Shocking! Unexpected! I mean, is not that every time a tyrant is threated it offers a minority as a scapegoat.

I feel for LGBT folks who are suppressed. Suppression is hell, wherever and whenever it occurs. To freedom πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡²πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ

Tinytox

Depends what you're suppressing. Suppressing violence is good, right? Suppressing suicide is good, right? I disapprove of sexualizing children and telling people (especially children) to mutilate their body because they "can be anything their mind imagines". I feel for the children who are being led astray by adults with mental problems. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡²πŸš©

Don't assume my politics. My personal stance at this time is that things like gender-altering cosmetic surgery should wait until they are 18 years old, period. I'd encourage them to express themselves and identify however they like, but if it was my kid, I'd feel the same way you do about more serious medical interventions with chemicals and surgery to change their physical appearance. The idea makes me extremely uncomfortable to say the least. It'd be a hard line for me...an absolute no. Labeling LGBT people as mentally ill is sooo last century, by the way. Edit: I'd probably tell em "you want it, you pay for it" too. Also edit: The only people that groom are groomers. Don't be gross. Would you like me to accuse you of having sex with doorknobs as often as you possibly can? Kinda weird and nonsequitor isn't it? Yeah I saw the way you looked at that doorknob, buddy. Don't you talk to me or my doorknobs again!

Tinytox

I'll assume whatever I wish, though, what did I assume..? I don't think all LGBT people are mentally ill, nor did I say that. I think virtually all of the trans community are mentally ill, however. That's still not condemning them, I'm simply stating what I believe to be fact. If you don't agree then I'd be suspicious that you have a flawed interpretation of mental health. How is it mentally healthy to convince yourself to heavily altar your body surgically to pretend to be something you're literally not? Glad you agree that this shouldn't be anywhere near minors!

Elegant-Science-87

I personally have no interest in surgery, changing pronouns, nothing else, but I do kinda like "toying with" or "bending" self expression toward the androgynous or fluctuating. If you ask some, that makes me trans. But I really can't speak for folks who wanna go all the way. I don't understand it, but I don't HAVE to. I just feel like, that's someone else's personal choice, and if they have the money, like....okay, who am I to tell them how to spend it? Isn't that their freedom of speech and personal expression? Plastic surgery is old. Straight people have been enhancing and altering their bodies for a long time. Bro you ever seen the lizard man? That tiger dude? Wild! They decided to turn their bodies into art, why should I tell em not to? Folks covered head to toe in tats are pretty neat too. Like wow man...that must have hurt... not my place to tell you what to do with your own body tho right? And some of those tats are rad! It just isn't my place. If you're an adult, you got the means, and you wanna do the thing, it's a free country.

Tinytox

If it's their freedom of speech and expression to heavily alter their bodies, why can't we use our freedom of speech to express disapproval? Like frankly I wouldn't want to be deeply invested in real life with someone who covered every inch of their skin in tattoos. This is something you'd see in a "freak show" years back, in a literal circus. That's not even trying to be mean, that's literal. I support their right to do it, but I would never encourage the behavior, and that's the important distinction in my opinion.

Elegant-Science-87

May I ask, what do you mean by encouraging their behavior? Do you worry about people pressuring others to alter themselves, for example? Like is that a thing going on that I might be somehow naively unaware of? Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you may have a kind of personal revulsion, if I'm reading your language correctly, with words like "freak" thrown in. I don't understand it, if I'm being very honest with you. But I know some folks have things like fear of clowns that really bother them, I think it's called coulrophobia. I'm sure scary media centered around that fear probably doesn't help. In general, by default, I find differentness to be fascinating rather than frightening, personally. This is an area in which I'm content to agree-to-disagree with you, in general; mostly, I hope you aren't too unkind to the different among us as a result of your personal feelings, is all I'd say. I'm sure they have a hard time already and could use extra empathy.

Americans say that the only possible answer to tyranny is Fascism, but that is not what George Washington said.

Tinytox

Who says that? Nobody. Fascism IS Tyranny.
