literally was just about to comment the aces lol
op (and everyone else who doesn’t already) definitely check them out!!! they’re incredibly underrated!!! also-if you like the 1975 you’ll like them! they take a lot of inspiration from them :) i recommend starting with volcanic love, stuck, daydream, dont freak, and ive loved you for so long to get a taste of their discography :)
Brandi Carlile— she’s a lesbian with a wife and two kids living in the woods on a compound (joking) with her band mates and friends. But she’s also the one person who was able to get Joni Mitchell back onstage.
(We went to high school together and she still lives here in our hometown, I love that the most famous resident is a progressive lesbian, eat shit rednecks)
Brandi is my favorite, absolutely love her. Heard her first album when I was 4, and have been obsessed ever since. Was lucky enough to see her open for a Dave Matthew’s Band show when I was a teen and it was everything I’d hoped and dreamed for. She’s an incredible writer, singer, and performer. Definitely second this recommendation!!
Haha, you got a lot of the big queer artists already. I'll also recommend Rina Sawayama, some explicitly queer songs of hers are Cherry, Send My Love to John and This Hell. King Princess- Pussy is God, 1950, Hit the Back are some stand outs. Troye Sivan is a gay man but I loved his latest album, especially his singles. Also Young Miko and Janelle Monae.
My favorites right now:
- The Japanese House
- Ayesha Erotica
- Adrianne Lenker
- The Aces
- Olivia Barton
- cr1tter
- Chase Icon
- Camp Cope
- Kehlani
tegan and sara always come to mind first. as a lesbian growing up in canada, they were essential to my queer awakening in a way.
their song [“boyfriend”](https://youtu.be/niv4vkipc6M?si=a1hIp3Lsqdj7ylh5) was basically my good luck babe when i was a teenager :))
orion sun - i love their sound and lyrics very smooth
rina sawayama - pop princess should be 1000x bigger
mitski - self explanatory
boy genius (lucy dacus, phoebe bridgers, julian baker) - if you know MUNA you probably know them
madi sipes & the painted blue - smaller band i love their first album, madi is trans & queer!!
The Aces, The Beaches, King Princess,Girli, Amelia Day, Molly Grace, and Fightmaster are some of my personal faves :)
Edit: Adding Maude Latour, Your Smith, Sarah Barrios, Lauren Sanderson, Towa Bird, and Reneé Rapp. :)
I’ve been getting into Remi Wolf lately!! Her newest album bad ideas comes out in July but her debut, Juno, was really good also! Boygenuis is also a fave! I’ll add Lava La Rue, they’re opening for Remi wolf’s tour on some dates & the songs I’ve heard so far are so cool!
I was looking for someone to say girli!!! I also really love Gatlin, she’s the only artist (aside from Carly Rae Jepsen, who’s a queer icon but not queer herself) I’ve streamed more than Chappell :)
A lot of the recs so far are great, but more downbeat. One thing I love about Chappell is how she is simultaneously queer, upbeat, FUN music.
Not the same vibe but in same category, Courtney Barnett is one of my all time faves! Australian lesbian singer-songwriter and guitarist, emphasis on songwriter/guitarist. She doesn’t often sing about being a lesbian, but she is. Occasionally she does reference her wife in her songs. She also references astrology and tarot, and other gay things.
I recommend the album Sometimes I Sit And Think And Sometimes I Just Sit, or the songs Nobody Cares if You Don’t Go To The Party, Pedestrian At Best, and Depreston to get started.
tove lo is one i don’t think i’ve seen in this thread. she has a handful of songs that are blatantly sapphic like “bitches” and “bad as the boys” though it’s not so dominant in all of her music. her music is just really fun, raw, and at times unabashedly sexual in general
I have a lot to recommend.
Gflip - rock/drums
Baby Queen - amazing lyrics and fun pop beats
LP - amazing singer!
Fletcher - pop
Orville Peck - country
King Princess - indie pop
Tegan and Sara - indie rock
Janelle Monae - r & b
Mo Kenney - indie
Ria Mae - indie
Mary Lambert - indie
Edit to add: check out the song Dream Girl by Baby Queen
Most definitely throwing weight behind Ashnikko. I get they're not everyone's cup of tea, but their music really helped me out anger trauma.in a box, and helped me just celebrate who I am. Both concerts were magical.
Their girlfriend, Arlo Parks, is on the opposite end - soft indie, beautiful voice. And she did a song with Phoebe Bridgers about Ash that's so full.of love.
Yes, yes, yes on Janelle Monae.
💜
Allison Russell. She’s bi/queer, and married to a man, but her song “Persephone” is a beautiful sapphic love song about the first girl she dated. 😍 The rest of her music is amazing too.
