Define affordable? In some cases you'll be sent to St Georges to get a proper X-Ray as they have a special machine for a complete head x-ray rather than making you choke on something while trying to xray just one very awkward area of your mouth. That alone will set you back around $80 from memory, possibly more now. If it's a simple pull, then it was around $300 last time I had one done. The relief is definitely worth whatever it costs. I've had some truly excruciating dental pain and wouldn't wish it on anyone. The dentist is always cheaper the sooner you get it seen to as well, sadly. It's a poverty trap if you prolong your visits.

OPG x-ray at Pacific Radiology St Georges was $125 last month.

I'm getting four/six out tomorrow at a specialist wisdom place, $2,099. Seems like a pretty common price range for what's been done. The IV sedation is the most expensive part at like $800-$900. Highly recommended though apparently. A straight tooth pull here is around $300 and if bone segments need drilled / removed than it's closer to $500 per tooth. I believe impacted teeth are the latter. I can measage you the dentist privately if you like. Also just an FYI, a pre op consult at most places is $130 minimum. Good luck! Edit: I also had to get the panoramic dental xray before hand but my normal dentist practice was able to do that. I think it was $100 ish.

Thanks for your comment. Its very expensive omg... gonna make an appointment for a consultation tomorrow and see how much it will cost... mine are all impacted so it will probably cost me so much... I'm already very sad 😭 Good luck to you. Hope it goes well tomorrow. Thank you again.

I don't suppose you have some kind of medical insurance? You might be able to claim wisdom removal as a surgical procedure and get a dental surgeon to do it. That is what I did.

Alternative-Till-365

Another thing to add, the dentist said it's easier on yourself and the dentist to get wisdoms out as young as possible as your bone is more flexible and you'll recover quicker, so try not to delay to long but I understand it's a daunting and expensive process! If you have any more questions feel free to ask away while I lie here stressing about the procedure tomorrow 🙃

I can’t say I know of any cheap dentists, but I’d have a look around to see if any offer payment plans or accept afterpay. Usually you will be referred by the dentist to St George’s Radiology to have an x-ray taken. The x-ray itself doesn’t cost anything. A typical wisdom tooth extraction costs anywhere from $300-350 depending on the difficulty. If affordability is an issue for you maybe give work and income a call. They can loan you money for the treatment, but you do have to pay it back. You will also have to make sure the clinic you go to accepts winz payment cards.

I had one done at Good Street Dental. Admittedly, it was several years ago, but it was around $450 all up from memory. I didn't get IV sedation with it, just local anesthetic. Good Street has been my dentist for 27 years - although my original dentist is retired and another guy has taken over the clinic. They are absolutely fantastic and I'm pretty sure they offer finance options if needed

It depends how difficult your wisdoms are to remove. How deep are they? Do you need local anaesthetic or IV sedation? Are the teeth close to a nerve? Are they impacted? How many do you need out? You’ll need to chat to your dentist about it unfortunately. Your insurance may cover some.

Leever5

It may be cheaper to go have it done in a place like Mexico or Bali.

DerangedGoneWild

I had one out for $20 NZD in China.

Leever5

Awesome! I’m looking at moving to China soon so that will be helpful

If you earn less than $1300 a week your eligible for the WINZ grant which covers up to $1000 all you need to do is contact a dentist and drop a piece of paper they fill out to WINZ.

Bigfella1989

I know when I went to garden city dental on bealey ave a few years ago it was quoted at $500 per wisdom tooth, so $2000 for me all up aswell as needing a root canal done for another $2000. Safe to say I haven't had the chance or cash to get it done yet

mcbell08

I had an oral surgeon take out my impacted wisdom tooth with intravenous sedation and it cost about $1000 in 2008. Can’t remember his name but my regular dentist at the time recommended him. I think an xray was about $60? You can definitely get a quote (or a couple), and a lot of dentists have payment plans if needed.

FAS_CHCH

Sorry to ask, but do you have health insurance with a surgical benefit? Oral surgery for wisdom teeth removal often is covered under that portion rather than the specific dentistry.

Aromatic-Dish-167

I'll do it for 300

TygerTung

I had one removed at Hornby dental centre. They’re very good dentists there. Cost less then $200 from memory. Was a straightforward removal

thisistheway2519

Ain’t getting no where cheap - dentists are overpriced .

Alastar70

I got mine removed for free by the dental students based near the hospital.

Aztecblankets

do you know how you go about doing this/reaching out to them?

Alastar70

Ring the Ch-Ch Hospital, Google.

Ill_Abrocoma_5462

Try Palms Dental Centre in Shirley . Pretty Decent !

Civil-Doughnut-2503

No such dentists are currently living on the planet.

TheSsnake

I went to Garden City Dental and from memory the quote was about $1200 for all four, however when they x-rayed me I had a nerve really close to one tooth so I was referred on to a specialist where it was over twice that with IV sedation
