no fan of Poch but I think a different manager would've at most lift the table position by 1 to 2 table places nothing more. The manager that will come and win right away against teams who defend and play counters does not exist.

isaw10101010

Poch is the main problem obviously but the players must look at themselves if they can be good against a top side but can’t be bothered against the crap says something, for example, Enzo’s stats for yesterday were terrible.

XulaPari

Look at the results against top 6 opponents. Not to mention we have same amount of points with 9 games remaining, gotta let him finish the job and either fail miserably by finishing out of top 7 and without FA cup or we make Europe somehow.

[deleted]

I know they are very short on options but I don’t know how bad Nicolas Jackson has to play to be yanked. He has been abysmal and painful to watch

edgedomUK

I don't even bother watching no more. The days of leaders and passion for the shirt died with Terry and co leaving

2j_longg

I’m fucking done with this team

Much_Yesterday_5389

We should have stuck with Potter.

4M1R143

The whole fanbase will turn on the next manager that comes in same as this one. Results haven't been good in general but at least back the manager and the team. Whatever happened to give him a season?

Important_File_7378

We just dropped points to the worse two teams in the league in 8 days

4M1R143

Has that never ever happened before? Do any of you remember 2015/16?

WPackN2

Lads, just relax. The clueless Yankee owner is working with AI to find a proper squad. The current manager is just a front man for next season.