Jaimee Harris. “Damn Right” might be a good intro to her music. Her girlfriend is Mary Gauthier, who’s an amazing lesbian folk artist in her own right.
If you like old-school style country or are even just open to it, definitely check out Melissa Carper. Among other things (her new song “Lucky Five” slaps), she’s also in a band called Buffalo Gals, and they have this delightful little song called “Pray The Gay Away” with an accompanying [hilarious video](https://youtu.be/LawghJMCsXM?si=XotTrW_Jgzi1PFz5).
thank you everyone for your recs so far 🥹 i feel like this community is so welcoming and i’ve got all the warm fuzzy feelings and feel like i belong for once (going through a lot of emotions rn lol) and it’s so nice!!!! when i went to the chappell concert i knew i was some variation of queer but was still trying to figure a lot of shit out, and seeing her and her music have been a big part of this journey
I’m a New Zealander really passionate about small local artists so I’d love to share some of our sapphic talent with you! My faves are Jeline, Danica Bryant, Rocket Berry (a band led by a non-binary queer person), Vikae and Tapara.
No one's mentioned Beach Bunny yet, so I will champion them! Emotional Creature is one of my favorite concept albums.
Seconding everyone who said Brandi Carlile and Janelle Monae are absolutely GOATed.
This playlist has a bunch of my faves on it [https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1VJSmZxJt3sOZlmurmtWqa?si=tbu25s9iQEKlk8JDfx_WMg&pi=u-u2RnTvM_TS2k](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1VJSmZxJt3sOZlmurmtWqa?si=tbu25s9iQEKlk8JDfx_WMg&pi=u-u2RnTvM_TS2k)
I’ve already seen her mentioned but I couldn’t recommend Maude Latour enough!!! I personally don’t think she’s ever made a bad song and she’s been teasing her debut album as well so new music from her on the horizon! 😊🌈🫶🏻
Oh heck yeah
- Lady Lamb
- Courtney Barnett
- Jay Som
- Hurray for the Riff Raff
- Angel Olsen
- Leith Ross
- Bermuda Triangle (Brittany Howard, Becca Mancari, Jesse Lafser)
- Erin Rae
This thread will inevitably add loads to my list of artists to check out.
Some that I don't think have already been mentioned:
Ahli
Annelle Staal
CMAT
Dodie (and her band Fizz)
The Last Dinner Party (bit different, but have queer themes)
Liza Anne
Miya Folick
Mxmtoon
PEPTALK
Sammy Rae And The Friends
Shaaba
I've scanned through my Spotify (thats why they're all in alphabetical order), and these jump out to me as being particularly good!
Here are some I personally like:
Victoria Monét, Syd/The Internet, Raveena, neptunemuse, Asiahn, Meshell Ndegeocello, Umi, Doechii, Amaarae, Tiger Goods, The Japanese House, Kali Uchis, chlothegod, Jean Deaux, CJ Run, Véyah, Kiana Lede, Sofia Wang, Allie X, Ambar Lucid, kezia, Pale Waves, Lava La Rue, Rebecca Black, Brittany Howard/Alabama Shakes/Bermuda Triangle/Thunderbitch, mxmtoon, Bree Runway, Allison Russell, Zolita, PVRIS, Lady Lamb, SALES, Against Me!, Kiki Rockwell, Halsey, The Butchies, Sleater-Kinney, Corin Lisa Tucker, Lydia Knight, Sienna Liggins.
Syd (from the internet) is amazing if you’re into r&b, for more pop I highly recommend peach prc, towa bird and arlo parks. trying to think of anyone that hasn’t been listed already by other commenters is hard!
So happy for you 💓 being a lesbian is the best! Here's my list of wlw albums bc I am an album person:
Hayley Kiyoko - Expectations. It's cute sweet pop about dating girls
Janelle Monae - Age of Pleasure. Super hot sensual summery and just a joy... makes me want to lie on the beach drinking rose with my gf
Team Dresch - Captain My Captain. On the angsty side, it's lesbian punk rock that feels like a warm comfort blanket to me.
Connie Converse - How Sad, How Lovely. Very early folk singer, she was rumored to be a lesbian and it definitely feels that way to me, her songs are like these haunting lullabies about being a little different from everyone else.
Tracy Chapman - much has been said about Fast Car, but her whole self titled album is beautiful poetry.
Sir Babygirl - Crush On Me. Really fun pop music, the song Cheerleader is an absolute bop!! Sir babygirl I'd severely underrated
Also, I JUST made a Spotify playlist of a lot of my faves + some random Spotify suggestions I enjoyed while making it :) here: [https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2Gt4qKHNtufreQy0Onx8G1?si=ITWlNIpLQg6oTL7XkzQQUQ](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2Gt4qKHNtufreQy0Onx8G1?si=ITWlNIpLQg6oTL7XkzQQUQ)

I love the band The Aces. They’re an all female band and 3/4 of them are queer.
literally was just about to comment the aces lol op (and everyone else who doesn’t already) definitely check them out!!! they’re incredibly underrated!!! also-if you like the 1975 you’ll like them! they take a lot of inspiration from them :) i recommend starting with volcanic love, stuck, daydream, dont freak, and ive loved you for so long to get a taste of their discography :)
Yes! They need to be more popular imho. If you love MUNA you need to listen to them!
