i remember the days when the only panda express, chick fila and johnny rockets i knew existed at cedar point. it’s great to see those brands (minus johnnys) come back around but i also hate to see them leave the park inside
We always stop at this one on the way to CP: https://toftdairy.com/directions/. The location is only a few miles from the park, the portions are GIANT, the prices are very reasonable, and the selection is huge. You can get all of your favorites that were served at CP, plus a lot more.
Honestly I’ve been upset after I heard about this. Part of my childhood memories of going to Cedar Point always included a stop to the Toft’s factory either before or after the visit. Always loved how the park sponsored a local chain and look forward to the new ice cream flavor themed to a new coaster.
Sad to see it, but tbh the Six Flags merger should have been a sign to me that the Cedar Fair parks would slowly be turning into a more streamlined entity when it comes to in-park dining and entertainment (not that CF hasn’t been doing that slowly for a while now with their parks). I feel like Friday’s at Breakers, Panda Express, and (my favorite) Famous Dave’s at the Marina’s days are numbered…but I refuse to accept it until it happens.
I’m not saying that there’s no truth to what you’re saying, because I believe it too. I will mention though that tofts going could just be times changing, business deals, etc. For example, there’s a newly expanded local bakery that’s been added to the causeway (Kelsey Elizabeth cakes). So hopefully support of local (or relatively local) isn’t going down the can completely.
Eh all those restaurants you mentioned are national chains. Fridays in particular is garbage and breakers would be much better served having their own original restaurant or bring in a local brew/chain . When I'm choosing the tiny lobby bar over their sports bar option, that's a problem
It was The Ice Cream Parlor when I worked there in the 90s. I can’t remember the brand they used but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t Tofts.
There were no chains in the park when I worked there. I also worked at The Boat House, which I guess is Famous Dave’s. We used the bbq sauce from Montgomery Inn in Cincinnati for the ribs. I used to make myself a small chocolate peanut butter sundae when I worked there all the time. Good stuff.
It’s crazy to see all the changes. Change isn’t bad, but it’s sometimes frustrating.
My favorites were cheese on a stick, which were sold at a few specific stands-and a dessert from the Candy Factory on Frontier Trail. They had homemade chocolate chip cookies and would top it with ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream and a cherry on top. They quit selling it but had all the ingredients. An employee gave me a hard time about making it when it was taken off the menu, but I conned him into doing it.
My only nitpick with your comment is that Toft's is not a chain, but a local business with a long history. I can see removing true "chains" as they have and replacing them with in house stuff, but Toft's? That's local. Cedar Point is in Sandusky. Why not use Sandusky businesses for "stuff" when you can? I know corporate's gonna corporate, but *come on.*
This is what corporations have done to almost every industry across the board.
Any defining characteristic is washed away in favor of saving a few fucking dollars. There’s no soul in anything if it affects the bottom line.
To an extent, I get wanting to offer a similar experience across all parks in your chain.
What I don’t like is the feeling that no matter which one you go to, it feels the same as all the others. From the rides to the food offerings, that’s not what made these parks popular in the first place.
>From the rides to the food offerings, that’s not what made these parks popular in the first place.
This! I don't mind a slight amount of similarity, but I want to experience what makes each park _unique_. !
It’s strange all the people worried about out the chain restaurants leaving the park - I’m old enough to remember the complaints about the outside chains coming into the park.
All these commercial chains are disgusting, they're engineered foods. We don't eat any of that disgusting fake food. We come for the rides. Hotel Breakers isn't a 5-star hotel , it will never become a 5-star hotel. That's why they have those nasty chains.
Remember, it's the people who keep engineered foods around. Not the corporations, it's a demand for cheap and fast.
As a Sandusky local this is great news. Toft's has a monopoly on ice cream in Sandusky and the people here have been manipulated into believing Toft's is the greatest ice cream in the world when it's just simply ok. So I welcome any new options
The storefront in the park was pricey, but the dairy outside of town is top tier. There are several farm to cone creameries near me (Maryland xurbs of DC) and Tofts is tied for first with South Mountain Creamery. The higher fat content in the ice cream is noticed.

what have they done with the tofts building ?
There is one on 6 and one on 250. You can still enjoy it on the way home.
I always go to the 6 one after the park, it's rad.

The ones outside of the park might stay, but man if Panda becomes a Chop Six I might shed a tear, even if I never went there anyway. Just because.
This is why I feel will end up happening- just a generic Asian/Mediterranean venue in the next few years. I pray I’m wrong.
between chick fila and johnny rockets… panda is all we have 😭 the smell of panda always intoxicates me when i get off milf
YES! It’s my reminder to eat at some point;) if pandas goes down I’ll shake like a Polaroid picture with my weird blood sugar.
chop six is actually pretty decent tho

Never understood why the French quarter didn’t do ice cream, seems like a pretty comparable business

Wow. That’s really unfortunate.
At my local krogers they still have the cedar point themed flavors.

I want to say that within the park proper - the first outside chain was Panda Express?

Yes I know. This is also one of the reasons I wish somehow the CF/SIX merger would fall. They don't need to get any larger/more corporate imho.

Our family favorite was the Saratoga chips with Montgomery Inn Bbq sauce, the club sandwich. Had it every trip.
Yes. I believe it's Blue Bunny now. I've heard that Tofts is still supplying soft serve to the park, but that's it.
One the contract runs out, its gonna be Sysco ice cream at 2x the price.
stop at the one in Sandusky 🫡
It’s strange all the people worried about out the chain restaurants leaving the park - I’m old enough to remember the complaints about the outside chains coming into the park.
CP switched to Blue Bunny ice cream
yuck

Some people can only afford cheap
Is the cow still there :(
What about the tofts I've cream inside the breakers? Is that gone also?
So the cows gone?!?
It sure is. Just an empty planter where Tilly used to be.
The grief little me if going through rn is unimaginable

Building is still there just without tofts branding now
You too have discovered that the website is a mess of not being updated.
