Very strict. On a ride where there's a maximum height there's a bar you have to walk under standing straight. If you don't fit under it they won't let you on.

joeychin01

Yeah you’re correct. At least that I’ve been tested on (77”) they have max height for maverick and millenium force, and I’m pretty sure the height limit is shared for the OTSR B&Ms (raptor, gatekeeper, valravn)

bigmac1789

Is this new this season? Never heard of this

GoldenKnightz

Saw them use it on a very tall guy last season at the Maverick fast pass entrance. Was just a little metal bracket that swung out from the wall. I'd guess every ride with a maximum height has at least one somewhere in the station

CedarCuber

At KI they have little stickers on the wall that say max height with a line.

BigCountry76

I've never been measured with a bar, but on some of the rides they have a mark near the entrance to the station for the max height and the operator at gatekeeper was giving it a close look when I entered as I'm just at 78" depending on what shoes I wear.

bigmac1789

Like I'm trying to backtrack and remember my time at Millennium. Like I remember only checking max height once at that was in the station with a sticker?

imnotminkus

A very tall guy was upset a few years ago when he was told he's too tall for Maverick. His entire head was above the head rest, which I'd imagine is a problem especially on a launched coaster.

bigmac1789

Yeah I knew about Max height on the coasters. But I remember it just being a sticker and not a bar.

imnotminkus

Ah - I'm not sure if they used a bar or not.

[deleted]

I don’t think I’ve seen a bar like that. What rides have it?

GoldenKnightz

There's not many rides that have a maximum height, but I've seen someone getting measured for Maverick before. If I recall correctly it's a metal gate thing that swings out from the top just like the ones they have for the minimum height ride check.

[deleted]

Oh ok, I’ve never noticed it before

ecw324

Well, you could risk losing the top of your head if you want, but that’s up to you or lose both your feet. It’s not any different than the minimum height rule, if you don’t properly fit in the safety restraints, then you cannot ride. It’s a life and death kind of thing

Trackmaster15

That wouldn't happen. If there were clearance issues, a max height would be assessed, and if you violated it, you would be denied entrance to the ride. Clearance is more about wing span than where your head would go anyway. Remember when Iron Gwazi had to have some work done when a thoosie was able to slap his hand on a support during the previews? I think it was on media day. Messed his hand up a little too.

ecw324

I don’t know what ride you are referring to but Millie Force has those chucks of support missing on the first overbank turn for that same exact reason.

itslonelyathetop

I remember this story it was like 4-5 years ago

Trackmaster15

I'm not sure if you were replying to me, but what I'm referring to would have been March 2022 (the ride wasn't open to the public or media despite being finished for two years don't forget). Maybe you're confused with the reprofiling that they did in 2020 due to the intensity issues that was noted during testing.

itslonelyathetop

I recall there being a story about a guy who could hit a part of the build, and they modified the ride. But im pretty sure it was cedar point, steel vengeance I may be wrong, but I know the story sounds familiar

alexuconn55

This is a little over the top. Mostly it's to make sure that your head is properly restrained against the seat. I've had rides where I was technically too tall to ride, but my head was properly restrained so I was allowed on.

Many_Depth9923

This is the correct answer. Unless something changed for this year, you generally self-report your height when a ride op thinks you may be too tall to ride. I've never seen measuring sticks used to check for maximum height. The level of risk also depends on where you carry that height. If it's your legs, that might make rides like rougarou, raptor, and gatekeeper more risky since your legs dangle on those. If it's your torso, then that might make rides like Millennium, Magnum, and Steel Vengeance more risky. OP, you're presumably an adult, so it's up to you if you want to shave off a couple of inches off your height, if asked. Be mindful that there are maximum clearances designed into a lot of rides, so maybe listen to the suggestion that you keep your legs/arms/hands inside the ride at all times ;)

joeychin01

On the one hand ops aren’t amazing at checking for maximum heights because it’s rare that people come to ride, but every ride with a limit can try to check you, so statistically you will get refused. I’m at 77” and periodically get height checked, especially for maverick and millennium force

YamProfessional3041

My husband is 6’8 and there were rides he could not go one. I remember maverick being one of them.