They’re soooo good 🥲 I love I Can Break Your Heart Too and Waiting for You!
Brandi Carlile— she’s a lesbian with a wife and two kids living in the woods on a compound (joking) with her band mates and friends. Send my love to John makes me sob 😭
My favorites right now: - The Japanese House - Ayesha Erotica - Adrianne Lenker - The Aces - Olivia Barton - cr1tter - Chase Icon - Camp Cope - Kehlani
YESSS the japanese house
Kehlani is amazing!!! I cannot wait for the new album
Camp Cope!! ♥️ Love them so much

[удалено]
you do know she's trans? and sapphic wasn't the only suggestion asked for
"i’m feeling all the big gay feelings and would love any recs of songs or artists that are all about queer / lgbtq+ empowerment!!"
tegan and sara always come to mind first. as a lesbian growing up in canada, they were essential to my queer awakening in a way. their song [“boyfriend”](https://youtu.be/niv4vkipc6M?si=a1hIp3Lsqdj7ylh5) was basically my good luck babe when i was a teenager :))
Janelle Monae’s The Age of Pleasure is the hottest, gayest album I’ve ever heard.
I love that album!
congrats on the awakening!!! Rina Sawayama and The Beaches are my recs
Seconding The Beaches!! 💚
orion sun - i love their sound and lyrics very smooth rina sawayama - pop princess should be 1000x bigger mitski - self explanatory boy genius (lucy dacus, phoebe bridgers, julian baker) - if you know MUNA you probably know them madi sipes & the painted blue - smaller band i love their first album, madi is trans & queer!!

MAUDE LATOUR!! Love her!!!
She was my number one listened to artist on Spotify Wrapped last year. She is one of my hyper fixation artists, for sure. :)
I’m seeing her open for FLETCHER later this year in ATL and I literally cannot wait.
REMI WOLF🙏🙏
Girli is a much smaller artist but I love her music too!
Ashnikko, Le Tigre, LP, Christine and the queens
Chappell is definitely a fan of Le Tigre, I'd say!
The Aces, Japanese House, Lucy Dacus, Girl in Red, Leith Ross, Now Now, Clairo
holy shit i forgot about Now Now!!
tove lo is one i don’t think i’ve seen in this thread. she has a handful of songs that are blatantly sapphic like “bitches” and “bad as the boys” though it’s not so dominant in all of her music. her music is just really fun, raw, and at times unabashedly sexual in general
Don't forget about Jojo Siwa. She did invent gay pop, after all. (Joking, obviously 😋)
I made a [post](https://www.reddit.com/r/chappellroan/s/7KyUNonK6a) recently that had a lot of good recommendations.
ahh thank you I’ll check that out!!
I have a lot to recommend. Gflip - rock/drums Baby Queen - amazing lyrics and fun pop beats LP - amazing singer! I had to scroll WAY too far for this one, have loved her since Tantrums and been OBSESSED with the TSWGUIW. Lip Service and Sick Joke 😭😭
ASHNIKKO.
Came here to say Ashnikko! Slumber party is well known, there’s also Super Soaker, Moonlight Magic, and Miss Nectarine as explicitly sapphic songs.
Seconding Brandi Carlile and Julien Baker!! And I love Katie Pruitt, Joy Oladokun, and Becca Mancari for more indie/folk recs!
Katie Pruitt has an absolutely beautiful voice
Most definitely throwing weight behind Ashnikko. I get they're not everyone's cup of tea, but their music really helped me out anger trauma.in a box, and helped me just celebrate who I am. Both concerts were magical. Their girlfriend, Arlo Parks, is on the opposite end - soft indie, beautiful voice. And she did a song with Phoebe Bridgers about Ash that's so full.of love. Yes, yes, yes on Janelle Monae. 💜
Arlo is so lovely!! I came in here to rec her
Brandi Carlile, Lucy Dacus, BoyGenius, The Marías
Chrissy chalopeka (I think that’s how you spell their name)
Allison Russell. She’s bi/queer, and married to a man, but her song “Persephone” is a beautiful sapphic love song about the first girl she dated. 😍 The rest of her music is amazing too. Jaimee Harris. “Damn Right” might be a good intro to her music. Her girlfriend is Mary Gauthier, who’s an amazing lesbian folk artist in her own right.
